Prologue
The world was a simple place for boys. Do as your told and the females won't punish you. Be respectful and obedient and you would live a cushy life as a female's pet. Pampered and spoiled well the women work and stress about money.
Males were rare and as such, cherished. Only one in six eggs were male. Males were also so tiny, barely 4 feet tall on average (meaning they were often shorter with the occasional male breaking 5 feet). Where females were at least 7 feet tall themselves, reaching 8 feet more often then not.
Still, to the Anthros, males were largely unnecessary. The various Anthro Species were Asexual, laying eggs once every 50 years after their first litter at 30. Males were considered a genetic defect, as they couldn't reproduce this way, and while it used to be that they were killed at birth, the Anthros came to understand they needed compassion and looking after.
It was discovered that, if a female was in their reproductive cycle, male sperm was surprisingly helpful. Those eggs, when frequently exposed, would grow into healthier, smarter, and stronger hatchlings. They would even have greater magical reserves.
It didn't really matter what the species of the male was, as that had no effect on the eggs. Nor did the offspring have their father's DNA, like with most species. Anthro sperm acted more like a plant fertilizer, then what it was for other species. Needing frequent exposure, to act as extra nutrition for the eggs, before they were laid. The "Sperm" couldn't even be used to get someone pregnant, only help an already pregnant Anthro.
Out of all Anthro races, only the "dragons" had boys as the dominant gender... and those creatures were technically omni sexual (able to both lay eggs and fertilize them). They were also the most aggressive of all the species because they felt they had something to prove for having... male reproductive organs.
Anthros had longevity, meaning they couldn't die of old age. If anything their bodies became stronger and more durable as they aged. However, this does not mean Anthros are immortal... well not technically.
They can be killed by sickness or injury, but that death wasn't permanent.
When Anthros die, their magic gathers together and becomes a "Wisp" (basically a force ghost). They are balls of conscious energy that can take a transparent form, of their old self, to talk to people.
Well in Wisp form they have great power but can't talk. Wisp can possess corpses to better interact with the world. They can also reincarnate themselves as a new offspring, outside an Anthro's typical birthing cycle.
At which point the Anthro will only lay one egg, and the child will be born as their former species. With no relation to their new parents. Even having the same coloring as they did before.
They will be born with only a vague awareness of their past life. Recalling key moments, but as they age they will remember more and more of the details. Which will fully unlock when they turn 30.
There is a debate amongst scholars, about what matters more: Nature, Nurture, or Past Life.
Anthros considered it an honor for a Wisp to choose to be their child. As it is typically a sign of great trust. However, The Wisp is expected to ask permission first... which is mostly just a formality.
Wisp reincarnation may be rare, but it's heavily revered in Anthro society. To the point the age of adulthood is 30, to reflect when Re-born Wisp fully assimilate their past memories.
Anthros, even former wisp, start earning "Privileges" at 15, and slowly gain more and more legal privileges until they become rights at 30. This way children weren't forced to adjust too quickly to new responsibilities, and their parents could teach them how to adjust to these privileges.
Anthros, as with all magical creatures, have a more effective digestive system. They can absorb all nutrients from anything they eat. What they can't directly absorb is disintegrated in their magical core, before being distributed throughout their bodies as ash that feeds the magical pathways. They don't need to, and actually can't, poop.
They have an intestinal wall connected to the anus that isn't connected to anything else in the body. It is used purely for sex in both males and females. With sensitive nerve clusters throughout it.
Anthros had been genetically engineered tens of thousands of years ago. Just one of many experiments from a long dead civilization, for no other purpose then they could.
The Anthros were made, there was no denying it. Based on a single individual that, thanks to Anthros Asexual nature, were able to spawn all other races from them. While it is more common to lay eggs of their own race, this allowed for any race to occasionally be born from any Anthro species. Which the wisp were more then happy to take advantage of, as they were always born with the same body and the same species, even as the same gender.
Who was this original Anthro that spawned the now 200 billion various civilizations of their race? It was none other then Discord himself. Anthros had once rejected The sole Draconequus, for fear of his Cosmic powers, but later accepted him as they grew more compassionate.
Since they entered the space age, each Anthro race had Terraformed and colonized their own planets within their Star Cluster.
All these races have the same basic powers. There very bodies act as a natural Focus for manipulation of raw magic. To cast complex spells they would need a wand. However, wand casting was more seen as an expensive hobby. Their natural abilities were considered more then enough.
