Reapers Creek

Previous Chapter

For the town of Ponyville, it was a cold October evening. The quiet village was surrounded by a thick fog that seemed to spread off for miles. Covering the ground without any sight of the clearing. Most wouldn’t even see past. The winding roads were just off as they clearly needed to be repaved, though the city just never seemed to have the budget.

The town was simply too small, and people rarely even noticed it. Hell, most were sure if anyone looked on the map, People were sure you wouldn’t find it on the map. Such a feeling was depression. But for others, it was a sign of hope, of peace of mind. If you survive here, you’d be just fine. Off in the distance, the humming of the engine could be heard, as driving down the broken winding road into town, was the distinct vehicle, a Dodge Challenger nearly ten years old with over a hundred thousand miles under its belt. With a V6 engine that seemed to push it forward.

The radio blazing with classic country, the music was fitting to the man’s ears as he drove down, the high beams on. It was the only way anyone would be able to actually see in this fog, and even then, you would’ve seen as far as a few feet. So he had t drive a little slower. Good thing too, as he didn’t need to risk a crDusk, the insurance company would’ve loved that. Besides, this was probably the most essential object- no the most valuable item he ever owned. Sure it might not have been new, but it was his. He had a few more payments left on it. But the man was determined to pay it off.

But today, For twenty-five-year-old Dusk Shine, he was off to what might’ve been his next adventure. He was off to find a new place. A home for his own, He had trouble finding the town, but eventually, the realtor had pointed towards the direction and saw the city. It was about an hour and a half away.

He wasn’t much a simple factory worker. But the place paid well. So he was determined to give it a shot. He moved around as he soon saw the sign,

Ponyville. That was what had been written. The sight of it on the faded wooden sign that clearly needed to be changed. Though for now, it did its job. So here he was sitting there, at a complete stop, while taking a deep breath,

“it’s now or never Dusk.”

He changed gears moving over more as he turned it into the drive, and soon he headed off, the sound of the engine roared as he got in closer. Though for Dusk, his stomach began growling, he felt famished, so He decided to pick something up to bite.

He started driving off, knowing he had about an hour till he actually had to meet up with the realtor. Moving on, he started driving to where the closest Dinner was. It was one of those old-time Dinners, made of pure steel all around a girl maybe around in her early twenties wearing a skimpy outfit, and a small hat that looked pretty good on her, Standing at the counter.

Dusk pulled himself out of the Challenger and began walking inside. The car locking behind him as he pulled in. The place was much warmer than it had been outside. As he felt himself wanting to pull his jacket off. Moving over to the counter, he sat there, rubbing his hands together, trying to help warm up.

“Anything I can get for you, darling?” She asked with a broad smile, While Dusk just nodded,

“Mind if I get a coffee… Black as night, Sweet as sin with some biscuits and Gravy?” Dusk gave a small laugh while he watched the waitress nodded while jotting it down and called towards the back,

“James, I need a sweet Angel, with a side gravy biscuits.” The bell rang from the end; now Dusk wasn’t able to see who it was but leaned back, trying to get more comfortable, over to the side where two older men sat over drinking their own coffee. Dusk just gave them a nod while sitting back. The jukebox on the radio playing in the background. Just playing it around a country tune.

Dusk just enjoyed himself when one of the old men came over and just asked,

“Not from around here, are you?” His voice was gruff and spoke as if he’d seen a thing or two, and done so much more.

“Yeah, I mean, what gave it away?” Dusk said as the Waitress dropped the cup of brimming hot coffee in front of him. Dusk moved to take a slow drink while the old man took a seat next to him,

“Not many people around town drive a dodge challenger, most of the time they drive pickups or something by ford. Not often we get a fancy looking car like that ‘round.” He took a drink of his own coffee. While slipping it down.

“So where from?”

Dusk just sighed while taking another drink,

“I’ve just been around nothing more really, use to live off at Canterlot, though after my Parents died, I figured I’d go out and find something a little smaller. I’m meeting the relator today.” He gave a light smile, and the old man nodded,

“Well I wish you the best of luck, The good Lord knows we need more youngins here. The towns getting old, got an idea of where you’re moving too?”

