Author's Note
Admittedly, I was contemplating having them play Outlast... and I argued with myself a lot to try and choose whether or not I wanna keep true to the Outlast game, or just make this it's own original story. So I am just making some of this stuff up with a few elements from the Outlast game. Consistency is out the window 
Admittedly this isn't as great as I thought I'd make it... but I just made it cause why not?

Horror Gaming
Ding-dong.
"Coming!"
Adagio Dazzle opened up the door and on the other side; Trixie, AKA the sweetest dork/magician in Canterlot High.
"Hey, sweetie!" Adagio gushed, picking up her girlfriend and swinging her around like a little kid. "Oh, I missed you so much."
"Heh, Adagio, I see you every day at school," Trixie blushed.
"I know. But I'm always so happy to see you," Adagio nuzzled her cheek.
Trixie couldn't deny that she loved that too. And so the Dazzling leader stepped out of the way for Trixie to pull her suitcase inside on it's little wheels. She set it by the door and Adagio invited her over to the couch, patting the cushion next to her. Blushing profusely, Trixie cuddled up next to her girlfriend under the warmth of her affection.
She gave a kiss to her head before nuzzling her cheek again.
"So, uh... where's Aria and Sonata?"
"Aria said she would stay late at Amethyst's home and set up a haunted house and also sleepover. Sonata as far as I can tell is just watching a movie up in her room," Adagio explained.
"Ah, okay," Trixie twiddled her thumbs a bit.
"Why do you ask?"
"Well, uh... I wasn't sure if you would mind or not but..." Trixie reached into her bag, pulling out a case for a game. "I brought a horror game over, thought maybe we could try it out. I heard it was really good, and I thought maybe this could be something fun? U-Unless you rather not, which is fine, I--"
Adagio put her finger over her lip with a soft smile. She leaned in and gave a kiss on her cheek before nodding. "I would very much enjoy playing a game with you."
Trixie squeaked, and her cheeks heated up a bit.
"Okay, great!"
"What platform is that on?"
"Uh, I think it runs on the gaming system you own."
"Excellent. You get the game set up, I'm going to get us some nice hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies."
"Ooh, nummie!"
As Trixie put the game into the console and grabbed a controller, Adagio started to brew some nice hot chocolate together. And just for extra fluff; some little marshmallows! On a single plate were some chocolate chip cookies that had been microwaved and heated up so they were nice and warm.
"Okay, I think the game is officially loaded and ready," Trixie smiled.
"Perfect! Be right there, give me a second," Adagio called from the kitchen. Eventually she stepped into the open living room and plopped down a small tray that one would normally use to give their loved ones breakfast in the morning. Now it was a tray holding delectable sweets for the evening. Two cups of nice hot cocoa and a plate of chocolate chip cookies.
"Oooh, nummies!" Trixie squeaked, taking a cookie. "Okay, here we go!"
Adagio giggled before snuggling up next to her girlfriend. "This should be fun. Sure you won't be scared? I mean this game looks pretty spooky," Adagio teased.
Trixie raised a brow with a small smirk. "Adagio, I've played a lot of scary games before. They don't faze me."
"Wait, really?" Adagio blinked.
"Mmmhmm. Horror movies don't really scare me that much, I honestly appreciate them more for intricate stories and cool concepts," Trixie said.
"Now you sound like Twilight," Adagio giggled.
"No I don't," Trixie blushed. "Oh, story, here! Okay, lets see... Oh here we go! 'You are playing Freelance Marker, an undercover journalist who will do what it takes to discover the truth... always willing to look where others won't... you are not a fighter. Your only options are to run, hide, or die. Only one mission; find out the secret of the mountain and leave at once."
Adagio blinked. "I prefer the run and hide option, I nearly died time and time again, and it just doesn't happen."
"Same here. Okay, so let's begin!" Trixie smiled, pulling up the controller. "Okay, so I don't know how well I'm going to do in this game, but I thought maybe if I died, then you would play, and if you died, then I play, and so on and so forth. Sound good?"
"Excellent."
"Great, let's begin!"
Almost immediately the two were off to a start. On screen, they could see the one character they would be playing traveling in the dead of night in what looked like a jeep, with a radio on some station that was very hard to make out.
"Could the radio be any more staticky, I swear I--never mind, radio is dead," Trixie commented.
