Chapter 1: The Cradle of Faust
The two weeks before Hearth’s Warming Eve in the castle of Canterlot, it was a time where any number of things could happen. Ponies left and right desperately buying gifts for their loved ones, families getting together, and even the spark of the new integration of other creatures into Equestrian society! Among the bustling creatures trekking along the snowy streets of the city stood a large ram stallion heading over to the Castle. Given the cold weather, his already thick coat of fur was covered by another fur jacket, a shade that appeared as if he were not wearing a coat at all.
Terra’s reason for being in Canterlot was part of his yearly process. Given the vast size of his herd, as well as the numerous children he has fathered now, visiting them all took a long time to pull off effectively. Given their numerous and conflicting schedules, it was just barely possible for Terra to spend time with his full and now expansive family. This did cause him to often go overworked and be in constant motion. The herd did agree to give him some time to rest, but he didn’t want to take away from any time he could share with them. So it was not uncommon for Terra to sleep a lot during his time with a member of his herd, and no one minded; it only meant more snuggle time in bed.
Though snuggling was always nice, feeling the warmth of a loved one beside him. Their scent, their touch, and their love. Terra wanted to be with as much of his family as he could, he often above and beyond what was expected for his position in a herd compared to other herds. Not seeing a herd leader for a week or month was common among other herds even with herds one fourth the size of his. Other creatures often had just one partner for life, but with how many more mares their are to stallions in Equestria. Herds often had a dozen mares and one stallion that was shared between them. Terra's was easily twice that size of an average Herd’s size. More than once they had to put him to rest, assuring him that he needs to slow down.
Terra had a hard time doing that, he was lucky that his herd had more sense than him and would work things out among themselves to try and get everyone their own time with the ram stallion. Often double or triple dates were had between Terra and the mares of his life. He often enjoyed being home, spending time with them in simple ways. The occasional outing to fancy events with Rarity or Fleur were more common than simply staying at home, while meet ups with others were hosted by Pinkie often left him drained.
Though luckily for Terra, cuddling was often more than enough for his mares as spending time with them was the thing both sides wanted the most. Though that didn't stop him from making sure he played with his kids as much as he could between rests and getting to know them and making up for any time he wasn't around which always tugged at his heart. He wanted to always be around for them. Much like how his mother was for him, even though they weren’t related by blood. She raised him as if he was and always was apart of his life and he wanted to do the best he could for his kids but he felt he had a lot more to do before he could compare to the wonderful mare that raised him.
“I wonder what the Princesses need?” Terra asked himself, rubbing his chin as he reached the front gates of the palace. “If it wasn’t important, they would just send me a scroll. Maybe Flurry needs me to help her with one of her crazy projects again.” A shiver ran down his spine at the thought of it being that particular alicorn again. His thoughts recalling the last time he spent such alone time with her. He felt her project was just a means to get him to come over sooner to help her scratch an itch but after each romp she seemed to get into a fully focused state of her project expect one time... “I don’t think I left that bed for over a week.” He then chuckled. “Then again, she was twitching and gushing for even longer. The palace caretakers were not happy with the broken bed… again.”
Once he was within the palace, his senses were instantly overwhelmed by the strong smells of the holidays. The wreaths lining the halls, the array of chestnuts and pine cones tied about. Though the heavy smell of pumpkin spice was much stronger as he got in. Everyone seemed to love the stuff, he didn’t care for it much though. Terra’s eyes darted around as he saw more decorations as he kept his eye out for any mistletoe, knowing the last time he was not only caught off guard, but he got so worked up that he did more than just kissing. He couldn’t help but let out a hearty laugh, remembering the sheer shock of not only being caught, but how they never got the stains out of the carpet. It was only when he reached the main throne room that he had to shake away the memories, or else he’d get a rather awkward erection that he was sure would end in another crack on Celestia’s throne. Though he was sure she wouldn’t mind as she and her sister seemed to have a bit of a competition of whose thrones got the most ‘cracks of passion’ as they called them.
Standing within the throne room were the four Princesses, as well as fifth person, though she seemed far more cheerful than the other four; it was the former Queen of the Crystal Empire, Umbra. When the five mares saw the approaching ram stallion, their eyes lit up with excitement. No sooner had he reached them, that he got a major hug from the Princesses while Umbra remained somewhat composed. She wasn’t the best as showing her affections and feelings, but after so long, Terra understood and knew she didn’t mean to seem off putting. Expressing herself was harder, she was a warrior by nature, and a leader of a nation that's sole purpose was to ensure that the gates of Tartarus stay guarded and shut for all eternity or else tragedy would befall the world… No pressure right?
“Where’s Gleaming and Flurry?” Terra asked, looking around, somewhat expecting to be jumped at any second like so many times before. “Not even Chrysalis?”
“Gleaming and Flurry are busy setting up the Crystal Empire for the holidays. More so with Gleaming needing extra help with her expecting another little one. I swear it seems like she's trying to compete with Pinkie Pie at this point on who can get the most kids from you.” Cadance explained, leaning in to give an alluring whisper into the ram stallion’s ear. “Don’t worry, she said she missed wrapping some holiday cheer all over that fat cock and plans to make up for it later.” Terra could only feel his fur stand straight at the seductive tone that sent a noticeable shiver down his spine as he tried to keep himself from getting too excited.
“Chrysalis is spending time with the rest of the Changedling Hive. With the new little queen to be born in the next few months. Things have been more active at the hive than ever before” Twilight explained, gently pulling her sister in law away from her hold on Terra. “But she should be there in time for the family party in a couple weeks when the hive was taken care of. A few of her personal protectors will be around to help keep the hive at ease while shes away from it though.”
