Chapters Magicians, Sunsets, and Diamonds, Oh My!
Rarity hummed happily as she ran the brush through Trixie’s long beautiful hair. She had lured the other girl over to her and Sunset’s apartment with the promise of a makeover. But that wasn’t her real purpose. She grinned as she leaned up, still brushing the pretty girl’s hair. “Trixie, tell me, how’s your love life?”
Trixie blinked, turning to look back at the fashionista. “What? Oh... Well, it’s fine.” Turning back to the mirror she blushed gently. “Why do you as... Oh!” Trixie turned again, eyeing the fashionista suspiciously. “This makeover isn’t a precursor to you setting me up is it!?”
Rarity grinned and nodded. “That’s one of the possible outcomes, darling, but it could just be a makeover.” She has her own suspicions of Trixie’s crush but wanted to confirm it before putting her foot in her mouth. “So? I hear from Sunset that you’re into girls...”
Trixie blinked, blushing gently but gave a small shrug. “Well more interested really. But Trixie is not against guys but girls tend to be prettier.”
Rarity giggled gently, nodding. “I couldn’t agree more darling.” She was more than done with combing Trixie’s hair but the makeover was just a cover. And Rarity found the action soothing. “You know, Applejack is quite pretty.”
Trixie started to nod before frowning. “Wait, isn’t she dating someone?”
Rarity nodded, Applejack was dating someone. “She is indeed, I was more scoping out your type darling.”
“Oh!” Trixie snickered, sticking her tongue out in the mirror. “You could have just asked. Trixie would be more into the confident self-assured girls. Like herself!”
Rarity grinned, nodding to herself. “What about a cute shy girl, like Fluttershy?”
Trixie snickered gently. “Trixie wouldn’t say shy is her first choice but cute is always a bonus!”
Rarity smiled a bit wider. “Good, good darling. Sounds like you have a decent idea of who you might like to date”
Trixie rolled her eyes, mumbling to herself, “you have no idea...”
Rarity grinned, apparently, Trixie had forgotten how close she was. “What was that, dear?”
Trixie’s eyes widened and she blushed brightly. “Oh! Uh... Trixie was saying... ‘Trixie has an idea...’”
“I see.” Rarity snickered, nodding to herself, she was quite confident in her assumption, but some more information was needed yet. “How would you feel about me setting you up with Rainbow Dash?”
Trixie grumbled another something under her breath though this time quiet enough that Rarity couldn’t hear her.
Rarity rolled her eyes, mumbling was only fun when she could eavesdrop on it. “What was that dear?”
Trixie puffed out her cheek slightly and blew out a breath. “Well Trixie can live with that, second choice isn’t so bad.”
Rarity chuckled a little, not too surprised that Rainbow Dash would be second choice, the girl was hot. “Who’s your first choice then?”
Trixie blinked and shook her head, sticking her tongue out at Rarity. “I’m not telling!”
Rarity raised an eyebrow, to keep up the act, she was almost certain she knew who Trixie’s number one was now. Though she couldn’t let Trixie know she knew. “Darling, if you keep on like this I might think it’s me.”
Trixie laughed a bit, a genuine laugh at her friend. “You'd think that wouldn’t you?”
Rarity batted her eyelashes at Trixie in the mirror. “I am the prettiest girl around aren’t I?”
Trixie snickered and nodded in partial agreement. “Fine, if you really want to know you’re in third place.”
Rarity’s eyes sparkled slightly, that was a gem of knowledge she appreciated having. “Well thank you, dear, that’s very flattering. Though I’ll need an extra day or two if you want me to set you up with Dash.”
Trixie raised an eyebrow at that, she wasn’t exactly devastated but since she couldn’t have her first choice she really should start looking elsewhere. Though there was a sad irony that it was Rarity setting her up. “Why’s that? She out of town?”
Rarity grinned as she set up her final piece of bait. “No, she’ll need to talk to Fleur De Lis about it first.”
