A couple of years after Twilight ascends to the throne of Equestria, Fluttershy opens up an orphanage for the ponies who had lost their parents. One orphan in particular is distant from the others because he holds onto hope that his father is still out there.

Hearth's Warming Eve arrives and Fluttershy and the others hope that this young colt will finally open himself up to others and try to make friends and see that he has a family in the staff of the orphanage and the other orphans.