“Alright, that good to hear I was worried she wouldn’t be able to make it with the one on the way and how agitated the hive gets at such times when shes away.” Terra replied, letting out a small sigh of relief, recalling the last time he and Chrysalis got too intimate, she nearly drained him dry of not only his love, but his balls as well. “So, why have I been called?”
“Well, we were hoping you would spend time with Umbra before the holidays.” Celestia suggested, gesturing at the dark unicorn mare. Leaning in, she spoke in a lower tone to keep the discussion private. “I understand you two have been trying to have a foal for a long time now and things haven’t been going so well.” Umbra shuffled a bit which causes Terra’s attention, the words stung as she felt like it was her fault because Terra’s anything but impotent. Luna grabbing her hand and whispered something to her that made her relax and the soft smile returned to Umbra’s face.
Terra’s attention was quickly brought back to Celestia “So. everyone agreed that you two shoud spend these next couple weeks and take her somewhere special. A special resort, one you’ve been to before.”
“And which resort do you suppose I should bring her?” Terra asked, curious as to what Celestia was planning. After being with her, he knew she was a kind and caring mare, but she could be just as clingy to him as any other. But he knew she would not ruin another mare’s time with him. “All the best resorts will have been booked over a month ago.”
“Oh not this one.” Celestia smirked, as if a clever plan was sparking in her mind. “This one is a special place, the Cradle of Faust.”
“The Cradle of Faust?!” Terra replied, his eyes widening in surprise. “I wasn’t expecting this that’s for sure. No one gets into it unless you and Luna approve of them. Last time I was their was when...” Then it clicked as to why, he was sure it was because of THAT.
“With it surrounded by a village of shops and tourist attractions, high in the eastern mountains. I am sure it’s exactly what is needed.” Celestia boasted a little, as it was a resort she had constructed to attract not only the wealthy from Equestria, but the surrounding kingdoms. Though it was mostly for another reason that was kept secret, one only a few knew of. “As one of the two owners of the resort, I can decide who can and cannot get a room in the resort. And you two will be sharing my personal suite in the finest of the buildings. Am sure you know which one that after your last visit and what happened in it...” Terra chuckled, how could he forget having made the Sun Goddess squirt so hard the fireplace was put out… which happened to be the spot her pet phoenix Philomena was sleeping at the time. The two got nasty looks from Philomena for a good month after that and had never slept in another fireplace again since then.
“I understand that yours and Luna’s time with me there was an expectation.” Terra replied, panting a little at the thought of being in such a place. “But you don’t even let Cadence or Twilight go their. We aren’t causing any issues for you with this are we?”
“Oh hush, don’t you dare think that Umbra and you are being an issue with this.” Celestia chuckled, waving a hand back and forth nonchalantly. “If anyone has a problem with it, they kiss my flank.” Terra was forming words but no sounds came from his mouth as he got a sharp gaze from him making it clear to not say what he was about to say… even if it would have been right.
“Which is why it’s beneficial you are bedding the most powerful mares in Equestria.” Luna commented, being not so subtle in her words. “Besides this was something we all agreed, everyone in the herd agreed that this was a good idea and supported. So Umbra and yours romantic getaway is not something we just thought on a whim. So do not worry yourself anymore about it understand?.”
“Well...when you put it like that.” Terra said, extending a hand to Umbra, pulling her into a soft hug. Her hand resting over the hand he placed on her hip “Ready to go and spend the next few weeks at one of the best places in the world?”
“Y-yes…” Umbra replied, feeling nervous but struggling to hide the blush on her face. Terra’s big goofy smile and genuine kindness was always a bit overwhelming to her. Being treated like a mare and not a leader or warrior got her fairly nervous or flustered almost instantly. Whenever she got nervous, she would speak in her former royal tone of voice. “Y-your Queen is ready to depart.”
“Sounds good to me.” Terra smiled, giving Umbra a gentle kiss on her horn, which he knew she greatly enjoyed. “So we should pack as soon as possible.”
“That won’t be necessary.” Twilight replied, gesturing her hands over to a pair of maids. The maids nodded, running to grab what looked to be large luggage containers. “We’ve already packed everything you two will be needing, and more.”
“And more?” Terra asked, raising an eyebrow at what she meant. “So when do we leave?”
“Now.” Luna replied, looking over to Celestia, Cadance, and Twilight as the four started to walk around the two. Their wings spread, as their horns started to glow. “We suggest you hold your breath.”
“Wait...no, no, no, no.” Terra said, trying to object, as he knew exactly what was about to happen. “We talked about this, you know I really don’t like-”
“Have fun you two.” Cadance said with a smile as she started the spell array that surrounded the two. “See you at the party.”
Before Terra could say another word, magic sparked from the four Princesses, sending surges around their horns, circling surrounded the two before engulfing them in an almost rainbow arrangement of color. And just as quickly as it began, it was over; Terra and Umbra, along with their luggage vanishing in a flash. Terra was never a fan of teleportation magic, having had numerous bad experiences whenever he tried to learn it himself. But the Princesses, who would normally respect his concerns, knew he would be fine, a bit disoriented upon arrival but fine overall. Having them travel this way was better overall though for the two, he could spend more time with Umbra at the resort and not in a carriage which was something she knew he’d want.
