Raymond Skystreak, or better known simply as ‘Ray’ by pretty much everyone, stirred up from his impromptu nap to a rather strange sight.
“What the hell?” Ray asked out loud. All around him he could see many of his friends and classmates wearing black formal outfits. The kind reserved for fancy dinner parties, weddings, and other such boring events.
He was quick to notice that something was… off. No one seemed to be having a good time. Rather, many of the present were crying lightly or in a sad mood. He could see his classmates from Crystal Prep and fellow students from the renowned Canterlot High chatting quietly between themselves.
“Hey, Brigs, what the hell is going on?” Ray asked a red-haired boy close by, but Brigs didn’t respond. “Hey, Brigs, man, I’m talking to you! What the hell is going on?” Ray asked again only to be ignored once more. “Screw you, too, then.”
Ray huffed as he looked around. He saw many familiar faces. Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, the infamous Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle and her dog, Lemon Zest, Sour Sweet, C.H.’s Principal and Vice-Principal, and many more teachers and students. He even saw a large picture of himself resting against a wall adorned with flowers.
Ray blinked twice as his mouth fell agape, staring at his picture for several moments. Then, he began to laugh. “O-hokay! Okay! Nice one, guys! Ohooo, I almost fell for it! Don’t you think this is a bit too much for a prank?” Ray called before laughing loudly again. After several seconds, his laughter began to die down when he noticed no one had turned to see him or react in the slightest.
A wave of dread engulfed his spine as Principal Celestia made her way to the podium. Everyone else stopped what they were doing and sat down in their respective seats.
Whatever Principal Celestia was saying, Ray couldn’t tell. His mind was blank, all he could hear was static, and his heart had stopped beating inside his chest. Looking at his hands, Ray felt his dread slowly waver until he was able to discern a few of the spoken words.

“This is my funeral. I… I’m dead?” Ray asked, looking at himself in a nearby mirror. “Holy shit. I’m dead and I’m a ghost,” Ray whispered. “I’m a ghost,” he repeated louder. “I’m a freaking ghost!” He cheered. Rising to his feet, Ray walked over to the nearest person he saw. “Helloooo! Can you hear me? Can you see me?” He asked loudly, yelling at the C.H. student and waving a hand before his eyes without him making a single reaction. Feeling bolder, Ray decided to push the student only to see his entire right arm pass through him earning only a little shudder from both guys.
“Okay, so, I am a ghost. A real ghost. A ghosting ghost who can do ghost things,” Ray pulled his arm back. “Think, Ray, think, what can ghosts do? Well, no one seems to be able to see me or hear me, and I can’t touch anyone either. On the plus side, no more homework or having to worry about future bills!” Ray sighed at his own pitiful attempt at a joke.
Ray looked at his picture again for a few seconds before sitting in an open chair around the middle rows next to his classmate, Sour Sweet. “Hey there, Sour. How’s the weather?” Ray leaned back. “What in the second ring of hell am I supposed to do now? What are ghosts even good for?” He asked himself, paying no mind to Principal Celestia’s speech.
After a few minutes, he grew tired of thinking and his eyes traveled to Sour Sweet. Ray raised an eyebrow, surprised. It was the first time he paid any real attention to anyone’s outfit. “You’re right. I can’t change what happened but I can take Ray’s memory and learn from it. Maybe that way I can help the rest of my students,” Cadance said firmly.
“That’s the Cadance I know,” Twilight giggled.
“You said it, Twi! Now can we go? I am staaaaarving,” Spike said making the three humans laugh softly.
Ray stood there, watching them go along with everyone else leaving behind only his family. He looked back at them thanking Principal Celestia for her words, then he turned to see Cadance leave hand-in-hand with Shining Armor. With that said, he proceeded to follow them.

“Ray? Hello, Ray?” Cadance called again.
“...Principal Cadance?”
“Ray? Ray? Ray! Raymond!” Cadance called louder, her voice echoing around the entire house.
Ray had no time to reply as his entire vision suddenly turned white.

Ray opened his eyes, his vision blurry. “W-Wuh?”
“Raymond, wake up!” Cadance called softly shaking the boy resting on his desk.
“P-Principal Cadance?” Raymond shook his head. “W-Where am I?”
