That's my Boy
A Long Talk
Load Full StoryNext ChapterShining stretched out lazily on his couch. He had just gotten home from his afternoon patrol, and was planning to take a nap. A quick look around his quarters revealed that he was a terrible housekeeper. His bed was unmade, the couch had various stains on it, and crumbs and garbage littered the floor. He could easily clean it up of course, since he was a unicorn, but he only did that when he had to. It's not like he had to worry about somepony nagging him, since he was a bachelor. Just as he was beginning to nod off, there was a loud knock at the door. Shining sat erect on the couch as he heard it, using magic to turn on the nearby floor lamp. "Who is it?"
A very familiar voice he knew and loved answered in an almost sing-songy fashion. "It's me Shiny!" Shining quickly jumped off the deflated couch, a wide grin spread across his face as he trotted over to the door, avoiding the piles of trash along the way. He would have to clean up the direct path from the door to his couch...
As the door swung open, there stood a white unicorn mare with a lavender striped mane. Her eyes were a vibrant blue, wide and sparkling like her teeth, which bore a wide grin. "Mom!" Shining wrapped his hooves around his mother, giving her an affectionate nuzzle. "I didn't expect to be seeing you!" Mrs.Sparkle returned the gesture and patted her son's back. "Oh I just figured you'd be lonely all by yourself for so long..." She looked over his shoulder at the mess of a room Shining called his home. "And... it looks like you could use some help with cleaning too mister." Shining broke the hug, the white fur on his cheeks turning a light pink as he rubbed the back of his head. "Heheh... yeah... I didn't really have time to prepare..."
Mrs.Sparkle shook her head and 'tsk'd', making her way further into the room. "Me and your father taught you better than that I thought..." Using magic, she lifted one of the deflated and torn couch cushions, revealing a large amount of cockroaches. She screeched and dropped the cushion back into its original position, putting a hoof to her pounding chest. "We... we definitely need to clean this place up..." Shining laughed at his startled mother and started levitating some garbage into a black bag. "Alright mom, alright... so how have you and dad been doing?" Mrs.Sparkle began filling her own bag with garbage as she spoke, still a bit shaken from the cockroaches. "Well, to be honest we've been better. Your father seems to be away a lot more nowadays with his new job..." She seemed to be thinking about something, but quickly shook it off and resumed cleaning.
"Oh? Well, that doesn't seem like fun... well I've been pretty lonely nowadays too mom, seeing as you're the first pony to set hoof in my quarters in about six months." Mrs.Sparkle raised an eyebrow at his statement. "Really now? I'd think you'd have a lady friend to bring over, no?" Shining blushed a light crimson, lifting the bag and hiding behind it. "M-mom, you know I've been single ever since High School..." Mrs.Sparkle giggled as she trotted up next to him, giving a nudge. "Oh come on Shiny, I was only teasing. I didn't expect you to have a marefriend." Shining frowned and lowered the bag. "Oh yeah mom, that's gonna help with my self esteem." They both started laughing as they prepared to tackle the couch.
"Well, I'm sure there are lots of mares that would love you. You're a sweet, handsome young stallion!" She placed a hoof on his cheek, which Shining quickly pushed away with an impatient groan. "Mo-om..." She giggled as they lifted the cushion, quickly using a spell to freeze the cockroaches so they could be disposed of. "Don't tell me you're still embarrassed to be around me!" Mrs.Sparkle pouted and sat beside the couch. Shining rolled his eyes and put the disabled bugs into the bag. "I've never been embarrassed by you mom, it's just I don't want you feeding me compliments, especially ones like that." Mrs.Sparkle stood up and nuzzled him. "Aw, but that's my job Shiny!" Shining smiled and gave her a hug, looking around the room with a satisfied look. "I think we did a good job cleaning."
Mrs.Sparkle nodded and let go of Shining, having a seat on the couch and motioning for him to sit beside her, and he obliged. "So what else is new in the guard?" Shining stretched out his front hooves with a yawn. "Nothing too interesting... we got some new recruits the other day, that's always fun." Mrs.Sparkle tapped her hoof on the arm of the couch. "I see..." She looked up at him expectantly, and he gave her a confused stare. "What?" She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Aren't you going to offer your mother a drink?" He quickly hopped out of his seat. "Oh, I didn't know you were thirsty! What would you like?" He trotted over to his fridge. "I've got some soda... some milk... orange juice... and a bottle of wine." Mrs.Sparkle thought for a moment before calling out to her son.
"I haven't had wine in a good long while, why don't you pour us each a glass of that?" Shining returned a few moments later levitating two glasses of wine, and the bottle, which he set on the table. Mrs.Sparkle picked her glass up and swirled the dark red liquid inside before sipping it. "Oh, this is very good! Who makes this?" Shining turned the bottle. "Hoofington Vineyards." Mrs.Sparkle nodded before taking a slightly longer sip. "Hey hey, slow down mom! You know what happened last time you had too much to drink. I know I do." They both laughed nervously and blushed in a shockingly similar manner as Shining took a sip, clearing his throat. "So... you say dad leaves you alone a lot?" She nodded with a soft sigh. "Yeah... we haven't really had any time together in a few months... he hardly even speaks to me anymore..." She took another long sip, as did Shining as he refilled her almost empty glass.
"I'm sure you two will be fine, you've been through things like this before." Mrs.Sparkle looked at him, and he gazed into her blue, sparkling eyes. Both began to blush, and Shining quickly looked away, sipping his wine again. Careful now Shining... you aren'y THAT drunk yet, and neither is she. Mrs.Sparkle, on the other hand, continued looking up at Shining. "You know... you look just like your father when you do that..." Shining mumbled inaudibly, and Mrs.Sparkle giggled, reaching up at his cheek. "Oh come now Shining, I married your father didn't I? I wouldn't have done that if I didn't think he was amazing. You're just like him... you'll find a mare someday." Shining slowly turned, looking down at his smiling mother. He drained the rest of his glass, and both ponies set them down.
"You... really think so mom?" They shifted so they were sitting in a manner that they faced each other completely, and Mrs.Sparkle nodded, placing her other hoof on his shoulder. "I'm being completely honest." Shining sensed her eagerness, and he gulped nervously. Last time they'd looked at each other like that, they were both intoxicated, and what happened after that was something he would never share. Mrs.Sparkle blinked and tilted her head to the side a bit, pulling herself up and inching her lips closer to his. We're not even drunk yet... and she's doing it. Maybe... maybe she's wanted this just as much as I have secretly... or maybe I'm just going crazy...
Shining slowly shut his eyes and his lips met hers, each tasting the sweet, tart taste of the wine that lingered on the other's lips. Shining's hoof drifted to her neck, and the other drifted down her side, resting on her back, just above her tail. She shifted once more, her lower body resting just before his. She pressed her warm chest against his, feeling his heart beat against it, her own heart rate began to increase. Her eyes were shut tight and her body shivered as she kissed her son passionately, and he kissed her back. They broke the kiss after a few moments, taking some deep breaths and blushing a deep crimson as they sat on the couch, chest to chest.
The only question now was... how far was this going to take them?
