Chapters Prologue: Twilight
In the plans of the crystal empire near the entrance was a head of a stallion and a head of a mare but in crystal both where impaled on pikes. They were Prince Shining Armor and Princes Cadance. Cadance head was still a face of horror as when see saw the King Sombra ripped off her husband's head off. Sombra turned Cadance in to crystals just like Amore and she shared the same fate, all was left was of Cadance was her head her body was thousands of shards. Shining Armor try to defeat the King of Shadows but he die, in fear. Fear for his wife. Fear for his sister, and her friends. For all of Equestria.
Three days later.
Twilight was crying. She feel alone and forgotten. She prayed that her friend are alright. She hope they will get Princess Celestia and Luna. She hope this was a nightmare, a dream but it was not. But she had 'that memory' of.. of her brother.
"Shinny.." she whimpered. Warm tears flow from her eye to her cheeks. The memories of King Sombra ripping her brothers head off his body with his magic and slamming it down on a pike came rushing back. "C.. Cadance." Another memory of her sister in-law and foalsitter being turn in to crystal by King Sombra with that flash of light then shader in pieces. It was a odd spell that Twilight questioned and how strong was King Sombra's hooves where if he can destroy a pony that was turn in to crystal by stomping the ground one of his hooves. But she refused they where dead. She wanted to go and hug the head of her brother. But she was locked in a dungeon tower, chained, and locked up.
The last of crystal ponies residents was gone since King Sombra came back and he is planning to open the shadow prison that is under the empire. Although he wanted to wait he had 'unfinished business to attend'. A mare that will not accept her defeat. A mare that cries on end to end only to sleep and then cry more. He mocking her on her defeat and how she shouldn't trust a dragon with the crystal heart. But today was different.
"Just kill me already... please." She begged to him.
King Sombra gave her a dark, sadistic laugh in reply. "Then we will miss out all the fun. After all. I have a special plans for you , Twilight Sparkle." He point at her when he said 'you'.
That sent a shiver down her spine, thinking about what he had planned in his mind for the future. All that mattered, thought, was her friends and spike where safe. She hoped they get to Princess Celestia and Luna. So they can end Sombra and rescue her.
"Princess Celestia will rescue me." Twilight said defiantly. Tears brimming her eyes.
"Sweet Twilight." Sombra crooned chillingly. "She's yet to even to show up, and I'm was surprise of that. When I first took the empire from Princess Amore, She came in minutes to inprison me. What makes you think she will come for you."
"Because I am her favorite student!" Twilight said proudly.
"Really now." Sombra mused. For a pony to be a student of Celestia's is meant that they are worthy. Possibly powerful. And now he knows that Celestia had more that one student. Sombra smiled. "Young mare." he chuckled. "I could teach you magic when my master showed me how to control the magic that my mother gave me. The magic I can teach you is far older of that alicorn."
Twilight Sparkle's eye widened with anger. "Don't you FUCKING dare insult the princess like that." she roared, "And I will never join you! I would rather die by your hands that betray the princess, and I don't think you master is powerful that the princess!!"
King Sombra had to should the last think that his master gave him when he died. But he was smiling of how angry she was. "My master was the great emperor of all he saw, Lord Grogar." He pull out Grogar's bell. "It still has his magic in it before he died. And it has your brother's and sister in-law's magic too."
Twilight was shaking in fear, she read about Grogar and he was dead for a long time. Sombra saw the defiance in her eye and a bit of fear. He sighed deeply. "Perhaps, we have a lot of training ahead of us." The King then grinned darkly. Sadisticly. "Let's see how long it will takes for a mare like you to break." His blood red crystal horn started to glow red at the tip and hands glow red too.
Twilight could only scream as she endured her worst nightmare over and over. Seeing the same disappointment look on Princess Celestia's face would forever embed itself in her mind. King Sombra enjoyed ever second of the younger unicorn's cries and suffers. He focused hard to break her will. Making the nightmare spell to seem more real. Twilight covered her head with her hands. Curling up on the cold, unforgiving floor and screamed at the top of her lungs while tears coursed down her face. King Sombra eventually stopped after a half-hour to rest.
"My.." he panted, "You're a strong mare. aren't you?"