“Not yet, but I’ll see the house, Thanks for asking, I’m just trying to get something warm to eat, it’s been quite a drive.” Dusk chuckled while taking another drink, lasting a little longer, as he felt himself getting warmer. He sighed more, while the old man nodded,

“Well, just try and keep your eye out there. You never know what might happen. Small towns aren’t always the calmest.” The old man began pulling his wallet out. Dusk didn’t pay much mind to it, figuring that the man was going to pay for his meal and get out. But no instead, he pulled out what looked to be a business card, and handed it over.

“If the new place needs some work. I’m the man to call Names Braeburn, it’s what my friends call me.” He coughed and waved over towards the waitress calling out,

“Put it on my tab, Derpy. I’ve gotta head over to the Carrot, Top’s roof requires reshingling.” The girl gave the nod as she wrote it down and Buster nodded as Dusk watched him walking away. Dusk took a deep breath and finished his coffee and pulled out his own wallet and began paying for his coffee. Most of it and just decided to take the biscuits with him.

Dusk walked back towards the Challenger when it finally began raining. It started small with little drops of rain, but as he got closer, it seemed to pour down harder.

“Fuck, Fuck!” He called out frustrated as he moved over running inside, quickly starting the ignition. The windshield got turned on as soon as he could and began putting it in reverse. As he drove off, Looking over towards his phone, finding out where he was going, and soon seeing the address, !54 Reapers Creek. It said he was about ten minutes away.

“Well, this shouldn’t be a problem, I’ll just drive off there and wait till they get there they can show me the house.” Dusk simply smiled as he pulled off. Moving down the road, watching out for the potholes and cracks in the street. He didn’t have a care in the world. While he hummed to the tune, the Radio was playing.

The ten-minute drive went by without a hitch, though admittedly, Dusk was driving a little faster, than the speed limit dictated, but the fact that no one was really on the road didn’t cause him to worry, and after all, in a car as beautiful as this, he might as well give the tires a good spin, and let the beast out. Dusk couldn’t help but chuckle. Though what he saw next as he drove up the winding road up a hill would definitely shock him.

Now Dusk was expecting the house to be maybe two stories at the most of a single-story three-bedroom house. But no this wasn’t that- It wasn’t even close to that. The house looked like a mansion. It was around three stories tall Windows as far as the eye could see. Sure, vines were climbing the walls and small problems. Then there was the lawn around the grass was overly long and definitely needed cut.

Dusk would continue watching the house, as he moved closer to the iron gate, and touched them. They were cold to the touch, as he held down onto them. While slowly pushing his head between the bars, while looking at it. There was something about this place… It was as if it was calling him, wanting him- But for what Dusk really didn’t know, why. It was quite extraordinary. Lost in a trance looking deep into the place. Dusk never actually saw the figure moving in closer and soon giving him a light push.

“Gah!” Dusk screamed startled as he turned around and standing right there was a young woman, Short Green hair, that was curled, a soft complexion with an ample body. Long thick legs that moved down fit in her dress, as she looked to be dressed for success. Ruby red lips that were clearly layered with lipstick and her top was showing a small bit of cleavage leaving enough for the imagination. She smirked more as she tapped her papers,

“Hello there Mr. Shine, I’m Lyra, we spoke on the phone a few days.”

“Oh… Hello, Lyra, please just call me Dusk, um so this is the place you were telling me about?” Dusk stuttered trying to keep his composure. He was never around a woman as pretty, typically his job was dominated by guys and the woman that was there would’ve been around in their fifties working through their golden years, though such beauty was such a rare sight.

“Oh, If you Insist Dusk If you let me unlock the gate, I can lead you into what might be your future home.” She smiled more as she tilted her head and pulled out an old copper key and proceeded to unlock the iron gate. The two would soon make their way into Reapers Manor.
