Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo laid around in their clubhouse, bored as ever. No one had needed their help for the past two weeks and things were starting to get rather boring.
“Are you sure we checked every place we could help?” Scootaloo asked. Applebloom looked at the long list she had set up.
“Eeyup.” She answered, throwing the list across the room. They had checked almost everywhere in Ponyville to see if anyone needed help with something. When they did find someone who needed help, it was mainly simple task like sweeping the floors or taking out the trash. Everyone’s ears perked up when there was a knock on the door.
“Come in!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed, expecting it to be Applejack telling them to come inside for lunch. The door swung open revealing Spike.
“Hey Spike, what’s up?” Applebloom asked. He fiddled with his hands nervously.
“Well there’s this girl I like and I kinda sorta... need help asking her out,” Spike said, his cheeks turning pink. The CMC rushed towards him with grins on their faces.
“So what you’re saying is that you need help?!” Sweetie Belle asked happily. Spike nodded his head. The girls cheered, dancing around the clubhouse. They all quickly zipped back to Spike, bouncing with excitement.
“So who's the girl?” Scootaloo asked excitedly. Sweetie Belle grinned, wanting to know too.
“Well...” Spike said nervously, scratching his neck. “It’s Gabby,” Spike stated, his face turning darker.
“You two would be so cute together!” Sweetie Belle gushed. Spike chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
“So do you guys have any advice?” Spike asked. They all thought, humming to themselves.
“How about you just be yourself?” Applebloom suggested. Spike quickly shook his head.
“I want her to like me, not be hate me!” Spike exclaimed. Scootaloo rubbed her chin, thinking to herself.
“I have an idea!” Scootaloo exclaimed, flapping her wings.
“Me too!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed, raising her hoof into the air.
“What is it?” Spike asked. Scootaloo chuckled to herself.
“You’ll see.” Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo said in unison, smirking to themselves.
Spike sat on the bench in the town park, nervously twisting his tail. In his hand, he read a list of things to say. He wore large yellow and red sunglasses with blacked-out lenses. He wore shiny red sweatpants with yellow stripes and a shiny jacket to match. He wore bulky sneakers and a backwards hat to match his whole outfit. To top it all off, he wore black fingerless gloves.
“Are you sure this is gonna work? I look pretty stupid.” Spike stated. Applebloom popped her head out from a bush next to the bench.
“You should just be yourself, it’ll be a lot easier.” Applebloom stared. Scootaloo peaked her head out of the bush, waving her hoof at Applebloom.
“Of course it’ll work, how do you think I won over these two to date me?” Scootaloo said while pointing to Applebloom and Sweetie Belle.
“You avoided us for a week and started crying when we confronted you,” Applebloom informed, making Sweetie Belle chuckle. Scootaloo scrunched up her face and crossed her arms.
“Well, I was hurt that you two went out on dates without me.” Scootaloo defended. Sweetie Belles ears perked up and she quickly turned around.
“Gabby’s coming!” Sweetie Belle whispered, pushing Scootaloo and Applebloom into the bush. Gabby walked up to Spike, waving happily.
“Hi, Spike, nice outfit.” Gabby complimented. A blush appeared on Spike's face and he hopped off of the bench. He put the paper in his pocket and gave awkward finger guns with a flashy grin.
“What’s up, baby?” Spike greeted with a wink. He then realized that she couldn't see the wink through the sunglasses. He let out a nervous chuckle, his scales falling flat against his head.
”Whats up baby?” Applebloom asked, looking at Scootaloo.
“I thought it would make him sound cooler.” Scootaloo said with a shrug. Gabby giggled making Spikes face turn pink.
“So are you gonna start calling me baby now?” Gabby asked with a wink. Spike let out a wheeze.
“I’m uh, no...yes?” Spike stammered out, making Gabby laugh. He suddenly remembered the paper Sweetie Belle gave him. He pulled it out of his pocket at quickly skimmed through the words.
“Pretty eyes, wonderful smile, it would be nice, to stay with you for a while.” Spike read out. Gabby tilted her head.
“I thought you hated poetry.” Gabby stated. He did. He absolutely despised writing and reading poetry. He didn’t mind listening to someone else’s poetry though.
“Well I like it now.” Spike said with a forced grin. Gabby raised an eyebrow.
“Why didn’t you check if he liked poetry?” Scootaloo asked. Sweetie Belle shrugged.
”He likes writing, I assumed he like poetry.” Sweetie Belle defended.
“Spike hates poetry, everyone knows that!” Scootaloo exclaimed. Applebloom covered both of their mouths, shushing them.
“Be quiet, I think somethings happening.” Applebloom hushed.
“Are you okay? You’re acting weird.” Gabby asked with a cocked eyebrow and a tilted head. Spike gave a forced grin.
“Everything is crack-a-lackin!” Spike answered, internally cringing at that. Gabby gave an uncomfortable look.