“Finally,” Cadance breathed out, relieved. “Honestly, Ray, have you forgotten that quickly that you’re in detention?”
Ray blinked. “Detention?” He looked around to find that he was, indeed, in the familiar classroom. “Oh… OH! Oh God, I’m alive!” Ray touched his face, then his chest, then he grabbed Cadance’s face. “I’m alive!”
Cadance giggled gently pulling away Ray’s hands. “Very, I’m happy to say!” She replied with good humor rising to her feet again. “You looked like you were having a nightmare, Ray.”
“...You could say that… in a way… he, he, he,” Ray said scratching the back of his head. “Thanks for waking me up, Principal Cadance.”
“You should try going to sleep earlier, Ray. You can’t keep falling asleep during classes,” Cadance said crossing her arms. “Or in my detention hour for that matter.”
“S-Sorry, Principal Cadance, I’ll try my best,” Ray apologized.
“I’m not mad at you, Ray,” she leaned down, smiling. “You’re a great student. And I know how much work you put into your studies. Homework surely doesn’t do you any favors, especially during this time,” Cadance said patting his head. “You’re not the only one having sleeping problems, but yours is a special case. That’s why I let you catch up a few winks every now and then,” she ended with a playful wink.
Ray blushed but said nothing. Not that there was anything he could really say. Plus, the current view of his lovely Principal’s cleavage was a sight he would not dare miss out on.
“Now then,” Cadance said a moment after, pulling back. “Detention is over, young man, go home and I want you in bed by eleven. Tell you what, if you ever feel tired you can catch some shuteye in my office after school.”

Raymond Skystreak, or better known simply as ‘Ray’ by pretty much everyone, stirred up from his impromptu nap to a rather strange sight.
“What the hell?” Ray asked out loud. All around him he could see many of his friends and classmates wearing black formal outfits. The kind reserved for fancy dinner parties, weddings, and other such boring events.
He was quick to notice that something was… off. No one seemed to be having a good time. Rather, many of the present were crying lightly or in a sad mood. He could see his classmates from Crystal Prep and fellow students from the renowned Canterlot High chatting quietly between themselves.
“Hey, Brigs, what the hell is going on?” Ray asked a red-haired boy close by, but Brigs didn’t respond. “Hey, Brigs, man, I’m talking to you! What the hell is going on?” Ray asked again only to be ignored once more. “Screw you, too, then.”
Ray huffed as he looked around. He saw many familiar faces. Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, the infamous Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle and her dog, Lemon Zest, Sour Sweet, C.H.’s Principal and Vice-Principal, and many more teachers and students. He even saw a large picture of himself resting against a wall adorned with flowers.
Ray blinked twice as his mouth fell agape, staring at his picture for several moments. Then, he began to laugh. “O-hokay! Okay! Nice one, guys! Ohooo, I almost fell for it! Don’t you think this is a bit too much for a prank?” Ray called before laughing loudly again. After several seconds, his laughter began to die down when he noticed no one had turned to see him or react in the slightest.
A wave of dread engulfed his spine as Principal Celestia made her way to the podium. Everyone else stopped what they were doing and sat down in their respective seats.
Whatever Principal Celestia was saying, Ray couldn’t tell. His mind was blank, all he could hear was static, and his heart had stopped beating inside his chest. Looking at his hands, Ray felt his dread slowly waver until he was able to discern a few of the spoken words.
“...beloved Raymond Skystreak. Dutiful student, loving son, a brave man. Today, we are gathered here to pay our respects to this wonderful young man…”
Ray couldn’t hear anymore. He didn’t want to. He didn’t need to. Realization finally hit him harder than anything before in his life.
“This is my funeral. I… I’m dead?” Ray asked, looking at himself in a nearby mirror. He was still wearing his Crystal Prep uniform, his grey hair was spiky and trimmed, his albino skin was unblemished, and his blue eyes were still there. But something seemed off about it as well. Mainly the fact that he could faintly see through his own body.
“Holy shit. I’m dead and I’m a ghost,” Ray whispered. “I’m a ghost,” he repeated louder. “I’m a freaking ghost!” He cheered. Rising to his feet, Ray walked over to the nearest person he saw. “Helloooo! Can you hear me? Can you see me?” He asked loudly, yelling at the C.H. student and waving a hand before his eyes without him making a single reaction. Feeling bolder, Ray decided to push the student only to see his entire right arm pass through him earning only a little shudder from both guys.