Twilight weakly opened her eyes; both were puffy and red from the crying she's done. She slowly got on her hooves. "I... will... never break.. to.. you..." She said weakly, "P.. Princess... Celestia... will come for me.. and... end you . You'll see."
King Sombra smirked. He couldn't help but admire on her strong will. "I can assure you. She will never come to save you." He said as he got close to her "If your 'friends' can survive the north's terrain, that is."
"M-my friends will get to her! You'll see! Princess Celestia and the Royal Guard will come and stop you!"
"Mmm." King Sombra stared at the young mare. This was going to take much longer then he originally intended. He needed a pony will powerful magic to open shadow prison so his people can be free. It can't be a Royal Umbrum alone, it had to be a powerful unicorn or an Alicorn and a Royal Umbrum. "It appears I have a lot of work to do with you.." he murmured. He Then narrowed his crimson irises toward the young mare and grinned darkly. "Let us begin round two of your 'lessons', then." He chuckled as his blood red crystal horn started to glow red at the tip once more.

(CH1) Gray Sky
The sky was gray over all of Equestria.
Rainbow Dash glided down to Canterlot, and landed on the cobblestone street. She is wearing a black shirt, black pants and black hoof shoes. The only time she wears black as it did not match her mare and fur. She walked amongst the other ponies that lived in Canterlot, who were dressed in black. All of whom had a mournful expression on their face. A few with tears in their eyes. Rainbow Dash had a neutral expression. But it didn't hide the anguish she felt storming inside of her.
Like rough waves crashing against large rocks during a bad storm at sea. She refused to shed a single tear until she arrived at her destination. Which is the same destination every other pony was heading to. All of the stores and businesses were closed for the day. Signs saying "Closed" hung on the doors as the as the owners quietly walked along with the other residents ponies. Rainbow Dash never liked the big cities, she felt like she was being watched.

There was a location in Canterlot that was rarely been used. A spot that looks over all of Equestria. At least, the areas you could see. You can see the Everfree Forest, Cloudsdale , and Ponyville. A sea of gray blanketed the sky. Darkening the landscape in a gloomy setting that would be fit for a sad film. Ponies for all species were seating in the chairs that were available. The trees surrounding them were decorated mostly black ribbons, there where some of purple and blue with pink. Three separates portraits were standing at the front surrounded by a variety of flowers. The left portrait feature Shining Armor; grinning and dressed in his Canterlot Royal Guard armor. In the Middle one featured Princess Mi Amore Cadenza or Princess Cadance; she was dressed in her royal attire. The one on the right featured Twilight Sparkle; in that portrait it should her in a blue button up shirt with a purple skirt that has her cutie mark on it. She was surrounded by books and smiling sweetly.
Rainbow Dash spotted her friends sitting at a part of the front row that was specially reserved for them. Pinkie Pie was dressed in a black dress with a black rose corsage in her hair. Applejack wore a black shirt with black jeans, she wore a black bandana around her neck and she was not wearing her hat she had it in her lap. Her head bowed respectfully. Fluttershy wore a black gown decorated in black ribbons; a black ribbon tied around her neck as well. She seemed to be on the brink of tears. Rarity was dressed in a long black dress and had a few black bows in her elegant, and her purple hair. Spike was sitting beside her wearing a suit with a black bowtie around his neck. Tears already brimming his eyes.
Rainbow Dash quietly took the empty seat by Pinkie Pie. Rainbow spotted somepony setting behind her it was Prince Blueblood, she thought to herself 'what is he doing here'. He had a red rose in his hand and wore a black suit and a black bowtie. He was crying? The normally Pinkie Pie seemed to acknowledge her presence, but said not a word. None of them did. Rainbow looked to the row on her right and spotted Twilight and Shining's family. Their mother weeping heavily while their father had his arms wrapped around her in comfort. But he too seemed to be reaching his breaking point.
The Royal guards where present, there as they where some rifle stallion and one of them had a trumpet. The new Royal guard Caption Iron Hoof was just a lieutenant, now he is caption. He was Shining Armor's best friend.
Princess Celestia and Luna were standing at the front over looking the crowed. Like the rest they wore black. Celestia raised her head and opened her eye, which were filled with sorrow. "Let the service commence." she said in an even voice. Trying to fight back the tears that threatened to fall. Every pony present lifted their heads up to the Alicorn sisters.