These abilities must be trained like any other muscle. Depending on how much they are used determines how powerful that specific ability is. Learning complex spell casting often results in having weaker racial magicks.
Each race also has their own unique powers, caused by their biology, as well as the basic abilities of Telekinesis, raw energy manipulation, and an affinity for manipulating a few elements unique to the individual.
Regardless, all these lifeforms (including the dragons) were on a Senate representing each planetary government in the Star Cluster. Well the planets were largely independent, the Senate controlled their military and gave it enough funding to protect all the planets.
It was a military union which set the budgets and passed the laws for their civilization.
In recent years, the Anthros had perfected Warp Drive, allowing them to go past the borders of their Star Cluster.
Picard... was doing his best not to blush as he appeared in the throne room. Before him were two Anthro females. Both were tall, even by their own species standards, with flowing hair (in a quite literal sense). One covered in dark blue fur and the other whiter then snow.
Well he believed he prepared himself nothing could have readied him for their appearance. They were just so gorgeous and shameless. They were one of the few races that believe... clothing was... optional. It helped they didn't have any obvious breast and were covered in fur, but there was still the nagging feeling that they were naked, save for a few pieces of jewelry... they also had very visible nipples going down their stomach and Picard could see even more... personal parts on display.
"Princess Celestia," Picard bowed to the white matriarch. Then to the blue one, "Princess Luna." making sure to address them as Princess, according to his mission briefing, these Equine Anthros had an aversion to Queens. There past was filled by dictators which used such titles.
"I would like to introduce-" however he was cut off
"Lady Picard." Luna looked at Dianna, "Perhaps we can skip the formalities and move onto business."
Picard felt he should finish his sentence. "-My counselor, Dianna Troi. I am Jean Luc Picard, Captain of the Federation Star-"
"YOU'RE the captain of your nation's Flagship!" Luna gaped.
"Loo Loo," Celestia chided, "We went over this. It is common for lower animals to have males that are not only as strong, but often stronger then their females. It is perfectly logical most species would evolve to allow their males in more dangerous positions."
"Seems like just another unruly Stallion to me," Luna's eyes traveled down to Picard's crotch.
It took everything Picard had not to cover his erection, which was far too obvious due to his skin tight uniform. That might very well be how she identified him as male.
Dianna spoke up, "Captain Picard has my full confidence. He has been one of the best Captain's in Starfleet's recent history. Even led us to many a victory against a technologically superior foe we are at war with. Perhaps because of his 'unruly' tendencies."
Luna seemed pacified by this, "Still, it would have been nice if Starfleet took our interests in joining them more seriously."
"Your highness." Picard gave a slight bow, "As I was trying to say, I am the Captain of the Federation Flagship, the USS Enterprise-E. My presence here was meant to show Starfleet's utmost appreciation towards your proposal." Picard managed to say the next thing without blushing, "I apologize for my unruliness in your presence."
Celestia waved off, "It is just part of our Alicorn magic."
Picard did his best not to react to the word "magic". From the debriefing he got, he understood that Anthros had a detailed understanding of the science behind their abilities. They just favored... 'traditional' terminology for it.
The Alicorn continued, "The older we get the more beautiful we become. There are few males, of any species, who would not become 'unruly' in our presence. Rest assured, Captain, we do not hold it against you."
Picard stood straighter. "Then perhaps we could move on? Starfleet is very interested in your offer of an exchange program between our fleets."
Celestia smiled, "We like the idea of learning more about the greater galaxy with your aid."
Luna added, "Though, seeing as our magic makes Anthros immune to Borg nanites, it is a toss up who is getting the better deal here."
Picard didn't raise to the bait.
Once the initial talks were over, Picard returned to his ship with Dianna.
"Their motives are sincere." The woman explained once they were in private. "Princess Celestia honestly just wants this exchange program to improve relations with the rest of the galaxy. I sense that she may wish to use this cultural exchange as a way to convince her people that we are not savages for putting males in dangerous positions."
Picard sighed, "You don't have to be an empath to sense her sister disagrees."
Said Empath smiled, Dianna found all this rather amusing. "She would definitely get along with the natives of Angel 1. Although Princess Luna might not have showed it very well, she was speaking from a place of genuine concern for your well being.
