Smart Cookie
It's another day weeks after the summer break. The sun illuminates the sky and earth with its warm and bright light as it slowly rises from the east horizon, warming the environment that's preparing for autumn, and the room of a young pink unicorn named Smart Cookie, sleeping soundly as the rays shine through the window.
As the birds are chirping, Cookie wakes up from her sleep. It's already the third week of school. Tired already? Maybe. Feeling to keep going? Absolutely. She's an intelligent young unicorn and focused on her dream. No wonder why she has the word "smart" as her first name.
Back to her life, Cookie washes her face in the bathroom before going out and brushes her brown mane. After done preparing herself for the day, Cookie eats her breakfast, take her backpack, and leaves her house shortly after.
At school, Cookie does everything as usual. Helping her friends, solving formulas, basically what students do when they have free time in class. In the art class, Miss Leaf enters the class.
"Good afternoon, colorful students." Miss Leaf greets the students.
"Good afternoon, Miss Leaf." The students greet the brown leaf-colored pegasus back at once.
"Alright, students. Right now I have an important business right now and I need to hurry up."
The classroom is suddenly filled with the loud cheers of the students that think they're not going to have an art class.
"However, I'm going to give you homework."
The students' faces quickly make a frown after hearing what Miss Leaf said. Miss Leaf then writes the task on the whiteboard using her wing.
"Draw a panorama
It can be anything, on any media
Finish it before October 11th"
"Alright, students. This is your homework. Now, please excuse me now. Happy making art! Oh! Also, may your autumn be filled with colors and sweets."
After wishing the students a happy (upcoming) autumn, she leaves the school in a hurry.
"Anything?" Cookie thoughts to herself, feeling very excited. "I'm going to draw the best and most beautiful drawing in the class!"
At home, Cookie spends minutes thinking about the panorama she's going to draw. Then, the phone on the table rings a notification tone. Cookie proceeds to check it and remember that she and the girls are planning to watch a movie on October 4th, Friday to be exact.
"What kind of movie are we gonna watch?"
"Hold on…. Sprout. It's a movie about saving the environment and stuff. Y'know, your thing. You're gonna love it, I promise."
"Alright, I'm going to check it."
After that sent, Cookie searches the movie Sprout on the internet. After reading some articles and the preview about the movie, she becomes a bit more interested in watching the movie.
"Alright, I'm in. But please pay me the popcorn and drink this time."
"Fine fine, whatever you want. OK bye!"
Finished with the movie conversation, Cookie thinks back about what panorama to draw. As the young pink unicorn is thinking, Cookie's mother, Vanilla Chips, tells her that lunch is ready. Thinking that she can work on the homework later, Cookie eats lunch together with her parents.
After finishing the lunch, Cookie returns to the porch and inhales the fresh air as the breeze flows her mane like she's in an open field. Sitting on the chair, she stares at whatever things that are on her sight; ponies riding a bicycle, foals playing wind-powered toys, and a bright pink unicorn watering her front yard garden.
As Cookie keeps staring, something finally enters her mind. She trots to her room and takes out her rainbow-colored markers. Then, Cookie starts to draw the panorama.
Even though she doesn't have that much drawing skill, Cookie already has a great start. She sits, picturing, testing colors, lining, and coloring on the paper like an experienced artist. When the clock shows the time is 4 PM Cookie decides to take a break. Lying on her bed, she scrolls her phone screen through the internet, looking at posts about saving the environment. One of them is an event held at a dirty beach on October 12th with the goal of cleaning the beach as clean as possible from the shore to the water. It's just right after the day the panorama task is expected to be finished.
As days are moving on, Cookie always takes her time to continue drawing the panorama. Not only that, but she also records the process of the drawing that she planned to upload into the internet after finished. A few days later, at the mall, Cookie and her friends are in the cinema purchasing tickets for the movie Sprout. As Cookie is waiting for her friends to get the tickets, she spots a friend of hers, a white pegasus with blue mane and tail, standing behind two ponies in the line she's currently in, waiting for his turn to buy a ticket. With curious feeling, Cookie goes to meet him.
"Hiro?"
The white pegasus heard his name called and turns head to the right to see the young pink unicorn standing beside him.
"Smart Cookie? Hi. What are you doing here?"
"I was about to ask the same exact question to you."
"Well...I guess I'll answer first. Gonna watch a movie about the oceans."
