Every Journey Begins With A Single Step
Seeing The Town Pt.4
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAs Spike drove the car, he and Rainbow were soon surrounded by hundreds of apple trees, Spike looked around at the large expanse of trees. 'Wow, this reminds me of the time mom bought a vineyard, I wonder how that place is doing?' Thought Spike. So Rainbow, how much further?" Asked Spike.
Rainbow hummed. "Oh, we passed the gate like 3 minutes ago, but we should be hitting the house any moment now."
Spike looked around and noticed a large red barn and a rustic green house in a clearing. "I see it, we're heading down."
"Warning, obstacles detected, suggesting the use of VTOL protocol." Said Flurry.
Spike gulped. "Really, but VTOL is experimental."
"Spike, maybe in your reality, but not in ours, the first test of the F1U66Y clearly showed that the VTOL protocol was fully functional." Said Sheela.
Spike sighed as he really wasn't sure about this part when he developed his F1U66Y last year. But you only live once. Spike pulled on the windshield wipers stick to activate the VTOL protocol. Since the car didn't have a roof, flying it in the rain was kinda pointless, meaning that windshield wipers were in the same category, along with the fluid, and motors, and the stick in general, so all of it was reassigned for the VTOL.
"VTOL activated, searching for safe landing sight...Location detected, assuming control to ensure landing." Said Flurry. Spike let go of the wheel and watched as Flurry took control. Flurry turned the car and flew them to the safest landing location, right in front of the house. "Landing complete, time to recharge is 15 minutes, system now entering standby." Said Flurry.
Spike sighed. "Ok, I was having the same problem, but it barely got off the ground without Flurry, so I guess it's a win." It was true, the car without Flurry was much harder to fly because of the calculations. Even with Spike's skills, he almost crashed a few times. But VTOL was too complicated for Spike to deal with, meaning that Flurry oversaw it and it drew so much power it drained the cars battery.
Spike smiled at the car. "You did great Flurry." Said Spike as he got out of the car.
"WARNING, FIRE ARM DETECTED." Said Sheela.
Spike was confused but then he felt something on his back. "You have 3 seconds to get off my property and let Rainbow out of that contraption." Said an older voice.
"Threat detected, activating Omega file." Said Sheela, her voice then changed. "Drop the gun, this is your only warning, inaction will be met with deadly force."
"Do I get a say in this?" Asked Spike.
"GRANNY?!" Yelled AJ as she ran over to her grandmother and took the family shotgun away from her. "What in Sam Hill are you doing with Daisy?" Yelled AJ.
Spike looked to the side. "AJ, can I relax now?" Asked Spike.
AJ sighed. "Yes, I'm so sorry about Granny, Spike, she's a little untrusting of weird machines, especially after those scoundrels Flim and Flam tried to take our farm."
Spike looked at AJ. "Oh, yeah, I don't like them either, those bastards tried to ruin Canterlot Corp by undercutting our reputation and cost of production by investing heavily in our competitors and selling the company cheap and shitty equipment."
AJ nodded. "Yeah, those 2 are as slippery as a greased pig, with smiled that could charm a crock."
Spike nodded. "Yeah, but mom got them back, by buying the company they invested in, and found out that they were conducting corporate sabotage, and they were arrested."
AJ smiled at hearing that somewhere those 2 got what they deserved. "Well, they got what's coming to them, but let’s not get bogged down with them, what brings you to the farm Spike?"
Spike smiled. "Well, I thought I would see the town, see what makes this world work, hopefully not get shot by a mare. So far, I got 2 of those done." Said Spike trying to play off the fact that he was close to dying.
AJ sighed. "Yeah, sorry about that." AJ looked at Granny Smith. "Granny, say you're sorry for pointing Daisy at Spike."
Granny sighed. "I'll admit I was a little presumptuous about... Sorry, I've been around a while, but I don't rightly know who or what you are."
Spike nodded as he stuck out his hand. "Spike Solaris, and I'm a human from another reality."
Granny smiled and took the hand. "Well, howdy Spike, my name is Granny Smith, it’s a pleasure to meet you, and sorry about Daisy."
Spike shrugged. "Not the first time I've had a gun pointed at me, and knowing my luck, it won't be the last." This wasn't a lie, when Spike was 18, he was mugged at gunpoint, but Celestia was still his mother, and he got her tendency to do stupid stuff. The poor guy had to go to the hospital to get the bullets out of his stomach, and it's not what you think, Spike made him swallow the bullets.
