It was a Tuesday and Scootaloo was getting ready for her fourth attempt at the driver’s test. She had failed the test three times already and she was not happy about that.
“I can’t fail the test again!” Scootaloo said. The other Canterlot Movie Club members agreed that it would be really bad if she failed the test again. The third time wasn’t the charm, but surely the fourth time would be the charm!
“Okay, so I just need to hold the steering wheel like this,” Scootaloo said, and she put her hands on the steering wheel. She was in a simulation of a car that her parents bought for her with some of their exploring money. It was a fun game sometimes, but it was also helpful for studying for a driver’s test.
“No, I think you need to hold it like this,” Sweetie Belle said. She was in the simulation, too. She showed Scootaloo the other way to hold it, but Scootaloo wasn’t sure if she should trust her because Sweetie Belle had also failed her driver’s test three times.
They started arguing about how to hold the wheel and then Apple Bloom corrected them both and said, “You need to hold it this way.” She held the wheel the right way because she had passed her test the first time and then they all understood how they were supposed to hold the wheel.
“Okay, and then you hit the gas like this and you steer like this,” Scootaloo said. Apple Bloom nodded. Scootaloo was good with the actual driving part. She had just been failing her test because she held the wheel the wrong way, and also because she ran into a mailbox one time even though that wasn’t her fault.
“Yay, you are going to pass the test now for sure! And then we will celebrate with milkshakes at Sugarcube Corner!” Apple Bloom said to Scootaloo. Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom gave Scootaloo a hug and then Scootaloo left to go to her driving test. Her parents weren’t home to take her, so she had to walk because she wasn’t able to drive yet.
“Wait a minute. I should have asked Apple Bloom to drive me there,” Scootaloo said. But she was already halfway there and she had forgotten to bring her cell phone, so she had no way to call Apple Bloom and ask her to pick her up. But it was okay. She saw a dog on the way there, and then she got to the place where the driver’s test was.
“Okay, I’m here to take my driver’s test,” Scootaloo said. She was nervous that she might fail the driver’s test for a fourth time. Her horoscope had said she would have bad luck, and it would be very bad luck to fail the test again!
“Good, just wait there and then you can take the test soon,” the person at the driver’s test place said, and pointed at a seat.
Scootaloo sat down in the chair that the person had pointed at and then realized that she was sitting on something else, too. She reached into her back pocket and found that her iPhone was broken because she had been sitting on it.
“No, not my iPhone!” Scootaloo said, and she was very sad about the fact that her iPhone was broken. She was having bad luck just like her horoscope said!
“Actually, I don’t think I will take the test today after all,” Scootaloo said to the person at the desk at the driver’s test place.
“Are you sure?” the person at the desk said. “You will have to wait three months to take it again if you don’t take it today. We are booked for a long time!”
“Okay, I guess I will take the test today,” Scootaloo said. Her friends were counting on her to pass the test so that they could have milkshakes at Sugarcube Corner.
A few minutes later, a person came to have her take the test. “Come on, it’s time to take the test,” the person said.
Scootaloo gulped because she was very nervous. “I don’t want to fail the test,” she said. The person who was going to administer the test said that it was okay and that she probably wouldn’t fail the test.
They got in the car and buckled up because it’s very important to always use your seat belt! (Don’t ever forget to use your seatbelt when you ride in a car and make sure that everyone else in the car uses their seatbelt, too!)
Then Scootaloo panicked because she didn’t remember how she was supposed to put her hands on the wheel. “Oh, no!” she thought. “I don’t know what to do now.” The person who was giving the driver’s test clicked his tongue while he was waiting for her to do something, and she looked at him nervously. He had a nametag that said “Cranky Doodle” and then she remembered that he was her teacher at school.
That gave her confidence because she was good at school and then she was able to put her hands on the wheel correctly, just like Apple Bloom had shown her. He nodded in approval, and then she started driving.
Ten minutes later, she was back at the beginning of the test and Cranky was writing her score on a piece of paper. She was nervous because of her horoscope and she thought that it might hurt her grades at school, too, if she had done badly in front of her teacher. But she felt pretty good about how she had driven, because she hadn’t run into a mailbox or anything, and that was good.
“Alright,” Cranky said, and he put his pencil back in his pocket. “You passed the test!”
“Yay!” Scootaloo said, and she skipped out of the car and got her license from the machine back at the building. The machine was shaped like a chicken for some reason, maybe because the chicken crossed the road and now she could cross the road, too, but in a car!
She heard a honk from outside the building and saw that her mom was there. “I passed the test!” she said, and her mom let her drive all the way to Sugarcube Corner, which was three whole blocks away.
“I did it!” she told her friends, and then they all had milkshakes together.
