Hero
Why...?
Load Full StoryA filly, that's all everyone thought of her, her mother, her aunts and the royal guards. Her mother didn't think that she could go anywhere alone while she was a filly, so she had a royal guard with her everywhere she went. At a young age she has been taught magic and because of this she has wisdom about magic way before many should at such a young age. With a light blue coat and a black mane at the top of her head that goes into a darker blue. Obsidian Night, adoptive daughter of the princes of the night, was walking through the grand hallways of the castle of canterlot she stood out like a needle in a hay stake in that castle.
Everything was pastel and bright the walls, the candle holders, the rugs, everything, while she was a filly with a dark mane, but her mother always liked it because it was easier to find her in the big halls. The filly kept walking to the dinning room where her mother and aunt's were having tea and discussing "the royal life" which she never understood but she didn't mind. Above her was a guard, she never knew his name, they never talked it was always boring for her when she was alone.
Large doors stood in front of her and they were opened by the guards the were blocking anyone for going in except her and royalty.
When she walked in she saw her regal mother in a chair with her royal regalia on, she was talking to her aunt Twily, even though she wasn't her real aunt she always considered her as one the same with princess cadence though she is aunt tia's adoptive niece so that made them related. Obsidian saw that the guard left her, which she was happy about. She walked up to her mother and sat on her lap while she talked and talked. "Honesty mother can talk so much when she wants to" Obsidian thought to herself she always knew her mothers past as nightmare moon, she was happy her mother was different than all the other "boring," mothers Obsidian chuckled at her self when she remembered when she called every pony else boring.
"Sid? Whats on your mind honey?" Her mothers voice snapped her out of her thoughts, she looked up and saw that her mother was looking at her. Her mother always called her by her nickname. The only time she called her by her full name was when she was in trouble.
"Oh nothing but I do have a question that's been bugging me for a while" she said while looking up at her mothers beautiful teal eyes.
"What is it you can ask." her aunt Tia's voice said
“ um I was wondering what's a hero?" she asked. She was everyone look at her with surprise never in a million years would they think that question pop out of a little fillies mouth.
"Well a hero is some pony who saves every pony" celestia said
"but why do they save them? Saving or helping ponies is just some thing you do already" she asked
"There are many types of heroes there are some that do bigger things to help and some who do small er things" Luna said looking at her daughter and stroking her mane that was in pink tails at the moment.
This made Obsidian wonder why? why do they save, why do some get credit and some don't. It didn't make sense to her why did ponies consider them as heroes when all they are doing is whats right.
"but why? why be a hero when all your doing is what right" She asked
"It might be doing what's right but that would mean saving ponies who can't do what's right" Cadence said
"but why can't they do what's right aunt tia always said "that all ponies have hearts as gold" and they always do good things why can't they save the world and be heroes?"
Every pony knew that Obsidian was smart way beyond her year, but the points she was bring beyond them was nothing like they have heard before.
"well I say that because it's true but not every pony wants to be heroes and not every pony wants to help. Ponies help with their own free will be we can't make them help others because we want them to." Celestia clarified to her young niece.
"oh then why don't they want to help does that make them bad and villains?" Obsidian asked looking around the room for a answer, but no one seemed to give her one all seem to be in their own little world thinking about her question.
"well we all know from experience that there are villains in the world, but just because they don't want to do something like help some pony out does not make them a villain" Luna said to her daughter though she couldn't help but wonder why she was asking these questions.
"but you and aunties are all heroes is it because your royalty?"
"No of course not, we are heroes because we help all and we saved many from villains from the past"Cadence said
"So because we are royalty that makes us heroes?" Obsidian asked not fully getting her answer.
"well we do things for every pony and every pony thinks something different of you. Your not a hero automatically because your royalty, you have to do things so ponies can look up to you and if they look up you can help them" Celestia said wanting to help her niece understand though she will admit helping through defining this word if proving to be difficult.
"By the way, why are you asking these questions?" Twilight asked, every pony was wonder the same thing. Why would a filly be asking this sort a question?
"I don't know, I read aunt Twilight's friendship book and the word hero kinda came up a lot." Obsidian said shrugging.
"well did we answer you question" Luna said
"I-I think you did thanks mama and aunties!" obsidian said hugging her mother around the neck.
"your welcome now, go and play with you cousins" Celestia said. Obsidian ran to the door and before she left she turned around and waved at them. Obsidian found flurry heart, stellar sentry, and Golden heart all playing together. Though Golden son of celestia was wearing a cape.
"Oh Sid your here want to play with us?" Flurry said walking over to her, Obsidian nodded walking sitting on the carpet with Flurry joining her with Stellar. Golden was on top of a stack of books with a sword in his aura.
"Behold, you all I am your saver of the beast!" Golden said standing in a pose while flurry and Stellar clapped for him. At the corner of her eye Obsidian saw uncle spike on the ground with ketchup on him. She laughed but still played along with the game and clapped for him.
"Oh your our hero Prince Golden heart!" Flurry heart said, that made Sid think. heroes came in all shapes and sizes and even if it was in a game they were all heroes, just in their own way. She wanted to be a hero, to make her mother proud someday but not just her every pony. She wanted to be a hero to her mom, the most important pony in her life. That's when it hit her what she wanted, she didn't want to be some role model or princess. She wanted to be her mother’s hero one way or another and she was going to accomplish that goal someday even if it takes her a thousand years, she’s going to be her mother’s hero. Her mother was hers and she was going to be her mother’s
