Author's Note
So this is basically a inspiration that came from a guy by the name JordanWolfBoy who started writing his own Equestria Girls stories. Since he was doing the (Hu) Mane 7, I thought I should do the Shadow Five.
Chapter 1: Heartache
Canterlot City was known as a happy place for all. Some even considered it paradise or heaven and some say Canterlot High school had some very...magical experiences over the course of this year and you would believe it...if you actually went to that school.
You go to Crystal Prep Academy which was once a school led by a corrupt principal named Abacus Cinch who only had the motive to win and would do whatever it takes to be known as the best. The students there followed through with it, thinking that it was for their education until they realized how malevolent and contradicting she was.
Since then, everything’s been much better at Crystal Prep. The students started becoming more friendly than they were. However, they still had some debris of their former principal’s propaganda still inside them but the spark wasn’t as effective as it was once before. Now every day when you walk through the halls you hear the words of “Hey Anon!”, “Morning Anon!”, “Yo Anon, you doin’ anything later?”. It was like you entered a parallel universe. Sometimes it made you a little skeptical if they’d go back to their old ways. Your friends did during that Dance to Prance competition with the Rainbooms which led to the most fantastic spring dance Crystal Prep had ever had. Of course, you were kind of sad as you didn't really have someone to dance with but hanging out with your friends and meeting the Rainbooms kind of made up for that. In fact, now that you think about it, if it weren't for the Rainbooms, you probably never would have even considered magic to be a real thing and it was kind of nice to see Twilight again.
You sat down in your seat for your Algebra AP class and waited for the teacher to come in. You decided to pull out your phone and doing something with it to entertain yourself. Eventually, you felt a little nudge on your shoulder and you turn your head around and smiled at the sight of who was there. It was a girl who had light pistachio hair with pale light grey-green and light brilliant lime streaks, light brilliant amber irises, pale light grayish amaranth, and grayish arctic blue eyeshadow.
“Hey, dude!” A scratchy, cheery voice emits from her.
This was Lemon Zest, a girl who you always found to be most interesting. You see, even before Abacus got fired, Lemon Zest had this upbeat and very friendly personality towards pretty much everyone. She considered you a friend from the beginning and thought you were really cool. The only quirk you could list for her is that she blasts her music too loud. Usually, when she tries to put her headphones on someone else, you warn her to turn down the volume but most of the time you turn it down just to prevent her from going deaf. Occasionally, she’d get a little short with you but deep down, she knew it was only because you cared for her.
“Hey Zesty.” You smile at her. Zesty was one of the many nicknames you came up with for her, obviously. There’s Lem, Lemmy, and a whole lot of other names. She thought all of them were cute and since then, you can’t remember the last time you called her by her real name. “What’s up?”
“Not much. Me and Shadow got some tickets to a PostCrush concert and we're gonna go for our seven month anniversary!” Now that almost made your smile fade but you tried hard to fake it in front of her. You had a crush on Lemon Zest. A huge crush on her. Her personality is a rare thing you’d find in a girl at this school and she’s got the most attractive body you have ever seen. Though as happy as you were that she had a boyfriend, you couldn’t help but envy him for how lucky he is to have her.
Her boyfriend was Shadow Moonlight. An emo-punk looking teenager with dark purple and black hair, dark red eyes, a gray light jacket and some bracelets with spikes sticking out of them. He also had one around his neck and a white T-shirt with a burning crown symbol on it and a few piercings on his ears and a light blue pair of jeans and some black and red shoes. It made sense how Lemon and he would become an item considering how they both look like they’re into punk styles. The guy was also a rouge. He only wore the school uniform during school. The moment the last bell rang, he was already in his casual clothes. You had a thought he could be a magician, but his appearance said otherwise.
“Wow...that’s great. I’m really happy for you Lem.” You nearly choke on your words but you were actually happy for her because knowing how happy she was to be by his side was enough to make you realize that he was perfect for her.
“Thanks, Anon, I’m just surprised how he managed to get those tickets. I thought PostCrush was sold out. He really does care about me.” She starts playing with her hair, dozing off into her own world envisioning the PostCrush concert next to her significant other.
You sigh as the teacher walks into the classroom which didn't help your mood very much.
"Alright class, take out the homework I had assigned yesterday." You go to grab your folder for math and open it but realize that you only had one problem left to do. You frantic for a bit as this problem was one of the more complex math equations you've come across and you were unable to solve it last night so you skipped over it and would come back to it after your other homework was done. Just then Lemon Zest gives you another tap on the shoulder.
