Glistening Fangs and Melodious Belles
A Sweet Apple Trick or Treat
Previous ChapterNext ChapterOne of the things that Sweetie Belle loved about Nightmare Night was that it was one of the days that she could really let loose. Where she felt like she could really act like a foal other than on days where it was expected of her to do just that. Unlike some of the times where she’s with her sister, who expects her to act like a proper lady, least she get an unjustified scolding. When she’s with ponies like her sister’s friends, or her own friends, she didn’t have to worry about that. There wouldn’t be any Rarity to watch her and how she acted around anypony whenever they were together, or in her boutique. During those times, would just be Sweetie, her friends, and anypony else they were hanging out with. Not judging her or expecting her to act certain way than like a sweet and adorable little filly. One who was just far too naïve to stay out of any kind of trouble whatsoever.
That was the exact same feeling that Sweetie’s dear friends were feeling as they trotted along the houses of the darkened streets of Ponyville. Other foals could be seen adorning costumes that were similar and different from them. Some were dressed as monsters, while others were dressed as royalty, with one even dressed as a hidden superhero. It took a moment for the group to guess that it was actually a costume of the infamous Mare Do Well, its eye masks gleaming in the moonlight. This took Sweetie, Sheton, Scootaloo, and Apple Bloom by surprise, having not expected Element Bearers old costume to come back. Then again, this was Nightmare Night, a time where you could be dressed as anything, so it was too unexpected. Still, it was pretty weird to see somepony dressed as that character in particular.
As they continued to explore the streets, the group of for searched for ponies they could look for to get candy. They looked around for any houses that looked to be easy pickings and looked to have any candy. So far, most of them were occupied with foals that were already at the door, or already had baskets full of candy out. Some of the houses looked to be devoid of anypony, but there looked to be no candy baskets out. Let along anypony looking out for any foals that may come to their door.
“Gosh, th’ streets sure are packed tonight ain’t they?” Apple Bloom asked to herself. “There’s hardly a house here that isn’t sellin’ out candy to anypony.”
“I don’t really find it all that surprising.” Sheton murmured with a shrug as he walked beside Scootaloo. “Some of the foals here are reaching the same age as us, and they’re trying to celebrate some of their last Nightmare Nights in Ponyville as foals. It’s the only thing that can explain why they’re so extra excited tonight.”
“I honestly feel bad for them.” Scootaloo said softly, looking at the much younger foals as they road along the backs of their siblings. “Just think that after this, they won’t really be able to spend Nightmare Night as freely as they used to. Even if they do, they won’t be able to really enjoy it like how they usually do.”
“It’s kind of sad really.” Sweetie interjected, sounding slightly solemn. “It’s reasons like that where I wish that I was a still a foal, so I can still be that cute little filly. That way it’d be much easier for me to get as much candy as I want and eat it until I pop!”
“That is until you get a massive tummy ache that prevents you from eating anymore candy.” Sheton said teasingly, blowing a raspberry at Sweetie. “I can remember the multiple times where you went green in the face from having a large belly. You really did look like marshmallow ready to pop with just a single poke!”
Sweetie shot a glare at her bat pony friend. “For your information, marshmallows don’t pop on their own!” She said heatedly, a slight squeak in her voice. “They expand at the very least when they’re heated inside of microwaves! Every time I made some smores for me and Rarity, not once did they pop at all!”
“Yeah, that’s true. At least form yer perspective Sweets.” Apple Bloom shrugged with a small smirk. “Though by the end of tonight, any marshmallows that we have ain’t gonna be the only things that’ll grow like a pig gettin’ a pot belly.”
“W-where are you going with that?” Sweetie asked slowly, getting an unfamiliar feeling in her gut. “Are you saying that I’m fat?”
“Nothin’ don’t worry about it fer now.” Apple Bloom replied, not losing her smirk. “Still, be prepared for tonight, ‘cause yer definitely gonna be close to poppin’ then.”