Celestia took a moment to swallow before speaking. "Today we are here to remember the lives of three very brave and heroic ponies: Princess Cadance, Shining Armor, and Twilight.. Sparkle.."
Rainbow Dash closed her eyes sadly. Remembering the entire incident back in the Crystal Empire a week prior to this. Witnessing King Sombra destroying the tower where Twilight was last seen in before their very eyes, and seeing the death of Princess Cadance. How Shining Armor suddenly went berserk and ordered them to flee the Crystal City while he attacked Sombra viciously.
'Maybe.. I could've done something,' Rainbow Dash thought to herself. But she knew that there was nothing she could've done to save Twilight. Even if she tried.
"Mow... we may begin the speeches..." Celestia said before she walked over and stood by her sister.
Night Light and Twilight Velvet were the first to go. They stood before the crowd of ponies who gathered for the service. Night Light mustered whatever mental strength he had left and spoke. "First of all, my wife and I would like to thank Princess Celestia and Luna for holding this service for our children and daughter-inlaw. Twilight Sparkle, Shining Armor and Cadance were... very good ponies. Twilight and Shining were the greatest thing that's ever happened to my wife and myself. And... for what that monster, Sombra, did to our children... I hope he is brought to justice!"
The Royal Guards couldn't get to the empire as the weather was strong and it was like the empire had disappeared. That means that Sombra destroying the Crystal Heart. But with the help Twilight Sparkle's friends being witnesses they knew that the Captain of the Royal Guard can't fight a pony with that power. But they did found the pikes heads of Cadance's and Shining Armor's the new was horror to every pony in Equestria, Twilight Velvet would come out of the bathroom form hearing that.
Spike walked up "Twilight was like a mother to me." He whimpered, "S-she was my best friend. I love working with her. I-I miss you, Twi.. W-why did you had to go!?" Spike went to his and cried. Burying his face into his little hands. It took the help of Rarity for him to walk back to his seat.
Next up was Applejack "Twilight Sparkle, Shining Armor and Cadance were great ponies I've ever met." she said griping her hat. " Twi, if ya hear up there, know that you'll always have a place in my heart sugar-cube. Rest in peace."
Rarity came up. "Before Twilight Sparkle, I didn't have many friend. But because of her, I was blessed with the gift of friendship. Plus I was able to meet a very special dragon: Spike." Rarity then turned her attention at the gray sky. Tear rolling down her beautiful face and messing her makeup a bit. "Twilight... I don't think I've ever said this..., but thank you. Thank you for everything."
Pinkie was next, but her face looked like she was about to explode it tears. "WAAAAAAAAAAAAH! TWILIGHT SPARKLE!!!" She Burying her hands in her face and got back to her seat.
When it came Fluttershy's turn, the shy pegasus found herself unable to control her emotions and cried on the spot. Balbbering gibberish that no one could understand.
Eventually it was Rainbow Dash's turn. The normally tough, strong pegasus stood before the crowd with shaking legs. Her voice cracking as she spoke. "T-Twilght Sparkle wasn't just a friend.... she was like a sister to me. We both had our differences... but I loved her like family!" She then looked up in the sky "Twilight if you can her me, I will make Sombra pay for what he did to you, your brother, and sister-inlaw." she then seat down to her see, she place her hand on Pinkie as she was still crying.
Suddenly Prince Blueblood stood before the crowed. "I knew these ponies that played down there lives on that day." he looked at Shining's portrait "Shining Armor was more that a good guard pony , he was like a bother to me." Then looking at Cadance's portrait. "Princess Cadance was my adopted cousin, she was more that that she was my sister, and.." He stated to tear up "foalsitter when she foalsitted I..l. saw a beautiful lavender filly." He looked the rose and then Twilight's portrait "T.. T.. Twilight Sparkle was my class mate in school and old friend. I was the one who gave the invitations to the gala that my aunt sent to her." He looked up the sky. "Twilight if you are listening... I... I love you, and you are the only mare that stolen my heart." He place the rose in front of Twilight's portrait. "My you rest with no pain." He then when back to his set.
