Journal Entry #1 An Oddity?
Ugh, where do I even begin with this...
Hello, I guess? I'm not very good at this journal thing. I suppose no one will ever read this, but it feels wrong to be writing this as if I am telling this story to no one. For now, I shall assume that these tales shall one day be needed. Perhaps a multiversal catastrophe will ocurr or some such drama.
Bah, not like they would ever need my help anyways. I'd just be watching from the sidelines. As usual. You'd think somepony could never get tired of their special talent. You try watching the entire multiverse for a few millennia, see how entertained you are!
I'm getting off topic, aren't I?
The first oddity occured a few weeks back. I probably should have recorded this sooner. However, I was just too busy trying to figure out how to resolve such a case. I'd never seen something quite like this before. An occurance that actually required my intervention! Simply facinating.
Not that anyone will ever remember these things happening. As it stands, the simplest way to resolve a deviation of this magnitude was to simply wipe this alternate universe from existence entirely. Some may complain that I've just slaughtered Billions. And they would be right. However, I prefer to think that I have just spared Billions from a fate far worse than death. Perhaps I am wrong, but either way, it's not like anyone will ever know to judge me.
I'm off topic again. Time for the actual recording. I have placed a link to the universe this abberation spawned off of, should anyone reading this need a refresher on what actually occured, and where the deviation split off from the appropriate timeline. Now then, on to the entry!
"Moooommmmyyyyy"
The cry wailed through the night, pircing the chilly Ponyville skies and disturbing animals and ponies alike. The foal sobbed as she was loaded onto the chariot, the glowing white wings of the Solar regent concealing the child from view. With a nod of her horn, the two royal guards stationed to the chariot spread their wings and took flight, pulling their ruler and her target away into the night sky.
"This is rather odd..." I thought to myself, watching the Princess of the Sun pull away in the dusk hours, retreating to Canterlot in her haste. "Last time I checked, Celestia was not a Foalnapper..." Pulling out my ledger, I quickly flipped through my notes on the basic facts of the multiverse. "Yes, she is the kind and benevolent ruler of Equestria. Why would a child be screaming for their caretaker in her presence?"
Before I could investigate further, movement caught my eye as the door to the Golden Oaks Library swung violently open, the resident charging out as her horn flared with a radiant violet aura. Twilight Sparkle was charging to war, and it seemed Celestia herself was the target of her rage.
As the child's voice rang desperately from the chariot, I watched as Twilight teleported multiple times, using practically every spell in her book as she desperately tried to bring the chariot down. Alas, she seemed to be without the wings I had been seeing on most of her counterparts, and as such was helpless as the cries were silenced, and the chariot drifted from her view.
From here, I could see the timeline ripple as Twilight Sparkle split in two. One dropped to the ground, wailing as she watched her child drift into the night. The other lit aflame, startling the townsponies who had approached due to the commotion. With a bright flame in her eyes, burning down to her very soul, Twilight Sparkle teleported away, leaving scorch marks where she had been standing.
With a flash of her horn, the inside of her library lit with a dark purple, and her five friends stood before her, the kitchen door swinging free as her son came stumbling out, his scales covered in tears and his hands bruised from hammering the door.
Disoriented, her friends looked around before focusing on her glowing form, the rage rolling of her in waves of such heat that even the milk in the fridge curdled, her precious books slowly burning in her presence.
Applejack was the first to speak up, a bucket of apples still on her back. "T-twilight? Sugarcube? Is that you?" Fluttershy squeaked and ducked behind Rarity as the flaming mare's gaze swept over them to land on the farm mare.
"Yes, Applejack, it's me." He gaze held steady, although the flames within died as she was comforted by the presence of her friends. "Please girls, I need your help." Her eyes, despite the heat, began to water as she neared a complete breakdown. Swinging her head around, she focused on Rarity, looking her dead in the eye. "Our worst fears came true, Rarity."
Gasping, Rarity raised a hoof to her mouth, realization dawning upon her face as the others looked on in confusion. "You don't mean-" Twilight cut her off, her mane blazing as she spoke. "I do. Princess Celestia has declared Nyx a threat to Equestria."