This statement made Sweetie even more confused, but before she could, a squeak from Sheton made her draw her attention to him. They both stopped when they saw the look of absolute fear in his eyes, his wings instinctively flared with the sudden urge to fly away as fast as possible. At first, the alabaster filly was confused as to what had him so terrified, but upon seeing what, or who, Sheton saw, the answer became clear.
Standing just forty feet away from the four teens, giving out trees to one foal at a time, were a few members of the apple family. Bright Macintosh and Pear Butter could be seen at the front of a large apple stand with a multitude of apple related treats. At the back of the stand, was Applejack and Big Macintosh, the latter strapped to a cart full of foals, while the latter was giving them caramel apples. All of them looked to be having a wonderful time. A time that was soon going to be broken by the presence of the colt just feet away from them.
“Uh-oh…” Apple Bloom murmured, her chipper mood all but dissipating at the sight of her family, mainly her brother and sister. “It’s mah family. Ah really wish we didn’t need to see them right now.”
“Why?” Sweetie asked quizzically, her confusion only increasing. “Aren’t you happy that they’re all out here on Nightmare Night?”
“Yes, but that ain’t it.” Apple Bloom replied with a glance towards her phone. “It’s because of the incident that happened back at mah farm. You know? The one that Ah told ya about around seven months ago?”
“…Oh, that…right.” Sweetie cringed; the implications of what Apple Bloom was saying colliding ringing in her head like a grand central bell. “You’re talking about the day that you, Sheton and Scootaloo had your, um…three way?”
“The day that me and Sheton decided to open our relationship and include more fillies in it, yes.” Scootaloo replied softly, her tone unusually straightforward. “You remember the details that we gave you on that day, don’t you?”
Sweetie gave another visible cringe, looking away from her friends as her long curly bangs obscured her emerald eyes. She certainly remembered being told about the incident at Sweet Apple Acres seven months prior. The one where Sheton, Scootaloo and Apple Bloom had a three-way intercourse right inside of Apple Bloom’s room. It was just really bad luck that they happened to be found by her family, mainly Big Mac and Applejack. The last two ponies that Apple Bloom wanted to find out about something as big as this. It was only by the graces of Faust and Pear Butter, Bright Mac, and Granny Smith’s help that they were not turned into ponified caramel apples. Scootaloo and Sheton were lucky enough to get away from the two enraged siblings and go back to their families without any incident. Apple Bloom, however, was not quite as lucky as her friends. Oh no, not even close.
After her friends had left, from what Apple Bloom told them, she had endured a screaming rant by her elder sister. Had her parents not been holding then back, they would have surely strangled the life out of her with the ropes Applejack kept in her closet. Thankfully, Granny Smith had finally managed to calm them down, and only had her son and daughter in law release them when they promised not to demolish their sister. Despite this, Apple Bloom’s troubles were far from over, and the next couple of weeks were spent with her enduring being worked to the bone on the farm by Applejack. Fortunately, her parents and grandmother weren’t upset with her, and promised they’d never speak of the incident to anypony else. Even so, those were still a rough couple of weeks for all of them.
Scootaloo immediately came to her coltfriend’s aid, wrapping a soothing wing around his caped form. “It’s okay Sheton. I’m here; I’m right here~.” She cooed softly, her lips just centimeters away from his tufted ear. “It’s gonna be alright.”
“I…I’m not scared.” Sheton replied honestly, breathing deeply to calm his nerves. “I…I-I’m just really nervous right now. Like, going to freak the fuck out kind of nervous.”
“After what happened seven months ago, Ah don’t blame ya.” Apple Bloom said, wrapping a foreleg around Sheton’s neck. “Don’t worry, we won’t let ‘em hurt ya. They’ll have t’ git passed me and Scoots t’ do that.” She looked at Sweetie with furrowed brows. “You in Sweetie Belle?”
