Laying here, alone, in the dark, and with tears in her eyes was hard. Harder than all she’s been through. Harder than the time her boyfriend dumped her. Harder than when the new girl tried to steal her best friend from her. Harder than when her mother died when she was 8. Harder than anything she has ever been through. It’s her fault though. She’s the one that told her to come over while there was a bad storm. But she didn’t know a tree would fall on her. But she still shouldn’t have yelled at her to come over.
Now she’s sitting here on her old pink bed, taking in her smell. The smell of strawberries and maple syrup. Her hair was a mess, hasn’t been combed in a long time, since that night, that still haunted her.
“Sapphire? Come on out honey. It’ll be okay. You haven’t come out in since the funeral” Golden Hunter, her dearly beloved boyfriend. He walked up to the light blue coated mare and laid down with her. Brushing her violet mane with teal on the top of her head so he could see her dark teal eyes. She ignored him.
He sighed “you need to move on, its been 5 months”
She couldn’t though.
It was too hard to accept.
She can’t move on from her.
She never will.
Oh how she missed Pixie Dust.
“Sapphi! Come play with me!” A light yellow little filly with pink and blue mane yelled to her best friend.
“Okay dusty!” yelled a young sapphire. They played for hours upon hours in the park before going to get ice cream.
Sapphire couldn’t go anywhere without seeing her or thinking of her. Everything makes sapphire think of her. Flowers, foods, certain words being said. Pixie was her whole life. Sure she had Golden. But no one would ever understand her like Pixie did.
“Do you like Amber more than me?” sapphire said bluntly. Amber was a new girl at their school and had been spending a lot of time with Pixie. More time with Amber than Sapphire.
“What?! No! Why would you ever think that!?!” Pixie exclaimed. Sure Sapphire got jelease but Pixie would never think it would go this far! Sapphire looked away not looking at Pixie.
“I love you Sapphi! Don’t forget that. Ever! She may shimmer but you shine brighter than all the stars in the night sky. You’ll always be my best friend no matter what! Don’t forget that!” Pixie said while hugging Sapphire. It was then whe Sapphire realized she might not have her boyfriend but she will always have her dusty.
While Pixie helped her a lot, Sapphire also had to help Pixie with nightmares, doubts, and other random stuff like that. Pixie is really sensitive. So anything mean said to her can turn into tears, that's why she has Sapphire to comfort her and protect her.
“Sapphi! T-they were s-so mean to me! They said I was s-stupid and dumb!” a crying pixie said running up to Sapphire and wrapping her in a tight hug. Anger took over Sapphire's body, how could anyone say such mean things to such an innocent soul?
“Don’t worry Dusty, I’ll deal with them” Sapphire said in a very angry. Needless to say the ponies who hurt Pixie ended up in the hospital and Sapphire needed to pay for the bills, which wasn’t a problem her family was really rich and didn’t care what she spent her money on.
“I need her! I want her back! This shouldn’t have happened!” Sapphire yelled to everyone who was there currently. They were at an intervention for her, telling her to move on. But she couldn’t, they don’t understand her pain. She left without another word. Walking down to the park where they first met and spent so many hours there was different than before. Usually Pixie would be yapping about something. Then there was another sound of steps walking towards her. She didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.
“What do you want nimble wing?” Sapphire said sharply. Nimble wing was Pixie's boyfriend. They;ve been a couple for 10 months but have loved and known each other for 5 years.
Pixie barged into Sapphire’s dark and black room with a huge smile on her face and squealed.
“Guess what?!? Nimble asked me out!” Pixie yelled
“NO way!” sapphire said getting up and jumping up and down with pixie in excitement. Usually she wouldn’t do this in front of others but when it’s just with Pixie she could.
“You’re not the only who misses her Sapphire and your not the only who’s hurting about this” that's all he said before walking away.
Sapphire knows that. But she can’t help feeling the way she does. Sapphire and golden have had such a hard relationship and has had many bumps, including breaking up a few times during the roller coaster of love. Pixie has always been there through all of it and had comforted her.
They were sitting in Sapphires bedroom and Sapphire right now was a mess. Tears in her eyes, mane tangled, and makeup smeared.
“It’ll be okay Sapphi. If he wants you to change so he doesn’t get embarrassed then he can’t see that you're amazing with or without him.” Pixie said while rubbing her hoof up and down Sapphire's back.
“I know but he was my first and it’s hard” Sapphire said while he face was in a pillow.
“He may be your first but most definitely not your last. It’ll take time to move on from this but you can do it. I know you can and no matter what I’ll be there with you” After a few more hours like that they fell asleep. Days past and golden showed up at Sapphire’s house apologizing about everything.
“I shouldn’t have changed you. You're independent and strong, that’s why I fell in love with you.” She didn’t believe him at first but after some convincing she decided to give him another chance. Things were great for the two of them until Amber showed up and wanted to steal Golden away from Sapphire. Pixie wasn’t known to be hurtful or violent, unpredictable, yes. So when she heard that Amber was trying to steal Golden from her best friend, she had a talk with Amber and a little convincing with a few punches. Sapphire could always count on Pixie to defend her no matter what.
Sapphire was sitting in her bathroom for days sobbing and destroying everything in sight. She’s been having mental breakdowns a lot recently mostly about her. A few days after the funeral Sapphire went into Pixie's room and got many things in there. Pixie’s blanket, perfume, pictures, song writing sheets, pillow and most importantly her bow collection. Ever since she was young Pixie always wore a bow either new or used she always wore one. The bow could be anywhere on her, her hair,on top of her head, around her hoof, around her neck, but mostly there was a bow at the end of her braids and on her tail.