Princess Luna stood up "Twilight Sparkle, Princess Cadance and Shining Armor." She said whispered. "For a thousand years I've been on the moon. Watching the Earth as it change throughout history. I have seen ponies be born in this world, and then I see them leave. But these three did not deserve his fate. Twilight... If it weren't for her and her friends... I wouldn't be standing her today." Luna closed her eyes just as a tear rolled down the lunar princess's cheek. "Thank you... Twilight... I'll make sure that Sombra will be put to justice.. I can promise you that..."
Princess Celestia was the last to go. There was a brief moment of silence as she stared at everypony present. As if looking into their minds and souls. In a slightly cracked voice, she spoke. "Shining Armor will be remembered as a bravest stallion that sacrificed his live for Equestia history. Princess Cadance.. was.. more.. like a daughter to me.. ever if.. she was not related... in blood. As for Twilight Sparkle...." Celestia suddenly found herself struggling to speak a bit. Wave of emotions coming at her all of a sudden.
Luna looked as her sister and put her hand on her shoulder. "Sister?"
Celestia calmed down and smiled at her little sister. "Thank you, Luna." She said before continuing. "Twilight Sparkle was the greatest student I've ever had the pleasure to know. She devoted to not only her studies, but also her family and friends. And... she was just a student like the others pony I teach before.... She was like a daughter to me... I loved her like I did with Cadance. I sometimes saw her as one. Night Light and Twilight Velvet were blessed to have such an amazing daughter. And son, as well." Celestia then shot her head up and a determined look appeared on her face. "From this day forward! I will do all it takes to bring the wrath of the sun to Sombra! All of Equestria will make sure that Twilight Sparkle, Princess Cadance and Shining Armor will not die in vain!" She stomp her right hoof to the ground. Leaving a few small cracks.
At that moment, everypony shot up and cheered. Supporting Celestia's commitment. Celestia rasied her hand and the everypony silenced immediately. "Now... we shall conclude the service with first the Royal guard 'Taps' to honor Shining Armor's serves. Then we will have a moment of silence."
As Celestia said that the Iron Hoof looked as his men. "Ready!" he said. the rifle men stood attention and aim there rifle in the air in a 45 degree angle. "Fire!" They fired the blanks, then the trumpeter play Taps. In the middle of the the Taps they fire again, and again. Then they where done, Iron Hoof walked to Twilight Velvet in his hands was a flag of Eqestria in a Triangle with medal on the top. He handed the flag the her. "Mrs. Velvet your son had served the highest honor, The Solar Star. Also he was my best friend and a brother in arms."
Twilight Velvet hold the flag a started to tear up again. "Thank you.." Iron hoof then walk back to his men. Then the moment of silence began.
Celestia looked at the portraits of Twilight Sparkle, Princess Cadance and Shining Armor. "Sleep well,Twilight Sparkle, Princess Cadance and Shining Armor..." whispered as her tears started to fall.
(CH2) Twilight's Sweet Pareidolia
Twilight yanked and pulled at the metal chain that was attached to the metal collar attached to her neck with her hands. She could use magic but with the null ring on her horn where was not used of that. She looked out of the window with crystal bars and saw nothing but white. The north storm was violent with lightning and cold, but never touched the city. She knew that some how King Sombra can control the north storm, she knew the crystal heart can do that but Sombra destroy it in front of her. She felt like Sombre's pet with being lock up.
Suddenly she herd some pony walking close to the her door. When the door open it was King Sombra in his armor. He smiled at her "My.." Sombra purred when he looked at her, "You look lovely in chains."
Twilight grunted before glaring dangerously at the tyrant. "As soon an I get outta here-!" Twilight yelped when she lost her balance and accidentally slipped onto the crystal floor. The dark king chuckled in amusement.
She's a tought mare. He thought to himself, as he continued to watch her fight with the chain. I've tried all of my nightmare spells, but none of them are strong enough to break her. It's no wonder she was able to last this long. I must try harder. She must see things my way...
Suddenly a idea came in his head Yes. He thought. I will should her what happen in canterlot, what I saw. He smiled with this plan. Umbrum's can show members to other, its why we where know as the ponies of truth and knowledge. He looked at Twilight. The only way I'm going to break her is to show her the truth. A pony like her loves books and knowledge.
