The Spell Breaker
Chapter 3: Acquireing Knowledge
Previous ChapterIt wasn't that long of a ride until I was able to come across a tourist stand. Hoping off my hoverboard and picking it up in one arm, I headed to the stand to get much needed knowledge. The stand was a typical square, shack-sized booth with a front window shaped opening for communication. A circular sign was stood on top of it with a stylized i and read info underneath. Advistersments were plaster all over the booth, and making it hard to discern the building's paint color. Carriage rides, Bridleway tickets, and hotel rooms were being advertises, and were designed with bright and bold colors to lure in eyes like a trap.
In front of the info booth was a short line consisting mostly of the three different species of the miniature horses. Only a few of the waiters were griffins and minotaurs. A small sigh escape my mouth as I was forced to wait to get the info I desired. As I approach the line, I notice my arrival has caught some curious eyes.
"Psst, what is that?" Loudly whisper a pegasus bypasser to his buddy.
"Mommy look! It has some shinny things attach to it's small nose and ear!" A baby griffin squeaked to a older one.
"I never seen another minotaur like that? Do you know what tribe do you think she's from?" A brown minotaurs asked to another wearing glasses.
"No, I have never seen another minotaur like that one. But I don't think it's a her, it's chest is too flat to be a heifer." Reply the second minotaur.
The mistake of my gender has always been a ongoing occurrence in my life. In childhood, I was always tease by my peers for my effeminate looks. Words like "sissy" and "tomboy" were the many insults hurled at me during school. I remember always getting in fights, and limping home in bruises and tears to my abuelo. He would always carry me to the kitchen and sat me on the counter. He would then give me his famous pain remedy, a teaspoon of honey
"And now the pain flies away, just like a bee." He would tell me in child-like wonder. After words, he would always ask me if the other kid was more roughing up then I was. My abuelo was many things, but a saint wasn't one. A unhealthy love of alcohol, casual use of the sailors' unsavory vocabarly, a love of violence, and his crude jokes were the many sins that he carried.
Despite his flaws, he was someone I looked up to. I still remember the day when I told him that I was being bullied for my girlish traits.
"Mijo, what makes a man isn't how a man looks. If that was true than your abuela would be a man also." He chuckle. He always knew how to get a laugh out of me and earn "love hits" from my abuela.
"You see mijo, a man is someone who can do what must be done. Even if he is weak, he will give his strength. Even if he is scared, he will give his courage. Even if stupid, he will give his wisdom. And most importantly, even if he is inadqute. He will give it his all. To stand up to any challenge, is what makes a man."
Each word since than has struck a cord within me. I felt inspire to become just like the man that my abuelo described about. I yearn to become a true man that he could be proud of. But even though my desires are true, I still feel nothing more than a boy. Ever since that day I found out that I can use the fable Counter-Spell, I never felt so helpless. How I wish I was able to change the outcome of life.
Maybe than, I would be able to sav-
"I can help who's next!" A female voice shouted.
I flinch my head back up from the sudden intrusion to my thoughts.
I really need to break that habit.
With a clear head, I approach the booth.
"Hello my name is Helpful Guidance! How can I help you today um.. is it Mr?" The light blue pegasus inquiry apprehensively. A black uniform cap with a stylish i rest upon her curly, white mane that reach down to her chin. I notice her short tail was the same color as her mane, and she had a tattoo of a compass on her flank.
Seems like some sort of custom if all her kind have them.
"Yes, it's Mr.Reyes." I replied with a small smile.
"Sorry about that sir, I have never seen a.."
"Human."
"A human before. Not to be rude, but some of your features threw me off. Quite frankly I'm a bit jeolous of your long eyelashes." She mumbles that last bit.
"Yep my good looks are the source of envy of all." I dramatically joked and arose a chuckle out of the blue mare.
"And funny too, many mares love a combination of the two. You must be a very popular stallion." She jested.
"Yea, but many of the ladies has learn a terrible truth about me. I'm a major heartbreaker." I exaggerated with a smirk.
"Well, I must warn all my marefriends to look out for you than." She laughed. She rose a hoof to her mouth and let out a small cough.
"Now, how can I help you Mr Reyes?" She professionally ask.
"I was looking to get a map, and directions to a broker and library. I got no usable money nor any knowledge where I am to be real with you." I admitted.
"That I can help with easily, but I like to ask how did you get to the famous Manehatten without any bits and not know where you are?" She curiously questioned.
"Short answer would be am a estúpido. An actually explanation would be a teleport accident. A very long distance teleport accident."
"Well I'll be. I knew a co-worker that told me she helped a unicorn that had went through a similar predicament as you. The big differents was that, he was from Canterlot and I'm going to guess you are not a Equestrian ." She concluded.