"Your... 'unruliness'," Dianna couldn't help but chuckle while Picard groaned, "Seemed to confirm her suspicions that human males lacked the proper levels of self control to be left to handle possibly dangerous situations on their own. She also had a very hard time grasping that females are not the dominant sex everywhere in the galaxy. I can't imagine what would happen if the Anthros ran into the Ferengi."
Picard groaned more. He, inadvertantly, just made all human males look unsuitable for leadership roles. In extension he made all Federation females seem callus in 'their duty towards males'. Starfleet should have at least sent a female ambassador to accompany him. Perhaps even a female Admiral. All Picard could do was groan.
Males, on this planet, were legitimately small and weak. With very short attention spans and an almost childlike innocence. Though those last ones were likely a result of cultural gender norms, rather then genetics.
Regardless, with how sheltered and physically frail Anthro males were, they legitimately did need the females to look after them. They couldn't protect themselves from the more dangerous predators on their native planets and had no ambition to leave the care of their females.
There was no call for social change as males legitimately liked their place of lazying about, and playing adventure board games, with no desire to actually go on an adventure, as the females were known to.
The Federation had researched the Anthros in detail, as they normally do, for years before first contact. During that time the males showed a legitimate happiness and gratitude towards their female masters. It wasn't just the Equines either, but nearly all the various species of the Star Cluster.
Celestia was the chairman of the Anthro Senate, and could thereby make decisions for their space fairing fleet. Still, it was widely known that she relied heavily on Luna.
If Picard couldn't convince Luna that the majority of males weren't as helpless as those of their own species... then there was no hope of the Anthros actually going through with their own proposal...
"Why do you never listen to my advice!?" Luna glared, "I'm telling you. This is too big for the Senate not to be allowed a vote!"
Celestia rolled her eyes, "As chairmare I can make any military decisions on my own. Besides, it's not like I'm declaring war on anypony. It's an exchange program!"
"With a civilization that is AT war!" Luna exclaimed, completely exacerbated.
"Please," Celestia scoffed. "There little galactic bullies are hardly a threat to us. Calm your nerves dear Sister. All will go according to plan."
Time Turner was a Time Pony, a member of an exotic Equine Species. A fluke mutation of magic, some several thousand years ago, that had long since become one of the larger pony subspecies, and eventually resulted in himself.
His unique magic allowed him to freeze time and teleport short distances. However his biggest advantage was his ability to send his mind back in time. Back into his body in the past. He had never done it more then tracing his steps a few days into the past, but he had used this ability to save his family on numerous occasions.
His herd was a team of adventurers. Though Turner always had to stay on the ship, as the get away driver. Which was more action then most boys saw.
One of his herd mates, Bon Bon, was a licensed monster hunter. She was the one who originally brought them together. Such as their weapons expert Lyra Heartstrings, their Engineer Vinyl Scratch, their diplomat (AKA stuck up lady who new how to work her charm and talk to the officials) Octavia. Then finally the Captain and Turner's first wife, the bat pony Derpy Hooves. They had been Adventuring together for multiple lifetimes.
Their ship was several thousand years old, and Derpy made sure to pass it's inheritance to her next reincarnation. That way she didn't have to buy a new ship each lifetime.
Unlike most Anthros, they tended to reincarnate themselves through Discord. Who was a close personal friend.
Over the millenniums, Turner had helped his wives have many healthy children. Although none like the newest addition to the family. An obedient son. The boy was particularly special as Derpy had had a fluke mutation which resulted in a new Equine species.
The boy's coloring was mostly a bright orange, well his underbelly was a cream white, as in extremely pale orange. Although his lower legs were black, with thick blue squigglies where it met the orange fur, above all four of his knees.
Then his tail was orange, with the underside being the same cream white as his underbelly, with a black tip, plus thick blue squiggles between all the colors of the tail.
His leathery wings were a bright white, with blue bones showing through the thin skin, and a thick black trim at the bottom of the wings.
His cheeks and lower jaw were the same cream white. While the rest of his face was orange. Well, except for the large number of black freckles around his green, anime style, eyes. With just a tinge of red to the irises.
His eyes were pretty bad from reading in the dark a lot as a child (despite his parents frequently telling him not to). So he had to wear big round glasses.
It was extremely rare for a new species of pony to be born, even rarer for the child to be male. Well normally considered a tragedy that the new species couldn't reproduce, this particular one had been special.
