For millennia darkness and light were the forces that kept the Balance in the Equestria. Then it was disrupted after Luna was consumed by the jealousy and anger and in the process, she transformed into Nightmare Moon, her inner darkness. Princess Celestia was forced to banish her sister to the moon for 1000 years using the Elements of Harmony. During this time, Celestia was ruled the Equestria as one ruler, but the dreadful event has left her scarred for the rest of her life.

Now, her faithful student Twilight Sparkle was sent to the Ponyville to stop Nightmare Moon from plunging the world into eternal night. Not knowing that the other being, one that left the Equis long time. Born from the darkness and light, he will fix the things that were left in his absence.
