Prologue: First Times

Silver Swirl was a shy pegasus...quiet, nerdy, the definition of the nerdy mare. Now she wasn’t unattractive, quite the opposite, she was a pretty mare. Naturally short black mane with a silver streak running across the top center of her mane. Her white coat was stunningly bright.

But being the shy mare she was, she was often unnoticed and not oogled at by the stallions. In all honesty, she wasn't even attracted to stallions. She found her interest in other mares early on in her life as a filly. In Fact, the mare who caught her interest was her best friend, who had been with her since they met when they were fouls.

But that didn’t mean they were ‘together’ together. No, it meant that Silver was crushing on her best friend. And oh buck did that make things hard. But with shyness comes the ability to desperately, some may call stupidly, wait for the one you love. Even if it hurt.

Blue Moon was a rowdy unicorn. To put it nicely. In all honesty this mare was a wild, outgoing, rebellious type of pony. The one who didn’t take shit from others, the bad ass. She had a black and red striped mane, with a lunar blue like coat. That and the dogtag like necklace she always wore added to her roughness.

Now you may be thinking... how a nice quiet and shy mare would have ended up being friends with a rough, loud, and outgoing mare like Blue?

She had been in love with her ever since they were fillies.

During a special day at Flight School, a group of unicorns were having a class field trip to teach the students about the pegasi. The unicorn fouls were all too distracted by the fact that they were walking on clouds (thanks to a cloud-walking spell from the professor) to pay attention to anything their teacher was telling them.

Now Blue, being the rebel she was, diverged from the group to see the pegasus students. But instead of finding a bunch of cool pegasi doing amazing tricks, she found that they were just like normal students from her school. That was when she found a group of pegasi all huddled around a young filly, laughing at her and taunting her.

There were a lot of things Blue did that others didn’t look on with a lot of praise; that list including stuff like waking up an Ursa Minor, convincing the entire town population that Winter Wrap-up had come early, luring a dragon into her mother’s house, etc. etc. On the short list of things Blue would not put up with was bullying.

Within moments Blue had the pegasi crying back to their mothers covered in bruises and scrapes. The timid pegasus she had defended didn’t look up until Blue assured her it was clear. When she did, she was met with a pair of playful and comforting violet eyes.

That was the moment Silver Swirl not only realized she was a filly-fooler, but the day she fell in love with Blue Moon. In the time since then, the two of them grew to be inseparable. Blue acted like Silvers big sister, making sure no one messed with her. This had only caused her feelings towards the unicorn to grow.

But she doubted her feelings were requited, and thought Blue only saw her as a little sister. She doubted she would ever confess her true feelings for her, so her admiration only grew into one of the worst things a young heart can deal with.....an unrequited love, or a crush.