Smart Mouth, or Smouth as his family affectionately called him, was like the dragons. He was an Omni sexual being, able to both fertilize and lay eggs. However, unlike the dragons, he had more in common with Equine males. He was very short and physically very frail and weak. Although he had far larger magic reserves then even Unicorns. Still, it was discovered shortly after he was born, that he had the proper organs and would start spawning eggs after he turned 30, like a female.
Right now the kid was still only 18... He might be magically very powerful but Derpy felt it be best for the boy if he was married off to a herd that already had a few males. That way he could have his eggs fertilized well still being cared for by strong mares.
"Dad..." Smouth was blushing and squirming, as he often does, "Can't... can't you talk to mom... I... I don't want to go..."
Turner chuckled, "Bit late for that." He brushed his son's hair.
"I don't even know these ponies!" The boy begged
Turner sighed, "We like to let our offspring do their own thing for their first life. That way they can have a wider view of the universe. You can always come back in your next life, if you choose."
"But I CAN'T Die!!!" Smouth wailed.
Turner rolled his eyes. Smouth was an extremely powerful magical being. When he died, his body would just wake up again, fully healed. He could also speak with, and even control, the undead. His bones were far denser and he could manipulate them to turn into weapons. He could even bring others back from the dead if he got to them quick enough. ALONG with the traditional shadow bending of Thestrals, and the illusions and transformation powers of the Kitsune.
A lot of people were coming to call his species "Necro Pony", as a result of his powers over life and death.
Turner rolled his eyes, "The Doctor's say you can still die of old age, starvation, or disease. Even a harsh environment can actually kill you. Your just more resistant to unnatural deaths. So don't go getting careless and thinking your immortal." He gave the colt a light smack to his rear, getting a yelp of surprise in return, before continuing. "You just have cold feet. You'll love your new herd. You'll even have other boys, your own age, to keep you company. You'll love it."
Mouthy frowned, "They have all been friends for dozens of lifetimes... I'll be the odd pony out..." he expressed his concern.
"Think of it this way. Your new wives are taking their family and joining Starfleet as part of that exchange program. You'll still be living as a Spacer, but now you'll be on a proper exploration vessel. Your wives might even let you help the Engineers or scientists onboard!"
Smouth frowned, "I would prefer to stay with you."
Turner smiled, touched by the sentiment, however, "You can't spend all your lives in a bubble. You need to experience new things and new places."
Once the boy was properly dressed, Turner smiled. "There, now your ready. Be good for your wives and play nice with the other boys. Who knows. You might even want to stick with them for your next lifetime."
Smouth sighed, highly doubting it. He felt like he was being banished rather then gaining a bigger family... still he was a dutiful son and would go through with the marriage.
"Do you Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, and Applebloom promised to love, cherish, and protect the newest addition to your herd?" Asked the Priestess.
There was a round of "I do," from the young mares. They couldn't be more then 20 themselves. Yet they were supposed to take care of him and 3 other boys.
The Priestess seemed to believe they could, as she turned towards Smouth soon to be husbands. Like Smouth they were dressed in the upper part of a suit with their lower half wearing a diaper.
Unlike females, male Anthros were kept in clothes to offer modesty... mostly so they wouldn't be distracting females with their often erect privates.
Males typically wore short robes, tunics, or a more casual t-shirt to cover their nipples... which for some reason was considered obscene for males to show but not females. Their legs were nearly always bare, with only a diaper and maybe a chasity device covering their crotch.
Males weren't allowed to use toilets. Due to past males ruining it for every creature by continuously peeing on the seat.
His new husbands... which in all honesty he was more interested in. Were a lot more eager about having a new member.
A dark brown Earth Pony with an orange main and a D-pad for a cutie mark proudly on his naked thigh. He might very well be 18 but he still looked very young and was even smaller then the others with a round face and cute muzzle. Button Mash, was his name.
Then their was Rumble. A grey Pegasus with an athletic build that stood at an impressive 5 foot 3. A full foot over Smouth. He had a cocky smile and with a haircut that screamed "I'm so cool". He had a cooking cutie mark, a good mark for a husband.
Then there was Spike, the dragon. He was about as tall as Smouth, maybe an inch shorter. With purple scales and a green underbelly. His little wings fluttered excitedly.
Equus Dragons, like him, were extremely powerful magically. They could cast a wide range of touch based spells, or manipulate their internal flame to cast even more complex spells. They could even change their size from 100 foot giants to as small as an ant.
Oops, the Priestess was talking to the boys, better stop admiring them and pay attention.