"Lets see; we are traveling to an asylum dead at night, we have lost the transmission to the radio, and we are doing investigating this so called 'dark secret'. I'm positive nothing bad will happen whatsoever," Adagio said with a hint of sarcasm.
"Oh I'm sure," Trixie added, hearing her deadpan demeanor.
Trixie moved her character out of the jeep and after skimming through the documents the character took with her, Trixie began searching around the vicinity.
"So lets see, I can still see some lights on inside the building," Trixie commented. "Maybe there's some people at home?"
"Most likely having a late office party," Adagio said, sipping on her hot cocoa. A little bit left some marks on her lips, but Trixie just wiped that away with a small cloth.
"And I see some military vehicles out front... oh wait a minute, look at the radar dishes on them. Maybe these are what caused the interference? But why would they not--never mind I just answered my own question."
"The graphics look... pretty good, actually. These look nice," Adagio commented.
"This game was made a few years back, and it was made by an indie company, I think. Either way this was made by a small team which I think so far is turning out pretty decently," Trixie replied.
"So what is this place we're at again?"
"Aris Asylum," Trixie nodded.
"Aris Asylum... Believe it or not, I actually worked in an asylum once," Adagio commented.
"Really?"
"Mmmhmm. It was only for a year and a half, but it was an interesting experience.
"What did you end up doing there?" Trixie asked, finally getting her character out of the car.
"Well mostly helping doctors keep patients down when giving anesthesia treatments, or this one night when I actually was hired to do security patrol. Though I think that job was best suited for Aria, she would have taken more enjoyment in the idea of tackling anyone who tried to slip out," Adagio explained.
"Mmm, yeah, good point," Trixie nodded. "Okay, so we got to find a way inside the building. Should be simple enough."
"Let me guess, front doors...?"
"Locked."
"Shocker."
"Alright lets go around back."
Adagio took another sip of her hot chocolate as Trixie turned around the corner of the building, climbing up some scaffoldings. She had to admit, she did enjoy the very dark atmosphere. If there was anything she always enjoyed, it was a nice atmosphere; always a top priority in her eyes when it came to setting up a scene. Most of the time it would be for helping her drama classmates with making videos, or making the romantic setting for her girlfriend on date night, or just making an ambience to get her in the right mood for motivation.
"Okay, we just gotta climb up this ledge here..." Trixie moved her character up to the ledge. Upon jumping inside, she swore she saw what looked like a mess of a room along with trails of blood on the ground. Until the light fixture shattered.
"And the lights are out."
"Well you can't have a horror scenario without destroyed lights," Trixie shrugged.
Trixie's character flipped on the night vision. And so they kept moving forward...
Adagio's emotional state went from mildly calm to disturbed within seconds. Her eyes were bulging out of her head. "That's a lot of blood... That is.. a lot. Am I seeing heads?"
"Yes, yes you are," Trixie said, her face wide with disturbance.
"Welll... can't say that's the most disturbing thing I've seen but... yeah," Adagio cringed.
Trixie then flashed the camera down towards the ground at a person who was already mutilated... and missing a head.
"Sooooo... where's his head?"
"I think his head is long gone at this point," Adagio quivered. "... Can you please turn the camera away from him?"
"Oh, sorry! My bad," Trixie tittered. "Alright, so we just have to find a way to unlock the doors in the lower levels of the asylum and the main doors. I don't want to be running back and forth just trying to get back to the security booth."
Trixie's character ran by some more deceased bodies laying about, some which made Adagio's spine tingle even more.
"Okay, lets check out the security cams. So I guess... oh no," Trixie groaned.
On one of the cameras, they could see the priest character they ran into before gazing up at the lenses.
"Don't. Don't do it. Don't--and he did it."
Adagio hid her face behind the blanket, terrified of the power having shut down in the game.
"'New objective, turn the power back on'. Okay, shouldn't be a problem, should it?"
"In an asylum full of mental psychotics and monsters?" Adagio quivered.
"We only met one monster and that was that... whatever he was. I'm sure we won't--" Trixie stopped. A very loud thumping sound came from within the game. "Oh shoot, gotta hide!"
Trixie quickly moved her character into the locker and slammed it shut before the big hulking nutjob came bashing at the door. Trixie could have sworn this guy's strength was on par with Saddle Rager. And he was beastly as all get-out: dagger-like teeth, nasty eyes, extra limbs hanging all over, just plain looking inhuman.
