Work Horse Gone Fancy
Hard Work and Upsetting News
Load Full StoryThe sun was beating down on my light orange coat. My back legs grew tired, but the harvest wasn't yet complete so Big Mac and me kept on working. Finally Apple Bloom and Granny Smith came out with some ice cold water and some hay. Big Mac sat down as silent as ever and I followed, telling both Granny Smith and Apple Bloom thanks.
"Guess what?" Apple Bloom yelled excitedly.
"What is it, sugar cube?" I responded.
"Braeburn and a friend of his are coming to help with the harvest this year! Isn't that exciting!" She yelled, her eyes wide.
"That's very exciting. We haven't seen Braeburn since that trip to Appaloosa. And it will be great to have some extra hooves helping out with the harvest this year." I miss my cousin. He is so amazing, and funny. And an amazing worker. I hope his friend is a great worker to. We need all the help we can get.
Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle came running, and soon Apple Bloom was off running to them. The three of them would probably head off to their newly fixed-up clubhouse.
Granny Smith got up and went back inside, mumbling about the damn heat. That left Big Mac and myself alone. I assumed we were going to go back to work, but as I stood up Big Mac told me otherwise.
"Listen, I need to talk to you. "
"What about?" I asked him confused.
"Braeburn's friend. Little cousin Braeburn is coming not to just help out with the harvest. He would have been here already. And he most likely would not be bringing a friend."
"Where are you getting at?"
"You need to settle down, Aj. You are a big girl now and you need to get married."
"Why? I don't want to. I have work to do." I stated calmly, " And what if I don't like this guy! I won't marry him" I started to shout at this point.
Everything else blurred out. I could barely see because of my tears. I decided to run. And run I did. I ran until I reached the tree Dash usually takes her afternoon nap in. Sure enough, the light blue Pegasus was right there.
"Dash!" I cried. She woke up fast, realized I was in distress and flew down to see me.
"What happened?" Her crimson eyes were filled with worry.
I tried to calm down as I explained to her everything. She sat there and listened the whole time.
"That's not right. But I am sure you'll like him."
I started to fidget, embarrassed to tell Rainbow the truth. I took a deep breath.
"What if he doesn't like me? Stallions never really look at me. I'm nothing special. Just another work horse."
"You are kidding, Right? What about you would he not like. You are absolutely amazing. It's an honor to have you as my friend. I know you will always have my back. Any stallion who gets to keep you is really lucky."
"Thanks, Rainbow Dash."