"Do you boys promise to love and tolerate your new spouse? And not get him into too much mischief?" the crowd chuckled at the Priestess' added comment.
While Spike and Rumble assured, "I do," Button Mash promised, "We'll try our best." getting an outright laugh from the crowd.
The Priestess smiled at Button Mash... obviously tempted to break the ceremony to pinch his adorkable cheeks.
However she retained her composure to look at Smouth, "Do you swear to love, honor, and obey your wives? While showing love and tolerance to your husbands."
"I do." Smouth made himself stand extra straight. He would be lying if he said he wasn't tempted to say "No", but he had too much respect for his mom not to honor her wishes.
These were very important fillies she found to take him in, and he needed to be grateful.
"Then present yourself to your wives." The priestess smiled.
Smouth blushed and turned to face the mares in their pretty white dresses. All eyes were on him, expectantly. He bowed well asking, "Please take care of me and protect me."
The mares all promised, "We will."
Smouth gulped as he said the next part. This was really going to suck but this was a traditional ceremony and he would get in ACTUAL trouble if he broke from the script.
"I submit myself to your will."
Applebloom stepped forward, "I accept your offer." she seemed just as nervous as himself as she began undoing his tie. Then unbuttoning his shirt. Her shaky fingers became more confident as they slowly went down his dress shirt. Once she got the clothes undone she gently pulled them off him and handed them to the priestess. Finally leaving him in nothing but a diaper. Unfortunately that too was removed. It made loud crinkling sounds as she undid the taps and through it away in a nearby bin.
Once that was done, and the boy was completely naked, She gently picked Smouth up and tucked him under her arm. The boy did his best not to struggle. He just gulped and prepared himself, hugging his tail so it wasn't in the way.
All the same, he gave a cry as a hand came down on his rump. He tried to be still but the hand wasn't holding back. It struck him again and again while he cried and promised to "Be Good"... He still had two other mares he had to do this for... marriage was definitely hard work.
Captain Ed Mercer might not be a tall man, but he was far from short. Yet these Amazon like furries towered over him.
"Welcome to the Federation Starship, the USS Orville." The human looked up at the 8 foot bipedal pony.
"Thrilled to be here!" The orange Pegasus practically cheered. Ensign Scootaloo, he believed was her name
The white unicorn, Sweetie Belle (what kinda name was that?), was to her right. She practically song as she spoke "That's right. It's always been our dream to be explorers on a Starship. So when we heard about this exchange program, between our fleets, we had to jump on it."
The Pegasus, with abnormally small wings, scuffed, "We just joined the Anthro Fleet 3 months ago and it was bucking boring as all Tartarus. Twilight wanted to avoid the appearance of Nepotism, so she deliberately assigned us to a Space Station instead of a ship. She bucking sabotaged our careers!!!"
The yellow "Earth Pony" to her left waved off, "I'm sure she was just being over protective. She wasn't actively trying to sabotage us." Applebloom, according to her file... at least her name wasn't as bad as "Sweetie Belle".
"As I recall from your files-" Ed began, "You are the daughters of the champions for your civilization?"
Scoots waved off, "Sorta. originally we were their younger sisters, but for the past few thousand years we have been taking turns as each other's daughters. Anthros like to reincarnate ourselves through our families or close friends. For this generation Princess Twilight is the mother to all the rest of the mane 6. While the mane 6 have given birth to their original siblings.
Apple Bloom grinned, "That makes the ruler of our planet our grandmother and, oh boy, do I feel bad for calling Applejack overprotective." she laughed. "Twilight seems to only get worse each time we die. Yeah, it happens more then it should, but we're in a dangerous field. And it's not like it's permanent."
That told the Captain they were reckless.
"Yeesh!" Sweetie suddenly exclaimed, "I still remember the days when ponies were quadrupeds." she laughed
Applebloom added, "Stallions were treated a lot better back then."
Scootaloo scuffed, "You mean they weren't as lazy back then."
Ed eyed her, "I don't expect their will be any issues when it comes to obeying MY orders. Regardless of my gender." he had been looking for an excuse to bring that up.
The three mares stiffened.
Applebloom informed, "We get that not all males are as helpless as that of our own species. We will respect your authority as a superior officer." She promised and the other two quickly agreed.
Ed sighed, there was that bullet dodged... though how much of that was just telling him what he wanted to hear, who can say.