The two of them arrived at the resort in a flash of magic, landing them in the middle of the suite room. On the ground, a large glyph similar to the one back at their previous location slowly faded from sight with a rainbow like glow fading with it. While Umbra was far more composed, Terra was huffing and panting as he let her go, dropping to his knees. She wasn’t too concerned over his sudden behavior. This was actually what she, as well as anyone else who knew him well, would expect. Terra was always thrown very far outside his comfort zone whenever he had to go through teleportation magic.
Though he could cast magic, he was more versed in telekinesis, a small degree of magically forming limbs like floating hands, as well as even some somewhat advanced portal magic. Though many would consider portals and teleportation almost the same sort of magic. It was far from what the case, portal magic was more controlled and fixed location and was like walking through a door. With the portal having everything on the other side already in view, so opening a portal was similar to opening a door. Though more advanced portals varied in specific traits. Very few short of people like Twilight or Starswirl could use portal magic of that caliber without issue.
Teleport magic on the other hand was much different in its overall execution and process of moving something or someone from one point to another. Its process changes the axis of their location without having to ever move physically. So instead of walking through a door, it was more like having the door open and you never take a step to get from one side to the other. It was an extremely unnatural feeling and while most aren’t bothered by it. Those like Terra suffer what’s called displacement reorientation sickness. It’s similar to sea sickness as a common comparison but it doesn’t creep up on you. It affects you full force and can often result in fainting and other things.
Teleportation of any kind scared him immensely, everything about it felt wrong and outta place. Also becoming very sick for even a short while like it did to him in most cases was also something he’d rather not go through. He’d rather take six hours to get to his location than teleport if he was given a choice. Though he was at least thankful he didn’t throw up like the last time he was magically transported. But he had to compose himself. He wanted to spend as much time as he could with Umbra, and he wasn’t going to do that on the floor or well he was sure they would at one point but minus him staining the floor with his last meal.
“So, you think Celestia was able to let the staff know we were staying?” Terra asked, getting up from the floor, still panting a little. “Since they...teleported...us here.”
“I would believe so. Twilight would have likely made sure of that and had her or Luna get it done and not forgotten. ” Umbra replied, rubbing Terra’s back, which she knew would calm him down after going through something he absolutely loathe having to go through. “Since we have already dropped off our bags, we should check in just in case.” Terra only nodded, having steadied himself from the teleportation. He composed himself and lead Umbra out of room, though he could tell she was getting excited as she was having an extra bounce in her step when she walked beside him.
The Cradle of Faust was all that Terra had remembered it to be. It was a massive structure that seemed to almost simulate some ancient pleasure palace but also had the feeling of something otherworldly even. He had only ever been there twice before, once with Celestia and once with Luna. Though they were on the Sun side of The Cradle of Faust, the other side was the Moon. The two sides to the large resort were inspired and created by the two Alicorns, both sides having a distinct feeling to them that flowed into one another connected by the Halls of Dusk & Dawn as they were called.
Terra watched as Umbra took a bit of a lead ahead of them as the displays of art and architecture and interior design that seemed endlessly get more and more impressive. As Umbra lead Terra with her fascination of everything she was seeing through The Corridors of Sun. The walls and floors designs slowly shifted to something more natural in appearance but held an elegance to it that only nature itself could create. Terra couldn’t help but smile at Umbra as she let her fingers glide across the statues and the extravagant designs.
Her pace slowed as they had entered the main intersection of the Cradle of Faust, the Halls of Dusk & Dawn. Terra stayed silent as he followed the ebony mare, he didn’t want to ruin the moment. He had been here twice and it was still a marvel to view. So for her to see it for the first time, he understood her awe. She stopped though and looked at a massive pillar mural that stood within the center of it all. Umbra seemed to be absolutely enthralled with it, almost as if she was in an intense trance. Terra went to get her attention but another got both their attention.
“You seem to be rather taken in by the mural your Majesty.” Spoke an old but familiar voice from behind the two. “If I didn’t know better I would say your husband is getting a bit jealous at the looks are giving it.” Both Terra and Umbra turned towards the source of the voice. It was an elderly creature of stone, it had moss patches all over it and vines that seemingly held it together.
“Well, well, I was wondering when I’d see you again.” Terra greeted, smiling as he turned to hug the creature. “It’s been a while Scorpan.”
“It has indeed been a while young King.” Scorpan replied, chuckling as he heard Terra’s little groaning over being called ‘king’. “I hope you two are enjoying your stay.”
“Scorpan you know I don’t like being called that, am not a king.” Terra groaned again, but only sighed a little as he knew the gargoyle wasn’t going to change his mind. “I wasn’t expecting to be visited in person.”
“I know, I know, but allow this old stone watcher to have his fun” Scorpan sighed, sounding more like an elderly grandparent to the ram stallion. “And of course I’d see you as soon as I felt your arrival.”
As this was going on, Umbra stood there somewhat confused and dumbfounded at what was going on. Scorpan, the only person she’s ever heard with such a name was the brother of Tirek. Though everything she knew from books she had read to stories she had heard, he wasn’t made of stone and held together by vines but his figure matched up almost perfectly from she had come to learn. A construct, a golem, or possible a vessel or avatar to project his spirit and will. She could not tell, and felt it would be rude to try and sense the magic of the stone body.
“If you keep your mouth open like that your Majesty, a bird might roost in it.” Scorpan laughed, as he noticed the mare’s staring. “Trust me I know. I am not what anyone would expect, knowing the tales of me and my brother.”