“Okay, so, I am a ghost. A real ghost. A ghosting ghost who can do ghost things,” Ray pulled his arm back. “Think, Ray, think, what can ghosts do? Well, no one seems to be able to see me or hear me, and I can’t touch anyone either. On the plus side, no more homework or having to worry about future bills!” Ray sighed at his own pitiful attempt at a joke.
Ray looked at his picture again for a few seconds before sitting in an open chair around the middle rows next to his classmate, Sour Sweet. “Hey there, Sour. How’s the weather?” Ray leaned back. “What in the second ring of hell am I supposed to do now? What are ghosts even good for?” He asked himself, paying no mind to Principal Celestia’s speech.
As the ceremony went on, Ray started feeling numb. Seeing the large photo of his face adorned with flowers wasn’t helping him in the slightest.
“Can I even feel at all anymore?” He asked out loud. Raising his hands he clasped them together. “Huh, I can feel my… skin? Whatever it is. But nothing else,” Ray sighed slumping into his seat. “How the fuck did I die? I don’t remember a damn thing! The last thing I remember was walking past the girl’s changing room…,” Ray closed his eyes, desperate to recall at least a detail or two about his own demise. Yet try as he might, nothing came up. “Damn it! Did somebody format my brain like a hard drive!?” Ray yelled giving up on his efforts.
“Oh, that’s a nice one.”
Ray turned his head to the source of the voice. He found Sour Sweet stealthily coursing over some sort of fashion or whatever nonsense on her phone.
The ghost frowned. “Oh, I’m sorry. Is my funeral a bit too boring for you, Sour? It must be suuuuuuch a pain for you and the rest of the Shadowcunts to sit here wasting your time. Having to pay your empty respects to a classmate you used to make fun of.” Ray stood up not wanting to be near Sour Sweet for now.
Ray began walking around the room, uncaring if he walked through seats or people since he was now incorporeal.
“Jesus Christ. I’m dead… I’m dead,” Ray stopped in front of his photo whispering the words in an icy tone. He stared at his smiling photo for several minutes before he began to chuckle. Turning around to face all the attendees he noticed two empty seats in the front row.
Or rather, he noticed name tags where the two most pivotal people in his life should have been.
“Wow, you couldn’t even be bothered to come to your only son’s funeral? Nah, you two probably don’t know yet that I’m even dead. I should have expected no less from parents that love their work at NAZA above their bloody son,” Ray clenched his fists. “Why am I surprised? You packed and fled the moment I turned fourteen because I was ‘mature enough’. I was lucky to see your damn faces once a year. So why care your son died! You probably forgot you procreated, didn’t you!?”
Ray screamed at the empty seats with all his might before he spun around and threw a blind punch at the nearest object behind him. His photo flew back, crashing down with a loud bang. Ray, his rage diminished, blinked confusedly at the frame, then at his ethereal hand, and back at the frame. Suddenly, a dim but noticeable round of stifled laughter echoed around the room.
Ray gritted his teeth, his rage renewed. “Yeah, go ahead. Kick the dead dog some more. What does it matter, right? Go ahead, have a good golly guffaw! HA HA HA! I hope all of you choke on--” He stopped dead in his tracks when he saw three figures quickly get up from their seats.
Ray remained still, observing from the sidelines as they rushed to his fallen photo. Two of the figures were a surprise to him since he never once shared a single word with them: Pinkie Pie and Flash Sentry. Ray had heard enough about them to know they were generally nice people, as a lot of Canterlot High’s students tended to be.
“Now that I think about it… almost everyone that laughed was from Crystal Prep Academy. Fucking Cinch,” Ray cursed as his focus shifted entirely to the third figure.
It was no surprise, at least to him, to see the beautiful soon-to-be-Principal Dean Cadance had rushed to help him, even in his death. More than once she had permitted him to use one of her super-comfy office chairs for a quick power nap after school in her office. And she had certainly aided him a lot when dealing with the Shadowbolts.
She embodied everything that her predecessor was not, and Ray could not think of any higher praise. Abacus Cinch was an overly-ambitious twat who cared not for her students and showed no hesitation in using them for the sake of advancing Crystal Prep’s (or more accurately, her own) reputation.
