Previous ChapterFlow awoke earlier in the morning to the sound of confusion coming from outside. He slept in his bed alone, sighing as he felt the empty space on the other side of his bed, his wife in the hospital after being attacked by one of the many drug-crazed ponies on her way home yesterday. He slowly climbed out of bed and walked to the large window, early morning light flowing in, painting the room in a light yellow glow. He opened the blinds and saw ponies standing outside their homes, some dressed for school or work.
"Daddy, there's a fence in our backyard!" Sky rushed into her father's room, anxious, excited and confused about the sudden lawn decore. Flow turned around and walked out of his room, rushing downstairs and out into the backyard and seeing the 8-foot tall metal fence that separated him and the house behind him. The ponies behind Flow's house looking at the fence in similar intrigue and confusion. Flow walked around the side of his house and joined the confused ponies, dozens looking around for answers. Flow looked up and down the street, and about 3 houses up and down from his are within the fenced-in perimeter.
"What the hell is going on, why are we inside a cage?" Flow asked his neighbor, who just shrugged and returned to looking about confused. Flow started walking down the street, looking for someone to talk to. After reaching the end of the street and the fence, he saw several unicorns, dressed in military outfits, with gas masks and semi-automatic and automatic rifles in there magical grasp. "Hey! Hey! Why the hell are we trapped in a cage?"
"Sir, I need you to back away from the fence," a soldier approached him. Flow slowly backed away from the fence. "Thank you, now, please, remain calm, we're trying to figure everything out."
"Is this to do with those crazy ponies on drugs?" A mare asks, approaching from behind Flow.
"Look, all we know," the soldier gestures to the rest of the armed unicorns. "is that the Equestrian military was tasked with walling off certain areas of Canterlot, Ponyville, Manehattan, and other large cities. We will keep everyone informed, but for the time being please, just return to your homes, and take a day off."
The soldier walked away from the slowly forming group of ponies, leaving them to disperse on their own.
Cold awoke with a similar throb in his head, his nose bleeding and ears ringing, his eyes blurry as he shambles his way to the bathroom. He looks up into the mirror and stares at the face of the pony he doesn't want to be, looking around for Aplaxio in his drawers. Finding a small bag, he quickly empties it and fills his nose with the mind-altering chemical. A minute later, he looks into the mirror, smiling at the pony he is now.
Returning to his room, my slowed and his body no longer sweating profusely, he shakes the two mares that he slept with the other night, kicking them out of his room. He tosses them their stuff and sends them out of his house. He lays on his bed, smiling as his mind spins in a broken view of his reality. He swims in his current world, that of drugs, popularity, and sex, but as he smiles at his current self, he swims back to his old self, shy, alone, and pathetic, but on the flip side, smart and nice. His mind tortures him more as it shows him scenes where his father beat him and hurt him, scenes of dropping out of college, but it rewarded him as it showed him scenes of drinking and not being as shy, trying Aplaxio and how it made him feel like what he wanted.
"Cold, we can't leave," Cold looked up at the two mares, a mix of anger and boredom.
"Get the fuck out, go home," he told them, rubbing his head.
"We fucking can't, you piece of shit, there's a fence around the neighborhood," the mare exclaimed, getting angry.
"What?" He asks, anger having left his voice and now filled with confusion and intrigue. "What do you mean a fence?"
"A fucking metal fence," Cold got out of his bed, and pushed past the mares and rushing upstairs and outside. seeing other ponies outside and a large fence surrounding the whole street.
"Okay, a giant fucking metal fence, go see if someone will let you out, you're not welcome here," Cold told the two mares, before entering into his house, closing the door and locking it.
Copper heard the commotion outside, having watched the military assemble the fence through the early morning. She read and listened, barely able to think or pay attention.
"Mom! Are you back yet?" Copper called out, sighing when silence met her in return. "Damn."