Granny nodded. "Well, Spike, may I ask, what is this contraption?" Asked Granny as she walked over to the car.
AJ nodded. "Yeah, it doesn't look like one of Twilight's doohickeys."
Spike nodded. "Well, in my reality and a few others, I designed a vehicle that allows for travel using the planets gravitational power to generate lift."
AJ and Granny looked at Spike confused. "Spike, can you say that again, I don't think I got all of that." Asked AJ.
Spike nodded. "This uses the planet to generate lift and allows for a driver to fly in the air without the need for a road."
AJ nodded, that was simple enough for her to grasp, but Granny was still confused. "One more time sonny?" Asked Granny.
Spike sighed. "I built it to fly in the sky instead of using the ground."
Granny glared at Spike. "Hey, I maybe old, but I'm not a foal, so don't treat me like one."
Spike gulped. "Master, I have made a little animation to help show the concept." Said Sheela.
Spike sighed. "Show it."
"Playing now. Madam Smith, the world we all live on is composed of a solid metal core that usually consists of iron, as the planet spins the core generates invisible lines of magnetic forces that act similar to a magnet, the force travels from north to south through the ground and the air. Master Spike devised a concept of using this force as a source of energy, and soon he created a prototype magnetic generator. But he didn't stop there, he also created a magnetic pulse emitter, that used the same basic principles of magnetism." Said Sheela, she then pulled up a memory of the first few tests of the prototype emitters. "Here are a few failed designs."
Spike was standing in a lab, a hunk of metal on a table connected to a large generator. "Ok, MPE test prototype 1, let’s hope I don't die." Said Spike as he ran behind a blast screen. He placed his hand on a dial. "Ok, starting at 10%." Said Spike as he turned the dial. The hunk of metal buzzed to life and then exploded 2 seconds later.
Spike was back in the lab, and the hunk of metal was a little more complicated. "Ok, MPE test prototype number 18, test 17 produced great results, achieving lift off the table, but power supply was insufficient so from now on I will be hooking it up to my EMG." Spike walked behind a blast screen and turned the dial. "50% power." The device buzzed and started hovering, but then it started smoking and sputtering. But then it went into over drive and started flying around the lab like crazy.
Spike looked like he hadn't slept in a month and he was standing in front of a refined looking device. He yawned. "Test, 57, I think I'm close, test 56 saw that I was right to add more limiters on the converters, this is great because the semester is coming to an end in 5 weeks, and I'm running out of time." Spike yawned as he walked behind the screen. "Starting at 10% to warm up, then going to 50% to achieve lift." Spike turned the dial, and the device hummed. "Ok, no explosion yet." Spike then turned the dial more. "Reaching 50% power." The device hummed louder and started to float above the table. "Readings are stable, no power surge, upping power to 75%." Spike turned the dial and the machine floated higher on the table and didn't fly into anything; it just went up. Spike looked at the device. "Holy shit, it's working, IT'S WORKING!" Cheered Spike as he just created hover tech. "This is Spike Solaris, date: May 15th, 2020. To all my family, thank you for believing in me. To the asshole professor that said this was impossible, FUCK YOU NEIGHSAY!"
"So, after this, Spike devised a system to modify the device to work on a car, and here we are." Said Sheela.
Granny Smith looked at Spike. "So, you're smart?" Asked the old mare.
Spike shrugged. "Eh, smarts relative, I'm just gifted in math and engineering." Said Spike.
Rainbow chimed in. "Dude broke Twilight for a moment, AJ."
AJ looked at Spike and whistled. "Wow, and Twilights the smartest pony I know."
Spike shrugged. "Again, eh." Said Spike.
Granny hummed. "Well, if you would like to stay, you've got my ok, but I need to head to town and pick up some food for dinner. AJ, make sure Bloom gets her chores done."
AJ nodded. "Yes Ma'am, see you in a little while Granny." Said AJ as she watched Granny walk down the dirt road down to town.
Spike smiled. "She seems nice." Said Spike.
AJ sighed. "She pointed a shotgun at you, and she knows how to use it, most ponies would freak out and call her insane."
Spike shrugged. "She still seemed nice. So, AJ, how are you today?" Asked Spike.
