Chapter 1: The Storm Before the Hurricane
It was dry windy day in the dusty city of Griffonstone with a dust storm roaring through the town. Most griffons will huddle their homes or fight the rocky winds, or, for one young griffon, embrace it.
“Suffer! Burn!” The teen worshipped the blowing winds and pulverized rock.
“Yeah!” He continued as he went to the sandy grounds and wrote: ‘Gallus was here’ before it blew away.
The blue and tan griffon looked at the spot he just wrote in moments ago before laughing.
“Ahh...! Living the life!” He laughed out before limping over to a nearby sigh on the verge of falling over near the side of a road.
‘Welcome to Griffonstone!’ It says. ‘All is welcome’ It claims. ‘Enjoy your stay!’ It lies.
“What a load of bullshit.” Gallus said being mugged by the winds and he approached the supports for the sign.
“Time to make things right!” Gallus exclaimed one glee as he pushed over the sign to the bare ground.
“There! Better!” Gallus smiled as he started to drag the beaten down sign towards Griffonstone.
He passed a cactus on the way over to which he stopped what he was doing and cut it and dragged it on the sign with him.
As he made his approach into Griffonstone that was as equally dusty as Gallus’ frail self, he felt the sensation of something landing near his wings.
He turns around to see a vulture peaking lost ruins that was his wings.
“Get out of here?!” Gallus swatted at the vulture which flew away from his talons.
“Look at me! I’m a scary skeleton!” Gallus sung in the general direction of the Vulture. His remark wasn’t to far from the truth.
He went back to limping away with the sign and cactus in town towards Griffonstone.
Gallus dragged himself into town center and quickly found lone, helpless noble fighting the winds and dust that blanketed the field.
“Perfect.” Gallus ‘whispered’ as he approached the noble.
“Having a good day sir?” Gallus asked over the wind.
“Wha-?” But the noble didn’t have time to react when Gallus whacked her with his cactus.
“I take this as a no, sir, your husband will be disappointed.” He joked with the now unconscious noble as he dragged her to a corner and looked through her purse.
“Let’s see, currency, jewelry, some medication, I’ll take it!” Gallus exclaimed as he took the entire purse with his cactus before putting them on the sign an dragging away in the same fashion as earlier.
He didn’t even get about 100 feet away from the alley way before trouble appeared from the blue.
“What are you doing here?!” A male voice yelled from a passing valley; it was dark in there and yet, so close to home. Gallus sighed.
“I was going to the store and-!” A female panicked but was cutoff.
“In this weather?! What a load of bullshit!” An abusive male voice yelled back.
“Can we just saddle this is peace?!”
“Nope.”
*BANG*
“Problem solved bitch, now my turn.”
*BANG*
Gallus sighed; this is the third murder suicide this week in the upper end area alone.
Shaking it off, he dragged out of the upper estates and into the dump, literally and figuratively. The houses were surrounded by litter and there were a lot of piles of rubbish with who knows how many bodies in the bags. This is where Gallus called home.
“Hey!” A familiar voice called to Gallus. “Do you have the item?”
“Yes, I do bitch.” Gallus have the unknown griffon the cactus and in return, a bag of powder.
“That will be it for today, tomorrow I want you to-.” But was cut off by the slitting of his throat.
“No thanks.” Gallus wiped his talons on the corpse in front of him as he dragged it into a dumpster full of items that will anyone faint.
Gallus continued to move at his snail like pace as he walked down the empty road as he passed several corpses of various things being eaten on by nature. His walk was interrupted by a sandy newspaper blowing into his face.
“What the-?” Gallus exclaimed as he grabbed the paper and read it:
‘WANTED ALIVE: Gallus
By The Kingdom of Griffonstone.’
“Good luck on that shit heads.” He let go of the flyer before continuing his way forwards.
Gallus made it to his house if you can call it that, a narrow alley way the dead ends on one end.
“Finally, out of the shit and into peace.” Gallus sighed as he entered his home turf from the harder than ever sandstorm.
He propped the sign up on one of the walls and lay under the sign from the elements. He then started to reflect his life while resting on his cactus with his powder bag next to him.