"Bingo señorita." I affirmed.
"My condolences Mr Reyes, and here's the map you wanted." She hoofed over a map title Manehatten. I notice that three spots were circle in black ink.
"On the map I circle the places you ask me to find. The library is the circle that is closest to the park here. The broker is the circle within the city. The last one is city hall, a place I highly recommend for you to visit." She pointed out.
"What's at the city hall?"
"Equestria has been seeing a major blossom in travelers from other nations recently. This resulted a notice of the lack of medical knowledge outside of pony species. A recent law has been put in affect by the princesses that city halls are to get any medical info of any unknown species. Then they are instructed to file it and give that person a card detailing said info in case of an emergency." She explained.
"Well thank you for everything Mrs. Guidance." I thanked with a smile.
"No problem sir! Also while you're at city hall, try to apply for citizenship or at least get a work visa. Even if you do sell something at a broker, those bits ain't going to last you."
"I'll just do that. Muchas gracias!" I thanked the helpful mare once more before I headed off to the broker.
Dear P̶r̶i̶n̶c̶e̶s̶s̶ Celestia,
Earlier this morning, the Cutie Map has reach out once more with another friendship mission. But when I went to check on the map, I was flabbergasted on what I discover. The marker that shows us where we needed to go was highlighted in a dark red. Me and the girls were all mystified of the unusual occurrence. It wasn't until Discord came to help clear this conundrum. Unfortunately, we were met with terrible news. Discord, being a spirit, was able to decipher Harmony's meaning through emotion. I never seen Discord ever become so stone-faced in my life before. It was a complete one eighty degree switch to his personality. He requested me to tell you this, Harmony is scared. He explained that whatever is in Manehatten right now, it has the ability to neautrilze Harmony's magic. Me and the girls plan to go tommorow to hopefully learn if this presence just poses a threat or it is one.

Your fellow princess,
Twilight Sparkles
"Sister, what troubles you?" A concern, but confident voice called out. The owner of the voice that disturb it's sister's reading was a dignified mare. Possessing a impressive height for a pony, a spiraling horn, wings of great length, and royal attire signify that this mare was an alicorn and one of the princesses of Equestria. Her dark blue coat, her ever-flowing hair with stars shining, and the mark of the moon declared that she is the Princess of the Night, Princess Luna.
"Terrible news brought by our dear friend, Twilight, little sister. Something is in Manehatten that distressing the Spirit of Harmony. Harmony's fears was even able to shake up Discord." The motherly, but worried voice of Celestia replied. Princess Celestia, Princess of the Sun, was a slightly taller alicorn than her younger sibling. Her coat was a brilliant white, her mane was ever-flowing like her sister's, but the colors were bright shades of blue, purple, and a whitish green that radiated. She wore a golden royal attire, opposed from Luna's steel regalia.
"So Harmony is truly scared? This indeed is quite a troubling matter. If this thing has soomething that can negate it's magic." Luna contemplated.
"It has the potential to destabilize the planet if it destroys Harmony's core." Celestia concluded.
"I'll go send a company of both day and nights guards to the old castle. We don't want to risk it getting close to the Tree of Harmony." Luna stated.
"As much as I don't like the thought nor would the girls, I'll give Twilight a squad of guards for tomorrow. I can't have them go alone with a being that can upset Harmony." Celestia sighed.
"I'll start the preparations for the deployment Tia." Luna excused herself until she stood at the exit.
"And good luck older sister on trying to convince Twilight and her friends of accepting the squad of guards. They are very stubborn accepting help on these matters." Luna smirked.
"It not that I fear they would decline the aid. It's the guards having to deal with them. I believe Dash and Applejack would refute any assistance, their pride is almost immeasurable at time. But, I feel even worse for the guards that would attend Rarity. She would surely put them to work by making them carry her luggage and shopping bags." Celestia jested.
"Well, I'll be off with deploying the guards. I'll make sure the squad that will accompany the girls to be warn of the possible headaches of this mission." And with a small giggle from Luna, she headed out the throne room to do just that. Celestia smile at her sister's upbeat departure.
It may of been already a couple years since Luna's return. But each minute with her, I still feel the same ecstasy of the day she was return to me.
Celestia would always be eternally grateful to the girls when they cleanse her sister from that demon. But the guilt of leaving her sister to be susceptible to that Nightmare still festers within her.
I'll make sure nothing happens to you again my dear sister. You deserve happiness.
"Well it time to reply back to Twilight. I can only pray that whatever it is, it can be reason with or possibly befriended." She hoped. Floating a scroll and pen, she begins to write.
Dear Twilight Sparkles,
Thank you for your quick notification of the situation. After consulting with Luna, we decided.......