“O-of course I am!” Sweetie replied just a little quickly, giving Apple Bloom her best smile. “I wouldn’t be a Cutie Mark Crusader if I didn’t look out for any of my friends!”
Apple Bloom nodded in approval, before looking at Sheton and Scootaloo with a nod. They nodded back, and proceeded to make their way towards the apple stand, with Sheton shivering all the while. In just a few moments time, they found themselves in front of the stand, where they were immediately greeted by Bright Mac and Pear Butter.
“Well howdy there, Apple Bloom! It’s good to see ya over here tonight!” Pear Butter said sweetly, eyeing the group of foals with warmth. “And it looks like you got Sheton, Sweetie Belle and lil’ Scootaloo here with you too!”
“Hello Ms. Pear Butter, it’s wonderful to see you too.” Scootaloo said sweetly, her tone laced with gentle politeness. She nuzzled the mare in her chest fluff and smiled when the earth pony gripped her in a strong hug. “Are you all here selling out apple treats to other foals?”
“Eeyup, we sure are! And we’re getting’ a lot of the youngin’s here too! You just happen to be th’ next ones in line!” Pear Butter nodded, grinning at the orange filly. “And, honey, Ah told ya time and time again. Ya don’t need to refer to me as Ms. Okay? You can jus’ call me by mah own name. We’re friends remember?”
“I know, I-I’m sorry. Force of habit.” Scootaloo said, blushing in embarrassment as she looked away from the older mare. “So…did you guys decide to come out this Nightmare Night?”
“We sure did! We felt that we needed a bit of a change to sellin’ our products and decided to bring them to the folks instead of the other way around.” Bright Mac replied, tipping his hat as the teens looked around at the products. “It’s really workin’ too! We’ve had a lot more ponies come here and buy more food and treats, and some of the youngin’s have been makin’ lil’ buys themselves.”
“Well ain’t that sweet~.” Apple Bloom cooed, watching as a younger filly gave Granny Smith a few bits for an apple fritter. “Looks like yer all gettin’ lil’ future profiters t’ th’ stand.”
“We sure are sweetie! These foals are on their way to be great dealer! Ah can feel it in these ol’ bones of mine.” Granny Smith cooed back, winking at her youngest granddaughter. “By the way, are any of y’all here to git anythin’? If yer worried about it being paid, then ya don’t need to worry. It’s on the house fer the for of you.”
Sweetie shook her head. “No, actually we happen to come here by accident. We didn’t notice you until Sheton did.” She frowned a bit as she looked at the colt and at Applejack and Big Mac, who still hadn’t noticed them. “Though, it wasn’t to the two if you that he noticed.”
It didn’t take even a second for Bright Mac, Pear Butter and Granny Smith to catch onto what Sweetie was mentioning. Their smiled faltered just a tad as they looked at Apple Bloom’s elder sister and brother, before looking back at them.
“Ah, ya took notice of Applejack and Big Mac on her way here and got scared?” Granny Smith asked knowingly, giving Sheton a pointed look. Not waiting for an answer, she continued, “Don’t worry hon’ we ain’t gonna let ‘em hurt ya. Not you or yer fillyfriend. If they remember anythin’ form what happened last time, then they won’t try to push their luck.”
“They’d better not.” Apple Bloom growled slightly, holding onto Sheton even tighter. “’Cause we got enough of that these last months. Ah really don’t need anythin’ ruinin’ our Nightmare Night.”
“Ruinin’ who’s Nightmare Night?” The curious voice of Applejack asked as she walked beside her parents. Her perplexed expression soon became one of stone when she noticed the teenage crusaders in front of the stand. “Oh, howdy there Sheton.”
Sheton gulped inaudibly, doing his best to look into Applejack’s unreadable eyes. He could feel Big Mac’s eyes boring into his, but he paid the draft stallion no mind, for now. “Hello there, Applejack. How’re, um…you and Big Mac doing this Nightmare Night?”
