A Simple Question, A Terrible Truth
The Question
Load Full StoryNext ChapterTwilight walked through the hall of Canterlot castle, her mind full of doubt about her upcoming actions.
She knew she could trust Celestia with anything, she was her mentor, and Twilight her faithful student. But still, she felt she could be crossing some line with her, and it may have repercussions.
“No, I need to know. If she and Luna really want me to rule Equestria, they will tell me anything. I just need to ask.” Twilight took some air and opened the doors to the throne room.
Celestia was sitting on the throne, as regal and perfect as always. Her assistant was giving her some reports while the guards stood at the ready.
“Twilight, it’s nice to see you,” Exclaimed the monarch when she saw her, giving a gesture to her assistant to hold the report for later.
“It’s nice to see you too princess.”
“What brings you to the castle today? Do you need some advice?”
“Something like that. Could we do it in private?” she asked whit nervousness, and Celestia looked surprised and a little confused.
“Yes. Could you please leave the room?”
The guards and assistant gave a little reverence and quickly marched through the door, leaving them alone.
“Twilight is this about a friendship problem?” asked Celestia, getting down from her throne to walk in front of Twilight.
“No, its… something I have been worried to ask you, but I haven’t been able to get it out of my mind.”
“Well, what is it?”
Twilight took some air, preparing herself for what was to come.
“Are we immortal?”
Celestia looked confused.
“You mean, as an alicorn?”
“No, I mean everypony. With the exception some villains, we all seem incapable of dying.”
“Twilight I think you are exaggerating.”
“I’m not, I have been thinking about it for a while. How many times has Rainbow crashed into something harder than her body and walked it off with only some scratches? Even when she fell from the sky, she only got her wing damaged.”
“That’s no reason to suppose- “
“And Cadence, she was trapped below Canterlot for weeks without food or water and still was decently okay.”
“Well, she is an alicorn, and- “
“Yeah, but the bridesmaids that jumped to the rocks below the cave to catch the bouquet also were fine. And how many ponies have we seen getting blasted by lasers and not have even a single scratch on them?”
“Twilight- “
“And my fight with Tirek, we both should have exploded, regardless of how much magic we had.”
“Twilight- “
“And don’t get me started on Pinkie, even I just spontaneously burst into flames out of frustration, and I was fine seconds later.”
“Sparkle!” Celestia shouted, making Twilight stop, taking a few steps back.
“I would ask you to leave this question unanswered, but I know you will not rest until I show you. You do this every time.”
“Wait, what do you mean? Have I asked you this before? Are you erasing my memories?” With each question, Twilight looked more and more scared of her mentor. She didn’t even sound like herself.
“I will show you then, one more time.” Celestia extended her wings, and the whole throne room started to tremble, and then shift over itself.
“Wait, stop, what are you doing?!” Twilight was scared, she could feel the walls of the castle coming towards her, while Celestia seemed more and more distant.
She closed her eyes, waiting for; something, something bad.
