Twilight held a book in her hooves. One she was afraid to look into, afraid of it because she knew what it was about. She knew what would happen if she looked into it and what its meaning was. Her hoof set it down on the table in the main room of the library. The other hoof gently opened up the cover page, she held her breath and closed her eyes.

"Spike, hurry, bring the picnic basket, I need to show you this amazing view!" Twilight motioned towards the direction she was heading in.
The reason for the long and winding trip through the multiple planes and acres of Ponyville was for a picnic for Spike that Twilight was hosting. She thought of it as a type of reward for all of the hard work he has done.
Not just the hard work he had done all week, or month, or year, but for him just being the number one assistant and best friend a mare could ask for.
"Twilight, I don't see what place could be so special that we have to walk for an hour."
"The reason this place is s special is because there is a significance to this one spot. This waterfall is a -"
"Waterfall?" Spike asked.
"Yes, this waterfall has a much more... magical meaning to it." Twilight galloped to the top of the hill with Spike behind her and pointed out that they were here.
The water raged off a high cliff into a dainty pool below. A rainbow shot out from the mist. The green trees surrounded them across the stream from which the waterfall's pool ran from.
"I still don't see why you couldn't have teleported us here," Spike huffed, lugging the picnic basket to the top and spreading out a blanket.
"I could if I would have, Spike, but this place is highly sensitive to most spells, especially teleportation."

Twilight opened the first page and looked in. What she saw was a baby dragon and a filly Twilight hugging each other in the parlor room of the Canterlot Royal Castle. Her big purple eyes stared into the camera, but the dragons were closed as if he was sleeping.
She smiled as memories were brought back from her early foalhood. She looked up to the stairs into her bedroom to see a dragon nestled up in the basket of a bed. The same purple and green dragon from the picture.
She thought about all the times she spent with Spike as he lied there.
She loved him like a brother and always would, even when that day when he gets too big...
And leaves.

They sat and ate their favorite foods on the blanket, looking at the water rushed downwards. It was a beautiful sight to look at.
"So, what is so special about this place anyways, Twilight?"
"Well, Spike, see all that water? Millions and millions of gallons rushing from two hundred feet off a smooth cliffside. They are said to be the tears of the Spirits of Harmony for every loved one they lost." Twilight returned.
"They must have had a lot of loved ones to make this much water."
"That's the point though, Spike. The whole world is their loved ones. Their is an ancient spell set around this entire area to add water to the waterfall, and take away some once it gets to filled up. It brings a new birth of a waterfall every two hundred years." Twilight explained.
"But, how long is it until that happens again?" Spike asked, swallowing a few gems.
Twilight looked up to the sky and checked the sun.
"In about twenty minutes."

Twilight went back to the book and turned a few pages ahead. The years passed by with the pages as they came to a halt somewhere a few years back before she left Canterlot.
In the picture was her brother, Spike, and herself. The three of them were fore arm in fore arm. They were standing in front of the tower Twilight's room was located in. The Royal Library could be seen from a distance.

"Okay, that's gonna' turn out to be a good one!" Spike exclaimed as the blinding flash simmered down. They were on their way back from lunch with each other, and they were saying goodbye to Shining Armor.
They made their way to the Library and started talking about how there day was.
"So, Spike, where have you been since lunch?"
"Just reorganizing the books in the Library just the way you like it." Spike looked to his feet as he kicked rock along the cobblestone.
"Spike, you're so sweet!" she exclaimed as they continued down the road. Spike blushed as he looked down, losing the rock he was dribbling after kicking it a bit too hard when Twilight said 'sweet'.
"I even went over the history category three times, arranging them by page number and author."
"That's perfect! Spike, you always know what I like, I really am lucky to have you here with me," she said as she rubbed the scales on the top of his head.
"Well, I'm glad that you treat me like a pony, not a pet. I've heard stories of how dragons are captured at birth from their parents and are forced into slavery down in mines!"
"Trust me, Spike," she said, "you won't be heading to any mine."
"Twilight, the only mine I want is the one with a trillion delicious gems!" he smiled.
"Didn't you just eat? You must have quite an appetite," she laughed.
They made it to the doors of the Library. The main room was filled with colorful books arranged to her liking.
"I can't believe the Summer Sun Celebration is the day after tomorrow!" Spike said hesitantly, walking around the room, gazing at Twilight.
"I know, It's so exciting, it even gets better every year!" Twilight said, looking around.
"Twilight, what are you looking for?"
"Just a book that I can go out and read. I think I'm going to go relax outside for a bit... Ah! Here's the one."
She grabbed a book and trotted out the door.
"Bye Spike!"
"See you, Twi," he waved.
She trotted away with that book in her hands, with the first story entitled; 'The Mare in the Moon'.

