Was she tooting her own horn? Maybe. But you had to admit that Sunset was right, winning against magical sirens who literally live off of the hatred and negativity they start between bystanders really changed up the game.
Oh my god; the Sirens would thrive on stan twitter, the thought strike her as she debated whether to tweet the new revelation.
“And that’s why ‘Senorita’ is the peak of consumerism in form of a song,” Pinkie confidently plumped back down on her stool, Sunset just realizing she was still stuck on that.
“We just wanted to know if you practiced last night.”
“You bet I did.”
“Okay,” Dash said, checking the time on her watch, “considering we only have ten minutes left – thanks again Pinkie – why don’t we just discuss whatever comes to mind?”
“I did rewrite the lyrics to the new song we were working on,” Fluttershy passed on her notebook to Dash, “if you have time, you can look over it.”
Shoving it in her sports bag, Dash motioned for someone else to bring up anything else, “Sunset, anything from the fans?”
“Nothing to report here,” she said. Which was true, because the only thing Sonic Booms are really going crazy for is the fact that Rarity finally uploaded on her YouTube account.
“My newest video was a smash, if I do say so myself.”
“Okay, well if that’s all –”
“Actually, I do have something I need to get off my chest,” Applejack said, solemnly standing up, “I have something I need to discuss with y’all.”
“And you had to wait until we had three minutes left? Heck, you could’ve interrupted Pinkie and we wouldn’t mind.”
“I would mind –”
“Can we just hear her out, please?”
“Well, as y’all know I went to camp with Coloratura which sparked a short-lived friendship, and recently we have rekindled it. And well, she offered me a spot on her latest single.”
“Like a collab?”
“Yes?”
“Cool,” Dash said, “go for it.”
“That’s it? No jealous remarks? No secret feelings of betrayal.”
“Relax, it’s a collab not a record deal. Besides I’m pretty sure we already had that fallout.”
“I’m proud of you Applejack,” Twilight said, the rest of the room cheering for her new found job.
“Well, that wraps up another practice session,” Dash said, as the group started to pack up. Like the practices before, this one ended on a similar note. Usually the practices would start with something obnoxiously said by Rainbow Dash, followed by practicing either a new or old song, and ending with discussion on other topics – not necessarily having to pertain to the band itself.
That’s why when Sunset reads that the fans wished to see a behind the scenes of their practices, she never brings them up. Because there was either nothing worth watching or what would be seen would get them in hot water. Either way, not good.
She also found that she’s been using her account less now. It wasn’t because she was committed to her late resolution, and neither was it because she was busy, especially now that she was off work as the Sushi Hut was under construction from flooding. Did the fact that Trixie had actually came through with her promise to keep a truce have an influence? Not particularly. Was this contradicting since she tweeted something during practice and was currently doing so now? More likely than you think.

Was it wrong for her to disclosed secret information? Technically not really, because as far as she stated it was just a mere foreshadowing. Besides, this causes more hype, more suspense, better promotion. It’s a PR tactic. Just like this account.
Flinging her bag on her couch, she spun around in her chair, wheeling in place to face her computer, starting her research paper for AP Spanish. Using at least 5 peer reviewed articles or grey resources, with three of them in Spanish, she had to write a paper on Philip II of Spain and the Spanish Armada. Thank Celestia she could write it in English, because she wasn’t sure if she could write a 2500 word essay in Spanish.
Typing the keywords in the search bar, she started to read through different sources to get a better idea of how she’d structure this paper, as well as proper resources she could cite. That was of course until the buzzing of her phone finally broke her concentration, reaching for it at the side.