“I apologize.” Umbra responded, bowing her head a little, but her confusion was understandable. “It wasn’t very proper or polite of me to stare as I did, I am just a bit confused at the moment. ”
“It is quite alright alright your Majesty.” Scorpan nodded, then turning his gaze back to Terra, as if he planned to say something a little embarrassing. “You’re at least keeping your composure. Compared to your husband who thought I was under the influence of poison joke.” Terra once again groaned at Scorpan’s words, doing his best to repress that memory. “I believe introductions are in order, I am Scorpan.” As he spoke, he gave a respectful and courteous bow. “I am the caretaker of the Cradle though not in the way you might think.”
“A pleasure to meet you, I am Umbra Aegis. Queen of the Umbrum Kingdom.” Umbra spoke, returning her words with her own the courteous bow. “Excuse me for being bluntness Scopran, but are you the same Scopran that is the brother to Tirek.” She was curious and somewhat concerned. Tirek was currently residing within Tartarus and one of those she was given the job of keeping within the otherworldly prison.
“Yes, I am the same, though you need not worry about my feelings towards you. My brother has chosen his path and I have chosen mine.” Scorpan replied, nodding his head as he understood Umbra’s concerns. “As much as it aches my old heart, he must be held responsible for his actions.” Umbra visibly relaxed at the gargoyle’s words, she couldn’t sense any deceit in his words. “I noticed you seemed to be rather captivated by the halls your Majesty. If you would honor me the privilege to, I would like to guide you throughout the halls and tell you its story alongside anything that resides in them.”
“I would love to.” Umbra replied, her eyes lighting up in excitement over the prospect of seeing more of this resort. “I greatly enjoy architecture and the architecture here is beyond anything I’ve seen so far.”
“Indeed it is your Majesty.” Scorpan commented, taking a degree of pride in his explanation. “Architecture is an expression of art in the same way many make paintings and manuscripts, without being confined to landscapes, portraits, writing, and music. It pleases me greatly to see someone who enjoys it so much. Now how about that tour?”
The three spent several hours going throughout the halls. Terra had almost nothing to say the entire time. But seeing Umbra enjoy herself so thoroughly was enough for him. She had so many questions and Scorpan answered as many as he could. Though as much as he wanted to let her go on with her many questions. There was much more for them to see than the Halls of Dusk & Dawn. Coming up behind the ebony mare, Terra placed his rather large hands on her hips.
“Hun, I think it's time we gave old Scorpan a break and we get something to eat, don't you think?” Terra said, leaning in to whisper into Umbra’s ear. “After all it has been a rather long time since we left our room to check in at the front desk.”
“Y-y-yes, you’re right.” Umbra stuttered, realizing just how much time her interest took up. This only caused a cute blush to run across her face. “We should, I’m sorry for wasting so…”
“You didn’t waste anything.” Terra said, stopping her mid-sentence. “I know how much you enjoy these types of things. Seeing you so engaged and happy about something you enjoy is anything but a waste.”
“You’re such a…” Umbra replied, turning to face him, kissing his horn a bit. “You’re such a big ole sweetheart you know that right?” Terra replied by giving her a kiss back on her horn that sent a shiver up her spine.
“Terra, I’d rather not have you start getting frisky with her majesty in the halls…” Scorpan warned in a teasing tone. “Like you did with Luna.” The old gargoyle’s words caused both Terra and Umbra to stop their playful actions, knowing full well if they didn’t they would have likely gone a lot further. “You know I never got the stains out of the walls or ceiling. Repair and replacement isn’t cheap.”
“Sorry.” Both Terra and Umbra replied in unison as they moved a little away from each other. “We’ll...we’ll see you later.”
As the two turned to fully leave, the shifting of stone could be heard as they approached the hallway that would lead them to the front desk. Shortly after entering it, Scorpan watched the entrance close up as if it never existed to begin with. As he continued down this new passageway, he stopped, turning as if to speak to someone in the dark shadows. The gargoyle was calm as he began to speak, though his tone sounded more like a scolding old man.
“It’s not polite to eavesdrop Your Majesty.” Scorpan said, as if to call out to whoever was there. To which he smirked a little, letting out a small chuckle. “I know you’re there, you know you can’t hide from me.” A tall, voluptuous figure appeared from the shadows in response to the gargoyle’s words, it was the figure of Celestia.
“That was very unexpected of you Scorpan.” Celestia commented, crossing her arms together as she spoke to the old stone creature. “I had to all but order you to come meet Terra the first time… Yet you brought them into the Heart of the Halls so willingly.”
“Yes, I wonder why I did... “ Scorpan said, looking a little down to the floor, as if to contemplate his choice. The Heart of the Halls was somewhere that was not meant to be seen by just anyone after all. “Maybe it was because of her genuine love for something I enjoy greatly… or maybe it was something else… who knows. Though I have work to do your Majesty so I’ll be leaving.”
Celestia said nothing, she originally came to make sure everything was okay as they had not checked in yet at the front desk but came across a rather interesting set of events. She knew Scorpan kept to himself and allowed them into the Heart of the Halls in the Cradle. Something very few have ever been to due to the secrets within them just like Scorpan did. She’d press him another time about it all but for now her concerns about Terra and Umbra were lifted and left the halls from the shadows she came from with only a glint of light flashing before she was gone.
As he and Umbra walked down the halls entering they soon found themselves near the front desk, the elaborate displays and decorations only showed off more and of the exclusiveness of the resort. Not only that, but the staff was especially unique in their look. A uniform that seemed to show off the attractiveness of the mares and stallion, but they were not regular ponies, or even crystal ponies; they were reindeer.
