What was Twilight thinking, as she watched her friends walk away after they failed to defeat Discord?

Chapter 1

"With friends like you, who needs… enemies…"

She had never needed friends. Growing up her only friends had been the books, which had taught and entertained her, and her brother whom she had shared everything with. She had never wanted anyone else. She had everything she could ever need.

Until she had arrived here. Now, she realised how much she craved friendship. She needed it more than she had even realised.

Seeing them like this,grey, colorless, seeing kindness turn to cruelty, honesty turn to lying , generousity to greed, laughter to hate, it broke her heart and her anger at Discord grew every moment she watched her colorless friends. Her friends who had turned their backs on her. Left her alone in this fight.

As they walked further and further away, the magic left her. The color drained from her and she let a single tear fall.

She now knew, that friendship can cause as much as pain as it brings joy. That it can break a heart in two easier than anything else.

She was all alone now. And she gave up