AJ smiled. "Well, aside from all of this, pretty well, just got finished with today’s quota, so I was just going to start feeding the animals with Winona."
Spike gasped. "Winnie, come here girl." Said Spike happily, soon a Border Collie ran out of the house and looked at who was calling her. She saw her owner, one of her friends and a tall creature she had never seen, but something was telling her he was nice, so she ran over to Spike and started yipping. Spike smiled at the dog. "Oh, look at you, you're so adorable, who's a happy little girl, you are, that's who." Said Spike as he gave all his love to the little dog.
AJ and Rainbow looked at Spike, both were confused. "Um... Ok, this is weird." Said AJ, Rainbow nodded in agreement.
Spike looked at AJ. "How so, she's a great little dog, and she's always been well behaved." Said Spike as he scratched the dog’s ear.
AJ looked at Winona. "Come here girl." Said AJ. Winona yipped and got to her owners’ hooves, and once she was happy with her location she sat down. AJ looked at Spike. "Spike, I've trained Winona as a guard dog, and a farm hand, she knows not to just go up to strangers and act all friendly, so what gives?"
Spike shrugged. "Well, I kinda know Winona already, seeing as you always brought her to training." Spike looked at AJ, she was even more confused. Spike facepalmed. "Right, only told Rainbow, Pinkie, and Rarity. AJ, as weird as it sounds, I've actually known you for around 5 years now."
AJ nodded. "You're right, that does sound weird."
Rainbow nodded. "It gets weirder. Sheela can you pull up AJ's file, like you did mine?"
"Access denied, I require a member of Canterlot Corp's permission to comply." Said Sheela.
Spike nodded. "Sheela, pull up AJ's file." Said Spike.
"Affirmative. Full name: Abigale Jackeline Daniels, occupation: personal trainer to the Solaris family. For more information please read file." Said Sheela as AJ's full file pulled up on the screen.
Spike looked at the file. "Yep. Yep. Yep. Really? Who knew? Yep and please delete that last part." Said Spike blushing.
"Whew, hold up, what are you asking her to delete?" Asked AJ, she was suspicious of what could be so bad that not even she can see it.
Spike gulped as he covered the file. "Oh, nothing really, just a stupid mistake that got added."
AJ glared at Spike, but she nodded. But it wasn't to Spike, but to Rainbow, she nodded back and got behind Spike. Rainbow put Spike's arm into a hold and gave AJ a chance to see what he was hiding. But when AJ saw what was written she blushed hard. "Oh."
Spike nodded. "Yeah, they saw it on the gym security camera, I told mom not to fire you, and it was my idea."
AJ looked at Spike. "But, why would I?"
Spike shrugged as best as he could. "Couldn't tell you, mainly because you never told me. I always thought you and Riley were a thing."
Rainbow looked at Spike, then she looked at AJ. "What did it say?"
AJ blushed. "Um... Spike, you want to tell her?"
Spike gulped. "Um... Not really, it's you're file."
Sheela sighed. "Screw it, Ms. Dash, Spike and his AJ had a triss in the company spa one day during his vacation."
Rainbow blushed as she looked at AJ and Spike. "Ok, I was expecting something less personal." Said Rainbow as she let go of Spike. "So, this just got really awkward." Spike and AJ nodded.
Spike looked at AJ. "So, how about we go feed those animals?" Asked Spike as he tried to get this train off this track.
AJ nodded. "Yep, besides, that was her, not me."
"Yep." Said Spike as he followed AJ to deal with the animals, leaving Rainbow and Winona.
Rainbow sighed as she looked at the little dog. "Hey girl, follow them while I take a nap." Said Rainbow. Winona barked and followed her owner and Spike.
Flurry yawned as her system got enough power to wake up. "Good morning, what did I miss?"
Rainbow shrugged. "Nothing really, Spike got a shotgun pointed at his back, then Sheela pulled up AJ's file, and then things got weird and now AJ and Spike are off to feed the animals." Said Rainbow as she yawned.
Flurry hummed. "Oh, can I see them, Nova promised me he would build me a body and take me to the zoo for the first time."
Rainbow sighed. "Sure, but how can I get you to Spike?" Asked Rainbow.
Flurry didn't respond, but then there was a banging in the trunk of the car, which confused Rainbow. "Flurry, where are you?"
"In here, can you let me out?" Asked Flurry. "I forgot that this doesn't have a release."
