Prologue: The Nightmare Begins

All Fluttershy wanted was to have a normal day at her cottage. She wanted to feed her animal friends and relax without having to worry about some kind of crisis happening in Equestria that would lead to another scary situation with some kind of new villain or horrifying monster. She hoped that she could at least get a much needed break, especially since it had been a couple of weeks since the last time a villain had attempted to take over Equestria.

Of course, even if she wanted to have a normal day, it did not mean that she had to ignore her responsibilities. The pegasus still needed to feed her animals and care for them. A sign that was apparent when it was still early in the morning and was greeted by the bunny rabbit, Angel, tapping his right foot impatiently.

She couldn’t help but giggle as she hopped out of bed and began to make her way downstairs. “Oh, Angel… You can be so impatient sometimes.”

It was rare for her to have a normal, quiet morning, and she wasn’t going to waste a second of it as she made her way towards the kitchen where she was greeted by her other animal friends. “Hehehe, good morning everyone… Now don’t you worry, I’ll make sure you all are fed.”

This excited all of her animals as the birds flew over to Fluttershy impatiently, causing the shy pegasus to giggle as she pulled out some bird feed and began to fill their bowls. However, she soon felt a slight tug on her tail, causing her to look down to find Angel looking at her with a scowl as he began tapping his foot again, waiting to receive breakfast to which Fluttershy rolled her eyes as she began to make her way over to the fridge and pulled out a bowl of freshly chopped carrots and feed the impatient rabbit.

Once the pegasus had made sure that she fed all the animals though, it was time for her to finally eat something. Just as she was about to reach over to one of the cabinets for a bowl. She felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. She quickly turned and was faced with a pink earth pony with a crazy poofy mane and tail with a large grin plastered on her face.

“Hiya Fluttershy!”

“EEEH!” She screamed, falling backwards as a bowl landed face down on her head like she was wearing it as a fancy hat. “P-Pinkie? I-I didn’t see you there.”

“Eheh! Sorry about that Flutters, I just got really excited since I’m throwing a welcome home party for Rainbow Dash since she’ll be coming home from the Wonderbolt’s Tour and I wanted to see if you’ll still be coming, but I mean of course your coming since she’s our best friend and all, but I really, really, really, REALLY, wanted to see you and noticed you through your window.” She said, taking a deep breath and exhaling before she continued on. “So I thought I’d drop in and say Hiya! But then you went EEEEHH! And now we’re having this conversation!”

“It’s okay… Um… I was just a little surprised Pinkie, but how’d you get in here? I could have sworn the front and back doors were locked.” She asked as the hyperactive earth pony scratched behind her ear with her hind leg for a moment before pulling her right next to her.

“No need to worry about the little details Fluttershy, what we need to do right now is get ourselves some good grub! Not some plain old boring cereal! I’ve heard about this great place where they make a thing called a crepe… With Chocolate inside them!!!” Pinkie explained, as her eyes lit up with excitement, but before the shy pegasus could reply, there was soon a loud noise coming from the front entrance. “Huh? Looks like somepony has an early morning visitor!”

Knock Knock Knock!!

“Oh, I’m coming.” She replied. ‘I wonder who is who could that be?’

When Fluttershy opened the door, she was greeted by a charming black stallion wearing a brown overcoat with a matching hat. He gave a gentle smile that made the shy pegasus squeak, but before she could say anything she soon felt a pair of hooves on her back as her eccentric friend appeared over her. “Huba, huba, I haven’t seen you before!”

“Hehehe… It’s a pleasure to meet you both, I am Mr. Bakesworth and I take it that this lovely cottage belongs to… Fluttershy was it?” The stranger asked.

“Well, your in luck… This right here is Fluttershy!” Pinkie replied, pushing Fluttershy toward the stallion, causing her to hide behind her mane.

“Um… yes… I’m F-Fluttershy.”

“Well I hear that you actually pet sit and I was wondering if I could come in and discuss with you about watching my little Mothy for the weekend as I am going to Canterlot to take care of some… Unfinished business. If you don’t mind hearing me out of course?” He replied, winking at the shy mare as she nodded her head in response.

“Well… I’d love to pet sit for you… Come inside, I was just about to make some tea,” Fluttershy said, opening the door for the stallion so he could come in.

