In accordance with Section 330 of the School of Friendship Handbook, scripted by Headmare Twilight Sparkle, any allegation of sexual abuse of a student at the School of Friendship is subject to immediate investigation by a qualified professional.
Shortly before Cozy Glow was sent to Tartarus for stealing the magic from Equestria, she made an allegation that Chancellor Neighsay—a stallion from Canterlot, who is the current head of the EEA—had molested her.
Due to the unrest that Cozy Glow caused in Equestria by: kidnapping guidance counselor Starlight Glimmer, stealing all the magic from Equestria, and attempting to murder a yak at the School of Friendship (charges are still pending)…the investigation could not take place until after she was imprisoned.
It was argued that since Cozy Glow is a convicted criminal, she does not have the right to mandatory investigation of her abuse allegations. However, in accordance with Section 330 Addendum 6 of the Handbook, former students, regardless of their “standing,” have a right to investigation into their allegations.
Two months into her imprisonment at Tartarus, Cozy Glow was questioned regarding her allegations of abuse. She was questioned by Nurse Redheart, who reported her findings to Princess Twilight.
Nurse Redheart did not feel like a guest as she entered the gates of Tartarus. The guards, probably used to ordering two-ton beasts rather than young mares, screamed harshly at the nurse, demanding to know her purpose for visiting. She handed them the necessary documents, signed by Princess Twilight, and she was granted entry, escorted by two armed guards.
She only had to take a few steps down the corridor before she saw the pony she was here to visit: a young pegasus filly, sitting in a cage disproportionately larger than her. She was rolling a piece of dirt across the cell floor, like it was a ball.
“You have a visitor,” the guard said to the young filly.
“I do?” the prisoner exclaimed, in a high-pitched, juvenile voice. “Oh, golly, that’s great!”
Nurse Redheart was repulsed by the cold dark caverns that surrounded her. She took Cozy Glow to a more (dare we say) cozy niche in the rock. She swept the loose dirt into a softer cushion for Cozy to sit.
“Are you comfortable?” she asked.
“Yes.” The foal sounded just like Redheart’s other young patients at the hospital. The nurse found it hard to believe that this was the most dangerous pony in all of Equestria. The guards surrounding Cozy at some reasonable distance reminded Nurse Redheart of the truth.
She tried not to look back at the guards.
Nurse Redheart introduced herself, and so did Cozy. “It’s nice to meet you, Nurse Redheart. I’m Cozy ‘Gwow’. You can just call me Cozy. Wanna be friends?”
Nurse Redheart chuckled nervously. “Sure.” It was part of the protocol to try to befriend the abuse victim if they offer friendship. It improves trust between the interviewer and the interviewee, and increases the chance of full disclosure by the foal.
“Now, Cozy, I want you to understand that I am only here to investigate your allegation of sexual abuse. I am not here regarding any of the crimes you committed that led you to here.”
The nurse looked back at the stone-faced guards after she said that. She swallowed a lump.
“Oh. Okay,” Cozy Glow nodded.
“Now, can you tell me what Chancellor Neighsay did to you?”
“Who?”
“Chancellor Neighsay. The one you said hurt you.”
Cozy Glow sat there, genuinely drawing a blank for three whole minutes. Finally, Nurse Redheart showed her a picture.
“Oh, oh. That…that…stallion. Yeah. Erm…I…I remember him,” Cozy said, a bit too casually. “Clear…clear as a bell. He…he molested me. I…I didn’t know who you were talking about at first because, erm…I…I called him….erm…‘Nay-nay.’ Yeah. That’s right, erm…what did I say?”
“You said you called him ‘Nay-nay.’”
“Yeah, yeah. He…he made me call him that. It was horrible. Because that’s not his legal name, and you know what it’s like if you use a fake name. Look at all the litigation that happened with A.K. Yearling and Daring Do. So he could’ve got me into sooo much trouble, you see. It was practically torture.” Cozy Glow was sulking by the end, her breath short, as if she were about to cry.
Nurse Redheart raised an eyebrow. She was a bit confused, but not entirely fazed—she had seen a few cases of foals that coped with their abuse by making light of the situation. Even though her gut still hurt, she continued with the questioning protocol.
“So, Cozy, can you describe how Chancellor Neighsay hurt you?”
“Erm…yeah. He…” suddenly she made high-pitched sobbing noises, which echoed in the caverns. Tears began to come out of her eyes. “…he took me into a dark windowless basement, and he…and he…”
“What did he do…?”