One time for hearts and hooves day Pixie was late for school. 7 minutes and 56 seconds late to be exact. Pixie came in during card passing time. Instead of cards, Pixies made everyone bows, the boys complained saying it was too “girly” they got in trouble for that. Everyone else loved them. Each bow was made specially for them in a unique way. Sapphire didn’t get her bow until after school. She didn’t know why but she was upset she had to wait that long. In the end it was all worth the complaining and whining about wanting a bow.
“You have to wait, Sapphi!” was all Pixie said before running off to give her teacher a bow as well. When she finally gave Sapphire her bow she knew why she had to wait so long.
“Sorry I had you waiting sapphi! But yours look longer to make. You're my best friend in the whole wide world and nothing can change that! I had trouble coming up with something for you because there's sooo many things I love about you. When we grow up and you become a famous bridleway actress I’ll come to see everyone of your shows! I love you forever Sapphi! Even when we’re all old and are living in a retirement home together!” Pixie said, pushing a box toward Sapphire. Sapphire opened it and couldn’t help but gasp.
It was black with all different colors on it. On the bow were real sapphires that made the bow shimmer in the sunlight. In the middle was a rare heart shaped fire ruby. Fire rubies were Sapphire’s favorite gem because of the way the look. The way they also have so many shades to it. Sapphire took the bow and put it in her mane. She hugged Pixie so tight, never wanting to let go of her. Sapphire never took the bow out after that, it’s been over a decade since then. It was worn out but she still never took it out.
Her boyfriend was worried about her. Everyone was. Her parents were worried about her! She was getting tired of all the “are you ok” or “you should move on” no,no she can’t move on from this. She won’t ever move on from this, she doesn’t want to move on. She doesn't want to forget the best pony she ever met in her life.
They were sitting in the bath room and Pixie was in tears while Sapphire was holding her and whispering comforting words to her saying it’ll be okay.
1 minute passed
“What if its positive?” Pixies whispered “my parents are going to be so mad at me. What if he leaves me? I don’t want that!” Pixie muffled in the Sapphires chest crying more.
“If it’s positive then I’ll stay with you. If your parents get mad and disown you, you’re living with me. If he leaves you then he’ll have to face me.” Sapphire said, running her hoof through Pixies silky mane.
2 minutes
Sapphire knew this day would come, although she thought it’ll be herself to be crying over whether she might be pregnant or not. Not the other way around.
3 minutes
*ding!* the timer went off which means it’s done. Still sitting down and doing nothing except the sound of sniffing.
“Do you want me to look?” Sapphire asked not knowing if pixie was going to look because she was too scared.
“N-no I want to look. I have to look” so that’s what she did. Pixie got up and looked at the test. After a few seconds of saying nothing sapphire also got up and went to look at the test. One single blue line was there. Breathing out in relief Sapphire looked over at Pixie who had a small smile on her face. They still sat there saying nothing.
Wrapped up in Pixie’s old blanket and looking at year books. One particular year book stood out above anything else. The notebook where the graduated high school. Where Pixie wrote the longest note in the year book ever.
Dear Sapphi,
We did it! We graduated! Now we can go make it big. Do our biggest dreams! Star on bridleway together. Be the biggest pop stars any pony has ever known! We can take on this new adventure together now and forever! We can get married together and our kids can be best friends like us! We’ll take on anything the world throws at us. We can do anything after all that happened in high school. And when we grow old we can go to a retirement home together! I love you! I hope you don’t forget me even when you and Golden have babies together! I know I won’t forget you when me and Nimble have children. Cause your gonna be their godmother! Now that it’s summer we don’t have to worry about school anymore just, acting and singing! We can have hundreds of sleepovers now and forever.
Don’t forget me! I love you! Love Dusty.
Tears went down Sapphire's cheeks. Pixie had planned their whole future together. From marriage to stardom to children to retirement homes. Now that she’s gone they can’t do that anymore. Sapphire reread the last line. She won’t forget her. Not now or ever. Her stomach growled, Sapphire hasn’t been eating a lot and she’s become very skinny because of it. But she was too weak to get up and make something. She closed her eyes and breathed in and out.
When she woke up she saw a gate, a pure golden gate. She walked through it and saw her. They pony she would have died to see again. She did. Pixie looked at Sapphire and smiled.
“We’re home now Sapphi” that’s all what took for sapphire to smile again.
At the cemetery there were two headstones. A a heart shaped one that read:
Pixie rain Dust
Beloved girlfriend,sister,daughter,singer
A True angle.
Taken before her time.
Next to that was a diamond shaped headstone and the edges were sharp it read:
Sapphire August Sea
Amazing girlfriend,daughter,actress
She’ll be missed
Forever
Golden, Nimble, Amber and Winter Gust, another one of their friends. Went to their graves once every week to remember them. Amber would be crying, losing her best friends even though she and Sapphire never got along. Nimble dug up some dirt and put a small rose gold with a spinel gem on it. It was a promise ring that he was going to give her, to promise him she’ll always love him. He knew she would always love him, so he gave it to her anyways.
Golden also dug up some dirt and put a silver engagement ring with a dark blue sapphire on it with small diamonds on each side of it. Their graves were next to each other because they knew both Sapphire and Pixie would have wanted it that way. Years later they all still come here every week to visit the two sisters.
