You Will Remember My Name
You're Probably Wondering How I Got Here...
Load Full StoryNext ChapterIt was dark and raining in the alleyway, a mere ten feet separated me and the unfortunate soul who was currently laying against the wall, begging and pleading me for his life. I was never a fan of cliches and unfortunately this was one of the biggest. It wasn’t by choice of course, the man forced me to give chase and, again unfortunately, I didn’t exactly have the stamina of a runner.
“Please, I have a family, a wife and child,” the man pleaded. Perhaps it was due to it being dark, but the man couldn’t tell I was just a high schooler, probably not even that I was girl. He was just staring at the gun in my hand pointing right at his head.
“Bullshit, you don’t have any kids and your wife left you a month ago.” Another thing was that my face was concealed by a mask with a built-in voice changer. “Not that I can blame her actually…”
“W-What is it you want? Money? I have plenty, you don’t have to do this!”
“I don’t want your money, I’ve already taken enough of it. This is a job, nothing personal.” Well, that wasn’t entirely true. After reading this guy’s background, I declared him a real scumbag. No one would miss him. Still, I was putting a lot of bravado in my voice but truthfully I was getting anxious. I never killed a person before, but the people who assigned me this mission knew that. That’s all it was, a test.
“Don’t worry though, you’ll get your fifteen minutes on the news, but after that everyone will forget about you.” I couldn’t wait any longer, if I did, I don’t think I would be able to do it. My muscles stiffened and I pulled my finger against the trigger.
The shot rang out and normally it would’ve made me jump but all I could do was stare at the man’s head, or what was left of it anyway. My hands started to shake as the gun fell out of my hand and I felt my legs give out before I suddenly started vomiting.
It wasn’t always like this. Up until a year ago, I was just a normal girl, going to school, being ignored, enjoyed gardening, nothing unusual there. But then I realized I had talents elsewhere and I wanted to make people notice me. It was only then that they showed up.
One year ago…
I didn’t come from a wealthy family and as such I didn’t stick out. In fact, hardly anyone ever noticed me. I was just your typical bland student. After all, if you weren’t interesting, why bother acknowledging you?
Oddly enough it didn’t bother me, or perhaps I had just gotten used to it. Of course, it had its downsides as well. I thought people were just ignoring me, but in reality it was like they didn’t even know I was even there. I suppose the name Wallflower truly is appropriate. And it wasn’t just the students, but the teachers as well. If I said nothing, they would actually mark me absent.
Though I shouldn’t say it was all people. My mom always acknowledged me and to me, she was really the only friend I had. No matter all the negative thoughts I had, she kept me steered in the right direction. It was just the two of us at home. I didn’t know my dad: apparently he walked out on Mom when I was still an infant. It was hard on both of us but Mom was strong, even if she had to take two jobs to make ends meet.
One day, I made a decision. I was going to find a profession that would land me a ton of money and with it I was going to pay back my mom for all the sacrifices she made. The only question was, what was it going to be?
Now, I really like gardening. I mean, I really love gardening. Unfortunately, having a green thumb didn’t get you much for careers. But there was one thing I noticed at a young age. Going back as far as elementary school, I loved computers. At the time, we were just limited to learning games and such but as I got older and got introduced to word documents, spreadsheets, and Powerpoint presentations, I realized something I liked and something I was good at (other than gardening, obviously).
Once I got into high school, the real challenge began. Coding was a whole different subject and as my teacher often said, it was like learning a new language, except it was only words communicated between a computer and a program. I won’t lie, it took me a little more time to get the hang of everything, but in time once again I was outmatching most of my classmates.
At that point, I realized what I could do. IT jobs were not only in huge demand but they paid handsomely as well. I could work for some large security firms and then who knows, maybe I could even get a job working with the government. With that kind of money, Mom and I could live a much more luxurious life.
Of course, that had been my plan initially, but as you can probably tell, it didn’t go the way I initially thought. No; Fate, as I started to believe, had other plans in store for me. And it all started when I met her, a girl that would ultimately change my life completely. I can still remember that day completely.
It was a regular school day and I was in my computer programming class. To be specific, it was the secondary level of the class I took last semester and appropriately, the difficulty had been cranked up. Still, once you get the basics, the advanced stuff comes a little more naturally.
I must’ve been glued to my screen for I didn’t even hear her approach me. “Excuse me, Wallflower Blush?”
I looked at her and upon seeing her I could instantly tell she was not part of my class. Actually, I didn't recognize her at all. The fact that she was even addressing me was odd, which made me both confused and slightly concerned. “Y-Yes?” I asked. Damn introvertedness…
“I don’t believe we’ve met. My name is Dahlia and I wanted to ask you something. Perhaps we could talk at the end of the day?”
Author's Note
Funny story: I was originally going to introduce this character of Wallflower Blush in my Persona fic but...well I got impatient. This was and still will be an origins story and while the story itself may seem slightly OOC for her, I can promise her personality will still remain in character.
~~Also if it wasn't obvious, I really do like Wallflower Blush.~~