“If I could only dredge my life to become deeper than it is now.” Gallus sighed as he looked over to the bag. “Let’s get this over with.”
He reached over to the bag and then opened it to pull out a knife from the powder.
“Knife or drugs? Knife.” He nodded before pointing it at his chest.
“It could be over right now. I just need to...” He hesitated as his talons wobbled and then fell by gravity onto the floor.
“Maybe.” He sighed as he picked up the knife again, this time towards his wrist.
“This will be close enough.” He concluded before clenching his talon, dropping his knife, and then crying.
“This is not fair!” Gallus cried out as he hit the roof with his bad wrist.
“Can my life be anything but my pile of shit I have?!” He cried into his jungled wings.
“Even my wings bear the pain.” He shuttered at the memory of that painful day.
“For all my days I’ve been on Earth, I’ve only known pain but tomorrow, I’ll embrace it.” He then cried to himself to sleep.
Gallus ran impossibly fast speeds as his ditched and dodged around the fiery world around him.
“Gallus!” A female voice called from behind him. “Come back!”
“No!” His young voice yelled back as he continued to run like hell.
“You would be a good masseuse!”
“No!” He repeated as the floor started to crumble beneath his talons and paws.
“Come back!” The voice asked softly as Gallus fell to his demise.
Gallus fell, and fell, and fell into the unknown as his limbs flailed outwards in panic.
Suddenly as the falling began, Gallus noticed that he was slowing but, he didn’t.
“What the-?” Gallus asked as his fall seemed to cease all together as he floated in the vast darkness.
“FUCK!” Gallus yelled. “Put me down now!!!”
“Wow, suck mannerism.” A deep, authoritative voice responded.
Gallus froze.
”It has dawn to me that your life has been, to put it bluntly, shitty.” The voice continued as it seemed to circle Gallus.
“Put me down!”
”No.”
“Can you just kill me?!” Gallus squirmed.
”Sure.”
Gallus smiled to himself until his world morphed into what appeared to be a dark blue floor with a orange-red sky above.
"Can you put me down?!" Gallus yelled out to the mysterious voice.
"Sure." It said as he was suddenly released and plopped down onto the dark blue floor.
"Can you be saying anything other than fucking sure?!?!"
"Sure."
"..." Gallus frowned.
"Going to a serious note, let me introduce myself." A dark swarm of clouds started to twirl in front of the now trembling griffon. The storm subsided to reveal another 'griffon' in front of him.
This griffon was nothing like Gallus has ever seen before. The griffon had a cloak surrounding his entire body and his body wasn't really a body. The body was completely black with no outlines of feathers and the eyes were just red orbs in the darkness of his brown cloak.
Gallus stared at the mysterious griffon that materialize in front of him with wide and fearful eyes.
"Now, before I get to much forwards with myself, my name is Lord Caligo of The Simples." Lord Caligo introduced himself.
Gallus continued to stare at the figure.
"Are you going to even acknowledge me?"
No.
"Hrgh... I'll make you." He snapped his talon to which Gallus' mouth started to chug away.
"This can't be fucking real. I'm a loser, why won't you fucking kill me. Fuck the world. Ashley is a big bitch. Is the sandstorm over yet?"
"Yeah..." Lord Caligo snapped again and Gallus' mouth stopped then Gallus shook his head.
"What was that all about?!" He screamed.
"You weren't talking."
"Why won't you just leave me alone?!"
"I am here to, 'rescue' you from what the world has become."
"Myshitty world?"
"Close enough."
"What do you mean?"
"I'll explain but first-." Lord Caligo snapped again, changing the world to an high altitude orbit around Earth/Equus.
"-you badly need an explanation."
"No shit." Gallus gawked at the planet beneath them.
"Yes shit, now all we need from you-" He poked Gallus as his normal griffon wing. "-is to kick ass and win."
"How? I live in and place that smells like ass." Gallus muttered.
"Correct, that was the long-term goal, my bad." He chuckled unconvincingly way as the scene went back to the endless plain.
"*Sigh* Am I that big of a loser?" Gallus asked himself as he laid on the 'floor.'
