Equestria of the Dead
Chapter 31
Previous ChapterThe trip to Diamond Pharmacy wasn't an easy one. There were zombies all in the streets either which way they turned. Velvet had to constantly, double back around and take alternate routes before finally making it to the destination. The building was as large as a superstore, but there was no time in marveling it. All three got out of the van and headed inside. Just as they predicted, the entre place was ransacked; shelves tipped over, merchandise and broken glass all over the floor, and signs of a massive fight. "Tread carefully." Spike said. Slowly, they walked through the wreckage; being as carful as they could not to trip over anything.
"Wow, they really did a number on this place." Twilight pointed out. "I'm surprised the lights are still on."
"We should hurry." Spike suggested. "It's possible that there might be some zombies on the way here, thanks to the van." They were all in agreement, and continued forward. After making it to the back of the store, the came upon a door marked "employees only". Going through, they entered a small hallway with a few doors; seeing one marked as "main office" towards the end.
"That must be it." said Velvet. Spike was the first one to enter, and was met with a regular sized office; complete with a large desk, two chairs and a few file cabinets, but no signs of a door leading to a secret department. The trio searched around; looking for anything that could help them, but found nothing. Spike and Twilight were about to give up and start to search somewhere else, until Velvet walked behind the desk and instantly stopped; feeling something odd on the floor. Looking down, she tapped her foot down a couple of times and felt something hollow underneath her.
"Found something?" Spike asked.
"I think so." she answered; uncertain of what she found. "It feels hollow here for some reason." Twilight made her way behind the desk and kneeled down to feel the area.
"I think we might've found the door." she said before turning towards the desk where she started opening the drawers. Her mind started to think back to all the tv shows and movies she's seen throughout her life where there's always a secret panel hidden inside the desk that would be use to open the entrance to a secret room. Usually, it be silly to think that real life was just like the movies, but with everything they've seen, it wouldn't be too farfetched. Opening the top drawer on the right hand side, Twilight picked up some papers that were inside, and it was there she saw the panel; imbedded at the bottom. "Found it." she said. "Spike, give me the code." Placing the paper on the desk, Twilight took it and typed in the numbers. A sound went off and the floor shook before a large piece of it slid open; revealing a staircase going downwards. All three were amazed at what was in front of them. This was definitely something straight out of a movie. "Alright, i'll go get what we need, you two can stay here." Twilight suggested.
"Wait, what?" Spike started.
"I won't be long." she said cheerfully before heading down the stairs. Twilight wanted things to work out between her mother and Spike, so leaving them alone to talk just might be the best way for that to happen. She wasn't expecting them to put the past behind them or anything like that, but just a simple conversation would help.....hopefully. Twilight made to the bottom of the staircase and was now in a bright white room which felt like a warehouse due to how many shelves filled to the brim with advance medicine. As she walked down one of the isles, she took a look at the labels and saw that they were all in alphabetical order, which would make finding what she was looking for that much easier.
At the top, Spike and Velvet stood awkwardly next to each other; both of them remembering about last night's event. The pair remained silent for a while until a thought entered Spike's mind that caused him to chuckle a bit. "What's so funny?" she asked.
"Nothing, just thinking about how fucked everything is." he answered. "Ever since the world went to hell, we've been doing nothing but killing zombies and gang members, and if not that, then doing whatever we could to avoid a fight. It's getting worse out here everyday; wouldn't surprise me if they decided to just nuke the city sky high." Velvet was starting to get worried about Spike, especially his attitude about this whole situation. Usually, when someone starts chuckling like that, it's not a good sign. Taking a one step closer to him, she grabbed his hand and held it. "It'll be okay, once we're done with all of this, we can head to airport and hopefully put all this mess behind us." she said.
Spike looked over at her and received a warm smile. He was gonna smile back, but then thoughts of last night came rushing back to him like a freight train. His eyes traveled downward towards Velvet's breasts which caused her to blush a bit. She too started thinking about last night once again, and how that moment was the best she ever felt in a long time. Truth be told, she wouldn't mind doing it again with him again. "Spike?" she called in a soft tone; causing him to look her in the eyes. Once again there was silence between them as the stared at each other, then Velvet gave him a small nod; knowing he was thinking the same thing she was. Squeezing his hand, she walked with out of the office and into the hallway where leaned against the wall and brought both of his hand against her breasts. His male instincts was currently beating him over the head; telling him to go for it. Spike pulled both hands away causing Velvet to think that he was about to reject her, but that wasn't the case. Spike caught her off guard when he grabbed her shirt and lifted it up, along with her bra, and freed those large orbs of hers from their imprisonment. From there, he touched them directly; giving them a healthy grope before moving in and sucking on them.
