Chapter 1 Death, love, life
A single cry of pain echoed through the hospitals normally quiet hallways. The cry came from a mare currently in the process of labor. The mare was blue in color with a lighter colored mane and tail. Beside her was her husband. Who was holding her left forehoof with his right forehoof. He tried to stay brave for her; he saw that she was scared an in pain. He knew he had to be a pillar of strength for her. But, what he was bearing witness too, nothing could prepare him for. His wife cried in pain as the doctor preformed the procedure. His hooves were a bloody mess like the bed the mare was layed upon. He called for a nurse; who brought him a syringe. She injected it into the I.V drip; allowing the chemical inside to enter the mares body. She screamed and howled in both fear and pain. She cried out for her husband. Yelling out asking him what was wrong. She begged and pleaded for help. Crying out for mercy; begging for the pain to stop. But, most importantly she cried out for the most important creature in the room. One that she loved more than anything in the world. She was crying out for her newborn foal. She screamed out for her baby before everything went completely black.
The mare woke from her sleep screaming loudly in fear. She looked around and saw that she was back at home. Resting in her bed next to her still sleeping husband.
“My baby.” She gasped out in a voice just barely above a whisper.
The mare quickly got out of the bed and galloped to the room just down the hall. Cries echoed through her home; cries of a child calling out for its mother. Tears fell from the mares eyes' as she reached the door and opened it. The moment the door opened everything was silent. There was no more crying. The only crying that was left was the small sobs that escaped from the mare. Slowly, she walked up to the crib in the room. Her body shaking a little with every step she took. When she reached the edge of the crib; she looked down only to see nothing inside. Another sob escaped her as the tears began to fall once more. She fell to the floor; crying heavily as she called out for her baby. She jumped as she felt the gentle touch of a hoof on her back. She looked up to see that sad look of her husband a unicorn.
“Our baby?” She asked in a almost pleading tone, “Where is our baby?”
The stallion sighed while shaking his head; for the last three weeks his wife had been like this. Ever since that horrible night. The doctors said in time she would accept what happened to their foal. Yes, it would take time to heal. But, he knew something was not right. He saw it every time he looked into her eyes. Every time he watched her hold a foals stuffed animal like it was a foal. Every time she would ask for them to try again. He looked at her with tears of his own starting to fall.
“Dear,” He spoke struggling a little to find his voice, “Morning Dew, this has to stop.” He said trying his best to sound strong.
She grew confused, “Stop? What do you mean?” She asked.
She got her answer when he looked at the crib; the doctors warned him to not rush the process. But, seeing the one he loved like this almost every night. It was killing him on the inside. With his magic he levitated the crib up into the air. Only to smash it into the floor. Causing his wife to scream.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” She screamed out as she tried to stop him; but she could do nothing as she watched him destroy their baby's bed, “STOP, THE BABY!”
“IS DEAD MORNING DEW!” He yelled at her causing everything to go silent. She stared at him; tears slowly falling from her eyes, “Our baby is dead.” He finished.
“No, no,” Morning dew sobbed as she shook her head in denial. Repeatedly saying no over and over again; before her husband hugged her. She then pushed him off her hard, “Get out.” she said through gritted teeth.
“Morning.” He tried to said only to have a piece of the crib thrown at him.
“GET OUT!” She screamed at him.
She hurled more broken pieces at him; he didn't want to hurt his wife so he did as he was told and left. She followed him all the way; stopping only at the entrance to their home. Screaming and yelling at him to leave and never come back. She stayed there and watched as he walked away. Slowly she sank back down to the floor and continued crying. She looked up at the night sky above; silently praying for Celestia to return her baby to her.
It's then shown that the mare and stallion both lived just outside of Ponyville. They lived along the road to Canterlot. On the other side of town was a cottage; on its front porch sat the lord of chaos himself.
To say the night was perfect would be a very big understatement. Oh, yes, the princess of the night had outdone herself tonight. Many stars shinned tonight; forming all sorts of constellations. While the moon itself shinned its brightest reflective light. Yes, tonight was a very beautiful night. Out on the front porch of a cottage sat Discord. He stared up at the sky with a peaceful expression. A glass full of chocolate milk in his talon hand. While his tail gently rocked him back and forth in the chair he sat in. A gentle breeze then passed over his body; it made him sigh in peace. Before he took a sip from his glass. Some of it disappearing like liquid into his maw. He looked around at the home; thinking about how blessed he was to be free. How grateful he was to the mare that had reformed him. How happy he was to be her husband; and how excited he was for being a future father. He looked down into his glass of milk; his reflection stared right back up at him.
“Nervous?” His own reflection asked.
Discord released another sigh, “I am,” He responded before looking out in front of him. Focusing on the small river that flowed in front of the cottage, “I've never been a father before; so, this will be completely new to me and her.” He finished as he brought the glass to his maw. Taking another sip from the glass.
“If you are nervous then you must imagine how she must feel,” His reflection spoke, “After all she has never been a mother before.” It finished just as he brought the glass down.