“Luna told me that Celestia she was seeking to get reindeer to work at the resort for one reason or another. Looks like she was able to convince them.” Terra said to himself, looking around as they seemed to prance around doing their tasks and jobs. Their twin horns igniting with magic as some carried and pushed heavy look loads of equipment and laundry. “But to see so many, I have to say I’m a bit surprised.”
“Reindeer are a very reclusive society.” Umbra explained, trying not to talk too loudly. “Even I wasn’t able to establish much contact with more than a few pocket tribes. Seems like Celestia employed a great number of them. Then again, I can only think of a few creatures that would enjoy the vast cold here. They also could read the emotions of those around them and are heavily affected by them.”
“That’s right, they are a lot like Changelings and Changedlings in a way but they don’t feed of love or emotions. The see the aura of all things. They stayed reclusive before of this, preferring areas that are filled with positive energy makes them happier as that emotional energy gives them motivation and drive on top of what they already have. While negative emotions can make them sluggish, tired and sometimes even agitated.” Terra explained, having been told it by Twilight during her own research to help Changelings and Changedlings to provide a food source that wouldn’t require another being and could be easily produced for them to consume. She had considered asking a Reindeer but Celestia made it clear that it wouldn’t be advisable and told her to seek a solution elsewhere.
“Someones been studying with Twilight I see, though am sure that studying ended in something practical and hands on.” Umbra teased
“True. She’s made it clear that we aren't allowed to study in her lab anymore since one of her experiments fell on us and turned us into griffonhons for a few hours… Was a uniquely different few hours, though I think Gleda had Twilight recreate it for later use on me. Did you know griffons have knots on their penises that they use to lock their partners in place during mating? Twilight though said she preferred a flare over a knot so I don’t think she’ll be wanting to get knotted again anytime soon.” Terra replied said in a very matter of fact tone at the end of his sentence Umbra giggled to herself a bit, Terra making such a display reminded her of Twilight when she goes full bookwork. She took a few steps ahead with Terra following closely behind her. As the two walked, they saw not only reindeer, but the guests who were staying at the resort. Terra saw a few he had seen before at the Palace and some he was formally introduced to. Though he preferred to stay out of the political side of things, he did find some of them could be very kind but Celestia made it clear to him that in politics, kindness comes with a price tag of some kind and to be wary.
Looking around, both Terra and Umbra could see a number of creatures they would only see at a Gala back in Canterlot. Several Saddle Arabian Sheiks with their Consorts, a Germane Prime Minismare, A Diamond Dog Trade Prince, and even a Europonian Prince of some kind. But what caught his attention through the crowd, standing just before the front desk, was a reverse colored zebra mare was standing besides a massive lion abyssinian. The lion was actually a head taller than Terra, which made him gulp nervously as very few creatures short of dragons like Embers father stood taller than him and were not some kind of monster. He tried to look past them, but it was surprisingly difficult as one Zebra mare kept his gaze strangely well. It was more unnerving than anything else. It was like a spell was being placed on him.
The zebra seemed to be talking to the abyssinian about something, but as she spoke, she seemed to notice Terra was staring. He wasn’t sure what she said to the lion after that, but even he turned to look at the ram stallion and his mare companion. The lion huffed a bit, but only looked for another moment before looking back to the zebra. But the mare was different, she seemed to be running her eyes up and down Terra’s body. She licked her lips a little as she reached out with a hand, but started to gently rub at a visibly, massive bulge in the lion’s semi torn looking pants.
Umbra blushed as she could see what the zebra was doing. Though she knew that Terra would never engage in such a public display with someone not in the Herd, but she still found it very inappropriate. Grabbing his arm, she pulled at him to follow her. They would check in properly later, she just wanted to spend as much time alone with Terra as possible. And there was no way she was going to have some random zebra mare make bedroom eyes at her stallion. Normally, he would crack a small joke, but knowing how Umbra felt regarding feel beneath someone, he held his tongue. Though he was struggling to keep up with her, since she was pulling so hard, Umbra could’ve easily torn his arm off. With Umbra’s strong gripped guidance they made it to the front desk.
As they approached the desk, Terra and Umbra saw a well dressed but somewhat older Reindeer. He was only starting to have greyer bits of fur form around his brow and around his chin. He was dressed in an outfit similar to many of the other workers but had a different colored dress shirt and had a name tag that seemed to be made of gold with the name. ‘Rudy’ on it. The reindeer indirectly noticed their approach and out of habit, he repeated the same phrase he had for years.
“Hello and welcome to the Crad- oh Terra, it's a joy to see you again.” Rudy said with a playful and gleeful smile. “I was informed of your arrival by Celestia, though I had expected you to check in hours ago. Is everything alright?” He turned his gaze to Umbra, bowing his head towards her “Your majesty, It’s a pleasure to meet you. I am Rudy, I am the head manager or lead supervisor, whichever you prefer to address me as. I must say, you look absolutely stunning.”
“It’s a pleasure Rudy, I am grateful to be in your care and I must apologize for our tardiness.” Umbra replied, returning with a small bow and smiled. “I was the reason for the delay, I was caught up in the architecture in the halls and didn’t notice how much time had passed.”
“It’s quite alright, you two are free to come and go as you please. I was only worried about your well being since you had not checked in after your arrival.” Rudy commented, nodding and smiling as he spoke. Umbra was a bit embarrassed but she didn’t let it show. Though Terra noticed as her grip tightened but the ram stallion said nothing to prevent attention being drawn to it. “If I may suggest, we will be serving lunch soon and we have recently finished incorporating a new multi-species specialized menu. That covers everything from plants, meats, crystals and most recently a plant based meat. Which I’ve tried myself and it tastes wonderful, It taste just like meat but for herbivores it doesn’t violently upset our stomachs.”