Trixie blinked, that was about as far down on the list of expected answers as Rainbow Dash being in the Arctic. “Why?”
Rarity chuckled. “Well from what I understand they’re allowed to date others so long as they talk about it first. I mean I’m pretty sure that she was dating Fancy Pants before Rainbow Dash.”
Trixie blushed and squirmed. “O-Oh! So they’re in an open relationship?”
Rarity nodded, raising an eyebrow. “They are indeed, is that a problem darling?”
Trixie swallowed shaking her head slightly. “Oh not really... It would... Be nice if more people thought similarly.”
Rarity grinned a bit, lowering her voice slightly. “Why is that, darling?”
Trixie hesitated but then shrugged a little. “Well, Trixie just thinks that if more people thought like that then maybe there’d be a little less heartbreak.”
“What about jealousy darling?” Rarity did partially agree with Trixie but it was far from a perfect solution to the broken hearts problem.
Trixie nodded in response. “A problem yeah. For quite a few people it wouldn’t work! But if you trusted each other... Were old friends... Or especially understanding... Or generous...”
Rarity grinned, that finally confirmed it in her mind. “So you’d be open to a less traditional relationship?”
Trixie sighed but nodded. “Trixie would be open to it, yes.” Trixie blushed a little and giggled, shaking her head. “After all, back when Trixie had a band...”
Rarity’s eyes widened for a moment before she chuckled, tugging gently at Trixie’s hair. “You’re not just teasing me are you darling?”
“Ahh!” Trixie scowled a little, it didn’t really hurt but it was annoying. “No! But you keep pulling and you don’t get any more gossip!”
Rarity grinned but went back to brushing. “You certainly know how to motivate a girl don’t you dear? So, I’ll drop a few suggestions in a few ears, and we’ll see who is interested in a date?”
Trixie hesitated a moment then smiled and nodded, it was really sweet that Rarity wanted to help. Even if it did come across as a little backhanded to Trixie she was sure the other girl hand no idea that it did. “Sure thing Rarity, thanks. This is nice of you.”
Rarity nodded, smiling gently. “Certainly darling, I just want everyone to be happy.”

Rarity smiled as she opened the door for Trixie, ushering her into their humble apartment. "Good evening, Trixie!" She grinned and bounced absently on her heels as she grinned at the pretty silver-haired girl. She also had dressed up for the evening. Wearing one of her own designes, though it wasn't revealing it was a bit tighter than her usual fare. Hugging her curves like one of Trixie's performing outfits, though still allowing her to move freely enough. She wouldn't have wanted to try and run in the dress but it didn't cause her any hinderance in everyday movement. Though any attempt at running would have been further hindered by the high heels that Rarity had chosen. This rather fancy look caused Trixie to raise an eyebrow at Rarity until she turned to see what Sunset was wearing.
Sunset Shimmer was busy setting out three places on the table. While that was normal her outfit was anything but. She had always been more willing to show off than Rarity, and that was being shown off in spades. With a skirt barely covering what it was supposed to when she bent over, and a shirt with a deep V neck showing off a generous amount of cleavage. Though Sunset hadn’t chosen high heels, she was barefoot like she usually liked to be at home. Trixie was standing there staring until she nearly jumped out of her skin at the sound of Rarity closing the door behind her.
Trixie looked back at Rarity, nervously turning her purse straps in her hands. “Uh... Hey... You two... Did Trixie interrupt a date night?” Not that that made any sense. They had invited her over for dinner, but Trixie had thought it was just a normal visit. She was in a serviceable blue shirt and purple skirt.
Rarity glanced around Trixie and made brief eye contact with Sunset, who nodded. Rarity smiled at Trixie who raised an eyebrow, regaining a bit of her normal personality now that she wasn’t so caught off guard. “Darling, would you like to have a seat?” Rarity smiled as she walked over to the couch and patted the space next to her. “It is indeed a date night.”