“So… Mr. Bakersworth, what kind of pet do you have? Huh, huh, huh!? I bet it’s a baby alligator like my gummy!” Pinkie said, giggling as she hopped around the stallion.

“You more hyper in person aren’t you, Pinkie Pie?” He asked.

“Aww… You know me?” Pinkie asked.

“Oh I know the two of you quite well… I mean who hasn’t heard of the Elements of Harmony and their heroic deeds? But anyways there’s actually a more important matter that I needed to speak with Fluttershy about concerning something, but you being here makes things a whole lot easier Pinkie Pie.” He replied, grinning as the shy pegasus brought out a pot of tea and three cups. “Now that we are all here, may I ask you two something?”

“Um… S-sure?” Fluttershy asked nervously.

“Don’t you two get tired? Tired of risking your life everyday for ponies that don’t always appreciate the hard work you do?”

“N-not… really,” Fluttershy sighed, “T-Though… I d-did always want to take a break-”

“Ooh! Ooh! You mean like a friendly vacation!?” Pinkie interjected, “Then we should all go-!”

“A vacation… Not what I meant, but I suppose it fits for what I’m about to do anyways.” He said nonchalantly as he suddenly stood up on both his hind legs. “Now my final question… What would you do if I told you that you two weren’t real? That everything around your nothing more than a child’s fantasy?”

Fluttershy couldn’t help but blink before looking over to Pinkie Pie, who was just as confused as she was. The shy pegasus started to get a bad feeling in her stomach as if it was starting to churn. Now seeing that the stallion’s smiling feature began to feel more intimidating then charming. However, before she could say, Pinkie Pie began laughing as if what he said was a joke.

“That’s absolutely silly, I mean why would you ever think that?! We’re right here in front of you! DUH!” Pinkie answered, rolling her eyes as she stood up. “Anyways, even if that were true, which is not! That’ll be super duper, amazing!”

“Not surprised that’s your answer Pinkie, but what about you Fluttershy?” Mr. Bakesworth asked, taking off his hat to scratch at his mane.

“Um… It’s… Hard to say since… I know I’m here right now. Is that what you wanted to ask though? It seems like you have more questions, but you don’t have to ask if you don’t want to. If that’s okay with you?” She replied, following up with a question of her own.

“You know something Fluttershy? I’m so glad you asked me that.” He said, smirking at the two mares as his horn lite up, locking every door in the cottage. Pinkie and Fluttershy began to slowly trotted backwards away from the Bakesworth and to their horror, they watched as his own body began to melt. Arms bursting from the stallion’s chest as a creature in a dark robe began to crawl from the remains of the melted corpse. “I’ve always… Hated… Doing that, but I doubt you would have spoken to me if I appeared… Like this!”

The girls now speechless as a tall bipedal creature loomed over them. His charming voice was replaced by a raspy deeper tone. He no longer had the face of a pony, but wore a mask that resembled that of a bird.

“W-what are you?” Fluttershy stuttered, her back now against the couch.

“We’ll let’s just say that I’m someone who can… do almost anything.” He said, pulling out a large black sword from under his robe. “However, you may call me… Shadowblade!!!”

With a slash of his sword, he carved a massive hole into the wooden walls of Fluttershy’s cottage, and instead of seeing the outside, or the hollowness of the inner walls, a vortex began to form. Shadowblade tilted his head, as a smirk, barely visible under his mask appeared. “Are you two ready?”

“WHAT’S GOING ON!!?” Pinkie shouted at the top of her lungs, as the sofa behind them was dragged into the vortex. Both mares tried to grab hold of something that was stable and could keep them from falling through, only to find that a lot of what they were trying to grab hold of was not nailed down and kept on getting dragged into the vortex.

Despite their best efforts, they could not keep this up forever. It first started when Pinkie lost her grip on a table she thought was stable enough, only for her grip to slip as she tried holding onto Fluttershy. That decision only made it harder for her friend to hold on as well, which led to her grip failing her as both mares fell through.

“Enjoy your new life… Try not to waste this opportunity.” Shadowblade stated, waving his hand cheerfully as he watched the two mares fall until he was no longer in their sight.
