"I'll leave you in pieces, just like your life was... and then, we'll meet again..."

The fading sound of the chainsaw assaulted her ears, repeating itself over and over again as she refused to believe in what she had just witnessed, layered below a disembodied weep of pain over the sound of flesh and muscle tearing apart.
Broken in both the inside and the outside, she jumped inside the house once again, a piece of broken glass scraping against her right hind-leg.

She landed over a pool of blood, her mother's right wing smeared and partially covered in the crimson fluid.
Without saying a word, she looked around in hopes of finding the rest of her mother. The very thought of having to seek for pieces of her mother made her feel sick and lightheaded, like she was about to pass out.
Only a few seconds passed before noticing a gray figure lying on floor, just some steps away. Behind the capacity of rational thought, Dinky just walked towards it, her mind still reminding her of the horrified screams that had filled the place just some minutes ago.

When she finally reached her destination, she looked down at it: she could make out the scapula at one end, a hole where one the wings should have been in the center and the sacral vertebrae ending suddenly at the other side, together with the recently torn off tail just inches away. This was her mother's torso; it expelled a sickening, noxious stench.
She jumped over it, apparently not noticing that it had been opened, and slipped over the guts, crashing face-first into the ground. Her already severed horn snapped over once again, tiny fragments of bone detaching themselves off the chipped horn. The sticky sensation of her mother's internal organs pressing against her body made bile trickle out from the corners of her mouth. Submerged in nausea and pain, she tightly grasped whatever it was that was around her, ripping the guts out of their place and making them land over her like a demented bed-sheet.

Something inside of her had gone and would never come back. Her mother was dead, and together with her, a large part of her daughter had passed away as well.

She coughed, regurgitating the cookies that Compound had given to her. Effortlessly, the half-digested mass slid out of her muzzle, falling onto the floor before her, its stench mixing with the already nauseating scent of blood and bodily waste, flaring up in her nostrils as she began to lose her perception of time. She turned back, wrapping her fore-legs around her mother's body in a hugging motion.

She lay in the blood-soaked floor for who knows how long before hearing a voice in the distance. Her ears perked up as she turned around, the intestines still over her. It was the voice of a mare, and sounded rather familiar to Dinky.

"I think she landed here... eh, what's up with the windo--" the voice rambled on, before stopping suddenly.
"Heavens have mercy! What... what happened here?" it asked nopony in particular, looking through the broken glass. "Is that a...?"

Dinky shook the chopped up guts out of over her, as her eyes recognized the mare as soon as she saw her.

"Raindrops!" she called out in a surprisingly normal tone.

"GAH! Who's there!?" the mare responded frantically, trying to take off; her wings clipped at her sides, unable to unfold. "S-s-show yourself!" she shouted in a quivering voice. The surprise of seeing that yes, indeed, there was not only one but two corpses in front of you was trumped by the shock of noticing that there's a third being that is alive between the scattered remains of what used to be ponies, which of itself was nothing compared to your name being uttered by said being.

"Raindrops, it's me, Dinky Hooves!"

The phrase hit the aforementioned mare hard as hail.

"What!? Then who--"

A silence took over the ambient. Dinky and Raindrops shared a look of incredulity, before Raindrops continued.

"D-Derpy...?" she asked, her normally joyful tone of voice being replaced by the sound of pure agony. "W-why..." she trailed off, almost inaudible, as the cold stab of reality pierced through her heart.

The door opened slowly, as the filly inside absent-mindedly rambled in a seemingly nonsensical topic. Some days had passed since her mother had been murdered. The mare that had just entered managed to make out an entire phrase of her rant before they noticed eachother.

"She is the beginning of my suffering, and I will be the one to take matters into my own hooves and take care of putting a stop to her life, and together with that, a halt to my own pain."

A nervous laugh emanated from her lips as she tried to repress those memories, the reminiscences of the fatidic moments that tormented her in her scarce moments of tranquility after the awful event. Her eyes moved all across the room, never being able to find a comfortable position; Raindrops was still in front of her with and expression of intrigue and bafflement. She had just arrived from the post office, as every day since the tragic accident, missing her lunch break for the fourth day.

