Time to Talk

Previous Chapter

Sunset sat in the diner leaning against the table, she kept staring at the menu in front or her while taking the occasional sip from her coffee. She started to tap her foot in annoyance her mind constantly thinking about why she was even there.

“What am I doing here? She’s not going to show, she probably only answered your call so she wouldn’t have to listen to her phone ring. I’ll bet she’s not even going to show up like I asked her to, and you know why? Spite. Because she hates me, and my friends for that matter.” Sunset sat up in her seat feeling a little more confident,

“Yeah, that’s right. Why would she come here? You know what? In fact, I should just go. Leave right now and let her live her life and I’ll live mine. That’s exactly what I should do.” Sunset thought to herself.

“So? What did you call me for?” Sunset froze, she looked over her shoulder to see Adagio standing behind her.

“Oh...I wasn’t sure you were gonna come.” Sunset said nervously. Adagio walked over and sat across from Sunset, a moment later a waitress approached handing Adagio a menu and asking if she wanted anything to drink. Adagio replied and she and Sunset were alone at the table, Adagio looked over the menu as Sunset watched her. A few minutes passed and neither one spoke, Sunset was frustrated she kept wondering why she was doing this, why so obsessed with her all of a sudden.

“Something Wrong Sunset? You weren’t this quiet last night...” Adagio teased a mischievous grin on her face. Sunset’s face went red with embarrassment,

“Don’t say that out loud!!” she said in a loud whisper. Adagio looked up and replied,

“I had to get you talking somehow didn’t I?” Sunset was getting angry now, Adagio was just playing around just like last night she thought and she hated it.

“Fine, then I’ll just ask and get this over with. Do you still have your Siren powers or not?” Sunset demanded, Adagio looked at Sunset confused for a moment.

“I haven’t had my powers since the battle of the bands...you know, when you and your friends destroyed our gemstones?” she replied.

“There’s no way that’s true, you have to have them to some degree otherwise I wouldn’t constantly...” Sunset stopped mid sentence her face blushing again, she sat down and went quiet again. Adagio looked at her confused, she wondered what she was about to say but after a moment she could tell by the look on her face.

“Been thinking about last night a lot haven’t you Sunset?” she teased, Sunset didn’t answer she just looked out the window to the side. Adagio leaned back in her seat and smiled, she loved the fact that she could tease Sunset like this.

“I’ll admit it was fun. Maybe that’s why you called me out here today? You want another date maybe?” she asked. Sunset was blushing harder still refusing to look at Adagio, the two sat quietly Adagio looking at Sunset the entire time with a smile.

“We shouldn’t even be talking like this...” Sunset finally spoke up, she looked at Adagio finally her face not blushing anymore.

“We’ve never been friends, every time we run into each other in fact we’ve been at each others throats. Hell, my first encounter with you and your sisters you tried to mind control all of Canterlot High.” Sunset said. Adagio’s smile faded,
“We didn’t do it because we enjoyed it...” Sunset looked at her confused.

“Siren’s feed on negative emotion, we needed it to survive at the time. And not once did we ever hurt anyone, sure we were controlling them but that’s as far as we ever took it. Made everyone angry so we’d have something to survive off of.” Adagio explained. Sunset was having trouble believing her story, but she also felt a little sympathetic as well she didn’t have the best history either.

“So why did you need to do it?” she asked. Adagio sighed and leaned back in her seat,

“You’re from Equestria right?” Sunset nodded.

“Do you know about the Melody islands? It was a pair of islands west of the crystal empire.” Adagio continued,

“No, I can’t say I have...” Sunset replied. Adagio took a sip of her drink,

“It’s where all the sirens used to live...” Sunset looked puzzled,

“Used to?” Adagio nodded,

“The sirens feed on negative emotion, we’d travel to the mainlands and find ponies or whatever creatures were having problems and gave off negative emotions. We’d feed on the negative emotions with our songs, it left them calm and relaxed the bad feelings gone for the moment. We did this for years, until...he found out...” Sunset leaned forward wondering about Adagio’s story now.

“Who?” she asked, Adagio looked out the window of the diner.

“Starswirl...he was running around Equestria at the time cleaning up all the leftover monsters made by Grogar. One day he saw a group of sirens doing what they do and he mistook their actions for mind control or some other ill deed.” Adagio continued, she took a sip of her drink and set her glass down.

“He brought every pony he could muster with him to our home, my mother hid me, Aria, and Sonata as they slaughtered them all. No remorse, no chance to explain our actions, we were nothing to him but monsters that needed to be dealt with.” Sunset sat silent thinking about how bad she felt for Adagio right then,

“So how’d you end up here then?” she asked. Adagio leaned back in her seat,

“We took the gemstones from a cave hidden in our home, they made us stronger, bigger, hungrier for emotion. We decided we’d get our revenge on everyone who thought we were monsters, but then Starswirl and his friends sent us here. He couldn’t beat us so he sent us away like every other problem he ever encountered.” Adagio explained. The two sat silent for a moment,

“I’m sorry, I had no idea you’d been through all that. My coming here wasn’t exactly on good terms either ya know.” Sunset said. Adagio looked back at Sunset, she could see she was being genuine about apologizing. She looked at the menu in front of her and finally asked,

“So...if you’re not busy Saturday, do you maybe want to go the movies or something?” Sunset was surprised she asked,

“Are you asking me out on another date?” Adagio slammed her menu down on the table and snapped,

“Do you want to do something or not? I’m trying to be nice here...” Sunset laughed. She’d never seen Adagio act like this before and couldn’t help but laugh a little. Adagio naturally started to get angry at Sunset before she finally answered.

“Yeah, I think we can hang out a little.”

Author's Note

Finally got around to updating this story, finding a lack of motivation to get it done though. Mostly cause I've been brainstorming other story ideas and working on my main Fanfic. I'll try and update this sometime soon, but like I said I'm having a hard time getting motivated for this one.
