Project P : The beginning
Chapter 1 : Ghost car

It was a cold night on the Everfree mountain.

A single car was running downhill; a white Silvia S15.

'Oh my, is it that late already?' Rarity thought to herself looking at the digital clock of her Silvia, reading [22:18] .
'Looks like I’ve been for driving too long, I’d better head back'

vroooooooomp

The sound of an engine coming closer from the darkness behind.

"Huh?"

Glancing in her rear view mirror, she saw two pairs of headlights appear from the curve she had just rounded.

A few seconds later two cars shot by, one blue and the other lavender, at high speed. She could tell they were both going around 130 kilometers per hour.

vrooooooOOOOOOOoooomp

"Eep!?!" Rarity yelled out in surprise. After getting the car back under control, she looked back through the windscreen again.

Red trails from a duo of brake lights disappeared into the corner ahead, the sound of tires screeching ringing out into the night.

Vrooooooooomp skrrrrrrrrrrrrrt

"Wh- What was that!?"

Rarity said to herself.

----Blue car close up----

[straight road]

Luna, the no.2 driver of The Ponyville Legend, was driving her blue Rx-7 FD. After the drift round the previous corner, she looked back in her rear view mirror.
The mysterious car was still behind her, and it was getting closer.

'Dammit! I can't shake it! What is that car!?' She glanced at her rear view mirror, then back to the road again.
'That's not the one from our team.' She thought.

Luna used her hind legs to push the clutch pedal and brake to slow her car down. The fluttering noise came from under the hood as the air escaped back through the turbo; the inertia pressing her forward, but with Luna's experience, she was already used to it.

[left corner]

When the FD got close enough to the corner, she stomped the clutch hard, pressing the brake softly to slow her car. When her rear wheels began to slide, she shifted into a lower gear and opened the throttle, yanking the steering wheel in the opposite direction.

skrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt

As she calculated, her drift round the corner was flawless. As well as the mysterious car.

Luna glanced back, her rear view mirror revealing what she already thought: The mysterious car was still behind her.

'Nice driving, but after two corners, you'll disappear from my rearview mirror!' Luna thought with confidence.

[straight road before right corner]

Luna pushed the clutch and the brake pedal, making her car slow like she always did.

[right corner]

Like clockwork, Luna repeated the same pattern as with the previous corner. Stomp the clutch, press the break, shift down, open up the throttle and yank the steering wheel.

skrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrt

[straight road]

One corner passed. Luna glanced at her rear view mirror, hoping the mysterious car couldn't follow her precise cornering.

But the mysterious car drifted into view, getting closer again.

"grrrr......." Luna groaned as she shifted into a higher gear.

"How about this!?" Luna said out loud as she stomped the gas pedal down.

The G-force exerted it’s pressure over her whole body, pressing her harder into the driver’s seat, as the FD accelerated fiercely.

[straight road before right corner]

This time Luna was not going to slow down. She stomped on the clutch pedal and yanked the steering wheel, sending her car sliding, letting the momentum push the FD into the approaching corner.

[right corner]

At the perfect moment, Luna shifted down, stamping the gas pedal as hard as she could.

A small 'bang!' sound accompanied the flame spitting from the exhaust as the anti-lag system kicked in, causing the FD to lose momentum and drift effortlessly around the corner. Luna’s famed Sliding Drift.

[straight road]

"Ha! I bet you can't do that!" Luna smirked, feeling victorious.

Vroooooooomp

The sound of an engine came from her right side.

"Wait, what!?" Luna exclaimed fearfully as she turned her head toward the sound

What she saw was a GT-R badge at the center of a car's front end. A front end with a very unique bumper.

A Nissan Skyline GT-R R34.

And it was driving beside her FD.

'A Skyline R34!?' Yelled Luna as she stared at the R34, trying to discern the color of it. Maybe lavender?

Glancing at the windows, Luna tried to make out who was behind the wheel of that car, but the tint of the windows were too dark to see.

This time, Luna was not going to corner fast, since the road veered very sharply to the left after the gentle right.

Luna eased off of the clutch and released the gas, allowing her car to slow down.

vrooooooooomp

The R34 shot past, not slowing as Luna had.

'Doesn't she know this road? After this gentle right, there's a sharp left! If she continues like this, she'll hit the guardrail!'

[right curve]

As she expected, the back of the R34 started sliding to the left.

skrrrrrrrrrrrrrt

'I knew it! She's going too fast! There's no more room to slow down!' Thought Luna as she watched the R34 continue sliding.

[sharp left]

"What!?!" exclaimed Luna as she watched the back of the R34 slide to the opposite direction. She never expected that.

"The Inertia Drift!?"

---Back to Rarity---

Still driving downhill, Rarity’s head was swimming with thoughts of the two cars that had shot by.

'I wonder if they got into an accident down here' She thought.

After turning a corner, concern rose up her body. There, in the middle of the road ahead, was a car sat stationary. It was Luna's car!

"Luna!"

Rarity quickly parked her car, sprang out the door and ran to the FD’s driver side. "Luna! Are you alright?"

"I'm alright......" Luna answered back, staring at her steering wheel. Rarity let out a light sigh of relief. Luna continued.

"Did I just see the ghost of a racer who died on this pass?" Luna spoke quietly.

"What?" Rarity raised her eyebrow.

"I need to tell Celestia right now. Maybe tomorrow." Luna continued before trailing off.