"...What do you say that for...?" asked the pegasus, lost inside her own memories. The shock of receiving the news that a pony she knew had not only murdered her best friend, but had also quartered her and had had his own way with her remains had struck her with enough force, but the fact of being able to see the great amount of collateral damage caused by such a despicable act crushed her soul into microscopic pieces.

Dinky couldn't answer. A smile that only denoted a complete inner devastation was the only distinguishable feature in her immobile, emotionless body.
Between the two of them, a long silence was had; a silence that, when inside the cold walls of a room of the psychiatric hospital, only seemed to break their hearts more every time the clock hands snapped. That sound, so distant to their conversation, was the only indicator they had of the fact that the time they had spent together was nothing but part of the past. Strangely enough, none of them had shed a single tear; the sheer mind-crushing sadness of the situation had deprived them of emotions, leaving them with nothing but superficial smiles that would never express their true thoughts and feelings.

"I can only hear his voice when I think," said Dinky, suddenly. Her voice proved to be the last straw to the yellow mare: a monotonous voice, lacking any trace of empathy or life, not even close to her typical energetic voice, filled with dreams and hopes. The pegasus burst into tears, throwing her hooves around the filly.

"What happened to you!?" she shouted in desperation. "Where is that bright-eyed filly I knew!?"

"She's gone." The indifference present in Dinky's cold words broke her heart. "She has gone and she will never be able to come back."

The silence came back, a sole question plaguing Raindrops's mind: Is it possible to maker her go back?

"Dinky, listen to yourself! Is there a reason behind all of this!? What happened that day, exactly? I can... I might not be your mother, but I will be whatever and everything you may need! I can be your mother if you wish for me to do so. I want to be like her, I want to feel your love, and how does it feel like when others deposit all of their hopes over me!" she sobbed openly, looking at her receiver directly and steadily in the eyes.

"It's always about yourself, isn't it...?" responded Dinky in a low volume, her voice sounding more like a cruel sneer.
"Selfishness has led us up until this very instant, Dinky. You see, my own egoism has propelled me towards doing all of this, just like my mediocrity didn't impulse me to find that damned Raindrops and tell her what I feel. Your selfishness consists on putting your life's prize too high, just like my egoism of wanting you all just for me. You're not important to me, but you're the only way I have to reach my main objective; when I finished with you, I'll go for your mother and then I'll reach that Raindrops. Bah, what an idiotic name. Raindrops, just like the droplets of suffering that will inevitably rain over her."

The filly's voice, even when soft, exhibited a deep hatred towards everypony. The pegasus could only look in astonishment at the unicorn in front of her. Had those been Compound's words? Was that it? It was all her fault?

"I'm... I'm so sorry," she mumbled, her words bordering in incomprehensible, unable to look at Dinky directly. "All of this has been my fault."

"It's everyone's fault. It’s both nopony's and everypony's fault."

"How can you be so indifferent?" asked Raindrops, engulfed by indignation.

"After suffering with this intensity for a long time, you start to forget how happiness feels like. At least I'll be able to get those memories back when I find that pegasus and ra--" Dinky kept on talking, her eyes focusing in a far away spot in one of the walls, before being hushed by one of the hooves of the turquoise-maned pegasus.

"Say no more, dear. I'll be back from work later and I'll take you home. We'll live... a life together. I've made my decision," said Raindrops, in-between sighs. The tears that rolled down her face didn't even matter in that moment. "I can only ask you... for you to forget about pain. He's not with us anymore and he won't be able to hurt us for any longer."

"...He said that you wouldn't hurt anypony after he finished with you."

A long while passed after before a word was uttered once again.

"I love just as much as your mother did, Dinky, and I'll never leave something bad happen to you. Not... like it happened to me. Rest as much as you can and never forget who you are. See you... later."

Having said this, the pegasus mare bowed before the filly before leaving the hospital, her still present sobs hiding a determination-filled grin.

Dinky looked at the sky once again, just like every single day since the horrible incident. A letter fell from the skies, hitting the window of her room before continuing its fall.
"You will always live... in our hearts..."
