Spike smirked to himself as he spied several such traps in his immediate vicinity. The nearest was a scarf haphazardly discarded upon the floor not ten dragon steps from the door. The string was purple and only about three inches long. It did not appear to be connected to anything and even a veteran of Rarity’s shop might have missed it against the purple floor. Spike pondered why Rarity would include such a hard-to-spot trap indicator in such a place so close to the door. Usually she gave her intended victims a fair chance to evade her clutches, provided that they were vigilant. That she would up the difficulty level could only be because she knew that he, Spike the dragon, was coming. It might have just been a result of growing up with Twilight as a guardian, but the drake could not imagine any other possibility than this being a test of some sort. If there was one thing he learned from watching Twilight, it was the dangers of thinking so far ahead that you forgot to act within the now.

“No,” he chided himself. “Don’t get cocky. That leads to sloppiness, which will just cost me everything.”

Spike scanned the room once more, twice more, and then another six times. He looked behind himself to count all of the traps he’d narrowly avoided, set off prematurely, or circumvented entirely by choosing different paths. Ninety nine in total. That sealed it for him.