Velvet closed her eyes and suppressed a moan as a jolt of pleasure shot through her. "Spike." she whispered before placing both hands on his head.
***************************
Down in the secret department, Twilight found the medicine she was looking for, but the problem was, it was high up on a top shelf. Finding a ladder wasn't easy. The place down here was massive; about the length of the entire store almost. When she was able to finally find one, she went back to the isle and climbed to the top. There were only three bottles there, so she just grabbed all of them. As she climbed down, she started to thinking about Spike and Velvet. "I hope they're at least talking to each other." she thought. "I'm not expecting Spike to straight up forgive everything that's happened, just....something." Reaching the floor, Twilight hurried out of the secret department; heading up the stairs and into the office where she saw that they weren't there. "Spike, Mom?" she called. Twilight walked towards the door, but before she could grab the knob, it was opened by Spike.
"Oh, you made it, got the medicine?" he said.
"Yeah, is everything okay?" she wondered.
"Course it is, we were just....talking." Spike answered. Twilight peeked over Spike and saw her mother standing in the hallway giving her a smile; having just fixed herself up. This in turned caused Twilight herself to smile as she got what wanted, they were talking to each other, and by the looks of it, it turned out well; unaware of what ACTUALLY happened, or rather, about to happen between them.
"We should get going." Velvet suggested. With a nod from Twilight, the trio headed out for the door, but when Spike opened it, he was met with a zombie standing in front of him. Immediately, he closed it, but not too hard.
"What the hell?" he said. "Where did that come from?!"
"You think we lured them here with the van?" Twilight asked.
"It's possible." Spike answered. Quietly and carefully, Spike opened the door and peeked out; taking in the entire scenery. The building was crawling with them. It reminded Spike of how it was back at the school which caused him to have an idea. Looking back at the other two, he placed a finger over his lips; telling them to keep quiet before taking a step out. Velvet was clearly against this, but Twilight had to hold her back and reassure her that Spike knew what he was doing.
Spike stayed against the wall and moved towards the far right side of the of building; keeping an eye on the zombies near him as well as the isles. Each one had as few of the undead beings either just standing there, or walking into each other. There were no openings, but there was an emergency exit; one that was sure to go off if he opened it. With no way to make it to the front, they would have to try their luck going out the side. Slowly, Spike started to make his way back to the hallway; trying his best to not alert the horde. Once he made it back, Velvet breathed a sigh of relief that nothing happened, but that relief wouldn't last.
"There's no way out." he said. "Our best bet, is the emergency exit."
"Won't it set off the alarm?" Twilight asked.
"Yeah, which is why we'll have to move fast." he said. "We open the door, and run like hell around the building to get to the van."
"What?!" said Velvet. She was understandably hesitant to go out there with all the zombies roaming about, but in actuality, they had no choice. Spike once again slowly walked back out, much to Velvet's anxiety, and looked around for something on the floor he could use. Settling on a bottle of sleeping medicine, he picked it up and chucked it as hard as he could to the opposite side of the building. It landed with a loud crash down one of the isles, which alerted the horde. One by one, they all started walking towards the direction the noise came from, and Spike couldn't help but think back to when he did the same thing at the school, but thankfully this time, there were only three of them and not an entire group to run the risk of someone messing up. The trio waited for a good portion of the undead to move over towards that one spot before making their move. Twilight held her mother's hand tightly as they stayed against the wall while quietly making it over to the exit door. Her anxiety grew with each passing second as more and more of the undead were walking passed them. She had never been this close to them, and just wanted to get as far away from them as soon as possible. Her heart rate started to increase along with the feeling of finding it hard to breathe. She knew she was about to have a panic attack, if she wasn't having one already.
After finally making it to the door, both Spike and Twilight readied themselves to fight; not knowing what was on the other side. "Ready?" he asked.
"No." Velvet said; as though she was about to start crying.
"When I open the door, just start running." he said. "And don't stop, not even for a second." Looking at the two of them, she couldn't figure out just how in the world were they not terrified. They were about leap head first into the unknown with no guarantee that there wasn't death on the other side. Were they THAT use to all of this? Velvet watched as Spike placed both hands on the door, and count down from 3 before pushing it open hard. The alarm was extremely loud and they had milliseconds to get outa of there. Twilight grabbed her mother's hand and ran out with her. Spike looked behind them and saw the horde heading straight for them. Quickly following after them, the trio were out of the building, but there was another problem. Right in front of them a larger horde of the undead began making their way over. Spike took point and opened fire on all of them; making enough for Twilight and Velvet to make through.