That day was... Eventful, and eventful can be described in many ways. That was the day Twilight made friends, six of them, and defeated Nightmare Moon.
After thinking about it for a second, Twilight realized something as she sat there in front of the book. If it wasn't for Spike organizing all the books, she never would have found the story, and she never would have been aware of Nightmare Moon's return, which means she wouldn't have been prepared for her raid on Ponyville, so they would have lost the fight between her, and Nightmare Moon would rule for all eternity!
So that meant...
Spike saved the world without him even knowing it.

"Ten more minutes, Spike," Twilight said with a mouthful of her sandwich.
"I can't wait, Twilight, I really want to thank you for this," Spike explained, having gotten over his nagging of the long walk.
"Please, Spike, this picnic is for you. I should be the one doing the thanking."
"For me, what did I do?" he asked. She couldn't blame Spike for not knowing what the picnic was truly for, mostly because Spike didn't really look at his helpfulness as if it was helping out for a cause, but more like his job.
"For everything, Spike. Literally, everything. You have been the biggest help I could ever have asked for, nopony could ever replace you, and I want you to know that," she hushed in a soft tone.
"Twilight," Spike became scared, "you sound like your letting me go, is that true?"
Twilight was taken over by alarm, afraid she was giving of the wrong vibes.
"What?! No, of course not, Spike. It's just that... Well, you and I both know that one day, I will have to. I just want to build up some memories for us so we will never forget."
"Twilight, I will never forget out times we have spent. That day will not happen for years and years. I'm still technically a baby dragon, we have all the time in the world to build memories, together."
The mist of the waterfall was being blown over their heads, casting a faint glow. Twilight's eyes slowly filled with crystal tears and her lips quivered with sadness and happiness.
"Oh, Twilight, don't cry, don't even think about it," Spike tried to keep a calm structure, but he was a big softie and would cry if anypony around him was crying. He managed to keep his structure, tears were beginning to fill his eyes, and they burned his scales, as dragon tears would do.
Twilight leaned in and hugged him as Spike's tears dripped down onto her fur, and Spike tried to pull away.
"Twilight, don't they hurt?" he asked.
"Just let them, Spike. Building memories... Right?"
"Right."
The embrace lasted for a few more seconds, the they were thrown into an awkward situation of 'what just happened?' and 'what time is it?'.
The silence was scary, but it only made the things around them seem louder, like the environment was coming alive and the Elements were watching them. Two best friends, out on a picnic.

Twilight grabbed the stack off photos from their most recent visit and put them in the book. She hadn't told Spike about the book yet, even though she had been keeping it for a few months now. She found a box of old photos and picked out the ones with Spike and her in them.
She hadn't come up with a title for the book yet, but she wanted it to be original.
After about an hour into the the night, she could only come up with one word, but it was the most unoriginal title ever; 'Friendship'.
She felt bad that she couldn't come up with a name for it, but then she tried thinking outside of the box, and looked at the word again.
Friendship, unoriginal? Maybe, but the entire concept of friendship... Was it really ever unoriginal? Each friendship is never unoriginal, because it has never been done before. All six of her friends have different friendships because they have different likes, different motivations, but they all tie in like a web of love.
Spike's friendship was especially original because they have been friends since he was born. Ever since he hatched and they looked into each other's eyes, life was going to be good between them.
No matter what happens, Twilight would always appreciate him.

"Look, Spike, the water, it's going down."
The water swirled in the center of the pool and slowly lowered as they looked down. As Twilight looked over the cliff, tears from her eyes quickly dripped into the pool.
"Twilight, your tears!"
"I know, Spike... I guess I'm part of the waterfall now."
Spike leaned over and his tears dripped in as well, causing steam to arise in the air.
"I'm sure the Elements would accept me as well," Spike said, smiling to Twilight.

Twilight went back upstairs and looked at Spike as he yawned. She smiled, walked over and kissed his forehead while he hugged his blanket.
"Hmm, Tw- Twilight," he mumbled, still asleep.
She chuckled to herself and went downstairs. She closed the book, levitated a quill over and wrote on the cover;
To my best friend, Spike
Love Twilight
Then she wrote the title underneath; Friendship.
She pasted one last photo on the cover, one with them looking over the waterfall together, then she put it away underneath the floorboards where he couldn't find it.
These were all going to be great stories to tell to each other when he woke up in the morning. Spike was right, they had all the time in the world.
"This is going to be great," she grinned.
And she went to her bed and drifted off to sleep.
Next to her best friend.