“He molested me, that’s what!” Cozy Glow began to sob, rubbing her eyes with the tail of her ribbon. “It was so horrible! He…he touched me, and I didn’t give consent…~!”
“I’m sorry, Cozy. That sounds horrible.”
“It does?” Cozy suddenly looked up, her eyes lit up. Her breathing was calm and her eyes uninflamed, as if she had never been sobbing.
Nurse Redheart continued, trying to hide her skepticism. “Cozy, can you explain what he did to you?”
“I told you, he molested me.”
“What did he do when he molested you?”
Cozy Glow looked up and to the left. “He…erm…erm…I can’t say,” she said, averting her gaze, with a sad look on her face.
“Why can’t you say?” Nurse Redheart asked.
“He…he made me promise not to tell~!” she began sobbing again.
Nurse Redheart knew from experience that this was a common reason why abused foals do not disclose. “Well…can you at least tell me why he made you promise not to tell?”
“Be…because…he’d ban me.”
“Ban you?”
“Erm…yep! Ban me! Because he…he said he’d ban me from going to the School of Friendship.”
“Why would he do that?”
Cozy’s voice faded to almost a whisper. “Because, I’m…a pegasus?”
“I thought Chancellor Neighsay was only against non-ponies.”
“He was…but…he…he changed his mind. He’s so bigoted, you know…ponies, non-ponies, tomato, tomahto…it’s all the same to him really.”
“Oh. I see.” Nurse Redheart hesitantly nodded in agreement. She did not know much about the stallion except what others told her. For all she knew, Cozy could be right.
Nurse Redheart felt a chill down her spine. She wanted to get of here as soon as possible. Continuing with the protocol, she went into her bag and pulled out two plush pony dolls: a larger unicorn one, and a smaller pegasus one.
“I don’t like plushies,” Cozy Glow said, pushing the doll away.
“What toys do you like, Cozy?”
She paused. “Chess. But not checkers. Just chess.”
“Chess is a lovely game. I used to play it at my grandfather’s house all the time.” Nurse Redheart hated chess. Mainly because she hated her grandfather.
Cozy Glow smiled. “That’s good. Do you like playing white or black?”
She thought for a moment. “…black.”
“Oh that’s great, I like the other one, erm…I mean, white. So then maybe we can play together sometime.” Cozy smiled widely, her dimples making deep impressions.
Nurse Redheart smiled back. It was silent for another moment. She suddenly felt another chill down her spine.
Nurse Redheart presented the doll to Cozy Glow again. “Can you point on the doll where Chancellor Neighsay touched you?”
“Oh, he didn’t touch me,” she said, resuming her casual tone. “He molested me…~!” She then abruptly shifted to sobbing.
“I thought you just said he touched you.”
Cozy Glow did a double take. “I did?”
“Yes you did.”
There was a moment of silence, then Cozy Glow replied. “No I didn’t. It was…I outburst-ed. I may have said ‘touched,’ but I didn’t really mean it. I mean, I’m just a little foal, and my juvenile mind is prone to impulsive verbal outburst-ing that shouldn’t be taken at face value. You understand, don’t you?”
Cozy Glow continued after seeing Nurse Redheart nod. “But…he…he did touch me, erm…actually.”
“I thought you said that was just an outburst.”
Cozy Glow gave Nurse Redheart a condescending look, as if mocking her for her stupidity. “Of course it was, silly. But I mean, when I said ‘molest,’ molest already includes touching in the dictionary definition of the word. When I was referring to the case of when I outburst-ed ‘touch,’ I implied to mean ‘touch’ on it’s own, not the ‘touch’ that's part of the package deal of 'molest.'”
Nurse Redheart blinked for a moment trying to digest the word salad, while Cozy gave her a smug look of intellectual superiority.
Nurse Redheart continued with the protocol. “Well then, since he did touch you, can you point to where he touched you?”
“Here.” Cozy Glow pointed to the right front hoof of the small pegasus doll, then paused and looked up at Nurse Redheart’s expression for a few seconds.
“And…also up here,” she continued. She pointed to the muzzle of the doll, and looked up again.
“And…also down here,” she repeated, this time pointing to the cutie mark region of the doll.
“And, also…down there.” She pointed in between the hind legs. After that, she stopped pointing.
“So he touched you ‘down there.’”
“Yes.”
“Okay. Can you tell me where did this occur?”
“In the headmare’s office.”
“I thought you said it was a dark windowless basement.”