He looked at Twilight, she was still yanking her chain and fell on her back in exhaustion. Sombra smiled "Shall we begin today's lesson." he said as his horn lit up but not violently.
Twilight rolled her eyes "Oh joy." she spat sarcastically.
Sombra looked at her "You don't have to be like this way if you just give up on Celesita and join me. She will on come for you. No pony is brave to go out in this weather, the only pony has survived this is the one you are looking at."
"Y-You don't know that!" She protested at king.
"Oh, I do know, Twilight Sparkle. Let me show up." Sombra use his magic on Twilight.
Her eyes glow white, she felt no pain but she saw what looked like a funeral. She saw her friends. family and the princess. They where crying. She saw the center and saw the portrait. The left portrait feature Her brother; grinning and dressed in his Canterlot Royal Guard armor. In the Middle one featured Princess Cadance; she was dressed in her royal attire. The one on the right featured her; she was wearing the same outfit she worn when she when to the empire.
Sombra ended the spell, he looked at Twilight. her eye where back to normal and tears came from them.
"No." She said softly. "That's not true."
"O, yes it is Twilight." Sombra said "And it's been a month sense have came back at took my home of my people."
"You.. enslave your people." Twilight said.
"No." Sombra said. "I am not those ponies that raped and killed my people in that war of the north!" He said angrily as he got close to her "I am not a crystal pony. I am a Umbrum, a pony of shadows. My people when my mother was a princess, her Father and Mother ruled the lands in peace and I have taken it back. From all of the crystal mountain, to the area you ponies call Rainbow Falls but it was call Crystal Falls. We umbrum's created this storm with is why the crystal ponies need that amalgamation of a weapon."
Twilight looked at the king in anger was in her eyes. "The royal guard will find you and kill you."
"I have not see any guards in the north." King Sombra said. "They will not find you, Twilight Sparkle. You will join my side as my apprentice," He grabbed her neck "and my Queen. Your so call 'friends' care not nothing for you. Neither does you beloved mentor, she thinks that you and your brother and your sister in-law and your 'friends' are just pawns in her little game. The only pony that can control the sun, moon, and stars was Celestia when her sister was on the moon."
"SHUT UP!" Twilight screamed and slapped the tyrant and quickly covered her ears. "Just SHUT the FUCK up already!"
Sombra snapped. "You shall NEVER show disrespect towards ME!!!!"
Suddenly the storm got strong outside, as you can here the lightning getting louder. Twilight tried to put up a brave face, but found that she was too frightened to more a single muscle. Instead she crawled away from the enrage king until she curled herself up against the corner of her cell. Pressing against the cold walls and shielding her face with her hands.
"I will break you, Twilight." Sombra vowed. His eyes flashing green as light purple smoke flow from the corners of his eyes. "And I will use any means necessary to do so" His horn glowed before he struck her with the nightmare spell.
Twilight screamed from the agonizing pain that now coursed throughout her body. She was now enduring the same nightmare she's been having ever since her capture.
Princess Celesita with her white dress had a face that looked grim. She shook her head and looked away from her. Clearly disappointed by her failure. Twilight collapsed onto the carpeted floor and crying heavily. "You call yourself my student?" Celsetia scoffed as she narrowed her eyes at her. "Hmph. Some excuse for a student who can't do even one thing right."
"Princess! Please come back! I'm sorry! I'll try harder next time! I promise! Please don't leave me!"
Twilight wailed on the floor. Frantically crying out to someone who wasn't really there. Sombra grinned at his current results and forced more power into the spell. Hoping to add more effect in on the spell. Twilight suddenly screamed in sheer horror.
"No, Please! Princess Celestia! Please don't kick me out! I'll will try harder! Just give me another chance!"
Celestia narrowed her eyes in anger at Twilight and said, "No more chances, Twilight Sparkle! You are nearby no longer my student! I told you it was your final test and you failed it! You aren't even close to being worthy enough! I made my mistake even choosing you when I saw you the first day! You are weak! Useless! You're nothing but a useless filly! I can all was get another student!"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!" Twilight screamed in despair as tears proceeded to flow from her closed eyes. She shot out her hands in a desperate attempt to reach for the alicorn that wasn't really there to begin with. Everything felt so real that Twilight was trouble defining if this is just another one of Sombre's tricks, or if this is the real deal. It was messing with her mind severely.