Dean Mi Amore Cadenza, or Cadance for short, was an exemplary teacher. Dedicated. Trustworthy. Impossibly patient. Intelligent. Stern without being imposing. Attentive. Understanding. And genuinely preoccupied with the best interest and well-being of her students above all else.
Not to mention Dean Cadance was the most gorgeous woman Ray had ever met. And taking into account Principal Celestia and Vice-Principal Luna, there was stiff competition all-around.
Ray watched as the three kind people put his photo back up where it belonged. When they were done, Pinkie stayed for a moment longer to caress its cheek for a moment. With a nod of gratitude from Celestia, the three volunteers nodded back and returned to their seats. He stood there, a shaking arm stretched to them.
“Damn it!” He shouted, head hanging low. “I can’t even thank them. They can’t see me. No one can even hear me now,” he lowered his arm and his voice cracked. “I wasn’t that popular but… damn it! DAMN IT!” He covered his face attempting to hide his non-existent tears. “I always wanted a girlfriend to hold and hug and sleep with. I… I didn’t want to die so young,” pulling his hands away, Ray stared at the crowd in front of him. “I won’t sleep or eat or do anything all of you take for granted. I never got to experience what sex felt like,” he glared at Sunny Flare, the ‘leader’ of the Shadowbolts and the one responsible for coining his shameful nickname.
“Shameful?” Ray whispered. “No, not shameful. Not anymore. It doesn’t matter, now does it? So what if I’m the Tit-Ogler? What’s so wrong with liking girls with big breasts, huh!? Oh… OH! I get it!” Ray laughed walking over to Sunny Flare, his face mere inches away from hers. “You were jealous of Sour Sweet, weren’t you? Compared to her, you don’t have much to show! So yes, you insufferable jezebel, I am the Tit-Ogler, and I like it!” Ray laughed some more but it quickly died down into a mirthless chuckle. He stepped back until he sat on the single stair where his photo stood.
“This has to be a bad joke. So I die not knowing what killed me, alone, a virgin and now I’m unable to touch anything or interact with anyone,” Ray snarled. “With so many assholes in the world, I’m the one who dies while others get to live their lives without consequence!?” Ray’s anger faded almost instantly as a realization hit him. “Consequence… I’m already dead… I’m a ghost, a spirit now,” Ray stood up, eyes wide and smiling. “If I’m already dead, then I’m above consequence. It doesn’t matter what I do now. What could be worse than this?” Ray looked back at his photo and then at his right hand. He reached for the frame but ended up phasing through it. He groaned pulling back his hand, focused before reaching out again.
This time, he felt pressure against his ethereal hand. Ray smiled.
“I’m a ghost! I can do whatever the hell I want! As Sirius Black once said ‘What is life without a little risk?’. Or in my case, unlife!” Ray’s smile widened, baring his teeth and eyes devoid of light. Just then, Principal Celestia stepped down from the podium and everyone stood up, ready to leave. “If I was denied my chance to enjoy life, then I am going to have a rollercoaster’s worth of fun as a ghost!”
Ray remained vigilant and giddy as he observed every attendant walking out. He noticed Flash Sentry leave with some other guys and a grey-skinned girl with blonde hair latched to his arm. On the opposite side, the most popular girls of Canterlot High parted ways, with Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Sunset Shimmer leaving together. Meanwhile, Twilight Sparkle and her dog walked over to her big brother, Shining Armor, with Dean Cadance joining them a moment later.
With his mind made up on his next course of action, Ray began to walk. “After all, who is going to stop me?”

“Here are the snaaaaacks~” Pinkie sang while setting a tray of cookies, some juice, cupcakes, and other sweets on the table her two friends were sitting at. Fluttershy and Sunset Shimmer were quick to grab and devour a few treats.
“You make the best cookies ever, Pinkie,” Sunset complimented gulping down two more of them. Fluttershy only hummed enjoying a cupcake. “So, how exactly are we going to do this?”
Pinkie smiled pulling a box out of her hair and placing it on the table. “With this!”
Fluttershy and Sunset stared at the box for several silent seconds.
“Ooookay,” Sunset drawled out. “And you have a ouija board because?” Sunset Shimmer questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“It belonged to my Grandma Pie! She said to use it whenever I wished to talk to her or a dead friend!” Pinkie answered sheepishly.