"That sounds interesting." Cookie's expression changed from curious to interested. "Heh, I wish I picked that movie. Hehe." Cookie turns around before saying the last few words to Hiro. "This one should be good anyway. See ya!" Cookie waves at Hiro.
"See ya too." Hiro waves back at Cookie as the young pink unicorn returns to her friends who already got the tickets and are waiting for her.
"Who were you talking to?" One of her friends asks.
"H2O2." Cookie replies with a grin.
Instantly, all of her friends are confused as to what Cookie just said.
"Were you talking to a bleach? Wh...how?!"
Cookie can only chuckle to her friends' confused reaction.
"Come on, girls. We got a movie to watch."
"Alright. Let's go!" All of them reply to Cookie at once.
For about 90 minutes, the girls are watching the movie, Sprout. A 2D animation movie about a group of teenage ponies planning to plant trees as many as possible in barren land that is now filled with nothing but tree stumps as far as the eyes can see. From the beginning to the process, those teenage ponies are faced with many difficulties, including a greedy company that keeps destroying forests for whatever their business is.
After watching the movies, Cookie and the girls exit the cinema with mixed emotions, grateful, and devastated are one of those emotions the girls are feeling.
"So, how was the movie, Cookie?" Her friend walking beside her asks.
"Pretty good. Didn't expect it to be that dramatic, though."
"I know right. I thought it's gonna be a simple movie about saving the environment."
"Yeah."
After that, Cookie and the girls exit the mall and take a taxi to stop by a restaurant and return to each other's home by walking.
At home, Cookie quickly heads to the couch and rests herself, relieving the fatigue she had before. Later, she thinks that she shouldn't continue her panorama homework as she's still tired and wanting to take time for herself and spend quality time with her family. After all the fun she had with her family she goes to her bedroom and call it a day.
Tomorrow morning, after taking a morning exercise Cookie eats her breakfast and continues drawing her panorama, this time she does it in the backyard, enjoying the calmness and the gentle breeze.
After hours of drawing, Cookie finally finished her drawing. She feels relieved as the homework that has been weighing on her shoulder is now lifted. Cookie then immediately rests in her bedroom, watching online videos and scrolling through social media, and also chatting with her friends.
Days have passed, it's finally time to give the homework to the teacher, Miss Leaf. The art class has begun, after Miss Leaf enters and the students have greeted her, the excited-looking teacher asks the student to put their drawing on her desk and wait until she has given scores to each of the drawings.
Meanwhile, Cookie feels confident in her drawing as she has put a lot of effort and dedication into it. After looking into each of the drawings and give them scores, Miss Leaf stands beside her desk before taking the papers from the desk one by one. She judges and compliments them, which always makes the student that drew it feels recognized and good, sometimes relieved due to their belief that the drawing they've made is bad.
After waiting for minutes, Miss Leaf takes Cookie's paper.
"Smart Cookie, I'm very impressed with your drawing. Even though you drew it using markers but the aesthetic feeling and the beauty are still there." Miss Leaf says as she shows a drawing of a wide river flowing down a bright green plain and a thick forest into the sea with a blue-looking mountain that pierces the clouds in the background, drawn in a unique style, to the students
The students are amazed by Cookie's drawing, it's like looking at a cave with sparkling gems. It is definitely one of the best drawings in the class and Miss Leaf loves it, along with the other two.
Cookie feels pleased and grateful knowing that her drawing made it to Miss Leaf's top three drawings. After class, Cookie is flooded by her friends' compliments and admiration which makes Cookie feels ever more pleased.
At home, in her bedroom, Cookie takes a rest and decides to not do anything. Then, she calls it a day.
Tomorrow morning, she prepares to participate in cleaning the beach. There, everypony's attention is focused on Cookie as she's one of the youngest audience in the event.
After long hours, the event went successful and the beach has been cleaned from the shore to the bottom of the water. Both the hosts and everypony who participated feel glad and grateful as they have completed something incredible, a start of a clean earth.
When Cookie gets home, she's welcomed by a warm hug from her parents. They are very happy with what their daughter has done. Cookie also thanks her parents for all of their support and care they've given to her this whole time.
Now everything is finished, Cookie and her parents spend another quality time together. And, of course, Vanilla Chips made herbal teas for the small family to enjoy. At the same time, Cookie is currently uploading the speedpaint video of the drawing she has made.