Trixie frowned for a moment before putting it together, at least she thought she had. “Ah!” Trixie smiled and sat next to Rarity. “You could have warned Trixie! Double dates aren’t really good for first dates Rarity!” Trixie sighed and shook her head. “ At least tell Trixie who it is?”
Rarity smiled and leaned forward, putting her hands on Trixie’s in her lap. “It’s not a double date Trixie. At least not in the conventional way.”
Trixie opened her mouth to ask a question only to be interrupted by Sunset, who was now leaning against the back of one of the nearby armchairs. “She means do you want to date us, Trixie?”
Trixie blushed gently as she stared at Sunset a few moments longer than was called for before looking back at Rarity. After a few moments, Trixie pulled her hands back away from Rarity’s. Looking nervously between the two girls Trixie clutched her purse like she was expecting them to snatch it from her.
Rarity slowly pulled her hands back to rest in her own lap. “Darling...” Trixie’s eyes shifted back to the fashionista. “I was fairly certain you had a crush on Sunset. And Sunset has a bit of one on you as well.” Trixie glanced over to Sunset who nodded. They had decided to let Rarity address most of the talking. Sunset was not as empathetic as Rarity so Sunset was letting her have the reigns of the conversation. “Would you like to try dinner with us?”
Trixie raised a hand to her shirt collar nervously tugging at it and frowning a little at her hosts. “You could have told Trixie this was your plan!”
Sunset was getting a little concerned over Trixie’s at least mildly hostile reaction, looking at Rarity. Rarity made a small calming motion with her hand and looked back to their guest. “I was worried you wouldn’t show up, darling. You might think I was teasing you and I wanted you to see that we are sincere.”
Trixie shifted, not exactly comfortable with the results of the evening. It was a lot easier to say that you were open to the idea of open relationships than to be confronted by your long-time crush and her girlfriend about it. Trixie grumbled at the explanation but had to admit that Rarity was probably right. And she'd go further to grant that the two seemed to be genuine. Trixie had to grin at the personality dichotomy between Rarity trying to ease into it and Sunset just saying it like it should be obvious.
Taking the grin as a good sign Rarity leaned forward a bit reaching for Trixie's handbag which she hesitantly let go of. Rarity moved the handbag over to the coffee table and smiled at Trixie while Sunset walked around the armchair to sit in it, watching the two. "I promise we're not tricking you, Trixie."
Trixie took a deep breath, glancing over at Sunset who gave her an encouraging smile before looking back at Rarity. Trixie was grateful that they decided to have one of them speak for the two of them, it made it easier than trying to talk to both of them, and she didn't have any emotional baggage when talking to Rarity. "And... That makeover was...?"
Rarity smiled, making a small motion with her hands, one that Trixie could only frown at, not really knowing what it meant. "It was a proof of concept, dear."
Trixie frowned, tilting her head and opening her mouth for a question before Sunset cut in with a clarification. "A scouting mission, Trix." At that Trixie nodded, she and Sunset loved their war games, and that was certainly a term that Trixie understood.
Trixie smiled a little more as she looked back to Rarity. "Ok, so you weren't just manipulating Trixie." Rarity blinked and frowned. "You were actually confirming your own ideas?"
Rarity nodded after a moment, smiling again. "Yes, dear." She leaned in and took Trixie's arm gently, smiling at her. "I promise I'd never manipulate you, Trixie."
Trixie hesitated a moment before nodding again. "O-Ok..." She cleared her throat before starting again. "Ok. Trixie will have dinner with you two. We can... See how this goes." She raised a finger as the two smiled. "But! You two have to go change." At the raised eyebrows she grinned. "You can't look better than Trixie on our first date."
Sunset chuckled as she stood up. "And I think we're distracting you aren't we?"
Trixie flushed gently and shook her head. "Trixie admits nothing!"