Throwing the device where her bag lied to stop herself from being distracted, it wasn’t until she was writing on Battle of Gravelines in July 1588 did she take a break. Stretching in her seat, she reached for the mini fridge-freezer beside her desk, plopping the tofu meat patty in her microwave for a quick snack.
She hoped whoever was knocking on her door wasn’t here to stay because she only had one of those patties left and did not want to share it if she was being honest.
Dash in front of her door could either mean a good thing or a bad thing. She wanted to say it always meant a bad thing, but deep down she knew that wasn’t right. Making herself welcome, Dash placed a coffee machine on the living room table, dusting her hands once empty. Beaming at her friend like she done her a favour she gave out a small ‘there you go.’
“Is that my coffee machine? I thought you broke it?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” the filler basket fell off as a testimony against her words, “only a little but I blame Fluttershy.”
“She hates coffee.”
Not skipping a beat, Dash made her way to Sunset’s computer, “So whatcha doing?”
“A research paper on Philip II of Spain and the Spanish Armada for AP Spanish.”
“Ew, productivity,” Dash said, minimizing her word document, “anyways, I was going to share this video with you through messages but now that I’m here might as well show it to you now.”
Typing something on the search bar on YouTube, she made a disproving remark about being subscribed to Rarity, before finding the video. The video in question was a compilation of clips and photos perfectly matching the beat Awesome as I Wanna Be, garner around 500K views.
“It’s called a ‘fan edit’”
“I am aware.”
“I thought it was pretty cool, you know fans putting effort in something like this, really makes me feel great.”
“I’m glad,” Sunset replied before warning her friend, “it’s just that, you should be careful. Sometimes there are edits you just should not see.” Ignoring her shuddering friend, Dash placed her arm on Sunset’s shoulder.
“Speaking of fans, Rarity told me about your little conversation and I wanted in.”
Confused, Dash continued, “I want you to tell me what the fans think of me,” pointing her thumb to herself, puffing out her chest.
Carefully pushing Dash’s arm off, Sunset shook her head, “I don’t think so.”
Pouting, because Rainbow Dash knew Sunset was a sucker for a good pout, Dash tried to convince her unsuccessfully. Dragging her to her door, Sunset thanked Dash for returning her machine and wished her well, before kicking her out. Placing the broken machine on the microwave, it was then that she remembered her now soggy dinner.

“Hey Sunset,” Apple Bloom ran up to her, “AJ said she’ll be done in ten more minutes, a few hens somehow broke out of their cages and now she has to put them back.”
“That’s cool,” Sunset said.
“Another thing,” Apple Bloom opened her mouth, debated whether to say it, and finally giving in to her curiosity, “is it true that ‘stan twitter’ is a bad word?”
“What?” Confused for a moment, it whiplashed the back of her head. Her past mistakes were coming back to haunt her and apparently whatever conversation Applejack had with Apple Bloom was her problem.
“Because AJ said a friend of hers told her, and I told her that it was just a side of twitter dedicated to celebrities you follow. Then she asked me if I had one and I said no because the only celebrity I really ‘stan’ is her.”
“Uh, well maybe it’s because of the word ‘stan’, it’s actually a combination of ‘stalker’ and ‘fan’ so in actuality it originated from a negative connotation,” Sunset explained.
“Uh-huh,” Bloom nodded, twisting her foot into the ground, “thanks Sunset. Also, since you know so much, does that mean you have a stan twitter?”
Sunset shook her head – maybe too aggressively – giving out a fake laugh, “of course not, the only celebrity I could consider that I ‘stan’ would be our band, and I can’t possibly have an account for that.”
Ignoring her exaggerated behavior, Bloom excused herself, bored of the conversation, in time for Applejack to catch up with them. Running past her older sister, Bloom let out a ‘told ya so’, as AJ asking what she was going on about.
“Oh, nothing,” Sunset plucked a feather out of her friend’s hair.

One thing that Sunset really liked about Applejack was the fact that once the topic was dropped, she wouldn’t try to bring it back. So in between the time of them beating the multiplayer high score for Tickle Fruit 2 and to the time it took to convince Applejack that, yes, the newest promotion plan for the Acres does count as a pyramid scheme, what ever Sunset and Apple Bloom spoke about was never brought up.
Shifting the conversation to lighter tone, Sunset asked how AJ felt about her new project felt. Bringing up the released ten second clip, she complimented how despite hearing her voice for less than three seconds, it sounded terrific.
“Pretty exciting if I do say so myself,” Applejack said, “I mean Rara was so fun to record with, I tell y’all that there’s just something mighty special about her voice that makes you wanta listen to it all day.”
“I’m glad you’re so passionate about this, its about time people see you shine instead of sleeping on your talent.”
“Sleeping?”
“Sorry, that’s internet slang for being overlooked or ignored. People don’t hype you up as much as they should online, and by the time the new single releases they’d be wishing they did.”
Applejack scrunched her face, “So let me get this straight, I’m currently being ‘slept on’” air quoting her new vocabulary.
“As Rarity would put it, a crime in itself.”
“Am I the only one ‘slept on’?”
Thinking for a moment, Sunset shook her head, “thinking about it, Pinkie and Twilight are midtier popular.”
“And why is that? I’m pretty hardworking in my own area. Sure, I don’t sing as much, or put myself out in the front as often as others, but I’m a vital part of the band. As the bass player I’m the gas to the tank, the heart to the vessel.”
“Which is why it frustrates me to see you not being appreciated.” She was glad she had an irl to discuss these things about. It was one thing about discussing about content the fans wished to see or to report complaints, but to sit down and discuss issues and happenings in the fandom face-to-face rather than through a screen was refreshing. The best part; Applejack would never take these things personally.
Except now apparently, because Applejack huffed as she played with rim of her hat, something she did when she took things personally.
“Uh-oh, I sense something wrong,” she said, tempting her friend to open up.
“It’s just,” Applejack sighed, “it’s just hard when you know that you’re not appreciated for what you do, y’all know? Like my sweat and tears were shrugged off as nothing, not a good feeling I’m telling you.”
Sliding closer to her friend, she comforted her with a little side hug, “if it makes you feel any better the people who are smart enough to appreciate you love you with their whole heart, including me.”
“Thanks Sunset,” squeezing her back, Applejack smiled slightly, “you’re always there for me, especially when I need you.”
“I’m not going to sign up for your pyramid scheme.”