“I know, I know,” He replied as the thoughts of fatherhood raced through his head, “Neither of us know what parenthood is like,” A smile then stretched across his face, “But, I've never seen her look so happy before.” He finished as he remembered the night they made the decision to become parents.
(Four months ago.)
Discord was on top of the cottage looking up at the night sky. In the distance he could hear the roar of thunder; and just outside of his field of vision. He could see flashes of lightning from the storm. He sighed as he looked up at the stars; watching their twinkling lights shine in the darkness of the night. His head rested in his hands; his legs were crossed and a serious looked had etched itself onto his face. It was then he heard the flapping of wings; just before he felt the sound of hoofsteps making their way towards him. He shifted his head to look at who was approaching him. Only to see the kind face of his wife looking back at him. He smiled back at her as she sat down next to him.
“It's cold out,” She said as she pulled a blanket she was carrying off her back. Before she layed it over him, “I didn't want you catching a cold.” She finished as he moved over a little. Allowing her to cuddle with him; her warm body snuggling up to his slightly cool body. She heard him sigh as he wrapped his paw around her.
The two lay there in silence; listening to the sound of thunder in the distance. While they gazed up at the sky. Nothing needed to be said; because everything was perfect for them. They were in each others loving embrace. Sharing and feeling the others warmth. Yes, this night was the perfect night for them. As they lay together Fluttershy took notice of the expression on Discords face. It was a serious expression almost like he was deep in thought.
“Everything alright love?” She asked.
He nodded as he pulled her a little closer to him, “Yeah, I'm just thinking.” He answered.
“About what?” She asked before she rested her head on his neck.
She heard him sigh, “Fluttershy,” He began before he began to process the words he was about to speak, “Are you happy?” He asked her.
“That's a silly question,” She replied as she nuzzled him, “You know I'm always happy when I'm with you.” She finished.
“I know. But, are you happy with us?” He asked her feeling her head shift itself upwards; allowing her to look at him?
“Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?” She responded in a voice filled with confusion.
It was then He shifted and moved himself over top of her. Allowing him to look her in the eye. She stared up into his multicolored eyes. While he stared back into her eyes. They were completely silent; he then gently kissed her and she returned the kiss. They broke the kiss a few seconds later.
“Fluttershy,” He said as he moved his head closer to her ear, “I want us to have a child.” He whispered.
She gasped as she sat up while he moved off to the side. She turned towards him and stared at him. Her eyes as wide as saucers. She remembered about a week ago when she mentioned how she dreamed about becoming a mother. And, she also remembered how he had become almost distant. How she caught him focusing heavily on something; almost as if he was thinking really hard about something. She looked at him and saw him gently smiling at her.
“Discord,” She began having a little trouble finding her voice, “I....I don't want to pressure.” She was silenced by him pressing a gentle talon against her maw.
He then shook his head, “I want this also dear,” He said as he pulled her into a gentle hug, “I've thought long about this. But, the more I think about it; the more I realize how right it would be,” He continued as he gently rubbed the back of her head, “I want us to have a foal, Fluttershy,” He then moved back and looked her in the eyes again, “I want us to become parents.” He finished.
Fluttershy felt tears falling from her eyes as she looked at her husband. Who was smiling back at her. Then in a movement faster than she had ever made before; she jumped forward and pinned him on his back. While she shouted, “Let's have a baby!”
“Hey!” Discord shouted in a playful tone, “Not on the roof! Not on the roof!”
(Present time)
Discord chuckled fondly at the memory of that night. He almost laughed as he remembered how sore he was the next morning. He looked down into the glass and saw his reflection staring up at him. A rather devious look was on his face.
“Who would have though a mare as innocent as her. Was such a devil in the bed.” His reflection laughed.
“Oh, go explode.” He said as he down the remainder of the glass; before he chucked it out front. Causing an explosion to occur.
He chuckled a little until he felt a strange sensation course through his body. He smiled and snapped his fingers. He found himself in their room; laying on their bed. He smiled as he felt her snuggle close to him.
“Thank you, Discord.” Fluttershy thanked him as she sighed happily.
Discord smiled, “No, Fluttershy. Thank you.” He thanked her as he gently rubbed her stomach. He could feel the chaos magic inside. It felt so innocent, yet, he could also feel the chaotic side. It made him smile. Yes, whatever foal they may have. He knew for some strange reason he knew they would be great parents. But, the question was what were they going to be the parents of? That's what scared him the most; not knowing. Normally his chaotic power would reveal to him a soon to be born child's gender and appearance. But, his child was never revealed to him. He tried to get a peek at his child once. Only to be blocked with a great surge of chaos energy. It blew him across the room and into a wall. He remembered saying only one thing, “That's mine!” he chuckled once more at the delightful memory. Eventually he did fall asleep once more; as he was about to return to his dreams. He felt his child gently push up against his paw once more. He smiled happily before he fell asleep.