"Here dude." She hands you her homework sheet with the answer solved. You smile at her and quickly copy off her work and hand her worksheet back to her.
"Thanks, Lemmy. You're a lifesaver. How'd you manage to solve that problem anyway?"
"Shadow's a good tutor. He can really help you."
"Right I forgot." You fakely chuckle. You envy that guy for being with Lemon Zest but at the same time, you respect him since he treats Lemon Zest like a princess and he respects you so you don't really want to pick a fight with him.
“I don’t know what to do girls. I mean I am happy for Lemon but at the same time I’m sad that she’s with someone else.”
“Figured that out all on your own?” Sour Sweet rolls her eyes but then checks herself. “Sorry, Anon. That just annoys me when someone says something like that.”
“It’s fine Sour. I’d probably feel the same.”
“There’s not much you can do Anon.” She glances at you sadly.
“You could break them up.” Sugarcoat bluntly suggests.
“Sugarcoat!” Sour glares at her.
“I definitely don’t want to do that. They seem really happy together.
“You should find another girl.” Indigo Zap joins in as she sat down at the lunch table with a tray full of food in her hands.
“And how can I do that?” You slap yourself on the forehead. “That sounded really dumb now that I said it out loud.”
“Yeah, it kind of was.” Sour then realizes something. “Hey, where is Lemon anyway?”
“Yeah, she should have been here by now.” Indigo takes a bite out of her apple. “That’s not like her.”
“I better go find her.” You get up from your chair and ran out of the lunchroom to find Lemon Zest.
You searched through empty classrooms on both floors but there was no sign of her. You sighed as you walked back toward the cafeteria but then you heard the sound of a scratchy voice from behind a door you’d recognize anywhere.
“Wait, what?!” You heard her yell as you then heard a second voice that sounded masculine and dark which you could recognize from a mile away.
“Look, I don’t like it either baby but I don’t want to have to make Skype calls all the time to see you. It just won’t be good for either of us.” Shadow Moonlight sighs. “I really don’t want to do this but I think we need to break up. I don’t want you to have to get onto your computer and constantly call me all the time.”
“But I can make time Shady! I promise!”
“Don’t bother Lem. You might fall back on your studies or worse, get expelled or even stay away from your friends. I may be your boyfriend but I don’t own you.”
“B-But...we were going to see PostCrush together...right?”
“I know but I’ll be too far away to see it with you. Which is why I’m giving you the tickets to the show.” Shadow takes two tickets out of his pocket and hands them to her. “I wish I could stay with you Lem but I can’t leave my family. Go, spend your time with someone who will always be there for you. I don’t want you to feel sad about this.”
“How could I not?! You’re breaking up with me! That’s one of the saddest things to happen to anyone!” Lemon screams at the top of her lungs.
“Eh. I could think of worse things." He shrugs and Lemon Zest punches him. "Ow! Look, I’m sorry Lemon. I really am. I want to stay with you I really do but I can’t because of my idiot brother. I love you, I really do and I want you to be happy.”
“But I’m happy with you Shadow! You make me happy!”
“I can’t stay with you Lemon. We won’t be able to kiss anymore and snuggle with each other as we used to if I have to be far away from you and what’s the point of a relationship when you’re just behind a screen the whole time? Find somebody special to you Lemon. Someone who can make you happier than I ever could.”
Lemon Zest bursts into tears and ran out of the classroom slamming the door open which caused you to fall backward. She ran down the hallway with her hands on her face and you could hear her faint sobs.
Shadow sighs again and leaves the classroom and when he closes the door, he sees you standing there and sighs. “So I guess you heard too didn’t you?” You nod. “Well, make sure she’s happy. I don’t want her to be upset about me leaving Canterlot. Could you do me a solid and take care of her for me, will you?”
“I promise you that I will.”
“Thank you, Anon.” He said before walking in the other direction. You decided, not out of love but as a good friend to run after Lemon Zest. You ask around the school for if anyone saw her and everyone responded with her running out the front entrance. You burst out of the front doors and approached the gate. You opened one of the doors and ran off to the one place you’d presume she’d go to, her house.
You knew by now that lunch was definitely over and you were definitely going to get detention but you didn’t care. There were more important things right now. Your crush and really good friend was in need of some TLC and it was up to you to give that to her. You weren’t going to allow her to be sad. She wouldn’t be the sexy rocker you know and fell in love with if that were the case and you weren’t about to let that change. That was a promise you made to yourself, her now ex-boyfriend and Lemon Zest herself.