Reading the tweet Sunset had to do a quick Google check to confirm that it was indeed called ‘The Spectacle’, as she could’ve sworn it had ‘Razzle Dazzle’ in the title, or at least in brackets. She too felt conned.
Almost as conned as when she thought that Spotify was doing a promotional event with the Rainbooms without her knowledge. With the picture proof of fans showing that with if ‘Rainbow Rocks’ were streamed three times in a row, one would get Spotify premium free for two weeks. Of course, after further research she found it was just another scam done to help get the song to 1 million streams. Unethical? Yes. Did it work? Absolutely.

Laughing, Sunset switched accounts before tweeting herself have to edit the newest video of Shimmer Code and my program keeps crashing, now I know why @TrulyRarity always complains about editing.
Sending the tweet, she didn’t expect the sudden seizure her phone had right after. Considering she had to finish the last paragraph on the aftermath of the lost of Armada and edit the whole thing before she went to bed, she turned off the device. An hour and half with her eyes drooping, she finally checked the curious fans under her tweet.
Except most of the notifications were from @dancemagic rather her personal account. Confused – and slightly anxious – her finger hovered over the ‘switch account’ button. Gulping, she faced her fears only to have them staring right back at her. Right under a tweet that should have been through her personal account, thousand of questions and accusations were battling it out in the comment section.

There was only one thing to do in this situation. Well actually there were two things, one could be that she could delete her account completely and never speak about this again. Start over a new, maybe create a stan account for Post Crush if she really missed the scene. Or she could do what every influencer had to do at one point in their life; lie as a form of an apology.

Hi this is Sunny from @dancemagic and it has come to my attention that my tweet has caused confusion to everyone. First of all, I want to apologize for any discomfort I have caused anyone, and sincerely wanted to present my side of the story. Recently I have been given the chance of a life to help out someone I look up to with all my heart. Someone I had a digital arts class with was an acquaintance of Sunset Shimmer, and was aware of her looking to help her with editing her latest video as she was having troubles with keeping up with everything that was going on with her life (as a payed job of course). Because they knew I was both a fan of Rainbooms and had experience with editing videos he suggested me, and after showing a few of my videos, she asked if I wanted to work on this project. I, of course, agreed, honoured that I was working with someone like her. Going back to my original tweet, it was meant for my private/personal account, where only those who know me personally follows me. The tweet wasn’t made with any malice intent, and I originally wanted to keep this a secret not to cause any misunderstanding – something I failed doing so.
I hope this clears up any confusions anyone had, and I honestly apologize for any wrong I may have done.

It wasn’t a complete lie, just maneuvered around the information that would’ve expose her. Refreshing the page to read the incoming replies, for the most part things were under control. They were people questioning the authenticity of the tweet, reasonable as she did just happen to be editing a video from her absolute fave, and in order to further establish the story as truth she put the next step of her plan in action.