Realization dawned upon the faces of everypony there, as I also realized the particular universe I had found myself visiting. Refocusing, I watched as Rainbow Dash shot into the air, her wings buzzing in agitation as she flew into a tizzy. "We have got to get her back!" Applejack agreed, shrugging off her apples and adjusting her hat. "She's right. Ain't no one messes with family." Fluttershy spoke softly as she too voiced her opinion, her eyes watering as she remembered how kind Nyx had always been. "The ruler of Equestria has no right to be taking ponies from their families."
Pinkie, strangely enough, stayed silent. In all my visits, she had never once noticed me. However, this time I feel as though she was listening with me, watching all of this with a strange sort of detachment.
"Because I am." She muttered, and I was shocked as she seemed to hold a steady gaze with me. "This isn't how the story was supposed to go." Her eyes watered as she pleaded with me. "I think Twilight is about to do something she may regret. Do me a favor and stop it, okay?" None of the others seemed to be paying attention to her mutterings, even as I nodded mutely in affermation. "Make it a Pinkie Promise?" As I did the motions, her body seemed to fade back into reality, focusing on whatever was to come.
I still haven't found out what happens when you break a Pinkie Promise in all my years of multiversal travel. I don't think I ever want to know.
While we had been talking, Twilight had torn the library apart, locating a multitude of spells, all easily within her repitore. As I watched, she cast spell after spell upon each of her friends, and I watched as each grew in shape, size, stature and appearence. With one final spell, Twilight herself transformed into a nightmare, her rage channeled into her new form as she readied a teleportation spell, and I watched as the whole group was sucked away towards their destination.
I watched as they appeared on the wrong side of the main gate to the royal palace, the guards completely bypassed at the main entry. The firce group of seven stalked forwards, the nightmare that Twilight Sparkle had become leading the group as they strolled through the entry doors. A group of guards, startled at the sight of seven major villains strolling into the palace, quickly raised their weapons and charged, before being easily knocked aside by an incredibly fast King Sombra, his shadowy form leaving behind hints of rainbow as he quickly disarmed and disabled each of his opponents swiftly.
Eardrums burst and windows shattered as the dark mare strode forwards, her starburst cutiemark vanishing from sight as she howled in an impressive imitation of the Royal Canterlot Voice. "CELESTIA!" Her mane alight with a twilight flame, the curtains catching fire as she strode past the shattered glass, her path set towards the stairs leading to the throne room. "GIVE HER BACK!"
An orange centaur readjusted his cowboy hat, and nudged a cowering Changeling queen, her pink spiderwebbed hair shaking as she glanced towards her friend. "Go an' search the rest of the palace. We might find the Princess in her throne room, but that don't mean little Nyx will be there too." The buttercup bug nodded, a smile of relief gracing her face as she quickly flew off, glad to be avoiding any sort of conflict.
A blue goat quickly ran a comb through his lucious mane, straightening it out before following after the fleeing queen. "I believe I shall do the same." She nodded as she passed the orange centaur, her eyes glowing with a radiance. "The poor dear may be glad to be avoiding conflict, but being dressed like that will not keep her from it." A large purple dragon looked between the two splitting groups, before ultimately landing on the enraged pony he once knew as his mother. His love could wait for another day, his family needed him far more.
Bursting into the main hall, the smaller group was met with a smaller, yet no less dangerous, princess. Her indigo mane wafting off her head as she stared down at the group standing before her. Luna arose from her throne, a starmetal scythe materializing in the air beside her as she strode towards them. "What issue, pray tell, does't thou have with our court?" Armor not seen for over a year appeared upon her body, her appearence becoming far more regal as she finally stood face to face with the intruders.
The nightmare stood face to face with the regent of the moon, a forced smile plastered across her face as she forced herself to remain calm. "Your sister," She spoke through gritted teeth, unable to keep the anger out of her voice. "took something very, very important to me." Her mane flared like the setting sun, her false wings ruffling as she spoke. "I would very much like it back."
"If our sister took something from a citizen of Equestria, we are certain she had a very good reason." Luna declared, readying her blade as she firmly met the gaze of the interloper in her court. "And if you are so foolish as to enter our court demanding it back, that perhaps you should not have had it at all."
The dark mare's eyes filled with rage, and all too late did Luna realize she had made a grave error in underestimating the power of the mare standing before her. She could feel the power pushing into her as she was blasted through her throne and against the wall, unable to even react as she was mercilessly drug through several stone pillars, before being tossed into the corner.