"Depends on your definition of loser."
"A being who is helpless and wants to kill themselves."
Lord Caligo didn't respond.
"You have so much to learn elderly Gallus." Lord Caligo shook his head, indicated by the cloak's motion.
"Eldery? I am not even a legal adult! Asshole!" Gallus yelled as he got up at Lord Caligo who didn't budge.
"Yes, elderly. That is not a mistake."
"What do you mean?" Gallus poked at the robes but his talons past right through them.
"You will have a lot to learn Gallus of Griffonstone. In the meantime, though, I should take the responsibility to, 'clean' you of your sins."
"..."
"That's what I though." Lord Caligo started to circle around Gallus.
"Young Gallus, you are the least innocent being I've ever came across on. Suffering up to the point of being suicidal." He stopped in front of Gallus and looked at him dead in the eyes.
"And don't think you know everything. We can't help you emotionally, but we can guide you." Then he disappeared from sight. Leaving behind Gallus in a panicking and confused state.
Gallus opened one eye, then two, then stretched his talons and hind legs out into the open air. Wait, what?
"What happened to my sigh?!" Gallus freaked out as he 'jumped' onto the warm dirt below in a cloudless sky.
"Looks like Mr. wanted is now awake boys." A light male voice said behind him.
"Well time to the get the cuffs." It continued.
"Oh no." Gallus said as he turned around to see several police officers behind him.
"Don't bother to resist young man, you are surrounded." He walked forwards as Gallus quickly looked around him for an escape path.
He didn't find one literally, but he did find a shiny piece of glass though.
"Not physically but you can meet me in about 30 years though." Gallus told the police as he quickly scooped up the glass and stabbed his chest with it.
Gallus' world quickly went dark.
Sometime later...
Gallus felt his eyes open as he looked up to see a stone ceiling above him.
"Urgh... is this hell?" Gallus asked out loud as he stretched up and looked around.
"Just a shitty cell and that is it?"
"It is a cell but you are not dead." A voice answered outside.
Gallus quickly rushed to a wall and knocked his brains out.
"WHY?!" He yelled. "WHY DO I KEEP ON FAILING!?!?!"
He quickly ended up on the floor as a shivering, wet eyed lump on the ground.
"Goodbye freedom, goodbye my change to escape this hell." He muttered as he failed to notice steps coming from the hallway.
*Knock* *Knock*
A piece of paper slide under the door.
"What is it?" He asked defeately as rolled over to picked up the paper with handcuffs on read it:
'Gallus,
You are currently being transferred over to Equestria's School of Friendship located in Ponyville, Cannon Valley, being effective immediately. Your train will be at blah blah blah blah blah...'
"Why do I need to learn friendship anyways?" Gallus rolled his eyes as he ripped his paper in two, then four, then sixteen little pieces.
"Whatever." He curled up tighter, unaware of the spirits in the room watching over.
He stayed there for about another half an hour simpering away until the door opened to his cell to reveal a mare walking into it.
“Fuck off.” Gallus growled.
“Sorry!” She giggled. “Can’t do that Gallus.”
“Then just leave me alone.” He turned away from the mare.
“Wells I’m here to tell you about your future.”
“Ha! Sure if I even have one.” Gallus rolled his eyes.
“Hmm...” Gallus heard the mare write something on a piece of paper.
“Well here is what’s going to come down as: You are in the process of becoming a citizen of Equestria at the moment-.”
“What?!?!” Gallus yelled as he tried to get to his feet but failed.
“Yes, you at the point stateless so Equestria will be your new state sometime today.”
Gallus couldn’t believe it. He is an alien.
“You will be departing on a 3 o’clock train bond to Canterlot where you will then bored the 5:00 red eye train to Ponyville and that is where you’ll go to The School of Friendship.”
“How mandatory is this shitty scheme of yours?” Gallus asked.
“Not mandatory but the government thinks that it will be a good idea for you.” She smiled.
Gallus frowned.
“Ma’am.” A male voice called from outside th still open door. “The paperwork went through.”
“Good. Gallus, you are clear to go.”
“No...” Gallus whispered.