“Eep!”
Sunset crossed her arms and grinned. “Look, I know this is going to sound filthy rich coming from someone that hails from a land of sunshine, rainbows, actual magic, and talking mythical creatures, but don’t you think that’s crossing the line of disbelief?”
“Ohohooooo silly! It’s like saying the fourth wall doesn’t exist!” Pinkie clapped her hands.
“...I am not even going to deign that with a counter,” Sunset sighed. “Okay, so you have a ouija board, now what? And why in God’s good name would you want to talk with that Raymond guy anyway? I don’t remember you being friends with him.”
Pinkie’s hair deflated a little, looking at the ouija board. “That’s why I want to talk to him. I never got a chance to be his friend. He looked so… gloomy and sad when I first saw him, but the Friendship Games were going on and I couldn’t do anything to cheer him up then.”
Sunset said nothing whilst Fluttershy put her half-eaten cupcake down, both of them sharing a saddened expression.
“The last time I saw him, I caught him looking at my cleavage. That apron really didn’t leave anything to the imagination, if you catch my drift~” Pinkie teased, her demeanor back to normal.
“Ha! So you weren’t the only one?” Sunset asked with a smirk. “Did you know the Shadowbolts nicknamed him the Tit-Ogler? I wonder why!” She said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
“Uhmm, I c-caught him, too. I think he was just too shy to talk to us. We were rivals at the time, after all.” Fluttershy added.
“Do you still want to try this out with someone who was a known pervert?” Sunset asked.
“I don’t care about that, Sunset. I only want him to know I would’ve loved to be his friend,” Pinkie said without hesitation as she set the board in place. “I can use the board alone, but it’s easier if there are more people playing. Will you two join me?”
Fluttershy nodded and smiled. “Of course, Pinkie. I have nothing to do for the rest of the day, and even then I would never turn down a friend that needs me.”
Sunset shrugged. “I’m down with doing this. Mostly because I’m curious to see if ouija boards actually work,” she turned her gaze to Pinkie. “Are there any rules we have to follow to, you know, not end up possessed or opening a gate to hell?” Sunset said, half-mocking.
“A few, actually. Demons are really nasty without restraints,” Pinkie answered casually, not noticing the blank stare Sunset was giving her. “Okay, there are three rules we must follow. One, all of us stay until the game ends. Two, all spirits manifest in one way or another, just let them answer however they want. And three, the game cannot end until the spirit wants to leave. Is that okay?” Pinkie explained, raising a finger at each condition.
“I think I can do that. Yes.” Fluttershy nodded.
“Fine with me,” Sunset replied.
“Aaaaaaalrighty! Let’s get this session started!” Pinkie Pie clapped her hands three times before opening the ouija board.
“Huh, it looks exactly as I expected,” Sunset said, unamused.
“Now, everyone, touch the pointer. Don’t press it down, just touch it gently,” Pinkie ordered and her girls obeyed. “Now then, we begin. Oh, Spirits who walk the umbral planes and exist beyond our limited reality; to those that know what is to come, I command thee to answer my call. In the name of Pinkamena Diane Pie and those of my family and present company, I beseech you to respond. Is Raymond Skystreak present in this room?” Pinkie chanted sounding more serious than any other occasion.
Silence.
Sunset looked around the room after a few seconds and smirked. “Damn, I was actually hoping this would wor--” Her words died in her mouth as the pointer moved to the printed ‘YES’ on the board. “Haha, Pinkie. Very funny,” Sunset said faintly.
“R-R-R-Ray… i-is that y-y-ou?” Fluttershy asked fearfully. The pointer moved back an inch or so before pointing at the printed ‘YES’ for a second time.
Pinkie smiled smugly at a now stunned Sunset before speaking. “Raymond, may we call you Ray from now on?” Again, the pointer repeated the process. “Good. Ray, did you have friends back at Crystal Prep?” The pointer zipped to the printed ‘NO’. “Were you sad and lonely because you didn’t have any friends?” The pointer zoomed to the ‘YES’. Pinkie teared up a little. “I-I’m sorry, Ray. I saw you during the Friendship Games sitting alone and sad… but I never approached you. I-It must’ve been so hard for you, and I was more focused on those stupid games!”