Rainbow gulped as she got to the back of the car and with much caution, carefully opened the trunk. "Flurry?" Asked Rainbow.
Soon a pair of low tech opal pixel eyes blinked to life, and a little hand grabbed the edge of the trunk. Rainbow looked at the little hand, she was scared. "Flurry help, there's something coming out of the back."
The eyes looked at Rainbow. "Hey, can you help me, Nova never finished my body, and my joints are a little rusted?" Said Flurry as she really couldn't move faster.
Rainbow looked at the little frame. "Wait, you're in that thing?" Asked Rainbow.
Flurry nodded, but just doing that was difficult with all the rust. "Yes, Nova built me this frame so I could explore the world with my family. But he never got around to finishing it, so he decided to try again with a new unit."
Rainbow helped the little robot girl out of the trunk, the shock that there was a body in the trunk passing quickly. Rainbow placed Flurry on the ground, letting Rainbow have a great view of the little girl’s frame. She looked to be the size of a 8 year old filly, but she looked like a human, just minus a mouth, ears, nose, skin, hair, and really anything aside from her eyes, but there was one thing that stuck out, literally as there was a long cable coming out of her back that was attached to the power generator. Flurry looked at Rainbow. "Ms. Rainbow, can you help me get to father, and maybe find me some oil, my joints are stiff."
Rainbow nodded. "Um...Sure, let’s go." Said Rainbow as she took the little girl’s hand and the 2 headed to the barn to find Spike.
In the barn Spike and AJ were getting the animal feed ready, but they were trying hard to avoid the topic at hand. "So, you do this every day?" Asked Spike.
"Yep." Said AJ. "So, I work for your mother in your reality?"
"Yep." Said Spike. "Have been since I was around 13, and my mom got really into working out, and dragged me, my dad, my aunt and cousin into the gym at least 4 times a week."
AJ sighed as she looked at Spike. "Spike, about what I did in your reality."
Spike sighed. "Like I said, I have no idea why you did it, but let’s just forget about it, I never wanted it to ruin your career, that's why I took the blame, you're one of my friends AJ, and I did care about you."
AJ blushed as she kept working. "Thanks Spike, that actually means a lot to me."
Spike nodded. "Hey, I just want to know 2 things though, first back there you had D's, do you have them here too?" Asked Spike.
AJ blushed, but she nodded. "Yes, but can we not talk about that?"
Spike nodded. "Yeah, sorry, second is about what I said earlier, I always thought you and Riley were a thing, is there something going on between you and this Rainbow?" Asked Spike.
AJ blushed. "Well, kinda hard not to get those rumors in a world like ours. I'm sure one of the girls have told you about herds by now."
Spike nodded. "Yeah."
AJ nodded. "Well, sometimes Stallions aren't the greatest, and they think they are..." AJ took a deep breath. "Look, long story short, yes but we do like stallions."
Spike nodded. "Ok, I've always wondered it since I saw how close you 2 were." Said Spike as he lifted an 80 pound bag of chicken feed, but to him it only felt like 18 pounds. "So, can we just start over and forget about that?"
AJ smiled and nodded. "Sure, it's nice to meet you Spike, the names Applejack."
Spike smiled. "The same, and just because we're starting over, you're granny is crazy."
AJ chuckled at the little joke. "Oh, trust me, living in this town will make anypony crazy."
Spike chuckled. "I believe you, now let’s get to work."
AJ nodded, but before they could leave, Rainbow walked into the barn with Flurry. "Hey AJ, Spike, can we get some oil for Flurry?" Asked Rainbow.
Spike looked at the little robot next to Rainbow. "Flurry?" Asked Spike, he was pretty sure that he hadn't built Flurry a body when he developed the car.
Flurry nodded, and again it was hard. "Yes, Nova started building me this body before he dropped me off and pulled my system, he said he would finish one for me and then install me inside of it, but Father, can you oil my joints?"
Spike smiled at the little AI. "Sure, but let’s see if AJ has any first."
AJ was confused, but she was sure they had some oil in the barn for the plow. "Yeah, we should have some for you, just give me a second." Said AJ as she started looking for the oil.
Spike walked over to Flurry and started looking at her body, it was more advanced than robots from his time, but not by much. Spike picked her up, and she was lighter than robots in his time. "Flurry, can you open your shell?" Asked Spike.
