The Best for Equestria
A conversation between sisters [Edited]
Load Full StoryThe Friendship festival is over. Celestia smiled as she watched the ponies and creatures leave Canterlot on the castle balcony. Some went flying, others walked, others by train and those who lived in Canterlot went to their homes. But her eyes were on Twilight. She couldn’t help noticing that Twilight has grown a lot since she was a filly. She always saw Twilight as her daughter. She put the front hooves on the balcony.
Suddenly, she heard the sound of footsteps, but she wasn’t caring so much, as she continued to look at Twilight. “Watching our subjects leave Canterlot, sister?”
Celestia looked at Luna, who was smiling at her. “Yes, Luna. Even if this is the place where we raise and lower the moon and the sun, I can’t help but deny that it is a beautiful sight to see the ponies below. ”
“I agree, Celestia,” said Luna.
“Princess Celestia, Princess Luna,” Celestia and Luna looked back and saw a royal guard, bowing before them. “Dinner is ready.”
“Thanks for letting us know. You can return to your post, ” said Celestia as she smiled. The royal guard bowed before leaving.
Celestia looked at Luna. “Come on, Luna,” she started walking. Luna did the same.
As they headed towards the dining room, Celestia thought about Twilight again. Twilight was the one who gave the idea of the Friendship Festival. Twilight had talked to the three princesses, but she talked to Celestia more. The reason Twilight wanted to do this festival was so that the creatures and ponies were more united.
The festival took place today, in the afternoon. But it was a pity that Storm King’s army had invaded Canterlot just when the festival was about to begin. But lucky that Twilight and her friends managed to defeat Storm King. And Celestia was surprised when Twilight told her the story of Tempest Shadow, but in truth, the mare’s real name was Fizzlepop Berrytwist. She never imagined that Fizzlepop had joined Storm King because he promised her he would fix her horn. She felt sorry for that broken horned unicorn. Fizzlepop was used.
But Celestia’s thoughts have now shifted to when she touched something. She and Luna were unable to save Equestria again from a threat. She stopped walking and her ears went down.
Luna opened the door with her magic with a smile. “We’re here, sister!” She looked at Celestia and saw that Celestia was concerned. Luna was worried and went to Celestia. “Sister? What happened?”
Celestia looked at Luna. She didn’t know how she was going to explain this to Luna. “Luna, something started to bother me recently.”
“What bothers you, dear sister?” asked Luna as she was worried about her sister.
Celestia bit her lip nervously. “I don’t know how I’m going to explain this to you.”
Luna started to wonder why Celestia was like this? Was it something she did?
“Celestia, are you upset with me?” asked Luna, without sounding accusatory as she put the hoof on her chest.
“No, Luna. Isn’t it. I’m not upset with you,” replied Celestia.
Luna was relieved. She blew out a sigh of relief as she put the hoof back on the floor. “So what is it?”
“Luna, could we talk about this while we eat?”
Although Luna is still concerned, she replied, “If that’s what you want, that’s fine then.”
Celestia and Luna started walking again and sat on the chairs, next to each other. There was vegetable soup on the table. Celestia was about to put some soup in the spoon in her mouth, but Luna interrupted her. “Now that we’re seated, could you tell me what bothers you?”
Celestia put the spoon back on the plate and looked at Luna. “Luna, you know what happened today, don’t you?”
“Yes Sister. Today there was the Friendship Festival, which was organized by Twilight and her friends,” replied Luna.
“Yes, Luna. But do you know what happened during the festival?” asked Celestia.
“Yes. Canterlot was invaded by Storm King’s army.”
“Do you know what happened to us when we tried to save Equestria and tried to go to the Queen of the Hippogriffons?”
“Yes. We and Cadence become rocks,” she replied. “Celestia, I don’t understand. Why are you recapping what happened today?”
“It’s because ... I just realized that we couldn’t save Equestria,” replied Celestia.
Luna became more confused. “But Celestia, Storm King was defeated.”
“Yes, Luna. He was defeated,” agreed Celestia. “But we weren’t the ones who defeated him.”