“We’re done jus’ fine thank you.” Applejack replied curtly, eyeing the colt like he was waiting for him to do something stupid. “And I take it y’all havin’ a fine night too?”
This time, it was Scootaloo who replied. “Yes, this Nightmare Night is looking to be really fun for all of us. A-although, we haven’t really had much luck in getting any treats. Since most of the houses are already occupied, or closed for the night.”
“Well, that’s a damn shame. You barely even got a whole hour outside and you barely even got more than a few pieces.” Granny Smith frowned, looking at the bags that the foals had around their necks. “Ah don’t even need to see inside o’ them bags oh yers to know that you hardly even have a few pieces in there. Now that ain’t somethin’ that Ah’m gonna let fly, even if y’all are on the cusps of mare and stallionhood.”
Sweetie blinked in astonishment at the mint green mare. “How were you able to figure that out?”
“’Cause she’s the famous Granny Smith that’s why.” Bright Mac replied amusedly. “She can see and detect things that nopony else can see without makin’ some effort. It’s best not to question it fer th’ say o’ yer sanity. Jus’ like how it’s best not to question the random things that Pinkie and Melon Cake do.”
The unicorn fully blushed deeply, embarrassment flooding her body as well as her voice as she timidly spoke. “Good point.”
“Yer darn tootin’! And don’t any o’ y’all forget it!” Granny Smith said resolutely stomping a hoof down on the stand table. It rattled along with the treats stacked in front of it, but they somehow managed to keep from falling to the ground. “Now, enough babblin’. We got some foals whose tummies we need to fill with our apples until they look ready to pop! Sheton! Scootaloo! Apple Bloom! Sweetie Belle! Present those bags out t’ yer dear ol’ Granny so she can fill ‘em quicker than cider in an apple barrel!”
Like a group of cadets following the orders of a Drill Sargent, all four foals held their bags out, which barely had any candy inside of any of them. Pear Butter and Bright Mac frowned at this, not the least bit happy that such sweet foals had such a meager reward for their candy hunt across Ponyville. Granny Smith then proceeded to throw in candies of all various types, ranging from lollipops, bars, little wrappings and more, into the barely filled bags. She even through in a few wrapped foods in them as well. Ones that the crusaders could only guess were apple family product food, probably to add a little something healthier. They didn’t really mind that, since Granny Smith’s cooking was top notch. So, they were more than happy to take it, and hoped that they would get more.
“There we are! That should be much better fer y’all!” Granny Smith said proudly, looking at the bloated Halloween bags. “Does that feel better youngins?”
Apple Bloom beamed up at her grandmother, her smile far brighter than it was then before they came here. “Yeah! This is a lot better Granny!” She said, her voice straining a bit as she struggled to hold the bag around her neck. “I-it’s jus’ a little big and heavy around mah neck, t-that’s all.”
“Eeyup, it sure is.” Applejack nodded, stealing another glance at Sheton. “An’ Ah know that ain’t th’ only thing that’s big.”
Sheton gave the tangerine earth mare a perplexed look at her statement. The answer then became clear as his face erupted into a fierce blush. Scootaloo wasn’t too far off ahead, her face gaining the same red tint while Apple Blooms shot a death glare at her big sister.
“Well what did you expect darlin’? Ma is somepony that always makes sure everypony has somethin’ extra for what they need. Even if she does tend to go a little bit overboard in it.” Pear Butter chuckled, watching as the four teens struggled with their bags. “But if yer havin’ so much trouble with carryin’ those bags, then jus’ carry ‘em on yer backs. Y’all are strong youngins, so that shouldn’t be too much trouble fer ya.”
“G-Good idea.” Sweetie grunted, levitating all four of the candy bags and setting them upon her and her friends’ backs. She sighed with relief was the strain was released from her neck, allowing her to breathe again. “There, that’s much better. Now I can breathe again.”