Rarity giggled gently as she stood up as well, walking over to her and Sunset's room. Sunset followed shortly but leaned down next to Trixie, fully aware of what her shirt was doing with the motion, whispering to Trixie. "Welcome to the family, Trix." And with that, she left a brightly blushing Trixie to her own devices while they changed.

Rarity smiled as she looked over her diary, noting a few more ideas. Switching seamlessly between plans for more designs and her other more general plans about life, friends, family, and love. She glanced up as she heard the door open and smiled widely. “Good evening Sunset!” She quickly got up and walked over. Taking the groceries out of Sunset's arms and setting them aside, much to her surprise, Rarity then hugged Sunset hard.
Sunset Shimmer wasn’t about to complain, grinning and giving her girlfriend a gentle squeeze in return. “Hello to you too Rarity!” She grinned, letting Rarity back slightly and reaching up a hand to boop her girlfriend on the nose. “What has you so excited?”
Rarity grinned as she pulled back from Sunset, quickly picking up and closing her diary. “Well, darling, I’ve been plotting!”
Sunset chuckled as she raised an eyebrow. “Who do you have left Rarity? You’ve been setting everyone up! I mean... You started to theme your setups! You set up Aloe and Lotus with Soarin’ and Pinkie Pie because they matched!”
Rarity grinned and pointed to her diary. “Oh, the key was to match their looks and their personalities!” Flipping her diary in one hand and catching it. “I am currently working on finding someone for Trixie.”
Sunset paused for a long moment, her smiled faltering oh so slightly. “Oh, that’s great.”
Rarity smiled, sure that there were only about four people that would have seen that break in Sunset’s smile, and one of them was in another world at the moment. “Yes darling, Trixie is a real sweetheart once you get past her bluster.”
Sunset smiled and nodded, picking up an apple from the bowl of fruit Rarity kept on the table. “Oh I know, Rarity.” Seeing Rarity’s smirk Sunset cleared her throat. “I mean remember I befriended her during the memory stealing... You girls took a bit longer to get closer to her.”
Rarity smiled, laying her diary on the table and taking the apple out of her girlfriend’s hand, depositing in back in the bowl. “Close to her darling? Maybe a little closer than friends?”
Sunset blushed gently, her eyes widening as she shook her head. “What!? Of course not Rarity!”
Rarity raised a hand, placing it gently on Sunset’s shoulder. “Darling, I’m not accusing you of anything recently. But back when you two first became friends? I noticed how you looked at her.”
Sunset hesitated for a moment but then gave a second nod, sitting on the couch and smiling a bit as Rarity joined her. “Yeah. Back when we first became friends I... I saw a lot of the old me in her, Rarity.”
Rarity smiled and took a firm hold of her girlfriend’s hand. “The you from before you came to our world?”
Sunset grimaced slightly but nodded. “Not so much the exact desire, she’s not after some evil power. But she is just...” Sunset let out a small sigh. “I wanted the princess to recognize my power and greatness. Trixie just wants the world to recognize her greatness.” Sunset chuckled a little. “Glad she’s... Mostly grown out of that though.”
Rarity nodded a bit. “Mhmm, she does want to be successful, but in a more reasonable, less world-altering way.” Rarity paused for a moment, adding quietly. “And I think she wants to find someone to share her life with... Or a few someones.”
Sunset stared at Rarity for a moment before laughing sharply. “You suggested Rainbow Dash didn’t you?”
Rarity nodded. “It was mentioned. Though that was about my fourth or fifth choice really.”
Sunset raised an eyebrow at that. “Oh, who’re the others?”
Raising a hand Rarity started to tick off her fingers. “Well let’s leave Rainbow Dash at fifth. Fourth would be myself of course.” Sunset let out a small snort of amusement but didn’t otherwise interrupt. “Third would be Fluttershy.” Sunset nodded, though that was easy, Fluttershy was a sweetheart. “Second would be Applejack.” Sunset frowned, she could... see that working but second was... her thoughts were interrupted by Rarity continuing. “First... Well, that’s my secret.”