“Do...you wanna go get ice cream?” Gabby asked. Spike nodded his head, giving an extra big smile. He started to walk away, Gabby following closely. Once they were out of sight, Scootaloo hopped out of the bush.
“We need to follow them!” Scootaloo exclaimed. Sweetie Belle crawled out of the bush, landing on her side. She quickly hopped up excitedly.
“Yeah let’s go!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed, running after Spike. Scootaloo followed close behind, excited to see what would happen next. Applebloom walked out of the bush, letting out a sigh.
“This ain’t gonna end well.”
Spike and Gabby stood in a line at the ice cream parlor. Spike scanned the selection, already knowing what he wanted.
“What do you want?” Spike asked, turning to his crush. Gabby let out a hum, thinking to herself.
“I can’t decide, do you suggest anything?” Gabby asked. Spike nodded his head.
“Strawberry peanut butter swirl is great, you should try that.” Spike suggested.
“That sounds good.” Gabby said with a smile, making Spikes heart melt.
”Psst.” A voice whispered. Spike turned around to see Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and Applebloom sitting in a booth in the corner of the parlor. Scootaloo gestured for Spike to get closer, making sure she wasn’t seen.
“Can you order for me? I need to go to the bathroom.” Spike stated. Gabby nodded her head and Spike made his way to the back of the parlor. He approached the table and leaned on it.
“It’s time to make your move, asked her out.” Sweetie Belle ordered. Scootaloo shook her head.
“No, you have to wait. Girls love being in suspense.” Scootaloo stated. Sweetie Belle stared at Scootaloo with a look of confusion.
“YOU’RE A GIRL! YOU HATE BEING IN SUSPENSE!” Sweetie Belle shouted. Scootaloo quickly covered her mouth, shushing her.
“Hey, babe, I have a secret to tell you.” Scootaloo said. Sweetie Belle dramatically rolled her eyes.
“What’s the secret?” She asked. Scootaloo leaned in close, getting inches from her ear.
“I can’t tell you. See suspense! Isn’t it cool?” Scootaloo asked, doing jazz hooves. Sweetie Belle let out a groan and hit Scootaloo in the face with a menu. Scootaloo picked up her menu and hit Sweetie Belle back. Soon, both fillies were slapping each other with there menus. Applebloom let out a sigh.
“Ignore them, they do this every week. Just be yourself, she’ll like you better that way.” Applebloom said. Spike gulped nervously, now regretting this plan.
“Hey guys, are you getting ice cream too?” Gabby asked, making Spike jump. He quickly turned around and leaned on the table.
“What’s up babe?” Spike said awkwardly, doing finger guns. Gabby chuckled and held out a chocolate ice cream cone. Spikes face turned red and he took the ice cream cone, taking a lick. Sweetie Belle quickly slapped the menu out of Scootaloos hooves, making the menu hit the window and slowly slide off.
“Spike has something important to ask you.” Sweetie Belle said with a wide grin. Gabby tilted her head.
“What is it?” Gabby asked, now curious. Scootaloo covered Sweetie Belles mouth with her hoof.
“He doesn’t have anything to tell you at all!” Scootaloo exclaimed. Spikes face burned red. He tried to hide his face behind the ice cream. Maybe he could just melt away.
“What’s going on?” Gabby asked, looking at Spike. He hid his face in his jacket, his face burning red.
“I...um.” Spike stammered out, not knowing what to say. Gabby put her claw on Spike’s shoulder, looking him in the eyes.
“It’s okay Spike, whatever you need to ask me, I’ll understand.” Gabby said with a smile. Spike took a deep breath in and shut his eyes tight.
“Will you go on a date with me?!” Spike asked. Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, and Applebloom froze, waiting for Gabby’s answer.
“Is that what all of this is about? The silly costume and all of the poetry? Of course I’ll go out with you Spike.” Gabby said. Spike let out a sigh of relief.
“You should’ve just been yourself, I like you better that way.” Gabby said with a smile. Spikes cheeks heated up.
“That’s what I’ve been telling ya!” Applebloom exclaimed, slamming her hooves on the table. Spike chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
“You’re right, I should’ve.” Spike said sheepishly. Gabby grabbed Spikes hand with her claw.
“When should we have the date?” Gabby asked, making her way out of the store. Spike let out a hum, thinking.
“How about Saturday, I don’t have any chores to do that day.” Spike said as he walked out of the parlor, holding Gabby’s hand.
“See I told you my plan was going to work.” Scootaloo said cockily. Sweetie Belle furrowed her brows.
“What do you mean? If anything your plan failed!” Sweetie Belle exclaimed. Scootaloo stuck her tongue out, throwing a balled up napkin. Sweetie Belle scowled and threw it back. Soon, both fillies were throwing things at each other back and forth. Applebloom sighed and placed her head on the table.
“You two are ridiculous.” Applebloom stayed with a sigh. She looked out the window to see Spike and Gabby happily holding hands and talking to each other.
At least their plans worked.