She sighed, and pulled the blankets off of her, and sliding out of bed, placing her back legs on the ground, and using her wings, lowered herself onto her back legs and wings, as a replacement for her front legs. She groaned at the weight on her wings but slowly moved forward. She walked at a snail's pace as she made her way to the top of the stairwell of her house. Falling back on her haunches, letting her wings rest as her stomach growls softly. She soon crawls back onto her wings, and makes her way to her kitchen, grabbing some cereal.
A short while into her breakfast, a knock at her door tears her from delicious food. She took a sip of the milk in her bowl before walking to the front door, wings burning from the exercise. Opening the door, she smiled as she saw her next-door neighbor.
"Hi, ma'am, may I come into talk with Copper?" her neighbor asked, still looking about the confused neighborhood, before looking at Copper and her current walking predicament. "Oh sweet Celestia, Copper, what are you doing walking around!"
"I was hungry, and you know that having some broken legs won't keep me from getting some food," Copper responded jokingly, before inviting Quartz into her house. "Please, come in, I was just getting breakfast."
"Thanks," Quartz passes by her, walking into her kitchen, and sitting next to the seat with the bowl in front of it. "I presume the ever intelligent Copper Chain doesn't know why the military put up an 8-foot tall fence?"
"I have a few theories, my biggest one being those drug-crazed ponies," Copper told Quartz as she sat next to him, eating her frosted wheat cereal.
"Okay, you've been right before on basic presumptions, I'm all ears, why would the military be caging us in if it's just because of some drugged out lunatics?"
"I don't think it's drugs," Copper spoke out with a mouth full of cereal.
"Wait, so it's like a cult thing?"
"No, I think it's some sort of disease," she put her spoon in her milk and stretched. "Think about it, it started with one, then a few more, it's spreading."
"Okay, I guess it makes sense, but most disease's just fade out if somepony gets infected thanks to cures and antibiotics."
"I know, that's why it's just a theory, it could just be drugs, yesterday it was my biggest theory, but this morning I believe it's a disease," Copper went to stand, but was stopped.
"Here, I'll take that," Quartz took her bowl and went to wash it out. "Well, the military is saying they have no clue what's going on or why they have to put up the fence's."
"They likely weren't told so ponies wouldn't panic, but don't go telling ponies I said it was a disease," Copper demanded. "Do you mind if I come and stay over until my parents get back, I could use someone to help me with stuff."
"Of course, you're always welcome, Copper." Copper smiled, standing to walk before Quartz walked over and picked her up. "Let me just help you."
"Thanks."
Bone woke up with a jostle as the carriage he was in bumped over rocks and holes. He sighed, looking out the back window of the carriage, seeing the main road of Canterlot, empty and abandoned. Bone looked around for the ponies that constantly had the streets of Canterlot filled. Before long, a single pony walked out from an alleyway following the slow solid steel carriage, their mane, face, neck, and chest coated in red blood. Bone started slamming his head against the side of the carriage, making the guards stop and walk around to the back and opening the door, not paying attention to the pony following behind them.
"What is your deal with banging your head back here?" a guard asked, Bone not paying attention to the guard, but the single pony following along behind. One of the guards walked to the side and grabbed a shock baton to antagonize Bone. As the pony got closer, Bone saw parts of their jaw missing, their neck ripped open, and an ear missing. Bone knew that a pony couldn't survive with wounds like the pony had, but yet still the pony walked towards the guards. "Hello, are you paying attention to us?"
Bone shouted muffled things into his gag, trying to get the guards to notice the pony approaching the guards. One of the guards entered the back of the carriage and pulled the gag down from Bone's mouth, but it was too late. The pony grabbed the outside guard, digging its teeth into the neck of the guard, and tearing the guard's trachea and arteries out, the guard dead before he hit the ground. The other guard had already hopped out and was pushing the pony off the dead guard, shocking the pony with the shock baton, causing the pony to collapse as its muscles contract.
"Stay on the ground, or I will kill you, do you understand me!" The pony on the ground growled in response, before grabbing the guard and bitting the guards hoof, shattering the hoof into pieces, causing the guard to scream in pain and collapse. The pony crawled on the guard and dug into the guard's chest and neck.
