You've probably heard of the events that happened on Hearth’s Warming Eve. About how the three races of ponies that bypassed their differences by utilizing the essential system of intertwined responsibilities that allows the world of Equestria to flow in harmony? The actions depicted in the form of a play shown every year to teach foals and fillies the history of Equestria, as well as entertain their parents? What if I told you that story was wrong?
The play shows the leaders of the races settle their differences. They had to literally choose between choose between making friends or dying. It pretends that the citizens would listen to their masters and meet the new acquaintances with open arms. And they (for the most part) did however, a small group of earth ponies refused to believe that they could live with such savages as Pegasi or deal with the supremacy that Unicorns give themselves just because they can levitate a book.
They couldn't listen to their leader’s order to move to Equestria. Puddinghead was too incompetent to even to read a map. She made decrees without the slightest bit of knowledge of what would come of them. She couldn't get out of bed in the morning if it wasn't for her secretary, Smart Cookie. There was no way they could comply with that oaf’s order to live with them! Not again. After the feud that started this mess, they couldn't see the other ponies for anything but the mules they are. Life would be a living hell! So, they settled in the one place where the aid of the aid of the other races wasn't needed, the only place Discord left unaffected when he forever corrupted the physics of the rest of the pony world during his reign of chaos the only place they could live in solitude, The Everfree Forest.
They had heard rumors of it their whole lives. Scary stories of how nature tended to itself, as well as the amount of creatures that lurked inside of it, just waiting to snatch up any unlucky filly or colt that was stupid enough to venture into it. Stories told of Manticores, witchdoctors, sea monsters, various "creepy crawlies", and more disgusting creatures that eat ponies with ease. They would have to deal with these dangers and more on a daily basis, but nothing could equal to the agony of having to live with Pegasi again. Besides, they can handle the creatures. They were earth ponies after all. If they couldn’t fight it, they could easily out think any Cocatrice that threatened them.
So that’s what they did. Living in various huts carved into the trunks of trees or in lazily built shacks with a thatched roof. They've been living in the forest for ten years. We've been living in the forest for ten years. I've been with these ponies since we made our journey into the forest over a decade ago. I was a filly when my parents forced me to move. I didn't want to leave my friends at school. My mind was full of protest and worries that quickly turned into panics. "We didn't even tell anyone we were leaving. I wouldn't be able to talk to them again. They wouldn't even know where I was. What if they thought I was dead! I can't put them through that! Mom, dad, please let me tell my friends I'm leaving! please!" But, that was a long time ago. I'm an adult mare now. And, while I'm still not be as big as most of the ponies around me, I won't be growing anymore. I have my own house made out of wood and a thatched roof. My name is Shade and, I am a Unicorn.