“There that’s much better!” Bright Mac beamed, leaning against the stand. “Now y’all have plenty of candy for the night. And you have the next few hours saved for the rest of Nightmare Night! So that means you can head on down to the activities at the Town Square and join the rest of the foals there!”
“Oh yeah, that’s right! I’ve been wanting to try to go down there before the night’s end!” Sheton exclaimed, ears perking as if he remembered something important. He frowned as he looked down the street, and the back at the candy on his bag. “But, I doesn’t look like I can make it there quickly enough. I mean, this candy is really heavy on my back. I don’t think even I can get there while flying without letting the bag fall.”
“I figured you’d say that sugarcube.” Granny Smith chuckled, blowing her thick bags from out of her eyes. “You don’t need to worry ‘bout that, ‘cause Big Mac here was jus’ about to take these other youngins over there. If ya want, you can join him and the rest o’ them down t’ th’ Town Square!”
Sheton flinched, finally making eye contact with the Big Mac for the first time since coming to the Apple Family Treat Stand. The stallion’s expression was half-lidded, betraying no emotion like it usually did, but Sheton wasn’t fooled. He could feel the burning wrath inside of those green eyes, thanks to his own. Fire that could have incinerated him on the spot if Big Mac were able to do so. All for ‘violating’ the one pony he and Applejack valued more than anypony else in the word, and ‘stealing her innocence’, as Applejack portrayed it.
“Um, t-that won’t be necessary Granny Smith.” Sheton said, taking a step back. “We can just walk there on our own, n-but thank you for the offer-”
“Oh no, Ah insist hon’.” The Apple Matriarch cut the bat winged colt off, her tone letting him know she wasn’t taking no for answer. “As a matter o’ fact, we were jus’ decidin’ that any foals that looked like they needed a right would git one from Big Mac himself. Be it to the Town Square, just anywhere around Ponyville.” She looked over at Big Mac and shot him a warning glare, her irises glowing menacingly. “Right, Mac?”
Big Mac shrunk slightly, feeling the withering gaze of his grandmother burning into his skull like two steaming apple fritters. “E…eeyup…”
“Good!” Granny Smith chirped, going back to her usual chipper mood as she smiled at the crusaders. “Now, you for jus’ go on ahead and hop on! Gonna warn ya though, despite his size, Big Mac is pretty fast. So the ride may get more than a little…bumpy.”
“We know Granny Smith, we know. We’ve gotten cart rides from Big Mac before. Just like the last several Nightmare Nights before.” Scootaloo stated patiently as she, her coltfriend, and her fellow crusaders climbed into the cart. Once they got themselves settled in, she looked over at Granny Smith and nodded. “Alright, we’re ready to go now.”
“Good, y’all hold on tight now. Because Big Mac ain’t holdin’ back this time around.” Applejack said, patting at her brothers back. She gave a grin a that was a bit too wide as she patted rathe roughly at the Apple Bloom, Scootaloo, and Sheton’s heads. “And trust me when Ah say, he’s really gonna hit the engines tonight.”
Sheton paused, getting a very nerve-wracking feeling in his gut. ‘Why do I get the feeling this ride is gonna be a scary one?’
“You four have fun ya hear? And be sure to let us know if anypony’s given ya trouble!” Bright said, tipping his hat towards the crusaders, before patting his only son on the back. “Alright Big Mac, set ‘em off!”
Big Mac nodded to his father, and without hesitation, he took off barreling down the street. The foals screamed and squealed in delight with the crusaders joining along with them, holding onto the cart for dear life. Applejack, Pear Butter, Bright Mac and Granny Smith all watched them go until they all vanished into the buildings, before tending to their stand once more.
Author's Note

Also, I'm gonna be focusing in making some character bios, so it may take some time for me to make some updates on the next chapters of my other couple of stories. But, with how I'm sometimes struck with a huge streak of inspiration, I may get lucky