Before either Terra or Umbra could say anything, both their stomachs spoke for them. A low rumble from Umbra’s and a noticeably loud one from Terra that drew a few’s attention and a giggle from the guests. Terra couldn’t help laughing at his own embarrassing moment and joked a bit. Rudy remained smiling and professional in his expression. He wanted to laugh a little as well, but not in a mean way, but in a manner that was common for reindeer. The species being a merry race by nature, they were often seen laughing at nearly everything; with it being near impossible to ever seem them upset or even sad.
“Guess I really was hungry, I knew having dessert for breakfast wasn’t a good idea.” Terra motioned to Umbra, who gave him a half lidded look that spoke volumes. The jab to his side for the bad innuendo but Terra swore he heard her say. ‘Kiss ass’. “But that lunch does sound good to me.”
Rudy watched the twos display, it reminded him of when Terra was with Celestia and is remark about cake and how she felt she was eating to much but Terra felt it was going to all the right places right now but her dress did seem a tad tight. Celestia’s face was bright red after that.
“I see you two are in fact hungry, shall I guide you to the dinning hall and get you both something to eat.”
“Yes that would be appreciated, getting something to eat sounds good.” Umbra smiled, as she tried to not be as embarrassed by her previous stomach growls. “And it might keep this big fluffy goof from making anymore jokes in bad taste.”
“Bad taste, what do you mean? You taste wonder-AAAGH..I’m sorry I’m sorry I wont make another bad joke.” Terra cringed a little as his bad joke got his hand twisted somewhat, though he deserved it and he knew it. Umbra’s face could only get so much redder than it already was. She was starting to think her goofball of a husband was trying to make her form a permanent blush and he was succeeding at the moment. Though she didn’t mind the idea of her being his dessert later on if she were to be honest with herself. Though pulling herself a bit closer to her stud and enjoying his warm body was plenty for now.
Rudy had lead the two throughout the Resort, having taken a bit of a scenic route to get them to the dining hall. Though the two didn’t mind all that much, less so Umbra. The view of the resort and it's massive fountain that let a low steam out as the water danced. Freezing mid flight into a variety of designs and shapes. From simple snowflakes to stars, suns and moons to a mixture of the three. It was a sight to behold, and both of them stared at the splendor of the room with open mouth awe.
“Celestia told me she had the people who worked on the Pegallagio in Las Pegasus made it.” Terra chimed as they passed by. “They said they considered it their greatest piece of work yet.” Umbra had seen the Pegallaio before, so to hear that the same people made the fountain here at the Cradle explained the level of expertise. She was a fan of their work and wanted to commission one herself for her palace back home. “You know dear, Luna told me a story over lunch about how you two had gotten a bit too drunk and mistakenly took a dip in a fountain thinking it was a jacuzzi and slept their all night. She said it was one of her less than dignified nights… and it's the reason why she no longer drinks anymore.” Umbra gave Terra a sideways glance, who then stiffened up a bit at her statement, who seemed to be doing everything he could to avoid eye contact from his wife's gaze. Terra wasn’t the only one who knew how to tease their spouse. Luckily for her, she was often kept in the loop of gossip within the herd.
“You would be correct your Majesty, It was also the only time I’ve ever had to scold one of the most powerful rulers in the land like a foal, I hope I never have to do it again in my lifetime. It was a disaster and don’t get me started on how we had to close it down to get rid of Terra’s excess fur that got into its pipes.” Rudy turned to give Terra a stern look. “Please don’t repeat yourself your ‘highness’ during your visits, I can’t promise to be able to cover it up with the steam if you do.” Terra chuckled nervously, the highness bit stung a bit as Rudy knew Terra being referred as such and the tone behind it made it clear it was a very clear warning.
“I have no idea what you’re talking…” Terra said, feigning innocence, trying to distract himself from the topic as best as he could. Umbra gave him a look of disbelief at what he said before turning to Rudy. “...oh look a bird, what a pretty bird don’t you think dear.”
“I’ll make sure he behaves this time around and keep him busy with pretty birds instead of clogging the fountains pipes with fur.” Umbra commented before she pulled Terra down and kissed him on the cheek. “He’ll be plenty busy after all with a queen that requires his attention.”
Rudy couldn’t help but smile at the two, as much fun as it was to tease Terra for his past embarrassing shenanigans. He enjoyed seemed the love between those that visited, it gave him energy to see that overwhelming positive aura around those that visited. He was reluctant at first of Celestia’s offer but as time went on. It was proven to be the right choice to accept. It wasn't much longer before they arrived at the dining hall. With a bit of flare, Rudy turned and presented the area.
“Welcome to the La générosité de Faust.” Rudy informed the two as he showed off the room. “The home to the finest dining and most cooks for all species in all of equestria.” He ended with a bow and a gesture to enter the dining area. “Please, enjoy yourselves.”
The mixtures of spicy and sweet smells that hit their senses, alongside the sounds of a simple performance harp being played by a Siren whose voice coursed throughout the hall ever so softly. The visuals of the area itself was extraigant unto itself but not as much as the halls before but enough to signify just what type of setting it had. There were several segmented areas that held different themes and tones within them. To allow the guests to feel more at home with surroundings that came from their home land or guests to experience a bit of culture from others homelands.
“Which would you prefer? Something from the far eastern lands of Chineigh, maybe something more traditional and closer to home with a setting from Europony.” Rudy said as he directed them through the different parts of the restaurant and had them see each area respectively. “Or would you prefer something south of the equator from Zebrapya. Or would you prefer something a bit closer to home with our most recent addition of the Abyssinia themed area.”