“But sister, why does that bother you?” asked Luna. She didn’t understand anything. Why was Celestia like this? Was it because Celestia felt she should have tried to talk to Fizzlepop? Celestia had told her about the Fizzlepop story, and she felt sorry. Because Fizzlepop has suffered in the past just like her. Fizzlepop lost the horn and best friends, and Luna became jealous and became Nightmare Moon.
“It’s because ...” Celestia paused before returning to speak. “... I’m starting to wonder if we should continue to rule Equestria.”
Luna was surprised. She didn’t expect that answer. “W… what?”
Celestia knew that Luna would be confused, but she soon replied, “Luna, we are the rulers of Equestria, but we have never been able to save our subjects from the dangers that occur.”
“But what do you mean, sister? Are you saying that we are not able to save Equestria?” asked Luna.
“I’m not implying that we are not able to protect Equestria, but didn’t you notice?” asked Celestia.
“I didn't realized what?”
“That whoever saves Equestria is Twilight and her friends?”
“I always noticed. But why are you mentioning this?”
Now it would be time for her to say what she felt. “Because I think Twilight and her friends have proven to be able to defend Equestria much better than the two of us.”
Luna’s mouth fell open. “You don’t mean what I think you mean, do you?”
“What do you think I mean?” asked Celestia, now curious.
“You don’t mean we should retire, do you?” asked Luna carefully.
Celestia looked to the side. “Yes, Luna. I mean it.”
“But ... Celestia, it’s been a few years since I returned to rule with you,” said Luna.
“I know, Luna. But try to see it from another side. Most of the time when Equestria is in danger, we are never around to save Equestria,” explained Celestia as she looked back at Luna.
“But how so? Give me examples of villains that we can’t do anything but watch!” demanded Luna.
“Discord, Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra, Lord Tirek, Pony of Shadows and Storm King,” replied Celestia.
Luna couldn’t believe it. Wasn’t she a good princess for Equestria? “But I protect the subjects from nightmares. Doesn’t that count as something?”
“Yes. It does, Luna,” replied Celestia.
“But then why are you saying that we should retire?” asked Luna.
“Because Twilight and her friends are better able to defend Equestria from threats better than we are,” replied the older sister before smiling. “And besides, think on the bright side.”
Luna raised an eyebrow. “What’s the bright side?”
“We will have time for each other, we will be able to explore Equestria, be with our friends and have no real duty,” replied Celestia with a smile.
Luna started to think. She didn’t want to retire yet, as it had been a few years since she returned to rule Equestria together with Celestia. But she started to think about what Celestia said about retirement and even that the idea of retiring was not so bad. Since she could spend a lot of time with her Sister. “You know what, sister? It’s a good idea. When are we going to retire? Tomorrow? Next week? In the next year?”
“Not yet, Luna,” replied Celestia.
Luna was confused. “Not yet? So, when?”
“First, let’s let a few months go by, and maybe years. And when we are sure that no more threats will come, we will announce our retirement to Twilight, Spike and her friends,” replied Celestia.
“And will it be long?” asked Luna, already anxious.
“Unfortunately it will take a while,” replied Celestia, now sad, but soon got excited. “But we are going to enjoy it a lot as princesses of Equestria before we retire and pass the throne to Twilight.”
Luna became calmer. “Well, while we don’t retire, do you have anything in mind?”
Celestia started to think, until she had an idea. “Yes. I have something in mind.”
“Really? Which is?” asked Luna.
“I’m going to give the idea of Twilight founding a school so that ponies and creatures can study friendship, so that ponies and creatures can live in harmony and learn more about friendship,” replied Celestia.
Luna smiled as she lifted a hoof. “It’s a great idea, sister. Because then Twilight will have a school just like you as long as it’s governing Equestria. ”
Celestia nodded. “I agree, Luna. Now, let’s start eating. The soup must have been cold by now. ”
Luna remembered the soup. She was so focused talking to Celestia that she forgot about the soup. “I even forgot about the soup.”
“Me too, Luna. But we better eat soon or else we will spend an entire night on an empty stomach,” said Celestia.
“I agree,” said Luna as she started to eat her soup. Celestia did the same.