Sombra knew he was getting close to break her. He can feel the fear, loneliness, and despair from her. Soon he would have her by his side. He stated to at her she was beautiful to his eyes, strong, and the element of magic. The mere thought of just touching her sent a shiver down his spine. He wanted to get this done so she may be by his side.

A month has past.
Twilight had never felt so alone before in her life. She had lost a large amount of weight during her capture. Refusing to eat any food offered to her. It was only until Sombra threatened to force feed her that she decided to at least eat a bit of food. Her eyes were red from the crying she's endured during her secessions with Sombra. Dark rings formed underneath her eyes form lack of sleep.
You just won't accept it. Won't you?" Sombra sighed after a secession. Twilight layed on the floor. She looked at the tyrant with wet, tearful eyes.
"Why?" she asked, her voice now hoarse form all the screaming she's done during each secession. "Why me? Why do you do this to me. What did I do to deserve this?" More importantly, why hasn't Celestia come to save her?
Sombra approached the fallen mare and, to her surprise, gently brushed his hand against her long unkept mane. "I do this for your own good, Twilight." He said fondly as he continued to caress her. "You refuse to listen. You refuse to believe that Celestia and your friends have abandoned you for good."
Twilight looked at him and viciously ripped away form his gentle caresses and crawled back a few feet. "No.. you can torture me as long as you like... But I know Celesita has not given up on me. She'll never give up on me she loves me. She and my friends."
Something clicked in Sombra's head 'Yes her friends' he thought to himself. With a smirked evilly to himself. "Well, That's something a failure would say."
This caught Twilight's attention and she perked her ears up. "W-what are you saying?" she asked weakly.
Sombra smiled. "Think about it Celestia told you to find a way to protect the empire. That's what I got from your memories and I only looked at the ones what befit me."
Twilight remember what Celestia said 'In the end, it must be you, and you alone.' She was in a blank stare, she failed Celesita. Sombra was right. "Yes." she said. She looked at Sombra. "She said, In the end, it must be you...." Tears formed form her eyes "and you alone."
"Well. Clearly you have failed." Sombra said.
"I...I... Don't understand." She whimpered.
Sombra sighed deeply and thought to himself. 'One last time I know that she is closed. Just one more. I want her to just join, this sickens me.' He just needed one more of the secession that this will all be over. This time make her believe it's real. He casted the spell on Twilight screamed. It wasn't long until she found herself in a familiar situation.
Twilight found herself surrounded by her friends and family. Eveypony she knew in person. They were all giving her hateful and disappointed looks. Even Spike!
"Why, Twily?" Shining Amor asked coldly, "Why did you let me and Cadance die?"
"I-I didn't think.." Twilight struggled to speak.
"If it wasn't for you my husband and I won't be die by Sombra." Cadance hissed, "I should have drowned you when you where just a foal."
"Cadance, please!"
"It was a mistake ever meeting you, Twi!" Rainbow Dash snapped harshly. "All you've ever done was get us into dangerous situations that could kill us!"
"Yeah!" the others agreed in unison.
"Dash...Applejack...Rare...Fluttershy..Pinkie..."
"Hmph! You only see me as a slave, like Sombra! You just used me as an excuse to become Princess Celestia's student! Some mother you are!" Spike snapped bitterly.
"That's not true, Spike!" Twilight cried. 'Not Spike, anypony but Spike.
"You are a terrible excuse for a student!" Celesita said cruelly. Glaring hatefully at the frightened unicorn. "I had better students that you! Equestria is better off without you!"
Twilight gasped in sheer horror. Did she really just say that? Celestia of all ponies!?
"It's your fault that Cadanes and I are fucking dead!" Shining Armor yelled. Causing Twilight to recoil back in fear.
Twilight sudddenly felt something hit her. She fell to the ground. Bleeding from a wound in her face. She couldn't over and gasped when she saw Rainbow Dash standing in a attacking position. "That's for almost getting us killed all the time!" she hissed
"D-Dash..." Twilight felt the tears finally fall. "I-I thought we were best friends..."
"YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS." the five said in unison.
"No..NO!!" Twilight screamed in sheer denial. "This can't be happening!"
