The Summer Sun Celebration is one of the biggest events of the Equestrian year, but it has always been matched by an equal and opposite event in the heart of winter. After one thousand years of absence, Luna resumes her duties as the steward of the Midwinter Solstice. Under the light of the full moon, around the light of a bonfire, the ponies of Equestria gather and celebrate the end of the year.
