Mystery

WJH: What. Just. Happened?

One minute, Vignette Valencia was walking around the street, minding her own business.

Then, she saw a kid playing on the street about to be run over by a bus, so she bolted to them and tackled them.

But then, an odd sound was heard: *VROOM*

And then, once Vignette opened her eyes, she saw she and the kid were back at the spot she jumped from.

Logic would've dictated they landed at the other side of the walk at least, but for some reason, that wasn't the case.

Vignette stood up and released the kid, who ran to their parent as Vignette continued walking, this time losing herself in though.

I.S.I.J.F: I swear I jumped forward. At least hard enough to go past the bus. And yet, I landed right back where I jumped.

Vignette lifted her head.

Was it something I did?

"Opal, get down!"

Vignette turned around and looked at the source of the familiar voice: Rarity. She was standing near a tree, waving her hands at a white cat that was clinging to a branch.

The cat said nothing, and stayed completely still.

Should I help? Vignette pondered, scratching her chin. I mean, Rarity would totally not want to see me again after the whole rollercoaster incident, right? But then again, cats can be a pain if dealt with alone, and nobody seems to be going to her aid-

"Oh, Vignette!"

The girl flinched and forced a smile as she was approached by Rarity, who looked surprisingly happy to see her. "H-Hi, Rarity."

"I'm glad I found you," Rarity pointed at the tree. "My cat got stuck on a tree... Again, and I was wondering if you could help me get her down."

Vignette frowned. "Nobody else is going to help you?"

"I mean, I just got here, and I could wait a little longer, but Opal's bath's coming up and I need her down now."

That was a rhethorical question... Is what Vignette wanted to say, but she instead silently climbed the tree and went to Opal's side. The faster it was over, the better.

"Okay, little cat," Vignette extended her arms forward. "Come to me. It's time to go back to your owner."

Opal hissed and lunged at Vignette, clawing at her face hard enough to cause her to fall off the branch. But before a terrible end could be met, Vignette had one important thought:

I want to go back to Rarity!

Suddenly, Vignette was surrounded by light before she and Opal disappeared, then reappeared next to Rarity, whose arms Opal jumped into afterwards. As for Vignette, she got a couple scratches, but nothing too serious.

"How did you do that?" Rarity asked in awe.

"Survive a clawing attack? Easy, I put protective face cream on my face," Vignette answered as she dusted herself. "I used to own a cat, and I can count all my fingers the times it ruined my face with their claws-"

"No, not that!" Rarity interjected. "How did you disappear, then reappear next to me?"

Vignette paused, looked at where she stood, and slowly processed that she had gone through the same thing she did with that kid: she should've hit the ground, but instead had landed where she wanted.

One could even say she teleported to the desired destination.

"I have no idea," Vignette answered honestly. "I just thought I wanted to be back with you and not the cat, and boom, here we are."

"Hmm... This seems like something Twilight could help you with," Rarity took out her phone and began typing. "Tell you what, I'll tell Twilight to meet you at the park, and she can help you figure out What's up with you."

"Do I get a say in this?"

"If you want to understand, or try to understand what you did, then no."

"Ugh, fine."

Vignette walked away as Rarity excitedly called Twilight, and their talk was completely ignored by her, who hoped this Twilight could help her...

...

Come to think of it, who was Twilight again?

Vignette was going to get her answer soon: she was at the park, at the hour Rarity told her to be at.

It was a very good thing she managed to buy a new phone since the rollercoaster incident, else, things might've been more difficult.

"Hello!"

Vignette turned around and saw a purple-skinned girl with simple clothes and glasses approaching her.

"Uh, hello?" Vignette replied.

"I'm Twilight Sparkle," the girl said. "I was part of Rarity's friends during the rollercoaster incident."

Vignette remained silent, not sure what to respond.

"Anyway, you're Vignette Valencia, right?" Twilight asked as she reached for her bag. "I came here to help you figure out what's your magical power."

"Teleportation by thought... I think," Vignette answered without hesitation.

"Hmm, interesting..." Twilight smiled. "In that case..."

Twilight took out a small gadget and flashed a wide smile Vignette couldn't help but find unnerving.

"Are you ready for some research?"

Vignette frowned. "No."

"That's the spirit!"
