Blaze and Dust exited the locker room in their recruit outfits and came to a stop next to the other recruits by the runway. Most of the other recruits eyed Dust with angry glares, but she managed to ignore them knowing she had a friend that stood up for her.

"Listen up newbies! Do you think you have what it takes to be a Wonderbolt?!" Spitfire said while walking up to them.

"Don't answer that question and whatever you do don't say 'try me'." Lightning Dust whispered to Blaze, who gave a small nod in response.

"Yes ma'am!" all recruits except Blaze and Dust answered.

"Well then let me break it to you. YOU DON'T!!!" Spitfire said adding more volume to her voice. "If you have what it takes then you would already be a Wonderbolt!" she continued and walked up to Blaze.

"Don't think your height gives you an advantage. I won't surprised if you bail out later today." Spitfire taunted.

"As long as my iris' are crimson i'll never give up ma'am!" Blaze answered firmly.

Spitfire didn't answer and walked up to Lightning Dust.

"I won't accept more recklessness. Got it?!" Spitfire said.

"Yes ma'am!" Lightning Dust answered managing to sound confident.

"Good. Now all of you GET UP THERE AND GIVE ME TWENTY LAPS!!!" Spitfire shouted before blowing her whistle.

At this everyone flew off the ground and started flying around the academy. Though Lightning Dust didn't fly as fast as she could and got bumped by almost every single on of the recruits. Blaze noticed as she slowed down and flew next to Dust.

"Hey what's wrong?" she asked.

"I-I don't really know. I just can't bring myself to as fast as could before." Lightning Dust answered.

"Hey don't worry about it. It's in the past and we don't have to be the best right away. Go at the speed your comfortable with. It will be better from here on. I promise." Blaze said giving an empathetic smile.

One week later

Lightning Dust regained confidence slowly, but at least her speed began picking up. On Dizzitron Lightning Dust had done well. She made it in 7 seconds. While Blaze absolutely wrecked Rainbow Dash's record by making it in 5,1 seconds. Lightning Dust was doing well generally and even some of the other recruits had began warming up to her. Though most of them were still being mean. When they were put into teams Lightning Dust and Blaze were teamed up. Blaze became lead pony and Dust became wingpony.

Rainbow Dash flied around the academy and looked at the recruits cloud busting.

"No tornado thankfully." she said to herself.

Suddenly two Pegasi shot past her and flew in synchronized movement parting way and shooting through a whole bunch of clouds in the process before they landed on runway. Rainbow Dash flew down to them and immediately recognized them. Blaze and Dust.

"When lighting strikes...!" Dust started.

"...A blaze erupts!" Blaze finished as they gave each other a high-hoof.

Rainbow Dash slowly flew over to them and landed about a meter away.

"Hello there. How's it going?" she asked half heartedly.

Lightning Dust's mood dropped immediately and she looked away while Blaze gave Rainbow Dash a bright smile.

"We're doing great. Thanks for asking." she said enthusiastically.

"So how are you doing as a team?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"We're second best at the moment, but I bet that we'll be the best when this is over. You should look at the scoreboard when you have time." Blaze answered.

"Alright. I'm off for now. See you later." Rainbow Dash said to Blaze and made a 'I'm watching you' gesture towards Lightning Dust before she flew off.

"Well that was weird.........Anyway let's go get something to bite into at the mess hall. What do say?" Blaze said as she turned to Lightning Dust.

"Y-yeah. That sounds nice...." Dust answered.

Two days later

Blaze and Dust were in the middle of an obstacle course when they suddenly heard Spitfire's voice through a megaphone.

"Blaze Firestarter and Lightning Dust! Come down to the runway right now!!"

The two of them looked at each other for a second before they gave a shrug and flew down to the runway. When they got there they saw that Rainbow Dash and Twilight were there too.

"What's up?" Blaze asked.

"The princess wants you to come with her and Rainbow Dash to the castle of friendship down in Ponyville. Dash also wanted you to bring Lightning Dust so she wouldn't do anything stupid. Even though I could handle it myself."

Blaze thought for a moment, but quickly came with an answer.

"I don't see why I wouldn't come with. Just gotta go and take off these uniforms. Come on Dust! I'll race ya." Blaze said as she started to fly towards the locker room.

"You're on!" Dust said as she flew after.