Adagio squeaked and she yanked the blanket over her face. This being, that monster, it was just too much. All she wanted to do now was hide away from the horrifying entity that smashed into the office.
"Come on, come on, come on..." Trixie begged. "Go away please, just go away and never look at my locker..."
Adagio's body was still shaking in fear, praying that the monster on screen would go away.
"Okay... just need to wait... okay, great! He's gone!" Trixie said, moving her character into the hallway. But when she turned the cameras around to look, he was no where to be seen. "Quite literally, where did he go? How'd he leave so fast?"
Adagio still hid under the blanket. Trixie looked to her left and frowned a bit. "Dagi? Dagi it's okay, he's gone."
Adagio slowly pulled the cover down to peak. "A-Are you sure?"
"Positive. All we have to do now is restore power to the security control."
"O-Oh, w-well okay...", slowly she put the blanket back down and leaned closer to Trixie, trying not to let her go.
Trixie could tell she was scared from how much she was shaking. But she smiled softly and embraced her back. "Hey, it's okay." She kissed her cheek and nuzzled. "It's okay. It's just a game."
"R-Right. Just a game... just a game," Adagio repeated. Truthfully told, she knew it was a game, but everything was too horrifying for her.
"Okay... just need to wait... okay, great! He's gone!" Her character stepped into the vacant hallway. "Okay quite literally, where'd he go? How'd he leave so fast?"
"I don't care, I'll be happy if he just vanishes and never shows up again!"
Trixie hit the pause button and set the controller down. "Adagio? Babe, are you okay?"
Adagio slowly nodded.
"This game is scaring you, isn't it?"
"N-No, it's not.. Jumpscares, sure, b-but I'm not scared."
Trixie put her hand on Adagio's palm, intertwining her fingers with hers. "Dagi, it's okay. You can tell me."
"Okay, I'll admit, I'm scared," Adagio admitted, feeling defeated. "This game looks gorgeous, but it's so gory and scary, and I don't know when the next thing will come out and scare me! ... I'm sorry if you think less of me," she said, whimpering a bit.
"Hey now, listen to me," Trixie lifted her chin. "I am not going to think less of you, okay? Everyone's scared of something, it's perfectly normal."
"I know, I... I guess sometimes I think I need to be perfect every second of life."
"Adagio," Trixie interrupted, looking at her with a serious face. "Perfection doesn't exist. Anyone who says exists is either a liar, a nutcase, or... some other third thing I cannot bring to my head. Being scared is a natural thing, it's fine. I get it."
She pulled her girlfriend close and held her in a sweet tender kiss. Adagio slowly embraced her back, enjoying the reality of kissing her whenever she pleased.
"But if you're scared, we can stop playing if you want," Trixie offered.
Adagio looked back at the screen. Sure it was just a game, one that scared her no doubt. But she completely forgot that it was just a game; none of it was real. And she wasn't alone; her girlfriend was right here with her.
"... maybe five more minutes." Adagio asked, raising her hand up.
"Okay then," Trixie nodded, pressing the start screen again.
But Adagio thought again, and a thought came to her head. "Trixie?"
"Yes?"
"Would you... hmm... would you mind if maybe I could play?"
Trixie looked back and smiled. "I wouldn't mind at all."
She gave the controllers to her girlfriend, and this time, Trixie was the one cuddling up next to her, laying her head on her shoulder and nuzzling her cheek. Adagio giggled every time Trixie tried to cuddle up to her like a kitten.
"Sooo... how do these controls work? I don't know."
"It's okay, I'll teach you," Trixie smiled. "Okay so the joystick there lets you look around..."
They didn't go for just five minutes. They went on even longer, trying to complete the game. And this time, Adagio was the one with the controls.
"Come on, you got it, almost there..." Trixie cheered her on.
"Just one more... and... we got it!"
Adagio and Trixie cheered, finally making their victory a success.
"We made it!" Adagio gushed, pulling her girlfriend in for another happy hug. "And... that was fun!"
"You liked it?"
"I loved it! I mean, I was scared at first but after making more progress on the game... it was just fun!" She nuzzled her girlfriend again, pulling her in for another hug.
"Well I'm glad you enjoyed it," Trixie cooed, hugging her some more. "In fact... there's actually exclusive content that comes with the game, we get to play a new story."
"Oooh... color me intrigued."
"Wanna play?" Trixie smirked.
Adagio smirked back, flashing her pearly whites.
"Let's play."