Pinkie sniffled while her friends anticipated a response from the board. The pointer remained still for several seconds until it slowly began to move around. The three girls could only stare, their eyes widening with each letter added to Ray’s response:
‘Do not feel bad, Pinkie. It was not your fault. I understand. If you want, we can be friends now.’
“Holy shit, this actually works…” Sunset muttered.
“R-Really?” Pinkie asked, smiling through her tears. The pointer zoomed to the ‘YES’. “Yay!” Pinkie cheered. “Do you want to keep talking?” ‘YES’ was the answer.
“Mind if I give it a try?” Sunset asked and Pinkie nodded. “H-hello there, Ray. Hey, shot in the dark here, but I’m curious, are there any other ghosts present?” ‘NO’.
“Spirit animals, maybe?” Fluttershy asked. ‘NO’.
“Have you seen other spirits or angels or demons?” Sunset asked. ‘Not yet. I’ll pass on meeting demons, though.’
“How does it feel to be a spirit, Ray?” Fluttershy questioned. ‘Strange.’
“Did you like looking at my boobs?” Pinkie asked.
“PINKIE!” Both Fluttershy and Sunset scolded her.

“I think I know w-what he wants,” Pinkie whimpered, a few tears forming in her eyes. “W-Who has the best chest between us?”
This time the pointer didn’t move, instead, the answer manifested itself by leaving Pinkie’s breasts and moving to Fluttershy.

“I know who you are,” Twilight said fearfully. “Raymond.”
Twilight felt a pair of lips press against hers, and she cried. Please, hurry back Shining! Spike!

“Enjoying the show?” A tall hooded figure asked.
“How could anyone enjoy this!?” A smaller hooded figure with a feminine voice replied using both hands to present the orb she was seeing. “Also, stop doing that! Ambushing an Agent is a crime!”
The tall figure shrugged. “A: I’m an Agent just like you, and B: I’m on your side,” he said before sitting on a free spot around the orb. “What’s your judgment on this one?”
“That... that psychotic brat is far too dangerous to keep alive! Look at what he did in less than a day!” The small figure said firmly.
“Again, you are letting your temper decide for you. The kid here has shown no latent potential for magical abuse. At least not to such a scale,” the tall figure explained.
“Are you serious right now!? Did you witness another timeline by mistake? That little devil not only figured out how to master his powers in no time, he took a swan dive off a slippery slope of corruption that takes other people years to achieve!”
“Which is a very good reason to avoid jumping into rushed conclusions, little one. This child is from another possibility. We already saw what he’d do in his original timeline.”
“Oh, like that’s so much better? Please, explain to me how it is any better!”
“He showed restraint and conviction to know what he did in his dream was wrong. No truly evil entity would ever feel empathy or concern for their crimes, real or imagined. This timeline,” he said pointing at the sphere. “Was a result of a fall to despair that could have easily been prevented.”
The small figure sighed trying to fight off her mounting stress. “That Raymond guy is still pretty damn sketchy, though.”
“Name a teenager who isn’t. Their minds are already a mishmash of hormones, fantasies, stress, and curiosity ready to pop like an overly inflated fart bubble. Mixing in a dash of trauma, like, say, attending their own funeral, may be a bit too much for their delicate psyches to handle, don’t you think?”
“I guess you are right. But did you seriously just construct an allegory using the words ‘fart bubble’?”
“It was supposed to be a joke, to break the ice.”
“First, that was an awful joke. Second, do not mention ice or anything cold around me for at least a few days,” the small figure shivered. “Your perspective makes sense, though. So what should we do? Make sure he stays alive and well?”
“Of course! Now we are in agreement. Not every problem can be solved by shouting ‘maim, purge, kill!’. Sometimes it takes a careful, delicate approach to avert them altogether. Remember, little one, there is a fine line separating IDP Agents from simple assassins.”
The small figure sighed again. “It would be too easy otherwise, wouldn’t it? So, do we file a report now?”
“Later. Let’s grab lunch first,” the taller figure snapped his fingers, reducing the sphere they were inspecting to ashes.
“That’s why I joined the Inter-Dimensional Police! For the sandwiches!” The smaller figure exclaimed, both sharing a laugh shortly after.
