Applejack wiped the sweat off her brow as she delivered the final buck of the day watching as the apples neatly fell into the baskets only a few straying here and there. She was trying her best to work of the feelings she had built up the past two days. She was exited perhaps more so than shed ever been but at the same time she was afraid. Finally she had managed to fess up to Rainbow Dash about how she truly felt after hiding in the closet for the past few years. A wave of nausea overcame the mare at the thought that she might slip up or ruin the evening. After all its not everyday you go on a date with the mare of your dreams. As applejack glanced towards the sky she noticed that the sun was still high above the orchard indicating that it was still early in the afternoon with that in mind applejack moved the last baskets of apples into the shade of the tree she had just bucked as she leaned up against the sturdy trunk running the events that had occurred on Friday
***** two days earlier*****
Applejack and Rainbow dash galloped through the whitetail woods the steady fall of hoof beats and panting were the only sounds to be heard. A short distance later Applejack came to a halt in a small clearing. A wave of nervousness hit her at the thought of what she was about to do preparing herself for the consequences whether they were positive or negative she had rehearsed this countless times in her mirror hoping that she was ready for the moment. Noticing the lack of orange and yellow at her side Rainbow came to a halt skidding several feet before turning around and approaching her closest friend
"Hey AJ are you alright?"
A look of general concern creeping across the cyan mares face
Applejack glanced at Rainbow a sorrowful look in her deep emeralds eyes
" *Sigh* No dash I reckon that everythins not alright"
"Whaddya mean AJ is something wrong"
Dash spoke as she trotted over to Applejacks side and gently wrapped a comforting Wing around her best friends shoulder.
Applejack began to sob into Dashes shoulder completely forgetting all of her “training” completely breaking down, causing the blue mare to worry that she had somehow upset the farm pony to make her act this way
" Ah can't do this anymore Rainbow it's to hard on me ta be with ya when I feel like this"
"What are you talking about AJ? Was it something I did wrong"
Rainbow spoke with a hurt look in her eyes
"Dash do you know why ah always hang around with you?… It's because you remind me of me and at first ah thought we were close friends and nothing more that I could be content with that but ever since the running of the leaves I've come to realize somethin..."
Applejack was cut off by a very confused Pegasus tripping over her words fearing the worst
"AJ Listen if this is. Because I used my wings and I …well… cheated I'm sorry I promise I'll never do it again I thought we made up please don't say you don't want to friends anymore applejack I ...I ...I"
Dashes rant was halted by a pair of lips pressed against hers her eyes widened in surprise with a twinge pleasure as she processed the thoughts swarming her mind at mach 5 speeds
Applejack pulled away in a quick but calm manor as to not confuse the Pegasus even more
"Dash it's just the opposite of that I think… well I… I lo. Love you"
Rainbow stared into Applejacks eyes the emerald pools swallowing her and she became lost in her own mind
"And this brings me to the question Rainbow would you like to.... I mean if you want to... I don't care if you say no it maybe we could. Go out sometime...."
Rainbow snapped back into reality unsure if what she heard was true or if she was merely hallucinating.
The words that applejack heard next both hurt and brought joy to her heart
"AJ your my best friend and I love you but I'm just not sure if I love you in that way I don't want something like this to ruin that for us I'm just not sure ... But if there's a chance it's gunna bring us closer together id imagine it's worth a shot but can we wait awhile to see if it works out before we start kissing?"
"Sugarcube whatever makes ya happiest I'm willing to do as long as it means I get to be with ya does Sunday night at 7 work fer ya?"
Rainbow casually withdrew her wing forgetting she had it around her companion un sure of how to reply without making a fool out of herself
"Uh sure... Yah that works so I'll meet yah here then I guess well I mean if that’s what you want"
Applejack nodded in approval a grin that could rival pinkies spreading across her face vanishing almost as quickly as it had appeared
"Yah ok ............well this is.....awkward Um anyways. I've gotta go now you know.... weather stuff ill see you on Sunday then"
Dash lifted her wings and launched herself skyward heading anywhere except for where her friend now sat. hoping to come to some sort of conclusion as to how she felt about this entire situation
*****Sunday evening*****
Applejack quickly rose to her hooves and began walking the baskets of apples towards the barn realizing she had slept into the late afternoon as she deposited the last load of apples into the cellar. She hurriedly returned to the house anxious to get ready for her date. As She entered the bathroom she felt a twinge of nervousness afraid that she would under prepare for the night she’d hate for Dash to be disappointed.
She eventually decided to go casually wearing nothing more than her Stetson and the scent of her body wash which not surprisingly was apples. After combing out her mane and tale and tying them into her signature hair bands she gave herself a nod of approval as she glanced towards her reflection and went to the porch to wait for Rainbow.
Meanwhile high above Ponyville a certain blue mare was pacing back and forth through her bathroom the time that remained before her date was dwindling and she still wasn’t sure about the idea of going out with her best friend. Sure in the past two days she had come to the conclusion that she has some feelings towards applejack that reach beyond friendship but she didn’t want to risk losing the one pony that understood her. The one pony that knew what it was like to be tormented with names like lespony and Fillyfooler
“Come on get yourself together your Rainbow Dash the Awesomest mare in Ponyville there’s no way you can mess this up”
Rainbow coached to her reflection allowing her smug grin to find its way across her face after doing a quick check over to make sure she was as ready as she ever hoped to be she leaped out of her bedroom window not caring to use the door and raising the question of why she even bothered to keep her door if it was never used
As Rainbow soared towards the farm she was sweating mountainously not because of the energy needed to get to from her home to applejacks but because of the sheer nervousness. She almost missed the orange mare sitting in front of the house and she attempted to land in front of the mare with only a few feet of distance to slow down in try as she might she was unable to Slow enough to stop In front of the mare and ended up crashing into her. The two tumbled and rolled through the lush grass Dash eventually ended up on top as the two came to a stop her lips gently brushing against the end of applejacks snout
"Ohmygosh applejack I'm so so sorry I didn't mean to I mean I.... I...”
Dash stuttered out as she crawled off of her date blushing a shade of red that rivaled big Macs coat.
"S alright Sugarcube I reckon I coulda moved sooner ... Anyways I got us reservations at The Silver Stallion should we get going?"
Dash meekly nodded in approval praying to Celestia to help her not mess up the night and that the furious blush that had overcome her face had diapered as they headed towards town side by side.
