On your fifth birthday, you only got one gift from your parents. It’s one of the most expensive gifts they’ve ever bought for you. When you open it and see what’s inside, it’s a pony who’s around the same age as you are. You wanted either a dog, a parrot or a fish, but a pony was something you never expected your parents to buy you on your birthday. However you’re not judgemental and are given something that surpasses your expectation.
When the pony came out from the box and saw you for the first time, she smiled. All she ever wanted in her life was to be with somebody who truly cares about her. She jumped out of the box and nuzzled your chest. You weren’t prepared for the first action of the filly, but just like a puppy, you adored being nuzzled by any animal.
You wrap your arms around the pony which made her heart warm. “Mom, Dad, you're the best!” You cheered.
“Thank you.” Your mother responded.
“What are you going to name your pet?” Your father wondered.
After hearing that important question, you broke the hug from the filly. “Rara. I’m gonna name my pet, Rara.”
Your pony begins jumping around in excitement. “Oh! I love that! Rara is a great name!” She then gave you another hug much tighter than before.
Over the next weeks, months and years, your relationship with Rara continued to grow. While you take her to the schools you go to, on occasions you take her on all the field trips and let’s not forget about all the moments you had with her. Giving her singing lessons, making special desserts for your friends and always sleeping with her during bedtime. Life never could get anymore better between you and the one and only pet you have.
It’s been twenty long years. You’ve graduated from high school, succeeded in college and have enough money to rent an apartment. Not only that, your pony also grew up as a respectful pet who is thankful you decided to take her in. However due to your full time job getting in the way, Rara spends most of the time in your apartment than doing anything else. She’s mostly depressed, but she is starting to do her hobbies on her own like singing one of her favorite songs and watching movies on your TV.
However even when you and her are apart, you’ve done everything you can to support your pet ever since day one. After you're finished work, you headed to the mall to do some shopping. While it did take you an hour, you knew you needed it for Rara. It’s your twentieth anniversary with the pet you kept for so long, even if today is your birthday again, you decide to skip it just for Rara.
The sun sets over the apartments as you park your car. Once you get out, you head to the back and take out the gifts you bought. The moment couldn’t get anymore better once Rara sees what you got.
Inside your apartment, Rara is laying on your couch. She wasn’t in the mood to sing after doing that for so many months. She’s been waiting for an hour and a half just to see you again. Her feelings felt less empty after you got employed at your job, while she stayed in a room of silence.
When you opened your apartment door, it caused Rara’s ear to perk up and turn her attention towards you. “Oh finally!” She replied. “You didn’t tell me you were working overtime this morning.”
“Actually I wasn’t working overtime.” You responded as you placed the gifts on the table. When Rara realised what was going on, she got off the sofa and walked up to you in the kitchen.
“You were shopping?” She asked.
“Yes. Before you ask, no, these aren't my birthday gifts.”
“Then...who are they for?” Rara sitting on one of the chairs.
“For you.”
Rara found it hard to believe. She did receive gifts from you, but on her actual birthday which was two months ago. As you headed to the refrigerator, you take out one of your water bottles.
“Why did you decide to buy me gifts instead of you?” Rara asked, looking at the presents on the table.
“Because this is the twentieth anniversary of you being my one and only pet.” You took a seat while opening the cap. “Besides, I’ve had better birthdays over the years, so I thought this was the time that we should celebrate our anniversary together.”
The pony on the other side of the table didn’t think you would warm her heart anymore, but you still got the touch. Rara gave a sweet smile as you handed her the first gift. “Come on, open your first gift.”
Rara grabs the gift from your hands and begins to unwrap it. With it being the biggest you brought from the mall, you wanted Rara to wear something fancy, due to her interest in pop-stars that she listens to on a daily basis.
Once she saw the box, it’s revealed to be a cerulean sheer bodysuit with crystal embellishments. “I know you expect me to buy something with more colors, but I’m not as into pop music like you are. There weren’t a lot of outfits for ponies.” You said, as you took a drink from your water.
Rara looked at the outfit after she unboxed it. She not only loved it, but also adored the crystal design. “This looks perfect for an award show.” She commented. “Glad you picked the right color.”
