With their final year at CHS already underway, Sunset and her friends are hopeful for a relaxing and fun-filled sendoff to their high-school lives. However, as college preparations loom, the girls must confront not only a rising number of Equestrian magic occurrences, but also their own futures and friendships. For some, their worlds expand. For others, they intertwine. For Sunset, it's one more lesson on friendships and the many bonds that can grow from them.

Early into the fall season, a lengthy time apart begins to cause turbulence between Applejack and Rarity. Things only get worse, as the prospect of their paths ultimately diverging forces them to make sacrifices, endure pains, and even question the very nature of their relationship. In the end, what do they mean to each other, and will one of Equestria Girls' oldest friendships simply fray apart or become something far stronger?

As a latecomer fan of EG (longtime of FiM, though), I wanted to both honor the series and use the rather generous leeway of its non-finale to say goodbye in my own way. I'm hoping to make a grander tale out of a collection of smaller ones. If that is the case, I would call this first one "Love." But even if this is just a one-off, I hope it turns out well enough.