Flurry nodded as her chest plate popped open, exposing her system to Spike. Spike looked at her insides. "Pneumatic actuators, high density carbon fiber frame, the wiring is a little messy, but fixable, definitely not from my time, but not out of the realm of possibility for in development tech." Spike looked at Flurry's face plate and eyes. "Flurry open your head for me please?"
Flurry popped open her face plate and Spike looked at the simple design of the head. "Ok, he didn't do a half bad job in here, but there is room for improvement, you're system is still in the car, but you have the ability to transmit through the power cable that powers you, I'm guessing that he was going to find a way to transfer you to a body permanently, and depending on if he was going to develop a miniature version of the MEG, I think we could fully make you independent of the car." Spike then looked at the eye visor. "But this is so low tech, what was Nova thinking, why not give you a screen?" Asked Spike.
AJ walked back with an oil can in her hands and handed it to Spike. "Spike, here's the oil." Said AJ.
Spike smiled. "Thanks AJ." Said Spike as he grabbed the oil can, and closed Flurry's face plate. "Flurry, open all panels and transfer to car until all panels are closed." Said Spike.
Flurry nodded as her eye screen went black and her body went limp, but she did pop open all her panels. AJ was confused. "Spike, why did you ask her to transfer back?"
Spike pointed to all the wires and delicate electrical components. "One wrong drop and she could lose a leg or arm, and if she's inside, she's going to be moving around. This way, there's less risk, and it's less creepy. Being hands deep into a little girl’s body and oiling her joints. This way, it's only a guy oiling a lifeless hunk of metal."
AJ nodded. "Yeah, that does sound weird."
Spike nodded as he started working from her feet up.
After 20 minutes Spike was done oiling Flurry's joints, and once her neck was oiled, Spike closed the last of the panels. Soon Flurry transferred back into her body. She started moving her hands and feet, then her arms and knees, lastly, she got to her feet and started walking around. "Finally, those joints were a pain, and If I ever see Nova again, I'm going to give him a piece of my motherboard about forgetting to do a coating so I wouldn't rust."
Spike smiled at seeing Flurry walking around. "Well, just remember to not kill your brother, he did build you a body."
Flurry huffed. "I know, but Zester wouldn't have forgotten, but no, he's too busy with the farm to spend time building me a body."
Spike looked at Flurry, he was confused on who Zester was. "Flurry, who's Zester?"
Flurry looked at Spike and she looked sheepish. "Right, I keep forgetting that you're not my father. Zester is my second brother."
Spike looked at Flurry. "Wait, where did Zester come from?" Asked Spike.
"Well, my Ma, Abigale of course, you're second wife." Said Flurry like it was simple.
Spike was really confused now. "Flurry, how many wives did your Spike have?"
"8, my mother and your first wife, Twilight Vivian Sparkle, your second wife Abigale, third was Diane, next was Riley, then came Silver Belle, Felicia came next, after her it was Sally Flutters, and lastly was Sophie Glimmer." Said Flurry.
Spike looked pale as he grabbed Flurry's shoulder. "Sweetie, how many kids do I have not counting you?"
"13, Nova is the oldest, then Zester, Comet, Prism, Emerald, Peach, Angel, Skyler, Wilhelm Jr, Jonnie, Daisy, Wallace, and the youngest of my family is baby Jacky."
Spike gulped as he let go of the little girl and walked over to a pile of hay. "Sheela, if I'm not awake in the next 5 hours please keep Flurry safe, I need to lay down."
Sheela nodded. "Of course, and if it helps, all of them are really famous people in my time, that helped humans colonize the moon and Mars."
Spike nodded. "Yeah, it does." Said Spike as he passed out from finding out that he had 8 wives and 13 kids.
Sheela looked to the girls. "Why don't you go on ahead, I'll keep watch over him."
Author's Note
Yeah, Spike is a three legged lemon tree with 8 wives and 13 kids that don't even exist in his or the pony reality, he's a genius, with a group of robotic AI's and a little daughter that is a copy of his soon to be human niece that hasn't even been born yet in his reality but has been in Equestria. Next we'll find out that Spike is his own grandpa, but not really, just a joke. But I'm going to propose this question, is what makes Spike's original reality, and the one where Flurry and Sheela are from, yet to hit the divergence point, or did they both have the same change in the past, and it was just a guy buying a pack of gum or not that decided when the reality was split?