The thing with online communities is that most of their focus can only be on one thing at a time, which stays true for stan culture, meaning she had to wait for someone to make a mistake for the attention to be off of her. Knowing this Sunset went to bed peacefully with no doubt her mistake will be covered up with whatever Dash does tomorrow.
Holding a blue plastic cup in her hand, Sunset laughed at the joke Twilight made as Dash drew a blank.
“Because the first guy said H2O – you know water – and when the other guy said H2O too, it sounded like H2O2 – which is hydrogen peroxide, and drinking it will kill you. It was the simplest one yet.”
“But why go to the bar and not get alcohol? Why did they have to go to a bar and ruin it with science, and why did they just have peroxide hanging around?”
“Peroxide is often used to help clear open wounds so it would be quite useful to have around.”
“Still I don’t get why they have to mix science with –”
“Dash,” Sunset placed her hand on her shoulder, “it was a joke.”
“A joke is funny, that was just a headache.”
Refilling their cups Pinkie made an ominous comment about the punch she was pouring, and Sunset wasn’t too sure if she was trying to say she added alcohol or peroxide. She honestly didn’t care which one it was, getting drunk or getting killed, it was the same difference to her.
Today’s practice was replaced with an impromptu party congratulating Applejack on her newest single, which topped various charts, including being top 10 in Billboard Worldwide. Currently playing through the speakers, the song was an earworm, both AJ’s and Coloratura’svoices blending perfectly together, as one would say its accomplishments were a ‘deserve’.
Sunset would like to think of this party as a way to congratulate herself for what she’s been through as well, including the whole slip up, which despite questionings from her friends and mocking DMs from Trixie, blew over pretty quick. It did help that Dash so happened to tweet something about how chicken nuggets were only okay and that people hype them up too much. Small things like these can really make a difference.
Clearing her throat, she captured everyone’s attention as easily as she would back in the day, pulling out her phone.
“It has come to Applejack’s attention that despite the hard work she has put in this band there are people turning a blind eye to her. I have gathered various comments and tweets proving what we always knew from the beginning, that our AJ is nothing less than amazing.”
Showing off her Twitter timeline (this time certain it was her personal account) she continued, “as you can see #WeCan’tStopLovingAJ is trending to show support for Applejack, with comments like ‘Applejack proving once again that she really is THAT b –,” eyeing the swear jar, and knowing fully wear she had no spare change left, she moved to the next tweet.
“@twitwisparkle tweeted ‘Applejack ate that whole song up, from the vocals to concept, when will you faves compete?’ Another one said ‘written by AJ, produced by AJ, lyrics by AJ, performed by AJ, Applejack multi-talented queen wbk’. Uh, this one says ‘this is Applejack’s world and we’re just living in it’. @buckingAJ – which may I add I’ve seen hyping you up from day one – tweeted ‘AJ flawlessly going from her chest voice to mixed voice to head voice and back to chest in less than 1 minute. She’s not human she can’t be.’”
With adoring eyes all looking at Applejack, the only thing her friend could think of doing is placing her hat on her chest, before thanking everyone of them, “Honestly, I can’t think of any words to describe how I feel right now. Even though there were a few words I didn’t understand the sentiment was there, which is all I need.”
“Oh well when you ‘ate the whole song up’ technically means –”
“That’s okay, I don’t need to know all that mumbo jumbo to know that they care.”
And she did know, because later that day she tweeted how she appreciated how people thought she ‘ate things up’ and how though she appreciated the sentiment the world should revolve around everyone and not ‘just be her world’.
It was cute, she had to admit.

Sitting in one of the most comfortable sofas she knew, she watched as Rarity livestreamed her makeup removal and nighttime routine for hitting two million subscribers on YouTube. Sunset being there as Rarity was there for her two million subscriber livestream.
“Talk about yourself more,” Rarity squinted as she read a comment out loud, “Love are you sure, because once I start, I won’t stop.” Encouraged by the hoard of comments coming in she started to tell how she met her newest fascination during a switch up of drink orders, saying it was something like out of a cliché chick flick.

Sunset never wanted to delete her account as much as she did after reading that. Taking a break to overcome her traumatization, she reeled back into the ending of Rarity’s autobiography.
“And that’s why Bumble Scorch and I decided it was best for us to take a break,” Rarity explained, “for my mental health, because there’s nothing more important to me than my mental health.”
“Good for you,” Sunset said.
“You tell me darling; would you continue something that was detrimental for your mental health?”
Looking back at her phone her screen showed a simple tweet attached with four pictures, along with the lines of PinkieShy hugging each other, that’s it, that’s the tweet.
Smiling to herself, Sunset replied, “absolutely not,” retweeted the tweet and posting something about how accurate @rainbowrocks got rarity biases as she related to it on a spiritual level.