“Actually Rudy, can you take us to the Eclipsing Horizon dining area?” Terra asked, wanting to make this meal as special as he could. “I feel Umbra would enjoy that the most and I wanna show her ‘that’. So if you can have that prepared as we eat please.”
“Of course, I should have expected you would want to take her Majesty to that area.” Rudy turned on his heel. Having a bit of a pep in his step, taking the two to an area somewhat centered of all the others. A crystalline lift lowered after he presented a ruby like crystal necklace from his shirt. The lowering of the lift caught the attention of those around, it wasn’t often that lift came down. It was often reserved for extremely important people or the Princesses themselves. “This way please.”
Rudy gestured for the two to get on the lift before getting on last himself, presenting the necklace once again. The lift shot up at an extremely fast speed, startling Umbra somewhat. Getting a bit of a squeak from the Ebony mare in her surprise, Terra couldn’t help but chuckle. She grabbed his arm as it happened, but luckily for Terra her monstrous strength wasn’t being applied. Thankfully, he didn’t flinch at her pulling like the last time she pulled at him like that. It nearly took his arm out of its socket, but only caused a minor bruise.
“You could have warned me you know.” Umbra looked up at her Stud. Clearly not amused with being startled. “You know I can’t handle surprises that well.”
“Sorry hun, I can’t help it if you sound cute when you’re startled.” Terra replied, giving her a goofy smile in hopes it would spare him. Umbra gaze on the ram stallion remained fixed on him for a moment before her features softened a bit followed by a sigh. “Will you forgive me?”
“You’re lucky I love you” Terra bent down and kissed her horn gently, getting a shiver of delight from the mare. “D-D-Don’t think that is enough to make me forgive you.”
“I promise you’ll enjoy this view and the area.” Terra replied, knowing that kissing her horn always made her forgive him. “Plus I’ll make it up to you later for startling you.”
Umbra didn’t say anything but a simple ‘mhmm’ as she shifted herself closer to Terra, allowing him to wrap his arms around her waist after releasing his arm. The rest of the way up the lift was quiet and uneventful as the two enjoyed the others embrace. Rudy saying nothing to not disturb the two. Knowing when to keep his mouth shut was something you had to know how to do in his job. Though the overwhelming positive emotions from the two was almost too much for him as it only brighten his mood and likely ever reindeer in the area.

After enjoying the rest of the ride in each others embrace, the chime of reaching their destination was heard and broke the silence. Though it wasn’t very long, it felt as if they had rode the lift for thirty minutes instead of thirty seconds to a minute. With the lift having stopped its movements the moment they heard a heavy accent screaming at what they could only guess was the staff. Terra let out a deep sigh and pinched the bridge of muzzle between his eyes. As well as holding his head with the palm of his hand as he shook it a little back and forth.
“He’s still not forgive me.” Terra sighed again, rubbing his head down his face. “Shouldn’t it have been long enough?”
“Seems so.” Rudy shook his head “It looks like he hasn’t, he’s not been like this since he last saw you… Am sorry I didn’t know he was still upset abo-”
“It’s not your fault, lets just hope something can be worked out.” Terra said, stopping Rudy mid sentence. Umbra looked between the two, being utterly confused and was about to ask what they meant. What had happened exactly and why was the yelling they heard related to Terra. Till she heard it start up again, she noticed the Prench accent. “And here it comes.”
“NO! I refuse.” Shouted the heavy Prench accent. “I will naht serve zat swine. no, naht swine zat would deesrespect my brahthers wife twice remahrried”
“But François, they are the Princesses personal guests.” Another voice, possibly a voice of attempted reason, tried to say. “You can’t just turn them away.”
“I do naht cahre.” The Prench voice continued to rave and banter. “Zat bully headed faht goat of a rahm will naht be served my cookeeng.”
“Fine François, but if you are gonna turn him away.” The staff member speaking with François raised his hands up in the air in defeat. Once François got his mind set, he was more stubborn than a buffalo. Though the staff member had one last thing he could use to get the bull headed François to listen. “You’ll be turning away his wife as well and you won’t do that.”
“Ha, I hahve turned celestia ahway befahre.” François scoffed at the staff member, showing some air of superiority and victory. “Whaht mahkes you sink sahme mahre will chahnge my mind”
“It’s Queen Umbra, Gate keep of Tartarus” The staff member replied. François’ eyes went dead silent for a moment having turned his back at the staff member. Then the entire tone seemed to change between the two talking. “Still think you can say ‘no’?”
“Oh! why deed you naht say soonair you bleethereeng fool.” Francois shouted, now panicking over not messing anything up. “Get zem een, get zem seated ahnd I will cahme out to tahke zeir orders persahnahlly. now go dahshair, do naht mahke zem wait”
“Come on hun, lets go. It seems we’ll be seated now.” Terra said, letting out a breath of relief as it seems things resolved itself before he would have had to do something himself. Which he was honestly dreading, but he put on his best face to lighten up the mood from the close call of having to deal with something less than pleasant. “I’m so glad your name can get things done so fast.”
Umbra and Tera left the lift, waving goodbye to Rudy who returned down the lift alone. A reindeer approached them, who was much thinner and somewhat shorter than Rudy. He held a very strict and studious look to himself. Glasses, well kept hair and a presence of control about him. On his chest, a similar name tag to Rudy’s was resting on his chest right above his heart with the name “Dasher”. But just like his associate, this reindeer also held a smile across his face in order to appear as welcoming and polite as possible.
