In My Chamber
Newcoming (January) 1st 145 VE
Canterlot Equestria
A new year has just begun on Earthius and there was a grand New Year party in the palace in Canterlot. Twilight had asked one of her council members named Pinkie Pie to plan it. She invited rulers from neighboring kingdoms, King Xerkoss from Rianella, King Thereon of Retalliss, King Black-Hand of Dorian (A powerful Dwarven city-state), and even King Rignar II of Niln (despite her hatred for him). Everyone noble in the palace attended for a night of dancing, music, and getting drunk.
All except for me, Starlight Glimmer, a personal student to Queen Twilight who told me to focus on my studies and barred me from going to the party. Guards from all Kingdoms are patrolling the halls, not just Equestria. Just ten minutes or so ago two Nilnish Marksmen marched down the halls with their massive rifles shouldered, though the hall was lined with windows letting the moonlight, one still held an oil lamp.
My quarters are located around the corner at the end of the hall with the window outside-facing over the city. At night, the lights of the city are extremely beautiful especially at night, but I dare not step from my quarters with those guards outside, for when I looked outside one of the guards looked at me with a look of hatred, one that said
"I would kill you if you stepped out here, and I would enjoy it"
I haven't heard anyone for a few minutes anyway so I'm not as concerned. My chamber is dimly lit right now, only by a lamp, an eastern type one from Retalliss that I bought while traveling there on an expedition to an ancient tomb. I'm mainly an archeologist, of course, I've never led an expedition just accompanied archeologists to sites. I've traveled to many places even as far away as Chridenfell on the continent of Tironfell.
Right now I should be studying some of the books on archeology and history I have but I'm just not interested right now. I'm angry that Twilight will let her other students go to the party, but not me, one of her best, a star prodigy? Sweet Celestia, I just heard some loud cracks coming from where the party's at.
I can't believe it, I managed to sneak past the guards to the party. I saw four soldiers lined up in front of some targets. Two were Equin Marksmen, dawning very similar bronze plate armor, except it was more exposing, with less plating that exposed the chain mail beneath it, instead of a Parazan (Corinthian) helmet, they wore Morion helmets, and they carried long barreled muzzle-loaded Arquebuses.
The Nilnish marksmen were very different, they were both fair-skinned unlike the Equin's, they wore chain mail and gambeson armor with leather boots covered by steel sabatons, steel knee caps, and steel gauntlets with leather palms. Their cloaks were green with the Nilnish symbol on the fronts, a wolf with crossed swords behind it. In their hands were quite long, wheellock rifles. They had the shouldered at the moment but a man with long black hair and a fairly short black beard, wearing a black and red suit with a bearskin cape and a sword in an elegantly decorated scabbard held his hand up.
He dropped his hand and the soldiers aimed.
"Miale" he yelled
As he did this the soldiers fired their rifles, filling the room with smoke and the smell of burnt gunpowder. As this occurred the man picked up a golden cup and said something in Nilnish causing the soldiers and Nilnish nobles to break out in laughter. I returned to my chamber half an hour ago I believe. I can hear two people talking outside my chamber, two Nilnish Nobles, talking about some land on a territory far from here, Cryton I think they called it.
I'm going to bed now, it's been a long day and the music of the party has died out so I think it's over with. Dear Sweet Celestia, I was just called into the main room of the palace by Queen Twilight expecting that I would have to either study more or just go on another expedition. But no, I went in there to see the man who had been directing the marksmen.
It turns out it was king Rignar II of Niln, now that I could see him better I saw that he had an engraved bronze ring with a large red ruby in the center placed on top of his head and also had a beautifully engrave wheellock pistol with an ivory grip on the opposite hip as his sword, he stood obviously taller than Twilight and had had quite broad shoulders.
"There you are Starlight, my faithful student, King Rignar wishes to speak with you," said Twilight smiling.
She had an elegant white and gold dress and had her long purple hair braided behind her head, many envy her but I don't.
"Yes I wish to talk to your best student, is this her?" said Rignar in an upper Nilnish accent(Scottish)
"Yes I am," I said confidently though I shouldn't have
He just sorta looked at me for a second before finally speaking:
"How would you like to lead an expedition to a ruin that is likely a Callamaran tomb?"
I was excited both because it was a Callamaran tomb which I had never explored, but also because I had never led an expedition. I hid my excitement but I quickly accepted his offer.
"Great, at first light tomorrow you must report to the road near Nilcreed, my friend and commander, Wulfgar will be waiting to take you to the city of New Vildria at the border at midday tomorrow, you best rest up" Said RIgnar before turning back to Twilight.
I just returned to my chamber, I'm so excited I don't think I can sleep so that's why I'm still writing. The sun's starting to rise and I can hear the clock tower ringing so I need to stop.