Turning to her followers, the dark mare bellowed, "Spread out! I want Celestia found! I don't care what it takes," her friends springing at her words as tears edged at her vision. "I will have her groveling at my hooves before the night is through!"
As her friends scattered into the palace, only Spike remained, the large dragon watching as the dark mare strode towards the collapsed body of Princess Luna, lifting her to her hooves. "Wh-" Luna let out as gasp of agony as she felt a broken rib pirce one of her lungs, her alicorn healing not nearly enough to restore her body. "Who are you?" She gasped, struggling to stay concious.
The dark mare glared at the lunar princess, the rage within her soul just barely held back. "A mare with nothing left to lose." Tears ran down her face, only a few, as she turned away, wiping them away with her magic as she strode back towards the ruined throne.
Glancing towards her son, she directed a question. "Have they replied yet?" It seemed I had missed something vital during my conversation with Pinkie, as I had no idea who she was referring to. Still, I watched as the massive dragon pulled forth a scroll bearing a pure diamond heart upon it's seal. Breaching the seal, Twilight read silently before setting it alight, a pure smile alight upon her face, and just for a second, the mare she used to be could be seen underneath. "Good."
Celestia's chariot arrived to a silent palace, the majority of its residents fast asleep. The small child she was carrying with her was asleep as well, though she was magically sedated. It had been necessary, for if she had not been quieted, the Princess may very well have turned around to apologize. Not that it would have done much good at this point. If Celestia knew what was coming, she didn't show it. Nexus met her at the door, his eyes falling upon the child. "Did she put up a fight?" He inquired, curious about the little filly he was seeing.
"Less than I thought she would, but more than I ever wanted." Celestia spoke, her voice bearing a worn down quality that betrayed her years. The princess had little left within her, and likely could not have taken much more.
"I'm surprised." Nexus mused, rubbing his chin as he thought. "I'd have thought Nightmare Moon would have put up more of a fight."
Celestia merely nodded, her eyes distant as she desperately tried to stay focused. "Yes. If she really is Nightmare Moon, she is hiding it very well." She glanced at Spell Nexus, her eyes watering as she whispered. "I pray to all that is holy that she is. For if she is not, than I do not believe anypony would or should forgive me for the crime I have commited today."
"Crime, your majesty?" Nexus inquired, grasping the small filly in his magic as he began to exit the room.
"I have just ripped a child from her mother, Nexus. If any other pony had done this, they would be facing prison time at the very least. If this were to get out, it is far more likely I would face the gallows." A small chuckle escaped her lips, despite her predicament. "Not that I would blame them." With a wave of her hoof, the Princess dismissed Spell Nexus, not even watching as he stepped out of the room towards his work.
Worn down from her trip, Princess Celestia made her way towards the throne room, intent on officially transferring control of the country to Luna for the night, as per usual. Still, a good night's rest was not what awaited her, for she knew that she would not be able to sleep comfortably until Nexus had finished his spell and determined the result. And if the result was undesirable, then she doubted she would sleep at all.
Teleporting into the entryway of the palace, Princess Cadance was met by a large blue goat, his blue fur expertly groomed for someone his size. "Twilight said you would be coming." The fashionista spoke, her voice very different from the form she held. "With the two Princesses likely against us, we could use your help when it comes to distracting the royal guard.
Recognizing the character that stood before her, Cadance nodded, before spreading her wings to assist in the search, ignoring the sounds of combat as she checked each room. Occasionally a guard would stop someone in their group, before joining in the search at the princess' command. Steadily, they checked every room in the palace, one by one.
Stepping into the throne room, Princess Celestia paid no mind to the dishevled state of the area surrounding her, focused on nothing but the scuffed red carpet beneath her hooves as she trudged her way towards the dark mare sitting on the throne.
"Wait," Celestia thought, her mind slowly moving to catch up to what she was seeing as she drew her gaze to the mare upon the throne. "Luna does not like sitting where everyone can see her. She prefers the..." Finally at the appropriate hight, the Princess' train of thought was completely derailed as she looked at the mare poised atop the throne, a menacing gaze pircing through her mind. "...shadows."
