Crossing The Expanse pt 2

The age of his reckoning was uncounted. The scribes carved his name deep in the tablets of Hell across eons, and each battle etched terror in the hearts of the demons. They knew he would come, as he always had, as he always will, to feast on the blood of the wicked. For he alone could draw strength from his fallen foes, and ever his power grew, swift and unrelenting.

Buckshot was back in the cave, but this time it was open. He looked around to see himself surrounded by more flames. Beyond the flames was a empty void of darkness. He noticed that he was a bit tall, so he looked down and saw that he wasn't a pony anymore. He had no fur and no hooves. He had pink skin, and two legs with strange things on the end of them. He raised his front legs to see hands on the end of them. He looked up and saw the suit. He closed his eyes in anger. When he opened them, he was wearing the suit.

Suddenly, the flames started dancing around him. The corpses started rising.

"You can still save us.", they said in a raspy, zombie like voice. "RIP AND TEAR!!!", they chanted over and over again.

"AAAAGGGHHH!!!", he screamed as he woke up. He was in his sleeping bag in the habitat bubble or HAB as the official name. It was great timing because Mouth For War started playing on his alarm. He looked around to see the rest of the platoon staring at him.

"Uhh... sorry.", he said. He got up to have some breakfast. They retracted the HAB and started eating. He told Dexter about his dream while Hayseed drove the rover.

"Sounds like you were a human in your dream.", said Dexter.

"A what?", said confused Buckshot. "A human?"

"Yeah, like from mythology.", responded Dexter. Buckshot stared at him blankly. "Come on!", Dexter exclaimed. "You've never read about the Jumpgates and the beings that are beyond them?"

"I grew up on a farm, what do you expect?", responded Buckshot. "I never read much of anything besides the instruction manuals of our equipment."

"Humans were once an ancient myth. They were fist heard of before the alicorn extinction event." stated Dexter. He took a bite of his eggs and continued. "There are many theories about where they went. And they were recently proven to once existed, or still exist in another realm."

"How?", asked Buckshot.

"Human skeletons were found in hell.", answered Dexter. "And the weird things on the end of your hindquarters are called feet dumbass."

They finished eating and Buckshot took his shift driving. His paranoia was getting worse. He was constantly looking around for other demons, despite knowing that the probability of there being more following that specific rover was astronomically low. Still, he felt something was wrong.

After four hours of driving, It was time for Dexter's shift. Buckshot went back to his spot in the back of the rover where he did some thinking. There's definitely something bigger going on. He thought. The higher ups aren't telling us something important. But no, Princess Cadence isn't secretive enough to do that.

"Dexter, Buckshot, y'all better come take a look at this.", shouted Hayseed. They came to look at whatever Hayseed was making a fuss about. "We just entered sensor range of outpost 08.", he said.

"And...?", responded Buckshot.

"And I'm getting no sensor readings from it at all.", Hayseed said a little concerned. "It's like the outpost isn't even there."

"That is weird.", said Dexter.

"Well, What are you supposed to find?", asked Buckshot.

"About sixty-nine life signs and a small power reactor.", Answered Hayseed.

"Nice!", interrupted Dexter.

"Dexter, you are either the wisest of dragons, or the most immature of assholes.", said Buckshot.

"I'll stay by the sensors and see if anything comes up.", said Hayseed. "I'll try to recalibrate the sensors. See if that helps." Buckshot and Dexter went back to going about their business. Something certainly isn't right. Thought Buckshot. I'm just going to have to wait until we get there to find out what it is what it is.