Sunset rolled her eyes but grinned. “Fine, but you won’t be getting my homemade crepes tomorrow if you don’t tell.”
Rarity let out a small laugh. “Darling! Extortion?”
Sunset rolled her eyes. “Rarity that’s not ext...”
Rarity stood up dramatically, interrupting Sunset. “Extortion!”
Sunset chuckled pulling Rarity back down, but now onto her lap. “Ok, but why not try Fluttershy? You haven’t set her up yet, and there’s not that entire ‘polygamy' hurdle.”
Rarity grinned a bit, leaning back into her girlfriend. “I’m planning on trying for my top choice for her. And I’m fairly certain her top choice too.”
Sunset grinned a little and nodded. “Ahh! That’s a great idea then. But are you still not gonna tell me who it is?”
Rarity grinned but adjusted herself, turning around and straddling Sunset’s lap so the two were eye to eye. “It’s you, darling.”
Sunset blinked, opening her mouth and sitting there saying nothing for a good fifteen seconds before croaking out. “What?”
Rarity smiled, raising a hand and running it over Sunset’s cheeks. “She’s a fine stage magician. She’s a success in life like we are. But she’s lonely, Sunset. I think she’d be happy with us. I think she has quite the crush on you.”
Sunset let out a long sigh of relief before scowling at Rarity, who shortly thereafter let out a loud yelp at Sunset’s sharp pinch. “Don’t do that to me, Rarity! I thought we were breaking up at first!” She smiled as Rarity rubbed the pinched area sourly. “You do know if we bring in Trixie it could complicate things.”
Rarity nodded. “It could, and it does increase the chances of something going wrong, darling. But it also opens many more possibilities.” Rarity grinned and leaned in, whispering to Sunset. “And don’t think I don’t notice how your eyes linger on her when she’s in those tight outfits for her performances.”
Sunset blushed a bit brighter at that, casting around in her mind. “Uh... Well... I just...”
Rarity giggled and shook her head. “I’m not going to pretend I'm ecstatic about it, darling. But, just so long as you are just looking.” She reached up, returning the boop from earlier. “I won’t complain too loudly.”
Sunset chuckled a little, but still wasn't completely sure. "You sure about this Rarity? It's a big step and... Trixie is... Well, she's demanding on just her friend's attention. If we were in a relationship...”
Rarity nodded, smiling at her love. "I know, darling, like I said it's risky." She leaned in to give her girlfriend a gentle kiss on the lips. "I think that Trixie wants attention so much because she's lonely. We fix that, she'll be better."
Sunset smiled as she leaned back, nodding. "Ok, Rarity." Rarity grinned and got up, picking up her diary and humming happily to herself as she started towards the kitchen. "You really should have been a psychiatrist."
Rarity grinned as she looked back over her shoulder. "I considered it, but alas, my passions sent me elsewhere." She leaned back slightly, putting the back of her hand to her forehead. "When I think of all the gossip I could have gotten!"
Sunset snorted. "You do know about doctor-patient confidentiality right?"
Rarity grinned as she walked into the kitchen. "Another reason I didn't do it."
Sunset chuckled and called out to the kitchen. "That 'makeover' session you did with Trixie was a scouting mission all about seeing if she'd be open to a polygamous relationship wasn't it?"
"Scouting mission, darling?"
Sunset chuckled, shaking her head. Rarity spent all her spare time with her plotting and designs, where, except for the time she spent with her friends Sunset spent her time playing games, especially war games. "A proof of concept."
"Oh, well, that, or if not finding her someone else to be happy with." Rarity walked back out of the kitchen with water for herself and a glass of orange juice for Sunset, who took it happily.
Sunset raised her glass toasting her girlfriend. "To a truly generous soul." In response to which Rarity, generously, punched her girlfriend in the arm.