"GO GO GO!" he yelled. Both mother and daughter ran up head while Spike delivered cover fire. Once they were close enough, Twilight readied her weapon, and took out a few more in front of them. After doing that, both she and her mother began running alongside the building until they made to towards the front.
"Oh, come on!" Twilight said as now there was an even larger horde of zombies, not only in front of the of the store, but also around the van. Each one of them making they way towards them as the sound of the alarm was a massive dinner bell. Twilight saw an opening to their right, grabbed her mother, and they made their way through. The plan was since the zombies were heading towards the noise, they should get out of their way, but was going to be easier said then done since now, even more were appearing out of no where. The only chance they had was behind a truck parked next to the fence. As they hid, Spike finally came from around the building; taking out as many of the undead as he could. Once he made a clearing, he made his move; heading towards the van only to be stopped when he saw the horde. There was no way to get there, and he didn't see Twilight or Velvet anywhere, but they could see him. Velvet wanted to call him over, but was stopped by Twilight; doing so could give away their spot.
As Spike started to make his way in a random direction, an undead came from no where and grabbed him by the shirt, but he was able to yank away, although his shirt was now ripped. Grabbing his rifle, he fired into the creature's head, but soon found himself quickly surrounded. He fought back as hard as he could; shooting whatever was close to him, before switching to this axe and decapitating just as many. It seemed that whenever he take one down, three more would make an attempt to get at him. Meanwhile, both Twilight and Velvet watched in horror as one by one, the undead monsters started to swarm around him; each one reaching a hand out to get him. "Mom, stay here!" Twilight said as she rose to her feet. As soon as she did, Spike was grabbed by three of the undead; sending untold terror throughout both mother and daughter's bodies. Twilight screamed Spike's named and charged at the horde; frantically opening fire on them as he was brought to the ground.
Spike struggled to get free as their grip in him was too strong. They had him by the arms and neck and eventually his legs as well. Their grip tighten which made it very difficult to get free. One of them moved in for the deadly bite, but then something happened.....it stopped. Spike was able to open his eyes just in time to see the zombie slowly pull away from him. The grip they had on him loosened up as well. It was just like before. They grab him, then release him. He didn't have time to marvel at the situation as Twilight's screams was sure to call more of them. Once their grip was loose enough, Spike managed to kick one of them off of him before getting both arms free and grabbing his gun. He opened fire on them before rising to his feet, but it was them, somehow, even more were coming at them.
"No." said Velvet. "Please.....God help us."
*BOOOM*
A large sound caught everyone's attention, and that's when they all saw a military jeep come driving in from no where. Jumping out, was woman who waisted no time in opening fire on every single undead creature she lay her eyes on. "Rotor, get the civilians!" she yelled.
"On it!" he responded. Getting out out of the jeep, he first rushed over to Velvet and grabbed her by the hand. "Let's go!" he said before bringing her back to the vehicle. Twilight was able to kill a few more zombies before turning towards Spike.
"Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease!" she said as she made her way over to him. Despite the fact that his shirt was torn, he was okay; no signs of being bitten. "SPIKE!" she screamed before jumping into his arms and wrapping her legs around him.
"HEY, YOU TWO LOVEBIRDS, GET A MOVE ON!" yelled Rotor.
Everyone got over to the jeep and set off just as even more of the undead began heading towards them. In the back, both Twilight and Velvet clung onto Spike; hugging and kissing all over while letting out their emotions.
"Is anyone bitten?" asked Rotor.
"No, but who are you?" Spike asked.
"I'm Rotor, and this is my commanding officer, Fleur De Liz." he answered. "We're with the Self Defense Force task with finding as many survivors as he can."
"Once we're in a safe area, we'll call for a chopper to bring you all back to base." Fleur added.
"No wait, we have friends looking after a bunch of other survivors at a bank." Spike explained. "We only came here to find some medicine for the sick." Both Fleur and Rotor looked at each other and nodded. If there were other survivors out there, then they owed it them to rescue them. Spike told them the location of the bank and Fleur called it in.
"So tell me something, were you guys anywhere near the mall on the other side of town?" Fleur asked.
"Y-Yeah...we were there just yesterday." Twilight managed to answer while sniffling. This caused Fleur to turn back towards them. She had another question, and she hoped the answer was the one she wanted.
"Have you seen a woman named Cream Heart?" she asked. "She's a school nurse and a friend of mine."
Both Twilight and Spike looked at each other before looking back at Fleur. "Yeah, we know her." Spike answered. "We've been traveling together ever since all this started. In fact, she's at the bank waiting for us." That was all Fleur needed to hear. Without even needing to tell him, Rotor picked up the pace; nearly causing the trio to tumble over. Next stop, the bank, and a reunion Fleur has been waiting for.
