The world was pitched in darkness in fire, no livin soul would inhabit the ruins of the prosperous kingdom, canterlot.
A unicorn stallion adorning golden armor with the sun displaying his alliance, his blue hair would be matted all over his face as he looked back to a certain purple alicorn with wide eyes.
"Princess watch out!" His horn would glow bright red as a bolt was shot out at light speeds, careening down and impacting a shadowed figure.
The named princess would have wide eyes as she looked back at the scorching figure of a pony and back to the guard, who was waving his hoof like a mad pony "hurry!".
She would waste no time and tighten her grip on her saddlebags and continue galloping towards him. "T-thank you Alastair!".
Alastair would give a slight nod as he craned his head around and took a double look at their surroundings "all clear princess.. keep going, we have to get to the castle!".
Twilight would nod her head and glance behind him, a horrified expression adorning her face, alastair would turn in confusion before his expression widened in surprise.
Hundreds of those tortured souls, each one of them crawling over each other just to get to them. With a quick shake of his head he would turn back to twilight and run up to her, he would place his hand on her back and gesture his head forwards.
"Keep going! We cant waste any time, the mirror will be closing soon!"
Without hesitation they would both quickly start galloping away, passing by the rotted corpses of noble class ponies, passed all the burned houses once filled with so much life.
A gargle was heard as one of the figures jumped out and tackled Alastair crashing them both into the ground painfully, it would immediately start growling at him and snap its teeth. He would put his arm to the throat of the beast and look over to the princess, who was turned and looking at him worriedly.
"Princes! Keep going I'll catch up...dont stop running!" He would firmly call out to her, he growled when she just stood there in silence before he yelled out again.
"GO!" She recoiled back and nodded before turning, she weakly glanced back at him before sprinting off and up the path to the castle.
A small sigh would be let out of alastair as he focused back to the beast threatening to rip out his jugular, with a grunt he would kick it off of him. He would than roll over and stand himself up, looking to the beast who was also getting back up he quickly charged up his horn and fired a bolt at it.
The effect would be instant as it fell limp to the ground, blood started to seep out of the wound.
Turning to his left, his eyes slightly widened as the horde of beasts were now closer and he quickly got into a stance, his horn glowing brightly.
Twilight was a mess, the whole expedition went awry, her whole guard detail was lost to those things! And now the last one would be lost too!
Her head would look up as she found herself in front of the castle gates, or what was left of them. One was completely blown out of its hinges while the other was dressed with the body of a rotted royal guard.
A small groan was heard was heard as she turned her head and found a rotted out pony slowly crawling it's way towards her, their hind legs having been ripped off yet not stopping it.
"O-oh no-no-no…"
Her wings flared up a bit as she took a few steps back, tears threatening to fall from her eyes. The corpse would reach its hooves up at her limply before.
"Princess!"
A bolt of red would impact its head, splattering the contents of its head all over the floor. She would turn in shock as a worse for wear Alastair stood there.
"A-al-- oh no.."
Her joy was immediately crushed as she found a prominent bite mark along his hind leg, the armor wa useless against the power of the beasts jaws.
"I-its fine.." he would look to where she was staring am shook his head, there was better things to worry about not his well being.
"B-b..alas-"
"No princess! We have to get you out of here!"
He would quickly limp towards her and start insistently pushing her towards the gates, his breath getting heavier as he looked behind them.loud groaning was getting louder and louder.
"Come on!" He would quickly use all of his strength to haul her up and onto his back, not wasting time and sprinting through the gates.
His loud hoofsteps would be followed by a small trail of blood tainting the quartz floors of the palace hallways. He would be huffing and puffing as he turned the corner too quickly and slipped, crashing onto the floor and dropping twilight off of him.
He would let out a pained noise as he coughed out a glob of blood onto the floor and looked to the princess. She was whimpering softly as she stood and looked nervously at him before to the opposite end of the hallway behind them.
Hissss
His eyes would widen as he glanced to twilight and pushed past the pain and brought himself back onto four legs.
"Faust! Princess the mirror is just over there!" He would stretch out a hoof towards the end of the hallway, a slightly swirling mirror would be sitting there.
"Come one princess you're almost there!"
He would trot over to twilight, bending down and picking up her shaking form and setting her on his back. Turning back to the end of the hallway he would catch sight of glowing blue eyes upon the ceiling.
"Hold on princess!" He would bend his head down and scratch his armor hoof against the floor, he let out a snort before sprinting down the hallway.
He would dodge the incoming figure as they landed against the floor behind them, pushing past his growing weakness he would stop into front of the mirror and deposit twilight in front of it.
"Alright princess, this is my stop." He would turn towards the figure who was now on their feet and only approaching, hisses spurting out from it.
"B-bu.. what ab-" he would silence the princess as he glanced to the stained window, the sun just barely reaching over the horizon. His eyes would close before turning and picking up twilight by her shoulders, staring into her eyes with his own fading blue eyes.
"Make it count princess"
He would not let her make a protest as he tossed her into the mirror vortex just as the sun raised over the horizon and the vortex faded, leaving a smudged reflection of alastair and the beast approaching from behind!
He would turn just in time for the beast to pounce onto him.