“Welcome back Terra, it is good to have you here again.” Dasher said, turning to face Umbra, bowing a little. “And it is an honor to have you here as well your Majesty. It is a great pleasure to have you here. I must say personally as well, thank you for all you’ve done protecting us with your work at the gate and across Equestria.”
“O-Oh...well thank you.” Umbra shyly replied, taken aback by the praise. She was almost never praised for her work outside of her herd or those under her that guarded the gates to Tartarus. Most would rather ignore it and live in ignorance of it. “I’m only doing my job. It’s a pleasure to meet you Dasher”
“Your efforts and your soldiers keep us much safer every day.” Dasher added, showing his polite tone. “So it would be an honor to seat you and your husband.”
“That would be nice, please do.” Umbra turned to Terra and asked. “Where would you suggest we sit, you’ve been here before?”.
“I’d suggest letting Dasher pick for us, he seated me with the Princesses the last two times I was here and both had been wonderful.” Terra replied, after taking a few minutes to really think his answer over. He then turned to Dasher “Would you mind doing that for us Dasher?”
“Of course, in fact I was hoping you would. I know just the spot. Please follow me” Dasher grabbed a pair of menus from a podium nearby before leading the two to an area near the windows. It had a wonderful view of the mountains and down below you could see the lights of the village below that looked more like a small city in size but had no skyscrapers or towering structures. It had a far more homely look to it. Umbra’s eyes lit up a bit at the sight as she looked out. It was truly a wondrous sight to behold. “Do you approve of the view your majesty?”
“Yes It’s wonderful Dasher.” Umbra replied, feeling more and more anticipation over how the meal would be if just the atmosphere alone was this remarkable. “Thank you!”
“That is great to hear, I shall be back with some water.” Dash smiled, slowly turning. “Chef François will be out soon as he has said he’ll personally take your orders.”
The couple nodded and began taking their seats at the table. Terra making sure Umbra seated first, scooting her chair in after she was comfortably seated. As Terra went to set himself, he put his hand on the chair and magic enveloped it a bit. It becoming a much bigger seat as it adjusted for his size. It was a nice touch to the seating here, the seats would adjust based on who sat in them for the most suitable seat.
“So, why don’t you tell me what was going on on the lift earlier.” Umbra asked, turning her head a little in a curious expression. “What have you done to upset someone so much that years later, they are still upset at you.”
“Well wha-” Terra tried to explain, but was cut off by the strong tone from beside him.
“Eet ees how you say, wahtair undair ze breedge your mahjesty.” The two turned to the source of the voice and what they saw was a Breezie. Small, in a white chef's coat with a red trim. Umbra was a bit taken back by the small chef, his voice made him seem much much larger than what he actually was. What seemed to hover infront of her was a breezie, though he was bigger than the Breezies she knew more commonly. He had a thicker body and larger wings. “Ahllow me to eentrahduce myself, I ahm frahnsois vetahllo. like my ahsseestahnt said befahre, I zank you fahr your sahcreefice ahnd wahrk.” The Breezie hoved to the vase that sat on the table, facing Umbra and gave a deep bow. Once again Umbra was a bit surprised by the praise and sheer respect. It was a pleasant thing to experience from something that was often a thankless job that left many in fear of her and her soldiers. The sense of pride filling up inside her was immense.
“That’s very kind of you.” Umbra replied, trying to be humble but she was beaming with joy and pride inside. She didn’t want to allow herself to get to fat of a head by a few compliments and praises but it was nice to receive them for her work when they almost never happened. “Am happy my efforts are making a difference in a noticeable way.”
“But of course, your effahrts ahre ahlways nahticed. so ahllow me to repay your hahrd wahrk ahnd effahrts weeth a meal like no othair. Would you ahllow me to surprise you?” François said, turning to look at Terra with a mild annoyance “Ahnd your husbahnd too of course. ahs well ahs teacheeng heem how to prahperly dreenk wine. to ahvoid heestahry repeateeng eetself.” Terra turned his head to look out. Knowing full well what the Breezie with an attitude meant.
“Terra?” Umbra asked, looking over to Terra, who had remained silent for the conversation between the two as he looked out the window. “Are you fine with that?”
“Yeah.” Terra replied to his wife and nodded, responding “François cooking is second to none. So if he says he’ll make a meal like no other, then he will.”
“Then it’s decided.” Umbra smiled before turning back to François “Yes that would be wonderful François.”
“Excellent!” François nodded and smiled, hoving up from the vase he was on and said “I shahll return weeth your meal shahrtly zen.” Before taking off like a bullet to the kitchen, the sounds of it getting very busy could be heard shortly after.
“So…” Umbra’s magic sparked from her horn and a light smokey mist almost slithered through the air and to Terra’s chin. Getting his attention and said “I believe you should tell me what happened with the wine.”
“Yeah, if you really want to know.” Terra sighed a little, smiling a bit “You know how Luna swore off Wine well…”
The afternoon proved to be very eventful, Umbra learning why the Breezie Chef was so upset with him. Whether it involved wine and her laughter couldn’t be contained. Terra had done a great many things that were silly or embarrassing when it came to formality and noble practices but this was something on a whole different level. Though her face became red in a strong blush whenever the ram stallion mentioned anything that was too risque. Though her laughter was quickly replaced with awe as their meals had been brought to them. It was a feast, something akin more towards a gala dinner. “Yes.” Dasher smiled, grabbing the floating dish and fork and began to dig in. “Let’s indulge.”