A deep, dry cackle resonated through the throne room as the dark mare stood, her mane alight with a flickering sunset as her ironshod hooves clacked against the steps leading down from the royal seat. "Look who has finally arrived..." The clatter of chains filled the air as the lunar princess stumbled out from behind the throne, the iron chains around her neck and hooves wrapped in an indigo aura as they were tugged forward, pulling her out into the pale moonlight.
"Sist-" Cut off, Luna clawed at her throat as the collar threatened to tighten around her airways. A glint appeared in the dark mare's eyes as she flicked her gaze between the two sisters.
"My my, Celestia." She chuckled, the lack of humor evident in her eyes as she glared into the eyes of the solar regent. "It seems that someone here has taken your poor sister captive." Lifting the chain in her magic, she grinned and tugged on the end, yanking Luna off her hooves and onto her knees, leaving her gasping for air as she struggled to rise. "Taking someone from their family..." The dark mare tossed the chain to the side, not even sparing it a glace as Luna began to breathe easier, the weight now taken off of the collar. Glaring deep into Celestia's eyes, the dark mare spoke, her voice dropping dangerously low. "Why, it must be a criminal offense."
The impact of the statement struck Celestia like a punch to the stomach, dropping to her knees like a wounded animal as she began to breathe heavily, the realization of what was going on hitting her all at once. "No..." She whispered, her mind racing as she desperately tried to scrounge together any form of an apology. "I... I can't... I didn't-"
Luna watched helplessly from her seat beside the throne as the dark mare's hoof flashed forwards, striking Celestia on the cheek and sending her flying. The dark mare scowled as Celestia struck the wall, and flicked the blood off her hoof before approaching the heap that was once the ruler of the land.
"But you did." With those three words, all the effort Celestia had been making to stand up disappeared, as she collapsed onto the tiled floor, blood slowly dripping from her mouth. "I guess that makes you a criminal to-o." The dark mare spoke in a sing-song voice as Celestia slowly raised her head, looking into the eyes of her assailent.
Her dark eyes flashed wildly, all innocence and joy gone as the glared at the heap of a mare before them. Gone was the mare who would have happily sat in a little old library, never once needing anyone other than herself. In her place stood a wrathful beast, a towering goliath of pure magical power. The goddess of the sun knew at once that no words she could offer would halt the oncoming storm. No apology would be capable of holding off her student's power.
"Where is she?" The question snapped at her quickly drew Celestia back to the real world, her mind having wandered off as she tried to think of a way out of the situation.
"Wha-I..." Celestia tried to speak, her mouth running dry as she desperately tried to think of any logical excuse. Luna watched in silence, uncertain which course of action to take. However, she trusted her sister in everything. Celestia would not fail her.
"Where is my daughter, Celestia?!" The dark mare howled, a maelstrom of magic swarming above her head as her mane twisted and spun, lightening and flame leaping around within as the purple storm raged. "Where are you hiding her?!"
Luna looked on in shock at the unexpected turn. In all her years, she had never seen a rightous fury like this. "Celestia," She thought, her mind struggling to keep up with the new developments. "what have you done?"
I had seen enough. Twilight Sparkle was clearly unable to control herself or her emotions. For a perfectly good reason, I'm sure, but she was nevertheless a threat to the multiverse. We know just how powerful she can be, as we have several distinct multiverses all certered around her. Twilight Sparkle is one of the few beings I know who could traverse the multiverse, and at this point in time, she was most likely to rend it to pieces searching for her child. If she had come across another variant, she may very well have taken her without a thought, causing another chain as the next Twilight Sparkle goes on a rampage to find their daughter.
Now, this was the first time I've ever had to excercise this power. So few universes have ever threatened the multiverse itself. However, this was one of them. To prevent this utter catastrophe, it simply had to be erased.
You heard me right. All inhabitants of that universe are gone. However, as you all know, when one thing happens, the opposite happens in another universe. This is the flaw that I am sure everyone saw with my plan. To keep it simple, I halted the creation of multiverses within that sector. Anything that would have spawned off of it from the moment of my entry was thrown onto the list and systematically erased. The only record that they ever existed in the first place is this journal, and I plan to keep it sealed away forever.
I am not sorry for what I did, but I am sorry I had to do it.
I hope this is the only time I will ever have to write in this journal. For if I must write in here again, it will likely be because I have just slaughtered another universe. I do not relish that idea.
Sincerely,
- Watcher
