SLAM

A couple keys flew from the keyboard, clattering noisily to the ground. I look to where my fist had struck, right in the center of the keyboard of my abused laptop.

I couldn't much care, I'd been looking for an excuse to upgrade for a while now anyways. A smaller device for writing seemed much more appealing anyways.

...Oh god the writing. I mentally groan to myself. I was stuck, yet again struggling to put another amazing story in my head onto paper. This had been going on for months now, and seemed to persist, a cold nagging in the back of my head that just keeps me from getting anything done. Why does this always happen to me? Work brain! Work!

Thus was my early morning schedule. When i’m not editing or reading, I attempt to write a story. It always just ends in frustration.

Looks like we’re sticking with just editing a bit longer… ‘Least i’m good at that. I thought to myself before settling to simply take a break. Coffee, then right back to writing. It was a simple statement to myself, meant to get my weary mind back on track as I rise from my chair.

My inner dialogue was cut short however, as there was a white FLASH, and I was flung onto my ass.

Unfortunately for me, fate is a cruel mistress, and I hit my head on my work table. Hard.

“Fuck!” I yell out in pain, my eyesight blackening as I reel from the blow. I clutch my head tightly, swearing more profanities into the void of painful misty vision.

My vision began to clear up just as fast as it had fogged and I was left with a lot of information to process, What the hell was that? An Explosion? I swear to whatever omnipotent being that rules this world. I hope that my death is a large inconvenience to you.

I scramble to my feet, the explosion of light had come from the kitchen so my first instinct, as a proud American, was to brandish my firearm! I fumble for a key on my desk before inserting it into a lock on one of the side drawers, pulling open the unlocked drawer to reveal… My old Taurus PT22. Okay… So it’s not the most badass gun in the world, sure, but when have I ever actually had to use this in self defense? I question myself, decidedly pulling the pistol out of its drawer.
“Alright Taurus, this is probably the first and last time I will ever use you, So please don’t let me down…” I mutter under my breath, sliding a magazine into place. Upon hearing that satisfying click, I turned off the safety and swiveled in the last known direction of the disturbance.

This was no bomb, my surroundings seemed to be perfectly intact in fact. No fire, no smoke or dust, and no noise. It was dead silent.

My heartbeat rises in my chest as the situation grows ever more confusing. Fight or Flight Will. Come on self defense classes, don’t fail me now!

Moving towards the source of the noise, my kitchen was still pitch black as the sun had yet to rise. It was unnervingly dark, like an inky black void threatening to slowly swallow the rest of my house. With my firearm trained into the darkness, I feel one of the veins in my neck rhythmically pulsing as I call out.

“If someone's in there! I have a gun and I will shoot! Come into the light slowly!” I shout, my voice tense and audibly hoarse as I stay locked in position.

It was quiet. There was no response.

“I apologise if I startled you, a spell of mine must have backfired, i’m not a burglar!” A feminine voice replied back groggily…

Spell? What the f-

~Twilight 5:27 AM~

It was still mostly dark out, the landscape only just barely visible as dawn threatens to break the overcasted darkness. Despite this however, it was time to prep for the harvest at Sweet Apple Acres, and on a path of dirt and loose pebbles, two mares squabbled between one another.

“Ah’m tellin ya Twi, this is a horrible idea. Ya’ll should just give it up, or at the very least wait ‘till day breaks.” Came the country accent of one orange mare.

“Oh please Applejack, I know what I'm doing! Everything is totally fine.” I state confidently, but I was mostly just giddy to see how this new spell turns out.

“Yeah? Last time I checked sugarcube, you got a pretty big track record of messin up them spells of yers at the worst possible moments. I’m just fine and dandy, and I can bring in the harvest without no fancy magic.” Applejack declares begrudgingly, but despite her protests. It was apparent she was in no condition to be working the fields.

“Oh hush, I know you’re used to doing things the apple way, but just swallow your worry this one time and let me help out! It’s not like it is every day that the entirety of Sweet Apple Acres is down with the flu, these are special circumstances.” I say matter of factly.

Applejack sighs, rolling her eyes and chuckling under her breath. “Oh fine, Go ahead and git on with it then, before I up’n change my mind.”

I squee’d giddily, excited to test my latest work. I’m confident in this spell. I went over the calculations and possible variables at least thirty times last night while creating it. It was a rather advanced spell, but nothing I wasn’t confident in doing. Being an Alicorn also probably helps a bit. Most of the spells complexity comes from the series of rapid and precise teleportations over a specified perimeter.

In short? I am about to do Applejack’s entire harvest in approximately 1.37 seconds. Those numbers being triple calculated for accuracy of course. My horn was already hard at work, weaving the complex intricacies that bring a spell into creation. However, as the spell neared completion, I begin to feel a force tugging, as if trying to pull my magical signature off balance.

What the? I was expecting magical feedback… But nothing like this… I’ve got to kill the spell and vent this energy. No random variables are going to mess up my spell! I say to myself confidently.

However, I found myself unable to cease the spell that was already created, the fibers of its design warping and twisting beyond comprehension. “A-Applejack! Somethings wrong! Somethings warping my magic into pure unfiltered energy, it’s all jumbles! I can’t shut it off!” I say panickedly.

Applejack, now with a look of concern attempts to step forward, but as the magical feedback reaches its apex, I summoned what energy I can through the confusion that was once my spell, sending a force to knock her out of harm's way.

FLASH

All I could see is white, all I could hear is ringing. My senses dulled, the magical feedback that backfired through my body ripping them from me. What was supposed to be a calm day now was chaos.

Suddenly, a searing pain pulses through my head, radiating from my horn. A telltale sign of magical exhaustion. Oooowwww!!!

The overbearing white in my vision slowly fades away, being replaced by an unfocused and bleary darkness.

I feel like I was kicked by a Hydra… Where am I?
After a couple seconds, I got my answer. A faint click, a sound almost like that of something being locked into place causes my ears to swivel in its direction. The sound is followed by muffled mumbling and shuffling around. I-is somepony else here? I ask myself.

My question was yet again answered as a voice speaks up. “Whoever’s in there! I have a gun and I will shoot! Come into the light slowly!”

This poor pony must think i’m some kind of cat burglar! Oh jeez, I must have teleported right into someone’s house! This is so embarrassing! Think Twilight think… What do I do?

Swallowing my saliva, I croak out. “I apologise if I startled you, a spell of mine must have backfired, i’m not a burglar!”

Hopefully that will help put them at ease… Now to focus on getting onto my own hooves. I take a couple seconds to brace myself before pushing up, standing on all four and only a bit woozy, a particularly painful throb running from my horn through my head as I successfully stand.

Oh jeez, this is going to be so awkward.

Author's Note

Hey guys, this is my first ever attempt at a REAL story. Is pony meets humanity a good trope for my first ever story? Eh, time will tell. but it sure as hell beats any other attempts i've made at writing up until now. I hope you guys like this little first chapter i've made to set the ball rolling and introduce our two main characters! This story will mostly focus on Will and be from his point of view, but as you see here, there will be the occasional interval where Twi gets her two cents in. I hope you enjoy, and please like if you do. If you didn't or have feedback to give? Please tell me in the comments below!

The future and success of this story is entirely up to you lovely people!