Cozy Glow paused again. “It…it was…he closed the curtains, so it looked like a basement. I think. It could’ve been. It’s all a blur…I just wanna forget it all~!” The high-pitched sobbing echoed in the cavern walls yet again.
It was the exact same pitches every single time—starting high, dipping to a middle tone, the second sob starting about 3 semitones lower, and a little voice crack at the rising tone of 4th sob. It was perfect. And it made Nurse Redheart sick.
“Okay. Can you tell me what else happened in the headmare’s office, Cozy?”
“Erm…he…said bad words to me.”
“What bad words did he say?”
“Erm.” Cozy Glow looked up at the upper left corner again. “He said that I was a…erm…a…a…‘molestable friend.’ So that’s why he molested me.”
“And then what happened?”
“And then he tied me up and he molested me. And part of the molesting is when he touched me…down there. And then the saddest part was he made me be late for Professor Rarity’s generosity class, and she gives 20 points off your attendance grade if you’re late to class. And she’s the only professor that gives points off if you’re late. So then I got 20 points off~…!” And she increased her sobbing volume.
Cozy Glow looked up at Nurse Redheart, her sobbing abruptly stopped. “You believe me, don’t you?” she asked.
This time, Nurse Redheart could not hide her hesitation. “Yes, I…I do.”
Cozy Glow scowled. “No you don’t. You’re lying.”
“Y-yes I do.”
“No you don’t.”
“Yes I do.”
“No you don’t.”
“Yes I do.”
Cozy Glow sighed. “We could go on for much, much, much longer, Nurse Redheart. Believe me. I’ve got all the time in the world.” Cozy’s voice suddenly dropped by half an octave, and her eyes squinted like a villain.
Nurse Redheart turned back to make sure the guards were still there.
It was silent for a full minute.
“Well…why do you accuse me of lying, Cozy Glow?”
She suddenly started sobbing, her voice returning to its “normal” pitch. “So it IS true! You don’t believe me! You think I’m bluffing, just like everypony else!” She turned her back to her and curled into a little ball. “I thought you were my FRIEND~!”
Nurse Redheart was trapped on what to do next. “Of…of course I’m your friend, Cozy.”
“Then why don’t you believe me~?” she muttered.
“I never said that.”
“Yes you did.” Cozy Glow frowned at Nurse Redheart. “You looked it. All you medical ponies are the same. You have no compassion for poor little molested filles like me.”
Nurse Redheart thought about all the abused foals that she had interviewed in her job. And somehow, at that moment, Cozy Glow looked exactly like them: curled up into a ball, sobbing, prone to aggression, skeptical of her trust. And that was all that she saw sitting in the dirt: a poor, abused little filly that she, apparently, had no compassion for.
“If you don’t believe me, we can’t be friends anymore~!”
“I…I’m sorry, Cozy, I…”
Cozy stopped her sobbing, although the noises echoed for a few additional seconds. “Nurse Redheart, can I tell you a secret?”
“Of course, Cozy.”
Cozy Glow whispered something in her ear. Nurse Redheart had nightmares for a whole week because of it.
“Remember, it’s a secret,” Cozy said, grinning widely, her eyes round and soulful.
“Okay, Cozy. I promise.” She nodded, trying to stop herself from (actually) losing her shit.
Cozy did not nod back.
“I’m sorry I accused you of lying, Cozy Glow,” Nurse Redheart said aloud. “I didn’t mean to say that. I…I believe everything you said.” She tried to suppress the tremor in her voice as she spoke.
“You do?” The foal smiled, pushing her fleshy cheek up with her hoof and turning her mouth into a smile.
The nurse swallowed a very large lump before she said, “Of…of course I do, Cozy.”
“Awww, thank you Nurse Redheart. You’re so kind.” She touched her with her hoof and smiled from cheek to cheek. There was creamed spinach stuck in between her pearly white teeth. Nurse Redheart cringed.
Nurse Redheart finished up her paperwork in an empty cell. Cozy Glow's case file was now ready to be submitted to the authorities for a formal investigation. She was escorted out of Tartarus by the same two armed guards that had brought her in. Cozy Glow waved goodbye from her cell.
“Oh, and Nurse?” Cozy Glow hollered just as Nurse Redheart was about to leave.
The nurse turned her head back. “Yes?”
“I always thought I was the biggest and best liar,” she said in her default casual tone. “But it turns out you’re an even bigger and better liar than I am.”
The guards quickly escorted Nurse Redheart out of the prison complex.
Nurse Redheart could not sleep that night.