Bone hooped out and searched the guard for keys to his shackles, finding the keyring and unlocking his shackles one by one, not paying attention to the pony, who grabs Bone who pushes back on the pony, keeping the ponies teeth out of his neck by a few inches.
"Damnit, I'm not getting freedom then dying to a copycat!" Bone growled softly, his voice strained as he slammed the pony against the carriage, making the pony fall off. He backed away from the pony, grabbing the shock baton. The pony already back on its hooves, and approaching Bone, who drew back and slammed the shock baton through the ponies teeth into the back of its throat, the sharp electrical needles piercing the back of the ponies throat and into the upper spinal cord. Bone pressed the button to toggle the electrical current, the pony shaking hard as electricity coursed into the spinal cord and brain, the muscles contracting, making its mouth bite down hard, cracking the metal pole of the shock baton. Bone pushed harder growling softly as the ponies eyes smoked slightly, before violently popping. Bone finally released the button and backed away, the electrical spasms stopping as the body fell still. Bone quickly made his way to one of the guards, grabbing their minimalistic armor and stealing the now-dead guard's identity. "I'm sorry Silver Star, but I will continue your name well, I promise to not return to what they want, I will try and be a sense of good."
Silver walked away from the carriage, making his way to a viewing platform that overlooked the lower neighborhoods of Canterlot, smiling and breathing in as he embraced his new personality, before looking back at the city. Several neighborhoods of about eight to ten houses were caged in, one nearby. He made his way to a set of stairs nearby leading down, a destination now set for him. He sprinted down the stairs and across streets, unsure if there were more of those ponies. Before long, he arrived at the cage, seeing several armed military unicorns.
"Halt, turn around and return to where you came!" A unicorn trained their rifle on Silver, who stopped.
"I'm here on the orders of Princess Celestia, I'm here to oversee the neighborhood, to make sure ponies don't go crazy!" Silver lied through his teeth. His charisma was a natural benefit to being a mentally troubled pony.
"Let me check with my superior!" The unicorn ran off, before coming back a minute later with another armed unicorn.
"I wasn't told that we'd be getting one of the Princess's guards here, why didn't we get told about this?"
"It was so panic wouldn't set in and make everyone think the world was ending, which it isn't, but it's better to be safe than sorry." Silver smiled softly.
"What's your name, sir?"
"Silver Star, now, may I get back to my royal duties?"
"Uh, um, yes, sorry, sir," the unicorn turned to some guards surrounding a small double door made of the same chicken wire as the rest of the fence. "Let him through!"
Silver smiled, walking past the unicorns and into the large caged in community.
"Sir, what are we lying to these ponies?"
"Because, if we tell them a dangerous virus is spreading, they'll panic, but we're going onto our second task later tonight, we are going to go street by street, building by building and kill these monsters."
"Aren't these 'monsters' citizens of Canterlot? We can't just go kill them!"
"We have to if we don't this virus will kill everyone, meaning ponykind as a whole will be destroyed."
"But... fine."
"Now remember, you must destroy the brain, don't get bit, and these things aren't ponies anymore."
"Wait, don't get bit, can't we just cast a shield spell on our body or using magic to vaporize these creatures?"
"For using magic to vaporize or kill them, it doesn't work, the virus has a natural defense against magic, which is why our top scientists are saying this was a planned attack, that someone genetically modified a virus to make it impervious to magic, and the same reason for shield spells, these monsters can just bite right through the magic, having it get canceled out by the presumed virus' genetic makeup, now, no more questions, rest and get some food, because later we will not have the ability to stop until every single one of these monsters are dead."
Author's Note
This took me so long to write... but, that being said, I wrote it, and I'm kinda happy about it. I don't really know if anyone will answer this question, but who is your favorite character out of the four and who is your least favorite? My most favorite is either Copper or Bone/ Silver,
and my least favorite is Cold.