“Hey, I always think of you, even when I’m at work.” You laugh. You took the gift from Rara and placed it by the closet on the ground. Then Rara took another gift from the table, she ripped the wrapping paper off and it’s revealed to be a bag of birthday cookie dough. “I know we didn’t have the time to bake a cake, so I decided to buy this instead.”
“It’s fine, after all we’ve baked cookies in the past. I still let you pick the flavor.” Rara looking at the bag.
As you put the bag full of dough inside the refrigerator, keeping it fresh and healthy for later, the third gift Rara took is the cheapest you bought from the mall. Once she opened it, it’s two saddle bags for ponies like her to carry around. “Oh thank you, you have no idea how hard it is to carry the supplies myself.”
“Well technically, me and my family helped you, you just stay in your seat in the car and wait.”
Rara blushed in embarrassment after her times she came along with you during field trips. “Guess I should try to put this into good use.”
She slightly pushed the saddle bag out of the way and opened her fourth gift. While you’re not into pop music like her, you do know what songs and singers she loved as she got older. When she opened the gift, it’s a five CD box set featuring one of the most famous singers of the modern age.
“Oh my goodness!” She reacted in joy. “I can’t believe you brought this for me!”
“Hey, I know your passion for music so now you can listen to these without the use of Wi-Fi.”
Rara had never felt so happy in such a long time. When life becomes complicated, there’s always a breath of fresh air to take a break once in a while and receive something nice. While you wanted to give her more, you didn’t want to spend all of your savings. However there’s one more gift for Rara, the gift she couldn’t do earlier, due to the laws of allowing animals to enter a movie theater. She had to wait until the movie came out on Blu-Ray and digital download just to watch it for the first time. And with your knowledge of how much she loves music, the final gift will show how much you support her.
Once Rara took the final gift, she unwraps it and once she saw the reveal from the front, her jaw dropped. When it comes to animated movies, Disney is one of her favorites, especially the movie Frozen. The gift you bought that just came out today is the Blu-Ray of Frozen II.
“Yes! I knew this movie would come out right away!” She smiled as she looked at the back of the cover.
“I was also surprised, given that the movie made more money then the last one.” You replied.
“Oh thank you! I can’t wait to watch this movie!”
As much as you wanted her to watch the movie right now, there’s one more thing you needed to do. You got up from your chair, made your way by Rara as you get on your knees. With your eyes on Rara, you see that your pet is also giving you her adorable cerulean eyes. It’s been that way during your childhood, but in your mid twenties, you never let that go, but kelp it to a minimum.
“Rara. We’ve been together for twenty years. So much just isn’t enough. If anyone went through my footsteps of getting a pony as a pet like you, they would have the best time like I have.”
You then took out your phone to pull up your photos. You showed Rara all the moments she had with you. “We may have to move forward in life, but I will still do everything in my power to keep you. My parents gave me something so important to me, I won't allow you to lose something so important, and that is me. This anniversary is something we can always do, even if my birthday’s today, I will never leave you in the dark. That’s how much I care about you.”
Your pet begins to shed tears in pure happiness. While she knew you would never leave her, she always wanted to hear that. “My heavens.” She spoke with her sweet tone. Then she closed her eyes and pressed her lips on your cheek. You never expected her to kiss you, this is the first time she’s ever done that and she wasn’t into romance with any of the ponies she met.
She backed away while you were still kneeling, stun in silence. “This is something I’ve wanted to give you for a while, but I just wasn’t ready until now.” She blushed.
You place your hand on the cheek she kissed. You couldn’t help but like how Rara has warmed up to you over her years. “I think you were ready a long time ago.” You smiled. You then pick her up from her chair and give her a hug. “Let me put the movie in so you can watch it. I’ll make the cookies for both of us in the meantime.”
“Oh come on, I can still help you. I don’t want you to do all the work, we can watch the movie after the cookies are finished.”
While you wanted Rara to feel satisfied today, it’s been years since you and Rara made cookies together. Just like childhood, you and Rara work together and have a night-time snack while watching Frozen II.
