Equestria has fallen on dark times with the extended absence of Celestia from the throne. Luna has done as best she can to make the night hospitable to ponies everywhere, yet can only manage to partially bring up the sun for several hours every few days - the barest minimum needed for crops to survive. Added to this are the appearance of strange new ponies, abominations in their own right, yet eerily similar to average Equestrians.

In this dark hour, Rainbow Dash and her friends must keep the citizens of Ponyville healthy and safe, while looking for clues as to where Celestia has gone, before the situation gets any worse…
